"Biden, a lifelong Catholic, supported Hyde for decades — as did many other Democrats, often as a compromise position with Republicans.... During the lead-up to the 2020 Democratic presidential primary, Biden reversed his longtime position on Hyde, joining other Democratic hopefuls in saying he would work to overturn it.... Biden said his position had changed in response to changing circumstances, including increasing efforts by Republican lawmakers to restrict abortion. 'It was not under attack,' Biden said. "As it is now.'"

" Is the dispute over the Hyde Amendment another example of Democrats ignoring an issue because He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named and his redneck party are bringing it up? It's clear from the article that repealing the Hyde Amendment will ignore the Catholic conscience but it is also clear that it will increase abortions among minority women and that this is the intention. Isn't this an offense against the liberal conscience? Already women in the black community receive a disproportionate number of abortions (34% of abortions, 12% of the population); already this has caused the birthrate in the black community to fall below replacement level. The group is dying out due to Planned Parenthood and its abortion clinics. But the black community is not dying out fast enough to suit Joe Biden and the Democrats. More money must be pumped into more abortions even as the black community is being wiped out. It's hard to understand why this is not seen as something for Democrats to be concerned about. At a minimum, these are their voters. And, after all, China with the largest population in the world is concerned that its birth rate has fallen below replacement level. The issue is real to some who are leaders of their people and, in the era of Black Lives Matter, the issue should matter here. But so far, Republicans own the issue while the Democrats with the media systematically look away."
