Mid-Life Lawyer said...: Sometimes I listen to Pandora when I run. I like to listen to an artist's "station" as the stations feature their music but also the songs of similar artists. Almost all the stations I've listened to in the last week get around to Pink Moon by Nick Drake at some point. If I want to listen to faster music, I listen to Pixies, Violent Femmes, The Killers, and The Strokes. They all feature the others music with a little different flavors as well.

The feds are not going to enforce the vax mandate.
They really don't care if people get sick or not, unless they die fast and save money for SS and Medicare.
What they care about is pushing people around, making people do their bidding.
The feds have all the big corporations to be the enforcers. If they wanted to maximize the number of people who take the vaccines, they would not exempt small employers (<100 employees). They exempted the small places because they are run by more independent-thinking entrepreneurs who will ignore the mandate. The big companies like to push their employees around- a docile workforce is a good workforce.
You never give an order that will not be obeyed.
The feds will be happy to see people do their bidding, however indirectly. That's their goal.; 9/11/21, 1:47 PM

I was talking with some smart and thoughtful APS high school students yesterday and the topic of 9/11 arose. I didn't expect them to know the details, but was surprised that they mostly lacked even a basic knowledge of what took place ("a plane hit a building, right?")

Much worse: many of those kids who had heard about it were believers in, or at least tempted by, the utterly false canard that this was an inside job by the U.S. government. I heard some of the crap promoted by "9/11 truthers": the planes weren't strong enough to destroy the Towers, "some people" wanted the U.S. to get into a war, no plane hit the White House because Bush was there (prompting me to explain that Bush was in Florida reading "My Pet Goat" to kindergarteners), and similar nonsense. I encouraged them to talk to anyone over 30 about their memories of that day and to employ their skills at sifting real from fake news.

I was flabbergasted and remain pretty distressed. Truly didn't expect this from APS students almost old enough to vote, and it frightens me for what other wacko - and dangerous - things they might believe based on YouTube and social media. Wow, that is great, there is a huge unreported undercurrent in that sentence. F 500 companies know that they get more performance from in office employees, but that ship has sailed. Working at home is now the expectation, workers want it bad.

Federal workers have always been overpaid and coddled because it is an obvious way for the Democrats to buy votes. (See Va goes Democrat.) But, what would happen to DC if all the Federal workers stayed home and stopped buying lunch and drinks in DC and stayed home in Fairfax? DC will look like Austin and Roosevelt (Chicago) or Bushwick (Brooklyn.) I know that the lunches are charged to the taxpayer in reality but that does not matter in the analysis, it's the economic impact.

There needs to be a lot of yuppies around to buy the abandoned office towers converted to condos. Otherwise, blue cities are screwed.

The hurricane hit New Orleans on Sunday, August 29. Joe Biden showed up five days later to make a rousing speech filled with promises he apparently forgot about on his way back to Washington in Air Force One, if not on the way back to the plane itself. I had been assuming that no news from New Orleans meant that Biden’s administration was screwing up, as the media would be thrilled to publish anything that could be spun as positive in the face of Afghanistan. Yesterday I found an article that confirmed my suspicions. “Where’s the President? Where’s FEMA?”
