"... according to a preliminary count of the final vote tally Tuesday. Adams emerged narrowly ahead of Kathryn Garcia, 50.5 percent to 49.5 percent.... Adams declared the primary race over in an evening statement. 'While there are still some very small amounts of votes to be counted, the results are clear: an historic, diverse, five-borough coalition led by working-class New Yorkers has led us to victory in the Democratic primary for Mayor of New York City,' he said."
I'm so glad that happened. It would have been very hard for people to accept a different outcome. Who could trust what happened inside a computer that shuffled and recounted votes for weeks if it didn't match in the original, simple version of the count?

"He 'won' by 1 percent. You trust that number after all the disastrous build-up? If I was in Garcia's camp I wouldn't."
I say:
I just think it would be worse if Adams hadn't been given the victory. I don't trust what went on inside the computer and don't think they should have this ranked voting system.

"Good to see irony isn't dead."

"This whole kerfuffle is another reason to avoid ranked choice voting. It is confusing, not straightforward and enables candidates whom voters have rejected, eg Chesa Boudin in SF, to come through, unscrutinised, because voters never expected them to have a chance of winning.
"If you don't like first past the post (FPTP), then hold a run off between the top 2 a week later (like the French do). It actually makes v little difference , which is why I like FPTP.
"It's always the radical left that favours ranked choice or proportional representation, and the latter puts power in the hands of the party bureaucracy where they use lists."
Amusing to see posters up for Stop The Steal. Will she be thrown off Facebook, Twitter and generally unpersonned now?
