Summer — understood as the season of light — just peaked.
We'd been parked at 5:18 for the sunrise here for quite a few days, but it moved on to 5:18 yesterday (the day of the solstice)(sunset will remain at its latest time, 8:40, until July 3rd, by which time sunrise will have moved all the way to 5:23).
So I'm right in the middle of the challenge. I don't like to need to set an alarm, but I do set it in this part of the year — for 4:40 — with the hope of waking up before it goes off, and I do, most mornings.
I don't have any trouble feeling fully awake as soon as I get up, and there's not trouble at all running at that time. If I don't get enough sleep — and it's hard to go to sleep at 9 when sunset is so late — then I'll feel groggy in the middle of the day. In the summer, that's a great time for a siesta. No reason to be outside in the midday sun. Better to be crepuscular, so that's what I'm doing. Even on the hottest days, my run will be in gentle light with a temperature, at worst, in the low 70s.
