"Here's how the full moon helped free the stuck ship Ever Given in the Suez Canal."

Space.com explains.
"We were helped enormously by the strong falling tide we had this afternoon," Peter Berdowski, CEO of Boskalis, the salvage firm charged with freeing the Ever Given, told The Associated Press. "In effect, you have the forces of nature pushing hard with you, and they pushed harder than the two sea tugs could pull."

Interesting combination of human stupidity and human ingenuity.

Well, I've been educated. I would have thought they'd want a higher tide, not a lower one.

So sad that people who read "Space.com" and think they are intelligent need to have "tides" explained to them.

A high tide that is falling and pulling on the ship in the direction it needed to go.

A rising tide lifts not all boats.

Hilarious!! I hope I can find it again.

A comedian giving Trump's bombastic response to the Suez crisis as "Just add more water!!".......and what does the moon do??

So long article just to say 'tides.'

People are stupid.

Shoot! All you need is a transmission jack! My father-in-law can tell you 1001 ways to do all sorts of stuff with a transmission jack.

This guy does not know how to ask for a bonus, rather, “in spite of the falling tide, my crew and I were able to counter the tremendous forces of nature and free the ship 12 hours sooner..”

It helps that Suez is a sea level canal with no locks.

If that's science we're in trouble.

Tides are long length water waves, excited by the moon and sun but travelling on their own. Effects like delay and amount of rise and fall depend on local conditions.

It's not pulling on the boat, in particular.

If you run aground, always try to do so at low tide.

A big toilet plunger in the sky.

But think if they did have locks, or could engineer some movable dams and pumps to create an artificial spring tide.
