Forever Pats fan me is rooting for Brady, and Gronk. I don't get the TB, and Gronk, hatred from the locals. The Pats left him, he didn't leave us.

Watch out for KC and Mahomes, that bunch can put up points quickly.

Zoomed with friends tonight, haven't seen them since Covid. Got some insight as to why that is the case. For example, mrs. stevew and I have been going out to eat pretty much once a week since late June, early July. The others on the call were surprised, they have voluntarily isolated themselves for the duration. Sad. They all pin their hopes on getting the vaccine. I'm unlikely to get it even if it is offered, this could make me persona non grata. Oh well.

Explain, please. If someone is going to live rent free in my head it only seems fair that I would have heard of her/him.

BTW, it turns out I didn't hate Brady after all - it must have been Belichick all along. Suck it Pats.

I'm an old white man and I don't have the slightest clue who she is. I've never heard of her prior to this comment thread.

I don't mind that liberals live in a fantasy land, but if you're going to live in a fantasy land, why make it such a dark and unpleasant one? What's the attraction?

Here is a transcription of Gorman's poem in which she honored the three honorary captains of the Super Bowl game: a nurse, a teacher and a Marine veteran.

"Today we honor our three captains
For their actions and impact in
A time of uncertainty and need.
They've taken the lead,
Exceeding all expectations and limitations,
Uplifting their communities and neighbors
As leaders, healers, and educators.
James has felt the wounds of warfare,
But this warrior still shares
His home with at-risk kids.
During Covid, he's even lent a hand
Love-streaming football for family and fans.
Trimaine is an educator who worlds nonstop,
Providing his community with hotspots,
Laptops, and tech workshops
So his students have all the tools
They need to succeed in life and in school.
Suzie is the ICU nurse manager at a Tampa Hospital.
Her chronicles prove that even in tragedy, hope is possible.
She lost her grandmothers to the pandemic,
And fights to save other lives in the ICU battle zone,
Defining the frontline heroes risking their lives for our own.
Let us walk with these warriors,
Charge on with these champions,
And carry forth the call of our captains!
We celebrate them by acting with courage and compassion,
By doing what is right and just.
For while we honor them today
It is they who every day honor us."

Impressed by Brady/Gronk. Getting it done. KC making too many avoidable errors, not least this fool (32) who thinks it’s a good idea to get up in Brady’s grille. Really, child?

That contempt can run two ways, as she may discover.

While driving to my COVID test yesterday morning, the Vegas tout for some online betting was sharing his lock prop bet: the line was 11 penalties for the both teams in the Super Bowl, and he said the under was a lock: the refs notoriously let 'em play in the post-season!

So much for that lock. Didn't count on the gal enforcing tacky-tack pass interference (I swear, I couldn't even see the contact on the last long pass from Brady that set up the last TD). And I'm vaguely rooting for the GOAT to win.

I am usually pretty aware of new music, but I have never heard of her.

Not watching the game, but checked the stats- the penalty differential is probably the key factor if I had to guess.

I lived in CT for 20 years, but never really a Patriots fan, but started to pull for them the more people hated them over the last half decade. I usually root for the game's underdog, which is Tampa Bay tonight. 21-6 is nothing- the Chiefs can put up 28 points before an old man can go to the bathroom and squeeze out a piss.

Where is the middle ground on abortion?

That's an ancient question with divergent answers. Some religions believe that a child can be scalped. While others disembowel the little "burdens". Others recycle her profitable parts a la Planned Parenthood sect. Others yet sequester her carbon pollutants in a secular appeal (i.e. capital, control, empathetic, sympathetic) to climate stasis. Now that the CCP has found common ground with their Western ideological partners, there should be progress on all fronts without borders.

If I were dictator and could revise the history curriculum there's two changes I would make. First I would make it plain that the First Nation culture that was here when the settlers came was the matrix which formed the next culture, ours, meaning by that that the First Nation trails became our roads and the First Nation villages which were emplaced on the sites which gave the best opportunity for farming, hunting and trade, became our villages and then our cities. And seeds from the First Nation crops which were adapted to the soil in the different parts of America became the seeds that made the settlers in those different areas successful farmers. Forgetting this contribution was the work of the Progressives at the beginning of the 20C who built up social sciences that designated civilized and savage modes of behavior.
But then I would also point out that in America there are two farming areas. One is north of the Mason-Dixon line and the Ohio and is like Northern Europe and was formed by the arrival and withdrawal of the glaciers. North European farmers using First Nation seeds could farm it easily. And the second farming area is like West Africa and was formed when West Africa and North America were one continent, a similarity which was not erased by the glaciers which did not reach the American South. And the North European settlers learned from West African farmers whom they kidnapped for their skills how to handle the different soils. And this learning from West Africans on how to farm the South was also ignored by Progressives who represented slavery as a desire for strong backs rather than for skills which North Europeans did not have.
A study of local history in any area would, I am convinced, show these contributions; and would also show that in the late 19th and early 20th centuries the city-dwelling Progressives by generally denigrating all farmers as hicks lost sight of the contribution of these other farming cultures. These cultures and the European settlers willingness to learn from them or the way in which they used them are significant parts of our history.

So, given that underlying demographic picture, why would you advertise trucks or beer or mortgages using actors who represent at most 40% of your target market? Is it because your market doesn't care about color, it just wants a good beer and a good truck and a funny ad? If so, why are you obsessing about color? If instead your market does care about color, why are you ignoring 60% of the market?

The relevant landmass was "Avalonia" and the geological signature is very much present here. It's somewhat humbling to wander around in the local woods and see bedrock formations that match those a full ocean away.

We watched the game and were mostly mystified by the Deep Fake Vince Lombardi (? - I think it was him) giving an inspirational speech.

KC looked like kids playing adults, and all those penalties killed them. #32 should be fined and benched for some number of games at the beginning of next season just for making a fool of himself and contributing to his team's loss.

The halftime show wasn't horrible. My favorite of the ads was Drake from State Farm, but that's just evidence the ads were totally lame this year. We reminisced fondly about past great Super Bowl ads like the ETrade baby, herding cats, and Clydesdales playing football. Nothing even came close this year, although I supposed Edgar Scissorhands made the attempt.

I live in Long Beach, which is in L A County. The county health nuts said no outdoor tv for the sb. Wife and I went out to pick up a couple of burgers and got a good chuckle when we noticed that the restaurants had put their tv in their windows facing the sidewalk so their patrons could watch the game. Big FU to the health nuts.

True story. Ask a German what percentage of Americans are black and you’ll get an answer of 40-50%

Why? Because that’s what they see on American TV shows.

I teach high school, and most of my students think that. They also think that slavery was a uniquely American evil.

I know educated adults that have called me a liar for saying that Black people only make up 13% of the population, White people make up 77% of the population and that over 50% of all violent crime is committed by Black men.

David Duffy said...

Oh, and Ms Thomas wears number 53, the same number I wore in my last year of football when guys who had a few pounds on me were verbally abusing at the end of each play.

Gahrie said...

Most White people don't think of themselves as White, they think of themselves as American. So as long as the PoC looks and behaves American they don't care. However most PoC definitely do think of them selves as their race, so including them in excessive numbers is pleasing to them. So we get lots of PoC.

[W]hen a Florida recount threatened to undo Republican George W. Bush’s less-than-1,000-vote lead in the Sunshine State and hand the 2000 presidential election to Democrat Al Gore, the elders of the GOP drafted [Roger] Stone — a notorious dirty trickster with roots in the criminal presidency of Richard Nixon. ([and] . . . on an aborted third-party campaign . . . [for] Donald Trump.)

Stone quickly set up shop in vote-rich, majority-Democratic Miami-Dade County. On the morning of Nov. 22, 2000, government workers expecting to conduct a recount there were surprised by an angry mob of hundreds of people storming the building, and with radio DJs urging more people from Miami’s conservative Cuban community to pour down. The vanguard of this counterrevolution, though, was a gaggle of well-dressed young white men with deep ties to the Republican establishment . . . .

The outrageous part . . . is that Stone’s mini-coup against American democracy worked. The Miami vote counters — intimidated and lacking adequate security — left and never did conduct that full recount. The shenanigans allowed a GOP-heavy Supreme Court to declare Bush the Florida winner by 537 votes and become America’s 43rd president.

So writes Will Bunch at The Philadelphia Inquirer - and you thought the problem was hanging chads!

Here's the rest of the story that gadfly won't tell you:

"Bush v. Gore, 531 U.S. 98 (2000), was a decision of the United States Supreme Court on December 12, 2000, that settled a recount dispute in Florida's 2000 presidential election between George W. Bush and Al Gore.

On December 8, the Florida Supreme Court had ordered a statewide recount of all undervotes, over 61,000 ballots that the vote tabulation machines had missed. The Bush campaign immediately asked the U.S. Supreme Court to stay the decision and halt the recount.... On December 9, the five conservative justices on the Court granted the stay for Bush, with Scalia citing "irreparable harm" that could befall Bush, as the recounts would cast "a needless and unjustified cloud" over Bush's legitimacy....

In a per curiam decision, the Court first ruled 7–2 (Justices Stevens and Ruth Bader Ginsburg dissenting), strictly on equal protection grounds, that the recount be stopped. Specifically, the use of different standards of counting in different counties violated the Equal Protection Clause of the U.S. Constitution. Second, the Court ruled 5–4 against the remedy, proposed by Justices Stephen Breyer and David Souter, of sending the case back to Florida to complete the recount using a uniform statewide standard before the scheduled December 18 meeting of Florida's electors in Tallahassee.[1] The majority held that no alternative method could be established within the discretionary December 12 "safe harbor" deadline set by Title 3 of the United States Code (3 U.S.C.), § 5, which the Florida Supreme Court had stated that the Florida Legislature intended to meet.[2] That deadline arrived two hours after the release of the Court's decision. The Court, stating that not meeting the "safe harbor" deadline would therefore violate the Florida Election Code, rejected an extension of the deadline.

The Supreme Court decision allowed the previous vote certification made by Florida Secretary of State Katherine Harris to stand for George W. Bush, who thereby won Florida's 25 electoral votes. Florida's votes gave Bush, the Republican candidate, 271 electoral votes, one more than the 270 required to win the Electoral College.

Media organizations[3][4][5] later analyzed the ballots and found that, under any considered criteria, the originally pursued, limited county-based recounts would have confirmed a Bush victory, whereas a statewide recount would have revealed a Gore victory.

It bears reminding that Gore pissed in his own whiskey by initially demanding a recount only in certain counties. Miami-Dade County was one of the counties where ballots were re-counted. There's where the Equal Protection issue comes up.

"The Miami-Dade County Democratic Party chairman suspected that thousands of ballots in this county might have been affected by a voting machine glitch.[8] He suspected that these miscounted ballots, after re-tallying, would help candidate Al Gore.[8]"

[After the Nov 22 "riot"] Miami-Dade County official canvassers, in order to meet a court-ordered deadline, decided to limit the county's recount to the 10,750 ballots that their tabulation machines had been unable to tally.

So the so-called Brooks Brothers riot didn't prevent a legal recount. And Gore didn't lose because of it.

The Tom Brady hate is pretty funny, but here is a comment from Sailer's blog that nails the reality:

"Ha ha! Tom Brady is the GOAT. No true football fan can hate him at this point. It would be like hating Babe Ruth, Roger Bannister, or Wayne Gretzky. At this point, we should feel happy to watch such greatness and feel inspired to go out and achieve more for having seen someone accomplish such feats.

That’s the real dividing line among men. Does Tom Brady make you feel great and want to achieve more or does he make you feel small and jealous? Remember, for the other men playing for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers it’s the former. Tom Brady can inspire others with his work ethic and talent. Let’s all try to do the same in our own way."

Yancey Ward said...

So, that was Amanda Gorman again? If she’s a poet, the term has no meaning. And her reading was atrocious. She read a series of declarative statements, but refused to pause between sentences, thereby turning the whole thing into one endless run-on sentence.

And of course, in the spirit of the evening, which was devoted to the White Genocide Project, none of her “heroes” was a White man.

I only heard Gorman because CBS misled the public about kickoff time, announcing that it would be at 6:30 p.m. I tuned in at 6:31, to find she’d just begun. If the network had been honest, millions of football fans would have skipped Gorman.

Now, every communist “president” has to have an affirmative action black female fake poet read a fake or awful poem at his inauguration (Maya Angelou, Elizabeth Alexander, Gorman). I suppose it was fitting that a fake poet would read a fake poem at the fake inauguration of fake president Joe Biden. And seeing that, thanks to mail-in election fraud, we now live in a one-party totalitarian dictatorship, we will be afflicted with fake presidents and black fake poets for eternity.

Two comments on the football game itself. KC's offensive line was rearranged and patched together with the loss of their two pro bowl quality tackles. For me, the big question was could they still do the job. From the very start, it was obvious that they couldn't, and the game was all but lost from that point on. As for the defense, the refs didn't let them play. Even Boomer said it at half time. Also it didn't help that the Chiefs let Tampa get under their skin, so that they were suckered into getting caught time and again. That's on the Chiefs. But Romo (and I) after watching a replay of the Brady-Mathieu contratemp said they could just as easily have called the penalty on Brady rather than or as well as Mathieu.

This takes nothing away from how good Tampa Bay was. They surely won. It's just my take on why this turned into a laugher rather than the tight game it should have been.
