Unfortunately it would either be blocked, or labeled as false, and “lacks context”
The only misinformation allowed is the propaganda of the left.

And what about Kamala Harris's bail fund? Her disgraceful comments ("they're not gonna let up and they should not") and conduct (promoting a bail fund for rioters) are certainly impeachable under this "incitement" standard. She arguably did more than incite. She procured.

It doesn't show Corey Booker (during the Kavenaugh trial) telling Democrats to go to the hill and get up in Congressmen faces....

Disgraceful. I have Russian friends who lived in the Soviet Union and they are starting to remember what their life there was like here.

What happens when this sideshow ends?

I mean... I imagine the Democrats, the Media, and the Biden administration would like to have a permanent Trump impeachment hearing going on for the next four years. Day after day of Senators endlessly blathering, witnesses talking about how bad the orange man is ad nauseam. It could be a distraction for the public from the slow moving catastrophe being caused by the general incompetence and malfeasance of the Biden administration.

hawkeyedjb said...

It doesn't even rise to the level of hypocrisy. To be a hypocrite, you have to believe that something is wrong, even though you engage in it. These turds don't believe violence or incitement are wrong. They care about results.

I originally saw it shared on Twitter.

But Facebook might have some rule about taking video clips out of context. Here, that's *exactly* the idea. It's humor. Devastating humor.

I'm almost surprised that Google hasn't taken away your Blogger creds at this point.

The clip you showed is not news or new to at least half the country. Those who don't know of these things are willfully ignorant, or part of the problem. And those who are a part of the problem are also, if I may say so, co-conspirators in a very real coup of the now former President. They tried with all that they had set up in the previous four years. But to get him out of office, they went steps further:
(a) shut down the economy due to Covid. No, they didn't plan it, but they made hay out of it;
(b) while shutting things down, allow riots, looting, burning, destruction, and murder to take place in multiple cities. Encouraging it. Calling it 'peaceful'. Flaming it. And I can guarantee you, funding and directing it.
(c) stealing the election using virtually every facet of government, media, Big Tech, to do so. A manipulation laid out recently (and arrogantly) in Time called 'fortifying' the election.

Today Washington DC is still behind a 12' fence with razor wire, while manned with thousands of National Guard troops. Does that look like a group of people who are confident and secure in the knowledge that they won the election and did so fairly?

This does not go away. The country is seething right now. Signing 70 Executive Orders that all stick a finger in the eye of those seething is not a path to unity. I see all of this as a path to instigate.

wild chicken said...

Ann, if you're not watching the trial how do you know whether the impeachment managers have shown intent? Are you reading selected transcripts later?

Not sure who else I trust to assess their case. McCarthy maybe but everyone has a grift now.

-- The reaction on 1/6 was, in part, because people saw the violence in 2017's insurrection going unchecked, and thought, "Hey, political violence is allowed." Violence has *already been allowed* during elections. Remember in 2016 when Trump was forced to cancel a rally due to threats of violence? Nothing on 1/6 is unprecedented -- there was violence (precedented) during an invasion of the Capitol (precedented). The two happening in tandem is just the natural progression from years long unchecked violent raids of state and city government centers.

Look: I get it. Trump bad. I don't like Trump. But I can at least realize that the reactions happening from Trump's supporters today are *directly due to the actions taken by Democrats since 2016.*

If you want to stop political violence, it would have been nice if you signed up to stop political violence when the rest of us were also trying to stop it.

I don’t see how this deal the Democrats take for granted can continue.

We’ve conceded to the left/Dems the right to field paramilitary forces, Antifa and BLM, at will. The Dems bring out their paramilitary forces in the run up to every election now.

The other side is not going to continue to agree to remain peaceful. Eventually, the right/GOP will field its own paramilitary forces.

"Let's consider what an acquittal means for violence following future elections. That which is permitted becomes mandatory."

This is pretty idiotic. The Senate won't be acquitting the rioters. They'll be acquitting Trump. To convict Trump, you must establish a close connection between Trump and the violence. If you assume that such a close connection exists, making Trump directly responsible for the violence, then sure, he should be convicted.

And "that which is permitted becomes mandatory" sure sounds nice and thoughtful. Too bad it's meaningless. In many states you are permitted to marry your first cousin. It's not mandatory. I think you're a bit confused. The real saying is, "everything which is not forbidden is allowed." Which sounds like a tautology. It just means there is a presumption in favor of liberty and the onus is on the government to justify any of its restrictions on liberty.

Greg The Class Traitor said...

Too late for that, chum. that happened in 2017, when no charges were filed against any of the violent thugs:
https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/arrests-violence-flares-parts-capital-inauguration-day/story?id=44925970

That happened in 2018, when none of the left wing "protesters" attacking the GOP, and the Senate Hart Building and elsewhere, were punished for their crimes

That happened in 2020, when Antifa and BLM burned, destroyed, looted, and murdered, and got nothing but support from the Democrats. When President Trump sent Federal law enforcement after Democrat rioters assaulting the Portland Federal Courthouse, and the Democrat politicians sided with the attackers, not the police.

You want to block violence in future elections? Put in jail, and out of office, every single Democrat politician who supports BLM, and justifies, defends, or excuses Antifa.

Impeach and block from holding office any Democrat prosecutor who fails to prosecute every single left wing protester caught doing anything violent.

You ARE the violence. Stop pretending that you aren't the problem

I looked at the clip; I glanced at the hearing a bit as I walked by the tube my wife likes to leave on (in a normally empty room). Schiff was sleazy in round one, but he didn't appear to be distinctly second rate. These guys were second rate--not terribly impressive. Now it's possible that these clowns actually believed what they were saying. And that's sad.

I was taking out the trash this morning and thinking of the lyrics of Barry McGuire's "Eve of Destruction"--written by 19 year old P.F. Sloan in 1964. One verse goes:

"Yeah, my blood's so mad, feels like coagulatin'
I'm sitting here, just contemplatin'
I can't twist the truth, it knows no regulation
Handful of Senators don't pass legislation
And marches alone can't bring integration
When human respect is disintegratin'
This whole crazy world is just too frustratin'
And you tell me over and over and over again my friend
Ah, you don't believe we're on the eve of destruction"

There are a lot of 19 year olds---and those whose mind never developed past the age of 19, on both sides of the political divide who believe that we are on the eve of destruction as a nation. The elite should know that the peasants are on the edge of revolting.

Seems to me that clip let Democrats off way too easy, especially Schumer and Pelosi.

Schumer's incitement in front of SCOTUS was not susceptible to the rhetorical analogies that would apply to electoral consequences for politicians.

Should have added Pelosi's comment that "People will do what they do."

"Ann, if you're not watching the trial how do you know whether the impeachment managers have shown intent? Are you reading selected transcripts later?"

I read news articles and watch the edited video -- esp. at the NYT. I keep asking people to point me to the intent evidence I need. I keep hearing about what the evidence is and I know that's not the thing I'm looking for. I infer that the thing I want isn't there and remain open to whatever clips and transcripts would rebut that inference.

The more I think about that phrase ("that which is permitted becomes mandatory"), the more I realize how creepily authoritarian it is. I should have done a Go Fund Me. I'll watch 20 hours for $10,000. But I just thought of that. Too late!

Anyway, those who are hot to get Trump -- like, I presume, the NYT -- have a strong motivation to highlight the most damning material. So my inference that it's not there is better than my own bored, jaded observation followed by my statement of belief about what WASN'T there.

No, Spiros, the 2017 inauguration violence was the Democrats Beer Hall Putsch.

Antifa are the Democrats SA. They think that because they're dressed in black they're the future SS, but they're really just Brownshirts, and they'll be the one to get it is the Democrats get to have a Night of the Long Knives.

We don't know who the Democrats' Goebbels is, or who their Leni Riefenstahl will be, but that's only because just about every single member of the MSM is competing for those roles

This was in the Brittanica article on Goebbels:
In May 1933 he was instrumental in the burning of “unGerman” books at the Opera House in Berlin. “The era of extreme Jewish intellectualism is at an end,” Goebbels triumphantly told the crowd. A month earlier, Hitler had commanded him to organize a boycott of Jewish businesses.

Gee, I wonder which side I America is doing things like that? See "cancel culture"

Still, during our occupation of Germany, we made possessing any literature or media of the Third Reich against the law. So we're kind of guilty of the same thing.

Anyways, no need to worry. Digital book burning is the future. Books will be censored or will disappear at the click of a button. No spectacle at all...

The House impeachment managers aren't trying to make a legal case for conviction in the Senate. They're putting on impeachment theater to assure constituents that all action possible is being taken to assure that a vile, detestable monster like Donald Trump will never again be allowed to hold public office in the United States. Once that's understood, the issue of hypocrisy goes away. Is that too condescending of voters? Eric Swalwell, Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib, Adam Schiff and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, to name a few, were all re-elected with their behavior as elected officials in full public view.

A: If he altered the Tweet, that's really, really, super bad. Like, forging evidence bad.

B: The woman clearly meant to bring the cavalry, as the phrase "bring the Calvary" referring to the location where Jesus was crucified is not a real phrase.

So, in a most charitable read of his actions, I think what happened is Swalwell was doing was trying to do the equivalent of bracketing a typo in a quote to show that the original has been changed... but is too incompetent to realize how to do that.

Then you can stop right there. because he did alter the tweet, by adding. blue checkmark to it.

Matt Sablan said...

I'm trying to explain how I think the stupid mistake happened; I'm not defending him.

B: The woman clearly meant to bring the cavalry, as the phrase "bring the Calvary" referring to the location where Jesus was crucified is not a real phrase.

Per the referenced article, the woman claims she did intend to use the word Calvary.

Merriam-Webster gives the following definition for the word Calvary:

1 : an open-air representation of the crucifixion of Jesus
2 : an experience of usually intense mental suffering

While she may have misused the word, I do not think it's fair to say that calvary can't be used in a phrase.

So, in a most charitable read of his actions, I think what happened is Swalwell was doing was trying to do the equivalent of bracketing a typo in a quote to show that the original has been changed... but is too incompetent to realize how to do that.

And a perfectly reasonable reading could also be that Swalwell is exhibiting a Mitchell/Rubin level of elitist stupidity.

Well, "bringing in the cavalry" is a pretty common figure of speech that most likely hasn't been used in the literal, military sense since actual cavalries were common (meaning soldiers on horseback). At any rate, it seems to me that anyone with a modicum of sense wouldn't immediately infer "cavalry" to mean armed insurrectionists.

Well, OK. What does the evidence show as pertains to the charging document?

The Article of Impeachment refers to Trump precisely as president subject to removal from office.

That is, it is an element that must be proven that Trump is president and thus removable. The evidence, of course, totally fails to establish this. The evidence in fact proves the opposite.

The senators do not - and should not - go any further than this sine qua non essential element of impeachment.

Yeah, I don't understand that. I guess the reasoning is that the dissenting Senators are like a district judge whose dismissal order for lack of jurisdiction was reversed on appeal. He must now decide the merits on remand because there is a definitive ruling on the question of jurisdiction.

The analogy breaks down badly, though. Senators are not lower courts. They can do whatever they want. If a Senator believe there is no jurisdiction to convict Trump, he or she should still vote to acquit, even if you're absolutely convinced he's guilty of high crimes and misdemeanors.

Senators take oaths to uphold the Constitution. A Senator would violate that oath if he or she voted to convict while believing there is no jurisdiction to convict.

The Senate has no constitutional enumerated power to dictate to State/s who is allowed on the ballot. The constitution is very clear about the qualification to serve as President. There is no bar of "denied by vote of Senate". States would have no legal or constitutional standing to prevent President Trump from the ballot. The Senate lacks authority, and power, to enforce their vote.

That is why Scholarship rightly defines Officer, and office of honor and profit as not elected persons, or elected office. Voters are perfectly capable determining the fitness of office, without the input of other elected persons that serve at the pleasure of voters. Not the other way around.

You know, given the peculiar nature of this proceeding, it is especially important to assure that Trump is afforded due process. A conviction would effectively disenfranchise the tens of millions of voters who would want the opportunity to vote for Trump in 2024.

In this proceeding, the presiding "judge" is a partisan Democratic Senator. The "jurors" are also among the supposed victims of Trump's alleged incitement to violence. The charging document was filed mere weeks ago, and yet the "trial" has already begun. No witnesses are testifying. The "evidence" against Trump mostly consists of stray social media posts and unverified media reports. Apparently Swalwell "introduced" phony evidence.

In short it's a kangaroo court and completely political. It's dumb theater for angry partisans. The process is not fair to Trump or his voters, and the hoped-for end result would be an extraordinary power grab. More to the point, Democrats want Trump convicted simply so they can go after Trump supporters. A convicted Trump adds to the case that Trumpism is akin to Nazism and America, like post-war Germany, needs to be de-Trumpified. A convicted Trump adds substance to future Democratic efforts to ramp up domestic terrorism legislation aimed at the "far right," loosely defined as to the right of Schumer.

1. It justifies their illegal and unethical persecution of Trump from the day he announced his candidacy;

Readering: "But I do enjoy the circular firing squad here."

95% vs 5% is not sufficient to create a circular firing squad.

We will just add geometry to history, political science, military tactics, geo-political diplomacy and trade policy as areas where readering has demonstrated profound ignorance.

On the plus side of the ledger, readering now occupies the (alas, ceremonial only) Dustinguished Inga Chair Of Self-Proclaimed Mind-Reading Wiz-Kid-ery.

So readering has that going for him/her/xer.

Which is nice.

Are you upset that you lied about Officer Sicknick being killed in the riots?

Are you upset that you repeated untruths fed to you by your leaders and you used those to attack people you disagreed with?

Are you upset you are part of a diseased evil political movement that lies and smears their political opponents with blood libels?
