"The Biden administration weighed putting the president’s name on stimulus checks to make sure he got credit for helping the millions of Americans who will receive aid — but rejected the idea in recent days."

"The White House is planning for President Biden to hit the road to promote the $1.9 trillion plan, but officials have not settled on where he should go. And there is currently no major advertising campaign focused on the proposal. As Democrats celebrate what they see as one of the most significant domestic policy achievements in modern history, the White House has yet to fully develop a strategy for the next crucial step: selling it to the American public."

From "Biden wants to sell the stimulus. The White House is still figuring out how" (WaPo).

What's going on? The phrase that comes to my mind is: The President Who Wasn't There.

Probably not in the way they imagine.

This has got to be some sort of stupid joke. Because everyone knows that the President trying to get his name on the checks is the kind of unhelpful grandstanding that puts politics above getting people help:

Wow, only 3 months in office and Biden has already achieved the "most significant domestic policy achievements in modern history!"

It's all down-hill from here, I guess.

Considering 61% of Americans support it, how much "selling" needs to be done?

Foolish article and a foolish post.

Isn't it a done deal? Why does Biden have to sell it?

Biden's name simply emphasizes it was the Democrats (1) cut the amounts back from what Biden promised, and (2) delayed the checks for months to load the bill with pork for their special interest backers.

Hence, Biden wants some distance and can only "sell" that if there is no rebuttal.

Squelching any opposing message: that's the strategy the White House is working on.

Aren’t these mostly direct deposit?

Too many people out there who think that if his name is on the check, and he dies before they cash it, they will have to wait for a new check to be cut.

What, exactly, is Biden's sales pitch? If this is the "most significant domestic policy achievement in modern history" it doesn't need to be sold. He and his people are apparently too stupid to be embarrassed.

Biden just pushed through a 1.9 trillion stimy with a 1 vote majority in the senate. But according to Sparky, Biden is "stupid" and according to Ann, he's "the president who isn't there".

The Portland (ME) Press Herald breathlessly reports that BILLIONS are headed Maine's way from the, um, whatever it is they call it. The "most significant domestic policy achievement in modern history" but that's too wordy (MSDPAIMH). Anywho, it appears that Susan Collins' very visible visit to chat with Slo' Joe about the stimulus bill wasn't about an attempt to sell him on a smaller, less costly, more focused plan, no, it was about getting more for Maine. Whatevs, it's money we don't have that our grandchildren and great-grandchildren will be on the hook for. Which is nice. Not to be a buzz kill, but I and mrs. stevew will be getting nothing.

I would be fine with Biden's name being on the checks, as long as it was in smaller font than the name of every federal taxpayer.

Credit where credit is due.

Arashi said...

Most of the stimulus checks were direct deposit, though some of them came as a debit card - which they charged you each time you used it unless you went to one of their approved banks. So they got some of the money back - which I am sure went into the currently un-spent 1 trillion bucket, to which we are now adding another 1.9 trillion we do not have. It is OK, as we can print all of the fiat currency we want to print.

Good times, good times...

Browndog provides the money quote for why Biden's name isn't on the check. Remember everyone, Trump was impeached for supposedly delaying and withholding aid promised to a foreign country. Biden delayed and withheld aid he promised to the American people.

I also don't think Biden's promise to provide $2000 checks was due to his diminished mental capabilities, but I don't know. Perhaps it was caused by Biden Derangement Syndrome. Still, it is hard to call this story BDS when the only thing Biden did was sign the bill passed by Congress. Biden certainly didn't lobby Congress to deliver on his promise either in value or in a timely matter. Biden, as Althouse suggests, wasn't there.

And shouldn't selling be something done prior to closing the deal? When you are having to sell something after closing the deal, it is usually because the people stuck with the deal hate it and wish they were no longer stuck with it. Maybe it is BDS to think selling after closing the deal is a good idea.

"As Democrats celebrate what they see as one of the most significant domestic policy achievements in modern history'

It is. And one of the most destructive. Compare to GOP accomplishments when they had the power. Dems play to win.

"the White House has yet to fully develop a strategy for the next crucial step: selling it to the American public."

Why do you need a strategy to sell the giving away of money to people, to unions, to cities and states? Americans like other people's money. Contrary to Thatcher, it is not clear that Dems will run out of it soon, provided they can keep adding debt.

"What's going on? The phrase that comes to my mind is: The President Who Wasn't There."

But he is there. The Althouses of America could have prevented it. But Biden being there is where we are.

Why? Because everything the media is pushing is a lie. Simple.

Why is the military bivouacked in Washington DC? Biden supposedly got more votes than any President in history. Why would citizens riot?

The lie is, Biden won the election, and there is overwhelming support for this porkulous legislation.

Reality is nobody believes Biden got so many votes, and 70% of the people know this is a Democrat graft in broad daylight

Not a single Republican in either chamber of Congress voted for this heist. The Democrats are tossing a pittance to the American people while sending much, much more to their cronies and henchmen, foreign and domestic. They have thrown the gates to the border wide open to bring in a new population of people who will be beholden to the Democrats and (they hope) will vote for them in perpetuity. They seek to spread California's AB-5 dysfunction nationwide with the PRO Act. They cater to criminals while ignoring the plight of their victims. They huddle behind fences and barbed wire in the Capitol City, fearful of the wrath of their disenfranchised erstwhile countrymen. They should be fearful. This will not end well.
