Would love to share this to humor piece to Facebook. Unfortunately it would either be blocked, or labeled as false, and “lacks context” The only misinformation allowed is the propaganda of the left.
And what about Kamala Harris's bail fund? Her disgraceful comments ("they're not gonna let up and they should not") and conduct (promoting a bail fund for rioters) are certainly impeachable under this "incitement" standard. She arguably did more than incite. She procured.
I mean... I imagine the Democrats, the Media, and the Biden administration would like to have a permanent Trump impeachment hearing going on for the next four years. Day after day of Senators endlessly blathering, witnesses talking about how bad the orange man is ad nauseam. It could be a distraction for the public from the slow moving catastrophe being caused by the general incompetence and malfeasance of the Biden administration.
It doesn't even rise to the level of hypocrisy. To be a hypocrite, you have to believe that something is wrong, even though you engage in it. These turds don't believe violence or incitement are wrong. They care about results.
I'm almost surprised that Google hasn't taken away your Blogger creds at this point.
The clip you showed is not news or new to at least half the country. Those who don't know of these things are willfully ignorant, or part of the problem. And those who are a part of the problem are also, if I may say so, co-conspirators in a very real coup of the now former President. They tried with all that they had set up in the previous four years. But to get him out of office, they went steps further: (a) shut down the economy due to Covid. No, they didn't plan it, but they made hay out of it; (b) while shutting things down, allow riots, looting, burning, destruction, and murder to take place in multiple cities. Encouraging it. Calling it 'peaceful'. Flaming it. And I can guarantee you, funding and directing it. (c) stealing the election using virtually every facet of government, media, Big Tech, to do so. A manipulation laid out recently (and arrogantly) in Time called 'fortifying' the election.
Today Washington DC is still behind a 12' fence with razor wire, while manned with thousands of National Guard troops. Does that look like a group of people who are confident and secure in the knowledge that they won the election and did so fairly?
This does not go away. The country is seething right now. Signing 70 Executive Orders that all stick a finger in the eye of those seething is not a path to unity. I see all of this as a path to instigate.

I think I have a crush on you today!! THIS!! 1,000,000,000,000 times THIS!!!
My not-paying-much-attention take on this Impeachment is that Democrats are pounding the table because they don't have the law, or the facts, and they can't pound either of those.
Let's consider what a conviction means for violence following future elections. That which is punished unjustly deserves revolutionary correction against the punishment.
"Let’s consider what an acquittal means for violence following future elections. That which is permitted becomes mandatory."
-- The reaction on 1/6 was, in part, because people saw the violence in 2017's insurrection going unchecked, and thought, "Hey, political violence is allowed." Violence has *already been allowed* during elections. Remember in 2016 when Trump was forced to cancel a rally due to threats of violence? Nothing on 1/6 is unprecedented -- there was violence (precedented) during an invasion of the Capitol (precedented). The two happening in tandem is just the natural progression from years long unchecked violent raids of state and city government centers.
Look: I get it. Trump bad. I don't like Trump. But I can at least realize that the reactions happening from Trump's supporters today are *directly due to the actions taken by Democrats since 2016.*
If you want to stop political violence, it would have been nice if you signed up to stop political violence when the rest of us were also trying to stop it.
I don’t see how this deal the Democrats take for granted can continue.
We’ve conceded to the left/Dems the right to field paramilitary forces, Antifa and BLM, at will. The Dems bring out their paramilitary forces in the run up to every election now.
The other side is not going to continue to agree to remain peaceful. Eventually, the right/GOP will field its own paramilitary forces.

Ann Althouse said... But Facebook might have some rule about taking video clips out of context. Here, that's *exactly* the idea. It's humor. Devastating humor.
It's not humor, and they're not out of context. They're entirely in context.
The Democrats are lying sack ld sh!t and monster, trying to destroy America.
They did to America everything they accuse Trump of doing, except that they actually did incite, and their followers did murder.
"Let's consider what an acquittal means for violence following future elections. That which is permitted becomes mandatory."
This is pretty idiotic. The Senate won't be acquitting the rioters. They'll be acquitting Trump. To convict Trump, you must establish a close connection between Trump and the violence. If you assume that such a close connection exists, making Trump directly responsible for the violence, then sure, he should be convicted.
And "that which is permitted becomes mandatory" sure sounds nice and thoughtful. Too bad it's meaningless. In many states you are permitted to marry your first cousin. It's not mandatory. I think you're a bit confused. The real saying is, "everything which is not forbidden is allowed." Which sounds like a tautology. It just means there is a presumption in favor of liberty and the onus is on the government to justify any of its restrictions on liberty.
Left Bank of the Charles said... Let’s consider what an acquittal means for violence following future elections. That which is permitted becomes mandatory.
Too late for that, chum. that happened in 2017, when no charges were filed against any of the violent thugs: https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/arrests-violence-flares-parts-capital-inauguration-day/story?id=44925970
That happened in 2018, when none of the left wing "protesters" attacking the GOP, and the Senate Hart Building and elsewhere, were punished for their crimes
That happened in 2020, when Antifa and BLM burned, destroyed, looted, and murdered, and got nothing but support from the Democrats. When President Trump sent Federal law enforcement after Democrat rioters assaulting the Portland Federal Courthouse, and the Democrat politicians sided with the attackers, not the police.
You want to block violence in future elections? Put in jail, and out of office, every single Democrat politician who supports BLM, and justifies, defends, or excuses Antifa.
Impeach and block from holding office any Democrat prosecutor who fails to prosecute every single left wing protester caught doing anything violent.
You ARE the violence. Stop pretending that you aren't the problem
I looked at the clip; I glanced at the hearing a bit as I walked by the tube my wife likes to leave on (in a normally empty room). Schiff was sleazy in round one, but he didn't appear to be distinctly second rate. These guys were second rate--not terribly impressive. Now it's possible that these clowns actually believed what they were saying. And that's sad.
I was taking out the trash this morning and thinking of the lyrics of Barry McGuire's "Eve of Destruction"--written by 19 year old P.F. Sloan in 1964. One verse goes:
"Yeah, my blood's so mad, feels like coagulatin' I'm sitting here, just contemplatin' I can't twist the truth, it knows no regulation Handful of Senators don't pass legislation And marches alone can't bring integration When human respect is disintegratin' This whole crazy world is just too frustratin' And you tell me over and over and over again my friend Ah, you don't believe we're on the eve of destruction"
There are a lot of 19 year olds---and those whose mind never developed past the age of 19, on both sides of the political divide who believe that we are on the eve of destruction as a nation. The elite should know that the peasants are on the edge of revolting.
But, but what was Trump's intent? Did he mean to do something bad? Say the nice women on the sidelines.
In the face of hypocrisy in the Dems' political stunt and the contempt for the Constitution it represents, addressing the merits of the "case" means aiding and abetting the bad guys.

This impeachment is so polite and middle-class. This is leisure politics with no real stakes. It's perfect for hypocritical, lazy, virtue-signalling journalists.
"Ann, if you're not watching the trial how do you know whether the impeachment managers have shown intent? Are you reading selected transcripts later?"
I read news articles and watch the edited video -- esp. at the NYT. I keep asking people to point me to the intent evidence I need. I keep hearing about what the evidence is and I know that's not the thing I'm looking for. I infer that the thing I want isn't there and remain open to whatever clips and transcripts would rebut that inference.
The more I think about that phrase ("that which is permitted becomes mandatory"), the more I realize how creepily authoritarian it is. An extremely paranoid and frightful mindset, and whoever thinks like that should be begging the government to legislate and regulate everything that they don't like. Imagine having so much fear of your fellow man. What a low view of humanity.
The idea that I should watch so you don't have to... well, you'd have to pay me... something like $500 an hour.
I should have done a Go Fund Me. I'll watch 20 hours for $10,000. But I just thought of that. Too late!
Anyway, those who are hot to get Trump -- like, I presume, the NYT -- have a strong motivation to highlight the most damning material. So my inference that it's not there is better than my own bored, jaded observation followed by my statement of belief about what WASN'T there.
Diversity was a good idea, but it guaranteed the asylum would be run by the inmates. You can't expect thoughtful, ethical politicians, when the only qualification is what's between their legs, or how much pigment they have in their skin.
"... thinking of the lyrics of Barry McGuire's "Eve of Destruction"--written by 19 year old P.F. Sloan in 1964."
Thanks for this. My very favorite rock lyrics of all time delivered with a passionate performance. Different parts of those have been relevant from then until this very day as you point out. Will have to listen to it again a few times.
No, Spiros, the 2017 inauguration violence was the Democrats Beer Hall Putsch.
Antifa are the Democrats SA. They think that because they're dressed in black they're the future SS, but they're really just Brownshirts, and they'll be the one to get it is the Democrats get to have a Night of the Long Knives.
We don't know who the Democrats' Goebbels is, or who their Leni Riefenstahl will be, but that's only because just about every single member of the MSM is competing for those roles
This was in the Brittanica article on Goebbels: In May 1933 he was instrumental in the burning of “unGerman” books at the Opera House in Berlin. “The era of extreme Jewish intellectualism is at an end,” Goebbels triumphantly told the crowd. A month earlier, Hitler had commanded him to organize a boycott of Jewish businesses.
Gee, I wonder which side I America is doing things like that? See "cancel culture"
Salwell changed a woman’s tweet, changing Calvary to Cavalry, made her a blue-check Indicating she had influence when she did not, and entered it into evidence. What is her recourse? https://www.wnd.com/2021/02/dems-blunder-tweet-impeachment-hearing/
I don't understand why people here are using legal terms such as "trial" and "acquittal".
This is a stage managed reality show. It is a psychodrama to satisfy the bloodlust of the lefties.
It is also practice for future attempts to destroy non-Democrat presidents. Remember that they were all worse than Hitler before Trump was even on the stage.
In the Seventies, I knew a great guy who loved "Eve of Destruction." He had a T-shirt that said "Armageddon Reconstruction" which fascinated me. What did that mean? Will I ever find out?
The idea that I should watch so you don't have to... well, you'd have to pay me... something like $500 an hour.
Personally I could think of several activities I would rather do than watch this sideshow. Activities like unanesthetized dental surgery or cleaning a gas station bathroom frequented by junkies and mentally ill drifters spring to mind.
Remember: the pendulum always swings. At some point, what is in now will be out. We have just begun to live in "interesting times", and the world has been uncharacteristically peaceful lately. I see a return to our ugliest on the horizon. This will be a result of our generation brainlessly abandoning reason and discipline to make change the supreme value needing no restraint. We started it decades ago, and in hindsight, it's obvious where it had to go.
The Nazi party courted the youth closely. And college students loved book burnings! College towns throughout Germany had torch lit parades with students, professors, and Nazi officials partying through the night. It was an incredible spectacle.
Still, during our occupation of Germany, we made possessing any literature or media of the Third Reich against the law. So we're kind of guilty of the same thing.
Anyways, no need to worry. Digital book burning is the future. Books will be censored or will disappear at the click of a button. No spectacle at all...
The House impeachment managers aren't trying to make a legal case for conviction in the Senate. They're putting on impeachment theater to assure constituents that all action possible is being taken to assure that a vile, detestable monster like Donald Trump will never again be allowed to hold public office in the United States. Once that's understood, the issue of hypocrisy goes away. Is that too condescending of voters? Eric Swalwell, Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib, Adam Schiff and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, to name a few, were all re-elected with their behavior as elected officials in full public view.
"Salwell changed a woman’s tweet, changing Calvary to Cavalry, made her a blue-check Indicating she had influence when she did not, and entered it into evidence"
A: If he altered the Tweet, that's really, really, super bad. Like, forging evidence bad.
B: The woman clearly meant to bring the cavalry, as the phrase "bring the Calvary" referring to the location where Jesus was crucified is not a real phrase.
So, in a most charitable read of his actions, I think what happened is Swalwell was doing was trying to do the equivalent of bracketing a typo in a quote to show that the original has been changed... but is too incompetent to realize how to do that.
Spiros said... The Nazi party courted the youth closely. And college students loved book burnings! College towns throughout Germany had torch lit parades with students, professors, and Nazi officials partying through the night. It was an incredible spectacle.

Yes, and soon enough they'll get to what they really want.
There will be a "gun" incident that will prove MAGA people are too dangerous to be trusted with firearms, and the slow and calculated process to disarm the public will begin in earnest.
If you think this effort will be like the others, with similar results, you haven't been paying attention.
Matt Sablan said... "Salwell changed a woman’s tweet, changing Calvary to Cavalry, made her a blue-check Indicating she had influence when she did not, and entered it into evidence"
A: If he altered the Tweet, that's really, really, super bad. Like, forging evidence bad.
Then you can stop right there. because he did alter the tweet, by adding. blue checkmark to it.
That wasn't a "typo correction", that was outright, deliberate, fraud.
So "that's really, really, super bad", and you can stop defending him now
I'm trying to explain how I think the stupid mistake happened; I'm not defending him.
But, I also don't believe the excuse that the woman meant something about the peace and contemplation of Calvary. Swalwell clearly made a conscious decision to do something wrong. That doesn't mean I have to buy what the woman is saying about her tweet either.
B: The woman clearly meant to bring the cavalry, as the phrase "bring the Calvary" referring to the location where Jesus was crucified is not a real phrase.
Per the referenced article, the woman claims she did intend to use the word Calvary.
Merriam-Webster gives the following definition for the word Calvary:
1 : an open-air representation of the crucifixion of Jesus 2 : an experience of usually intense mental suffering
While she may have misused the word, I do not think it's fair to say that calvary can't be used in a phrase.
So, in a most charitable read of his actions, I think what happened is Swalwell was doing was trying to do the equivalent of bracketing a typo in a quote to show that the original has been changed... but is too incompetent to realize how to do that.
And a perfectly reasonable reading could also be that Swalwell is exhibiting a Mitchell/Rubin level of elitist stupidity.
Ann Althouse said... The idea that I should watch so you don't have to... well, you'd have to pay me... something like $500 an hour. ...
Not the first time you've made such a suggestion, as you well know.
And as I well know, when I mimicked your suggestion (not entirely unseriously, just as you are not being entirely unserious), and suggested that I'd be happy to do some sort of legal research and writing to answer some sort of complaint/question aimed at me, your commenters came after me.
Honestly, maybe she did mean it that way. Let's just say I remain unconvinced, however.
Either way: She's not a public person as far as I can tell, and it is abhorrent that Swalwell or the House Impeachment Managers would try and turn her into one. There are plenty of actual blue checkmarks who probably said something similar they could have used.
Well, "bringing in the cavalry" is a pretty common figure of speech that most likely hasn't been used in the literal, military sense since actual cavalries were common (meaning soldiers on horseback). At any rate, it seems to me that anyone with a modicum of sense wouldn't immediately infer "cavalry" to mean armed insurrectionists.
Orwell’s 1984 redux. The past is memory holed, the future is a simple cartoon narrative, and whatever The Ministry of Truth has the Party’s Media squawk becomes TRUE. And it is a crime against Big Biden to think other thoughts.
The only issue now is how fast the Deplorables who remember American history can be replaced by brainwashed Marxists and immigrant peasants. That’s why Trump is still feared. He dared to fight for us.
"At any rate, it seems to me that anyone with a modicum of sense wouldn't immediately infer "cavalry" to mean armed insurrectionists."

What the hell does "intent" have to do with it?
Are you suggesting they didn't "intend" to say what we see them saying? That someone off-camera is holding a gun to them?
If you're arguing that there's some "context" that changes or shades the meaning of what they said, it's up to you to provide it.
Otherwise we can all see the speakers engaging in rank hypocrisy, or lies, straight up.
Your moral and ethical blindspots are unusually large.

Remember all the claims from “anonymous sources” that said Trump refused to send help to the Capitol? I thought if he left his own VP in a lurch like that, it would be an impeachable offense, just simply on national security reasons alone.
Turns out that was all bullshit otherwise they would have slammed Trump with that. They threw comments made by random people as “evidence” against him, what happened to those anonymous sources?
It's totally a mystery where a fringe of Trump supporters got the idea that rioting was an acceptable way to advance their cause.

A successful PA personal injury lawyer, but hardly the expected response to a Trump demand, Bring me my Roy Cohn.

trump lawyers doing well. Enjoyed it. But most of it was just showing the truth of what trump said and highlighting how the D's LIED about Trump. Or their absurd, insane, hypocrisy about "Fighting words" and "angry language".

Apparently a letter from some "elite" legal people -- partisans all -- have submitted their august judgment to the Senate that because the Senate has denied the motion to dismiss for lack of constitutional jurisdiction, that the senators must now base their votes on the merits of the evidence.
Well, OK. What does the evidence show as pertains to the charging document?
The Article of Impeachment refers to Trump precisely as president subject to removal from office.
That is, it is an element that must be proven that Trump is president and thus removable. The evidence, of course, totally fails to establish this. The evidence in fact proves the opposite.
The senators do not - and should not - go any further than this sine qua non essential element of impeachment.
3:18 EST Defense of President Trump rests. 4 hours and 18 minutes of the allotted 16 hours set aside for the defense of the single article of impeachment.

It’s kind of like how American commies whipsawed their positions as soon as Hitler broke the Hitler Stalin pact proving that there was no principle behind their professed beliefs.
I recently saw a comment to the effect that the reason CJ Roberts refused to show is that he knew there would never be a conviction, so he chose not to waste his time. Setting aside the accuracy of that contention, let's assume for just a moment that the senate does vote to convict and bar from future office. Would they be able to make it stick since Roberts isn't there?
Taken from the Z Man blog: "Still, the spectacle is incredible. We live in an age when a Puerto Rican barmaid and a bald black woman with the IQ of a goldfish stand on the floor of the House sharing their “lived experiences”, which are totally fabricated. Not only that, these people are our rulers or at least members of the ruling class. Things would be less ridiculous if a state put a horse in the Senate. Calling this clown world is an affront to the men who dedicated their lives to making kids laugh at the circus.
"Apparently a letter from some 'elite' legal people -- partisans all -- have submitted their august judgment to the Senate that because the Senate has denied the motion to dismiss for lack of constitutional jurisdiction, that the senators must now base their votes on the merits of the evidence."
Yeah, I don't understand that. I guess the reasoning is that the dissenting Senators are like a district judge whose dismissal order for lack of jurisdiction was reversed on appeal. He must now decide the merits on remand because there is a definitive ruling on the question of jurisdiction.
The analogy breaks down badly, though. Senators are not lower courts. They can do whatever they want. If a Senator believe there is no jurisdiction to convict Trump, he or she should still vote to acquit, even if you're absolutely convinced he's guilty of high crimes and misdemeanors.
Senators take oaths to uphold the Constitution. A Senator would violate that oath if he or she voted to convict while believing there is no jurisdiction to convict.
Hey Readering--according to Joe Biden and John Tester, the right move would be to take Trump out behind the gym and beat the hell out of him or to punch him in the face, or both.
THat's kind of a thuggish crowd you run with. Watch out!
Left Bank of the Charles said... Let’s consider what an acquittal means for violence following future elections. That which is permitted becomes mandatory.
Isn't it revealing left wingers never assert this when dealing with antifa? In those cases we need to address the underlying issues.
We need to get to the root causes of street thuggery, arson, and terrorism. Yeah...that's the ticket.
I've been hearing that tired tune since the 1960s. The only thing that ever worked was broken windows policing and full employment through deregulation and incentives for economic activity through low marginal tax rates.
let's assume for just a moment that the senate does vote to convict and bar from future office. Would they be able to make it stick since Roberts isn't there?
The Senate has no constitutional enumerated power to dictate to State/s who is allowed on the ballot. The constitution is very clear about the qualification to serve as President. There is no bar of "denied by vote of Senate". States would have no legal or constitutional standing to prevent President Trump from the ballot. The Senate lacks authority, and power, to enforce their vote.
That is why Scholarship rightly defines Officer, and office of honor and profit as not elected persons, or elected office. Voters are perfectly capable determining the fitness of office, without the input of other elected persons that serve at the pleasure of voters. Not the other way around.
Amadeus 48: "Hey Readering--according to Joe Biden and John Tester, the right move would be to take Trump..."
Now now.
Take it easy on readering. He/she/xe is still reeling from the full explosure of the lefty lie that Officer Sicknick was murdered by bludgeoning at the capital.
Recall that all the usual pro-ChiCom Althouse lefties/LLR-Man-Boy-Cultist-Lefties were really riding that one hard to advance their latest slew of lies and having the truth come out now has them quite dscombobulated.
The visual presentation re selective edits was pretty good. I wonder if that format has been done before. Dems shouldn't have opened up the opportunity to dismantle the fine people hoax. Ah well. They're a passionate bunch! If the defense team wasn't so buttoned up, would be fun to frame the persecution with a clip from Beavis and Butthead ("You said..fight. Heh heh) or the Itchy and Scratchy theme song: They fight, They bite, They bite and fight and bite, Bite, bite, bite, Fight, fight, fight, The Itchy and Scratchy Show
Tim in Vermont, Giving you a chance. Not familiar with Bill's body of work, right?
Amadeus, obviously if Biden and Tester called on notorious teen Readering to go "peacefully" demonstrate at Mar a Lago, then there would be trouble and time to alert the SS.
When the Democrats claim it is necessary to keep Trump from being elected (or being) President again, they mean they want to take away other people's right to vote for him. They certainly aren't at risk of voting for him themselves.
Honestly, I believe a poll question in favor of giving Trump to ISIS to be beheaded would top 70% positive for the Leans Democrat category.
Harlingen, TX "Valley Morning Star" by way of Associated Press:
Democrats: RIOTERS ACTED ON TRUMP 'ORDERS' Prosecutors wrap up trial arguments
By LISA MASCARO ERIC TUCKER MARY CLARE JALONICK and JILL COLVIN The Associated Press
WASHINGTON — House prosecutors concluded two days of emotional arguments in Donald Trump’s impeachment trial late Thursday, insisting the Capitol invaders believed they were acting on “the president’s orders” to stop Joe Biden’s election, the deadly culmination of Trump’s pattern of spreading false and violent rhetoric that will continue to vex American politics if left unchecked.
================
Waitaminit! "...insisting the Capitol invaders BELIEVED...."
Not the same as showing beyond reasonable doubt the "Capitol invaders believed."
Nowhere near showing Trump issued "orders."
And ya wanna know what vexes my ass if left unchecked? We can begin with excessive involvement of the Federal Government in the daily lives of citizens: courtesy of the voters.
Listened to a few minutes of NPR's coverage - stone cold lies about the violence in the cities last year - it didn't happen except for a few small incidents in Portland.
And that was from one of their reporters doing a "fact check."
I don't know where we go from here. They used to at least make an honest effort to lie more convincingly in the past. They're not even trying now.

And what's more there will be a bunch of head-scratching reports when Portland turns into the Detroit of the Pacific Northwest.
I turned them off a couple of years ago when it was clear that they were nothing more than propaganda for the Dims. They had always been biased but presented some interesting info from time to time. Then all their mezzos became sopranos and their baritones became tenors. They lack the voice of authority and are totally useless, because they aren't even effective propaganda.

Sure, they could make it stick.
And since "Offices under the United States" are all appointed offices, Trump could never again be appointed to any Federal government office, even one that doesn't require Senate confirmation.
But he could still run for President in 2024. Full details: https://gregquark.blogspot.com/2021/01/no-congress-can-not-keep-trump-from.html
Amendment 14, Section 3: No Person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice-President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any State, who, ...
Here's the impeachment power: Judgement in Cases of Impeachment shall not extend further than to removal from Office, and disqualification to hold and enjoy any Office of honor, Trust or Profit under the United States
It doesn't prevent you from running for office, winning, and holding that office. It just prevents you from getting an appointed office
The democratical leftists/LLR-Man-Boy-Cult-lefties apparently did not believe they really had "slam dunk" "evidence" of Trump inciting an insurrection so they simply did what they always do: they falsified evidence.
And Hillary/Marc Elias/Comey/Brennan/Glenn Simpson /Wray/McCabe/Strzok/Steele/Clinesmith et al smile......
Since Xao Bai Den and his regime are busily making the Presidency an "office of profit", I think the meaning of Amendment 14 Section 3 will have to change and Trump won't be able to be President in 2024 or after.
Just the other day readering was doing his/her/xer usual schtick and claiming that this Soviet Show Trial "impeachment" would immortalized and taught in schools and every word would be memorized by those kids.
So I am curious as to which actors would play the roles of the democraticals who doctored every single piece of fake "evidence" used against Trump by the Kafka-esque Kangaroo-ers?
The best time to try to stop political violence is yesterday. The second best time is today.
Right wing violence has already stopped as the non-protests at the inauguration showed. Left wing violence is ongoing though. At least now that the chaos cannot be mis-framed as Trump's lack of control local leaders are taking the steps to control it. Of course doing so shows they always knew how to control riots they just chose not to because Dems accurately believed it would help get them elected.
It's a shame so many Americans caved to Dem extortion tactics like this and destroying our economy for political gain.
You know, given the peculiar nature of this proceeding, it is especially important to assure that Trump is afforded due process. A conviction would effectively disenfranchise the tens of millions of voters who would want the opportunity to vote for Trump in 2024.
In this proceeding, the presiding "judge" is a partisan Democratic Senator. The "jurors" are also among the supposed victims of Trump's alleged incitement to violence. The charging document was filed mere weeks ago, and yet the "trial" has already begun. No witnesses are testifying. The "evidence" against Trump mostly consists of stray social media posts and unverified media reports. Apparently Swalwell "introduced" phony evidence.
In short it's a kangaroo court and completely political. It's dumb theater for angry partisans. The process is not fair to Trump or his voters, and the hoped-for end result would be an extraordinary power grab. More to the point, Democrats want Trump convicted simply so they can go after Trump supporters. A convicted Trump adds to the case that Trumpism is akin to Nazism and America, like post-war Germany, needs to be de-Trumpified. A convicted Trump adds substance to future Democratic efforts to ramp up domestic terrorism legislation aimed at the "far right," loosely defined as to the right of Schumer.
rcocean said...Any way, good that Althouse is ignoring all this.
Of course she is. This is not a trial in any sense of the word. None of the "evidence" presented by House managers would be admitted into a court of law. The "judge" is also a jury member who pronounced guilt before any "evidence" was presented.
This is a Senate hearing/scripted reality show. They are trying to make those who slightly pay attention to headlines believe that Trump is a (fill in the blanks). It has several purposes:
1. It justifies their illegal and unethical persecution of Trump from the day he announced his candidacy;
2. It distracts from the Biden-DNC administration which will rapidly fail;
3. It is a camel's nose in the tent of Free Speech. They will be proposing "hate speech" laws soon, and
4. It give the crazy leftists orgasms to see them try to beat up on Trump. These people are that deranged.
Yeah, It was Seth Barrett Tillman's previous writings on what it means to hold an "Office under the United States" that caused me to look at things, and decide I agreed with him.
The entire Soviet democratical Vyshinski-ite Show Trial crew manufactured false evidence and the entirety of the voice-actuated Althouse Lefty/LLR-Man-Boy-Cult-Lefty crew bought into every lie.
I appreciate that Nikki Haley just committed political suicide as well.
Hopefully people will stop making themselves look silly by mentioning her as a strong 2024 candidate.
She might run. She might be a candidate.
But Tulsi Gabbard would get more support in a republican primary in 2024 than Haley.
Fourteen, 15,16,17 year old kids being indoctrinated now will be voting in 2024. Lif voters will believe what MSM tells them Dems will be supported by MSM and social media. Republicans will be blocked on social media, and lied about by media.
I offer one caveat: it is possible Haley believes the democratical/Big Tech/ChiCom/Uni-Party has effectively consolidated and will make permanent their cheat by mail infrastructure for both primary and general elections.
In which case it makes some political and alot of personal income sense for Haley to establish herself as the best "Washington Generals" fakecon candidate to be placed in the role of "challenger" (wink wink) to the democraticals and their Lincoln Man-Boy-Cult Project lap poodles.
Basically, what the democraticals had by circumstance with Romney/Ryan (a couple of fakecon democrats in "republican" clothing) they will have by design in the future.
Btw, has anyone else noticed that the ezrly favorite for the republican nomination in 2024, DeSantis, is usually not included as a choice in the State Nedia polls?
The lefties are already telegraphing what they are going to do.
And that is also why the people who are performing Bidens brain functions are constructing elaborate political attacks against Florida.
Haley committed political suicide? She is already doing a nice job dancing away from her comments and back to Trumpist fold. Like McCarthy, who had a screaming match with POTUS on 1/6 but then flew to the Southern White House to kiss the ring.
"She is already doing a nice job dancing away from her comments and back to Trumpist fold. Like McCarthy, who had a screaming match with POTUS on 1/6 but then flew to the Southern White House to kiss the ring."
-- Eh, the sitting VP accused the sitting President of being a sexist, racist segregationist. Politicians making up after saying mean things is normal.
The thing that really pisses me off about this video is that, instead of using this as a reason to commit, now, to holding people accountable at the highest levels when they play these kinds of games, it's going to be used as an excuse to do nothing.
If she is Christian, she could very well be using it as a play on words, where instead of referring to the military cavalry arriving to save the day, she is referring to depending on Christ's death and resurrection as the ultimate saving force.
Which is EXACTLY how she meant it. It was a pun.
Drago is right that this is evidence tampering and should not fly by so lightly.
"The Democratically controlled Senate spends thousands of collective hours conducting an impeachment trial against a president who is no longer president.
The acquittal is predetermined, as in the first impeachment effort a year ago — and known to be so to the Democratic prosecutors.
The constitutionally mandated presiding judge — the chief justice of the Supreme Court — refused to show up.
Chief Justice John Roberts apparently believes an impeachment trial of a private citizen is either a waste of time or unconstitutional — or both."
Readering: "But I do enjoy the circular firing squad here."
95% vs 5% is not sufficient to create a circular firing squad.
We will just add geometry to history, political science, military tactics, geo-political diplomacy and trade policy as areas where readering has demonstrated profound ignorance.
On the plus side of the ledger, readering now occupies the (alas, ceremonial only) Dustinguished Inga Chair Of Self-Proclaimed Mind-Reading Wiz-Kid-ery.

Hyperbole and bad faith, all around.
Someday the reckless catastrophizing will start something serious, and no one will remember what started it.
Would love to share this to humor piece to Facebook.
Unfortunately it would either be blocked, or labeled as false, and “lacks context”
The only misinformation allowed is the propaganda of the left.
And what about Kamala Harris's bail fund? Her disgraceful comments ("they're not gonna let up and they should not") and conduct (promoting a bail fund for rioters) are certainly impeachable under this "incitement" standard. She arguably did more than incite. She procured.
It doesn't show Corey Booker (during the Kavenaugh trial) telling Democrats to go to the hill and get up in Congressmen faces....
Disgraceful. I have Russian friends who lived in the Soviet Union and they are starting to remember what their life there was like here.
What happens when this sideshow ends?
"Would love to share this to humor piece to Facebook."
I originally saw it shared on Twitter.
But Facebook might have some rule about taking video clips out of context. Here, that's *exactly* the idea. It's humor. Devastating humor.
But to get him out of office, they went steps further:
(a) shut down the economy due to Covid. No, they didn't plan it, but they made hay out of it;
(b) while shutting things down, allow riots, looting, burning, destruction, and murder to take place in multiple cities.
Ann, if you're not watching the trial how do you know whether the impeachment managers have shown intent? Are you reading selected transcripts later?
I'm hoping you are because I'm not following it too closely myself.
Not sure who else I trust to assess their case. McCarthy maybe but everyone has a grift now.
But Jill and Joe have a cute Valentines celebration planned for this weekend!

Let’s consider what an acquittal means for violence following future elections. That which is permitted becomes mandatory.
Thank you. I'm going to be spreading that video around
LB, I seem to remember plenty of violence after the 2016 election. Seems like the cat is already out of the bag.

The Democrats are lying sack ld sh!t and monster, trying to destroy America.
They did to America everything they accuse Trump of doing, except that they actually did incite, and their followers did murder.
This was Trump's Beer Hall Putsch.
Democrats are power-whoring liars and hypocrites? No way!
Democrats lie? Hypocrites? Nah... they just themselves.

Too late for that, chum. that happened in 2017, when no charges were filed against any of the violent thugs:
https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/arrests-violence-flares-parts-capital-inauguration-day/story?id=44925970
"Yeah, my blood's so mad, feels like coagulatin'
I'm sitting here, just contemplatin'
I can't twist the truth, it knows no regulation
Handful of Senators don't pass legislation
And marches alone can't bring integration
When human respect is disintegratin'
This whole crazy world is just too frustratin'
And you tell me over and over and over again my friend
Ah, you don't believe we're on the eve of destruction"
There are a lot of 19 year olds---and those whose mind never developed past the age of 19, on both sides of the political divide who believe that we are on the eve of destruction as a nation. The elite should know that the peasants are on the edge of revolting.
"A pithy montage of incitement hypocrisy"
But, but what was Trump's intent? Did he mean to do something bad? Say the nice women on the sidelines.
In the face of hypocrisy in the Dems' political stunt and the contempt for the Constitution it represents, addressing the merits of the "case" means aiding and abetting the bad guys.
Democrats named Chuck Schumer can threaten violence against Supreme Court justices without consequence.

But when you return it's the same old place

That you don't believe we're on the eve of destruction
This impeachment is so polite and middle-class. This is leisure politics with no real stakes. It's perfect for hypocritical, lazy, virtue-signalling journalists.
Seems to me that clip let Democrats off way too easy, especially Schumer and Pelosi.
Schumer's incitement in front of SCOTUS was not susceptible to the rhetorical analogies that would apply to electoral consequences for politicians.
Should have added Pelosi's comment that "People will do what they do."
I give it a 75. It's got a good beat and you can dance to it.
Hypocrisy, thy name is DEMOCRAT.
@bleh
The Dems claim the sole right to paramilitary violence.
This is not going to hold.
It is inevitable that the other side will develop their own paramilitary forces in response.

This was in the Brittanica article on Goebbels:
In May 1933 he was instrumental in the burning of “unGerman” books at the Opera House in Berlin. “The era of extreme Jewish intellectualism is at an end,” Goebbels triumphantly told the crowd. A month earlier, Hitler had commanded him to organize a boycott of Jewish businesses.
Gee, I wonder which side I America is doing things like that? See "cancel culture"
Ann, if you're not watching the trial how do you know whether the impeachment managers have shown intent?
What witnesses did they call in the House before voting to impeach?
They don't need no stinking intent!
Surprised that Anne put this up.
"Surprised that Anne put this up."
Imagine thinking that was dangerous just 1 year ago.

This does not go away. The country is seething right now. Signing 70 Executive Orders that all stick a finger in the eye of those seething is not a path to unity. I see all of this as a path to instigate.

There will be a "gun" incident that will prove MAGA people are too dangerous to be trusted with firearms, and the slow and calculated process to disarm the public will begin in earnest.

You have to do hypocritical things with your life to prove you are a Democrat.

1 : an open-air representation of the crucifixion of Jesus
2 : an experience of usually intense mental suffering
While she may have misused the word, I do not think it's fair to say that calvary can't be used in a phrase.
So, in a most charitable read of his actions, I think what happened is Swalwell was doing was trying to do the equivalent of bracketing a typo in a quote to show that the original has been changed... but is too incompetent to realize how to do that.
And a perfectly reasonable reading could also be that Swalwell is exhibiting a Mitchell/Rubin level of elitist stupidity.

As usual.

Are you suggesting they didn't "intend" to say what we see them saying? That someone off-camera is holding a gun to them?

Absurd hypothetical:
I recently saw a comment to the effect that the reason CJ Roberts refused to show is that he knew there would never be a conviction, so he chose not to waste his time. Setting aside the accuracy of that contention, let's assume for just a moment that the senate does vote to convict and bar from future office. Would they be able to make it stick since Roberts isn't there?

1. It justifies their illegal and unethical persecution of Trump from the day he announced his candidacy;
2. It distracts from the Biden-DNC administration which will rapidly fail;
3. It is a camel's nose in the tent of Free Speech. They will be proposing "hate speech" laws soon, and
4. It give the crazy leftists orgasms to see them try to beat up on Trump. These people are that deranged.
@Greg The Class Traitor:
Josh Blackman and Seth Barrett Tillman on the Impeachment Disqualification Clause
The hearings revealed the troops at the Capitol will remain until they can get Trump to SAY THE WORDS.
The struggle (session) is real.
David Schoen kicked ass today.
“The best time to try to stop political violence is yesterday. The second best time is today.“
That is certainly the most hypocritical way to do it, excuse your friends, then burn your enemies.
@MountainMan
Yeah, It was Seth Barrett Tillman's previous writings on what it means to hold an "Office under the United States" that caused me to look at things, and decide I agreed with him.
Thanks for the link
Thank you, Ann, for that on-target set of clips. Shot them down, you did!

"Apparently Swalwell "introduced" phony evidence."
There was nothing "apparently" about it.
The entire Soviet democratical Vyshinski-ite Show Trial crew manufactured false evidence and the entirety of the voice-actuated Althouse Lefty/LLR-Man-Boy-Cult-Lefty crew bought into every lie.
Without exception.
not just the Senators, narciso, the left will say that individual Americans deserve violent retribution if they support Trump's acquittal.

You are a completely dishonest person. You do not believe a single thing you say.

Lif voters will believe what MSM tells them
Dems will be supported by MSM and social media.
Republicans will be blocked on social media, and lied about by media.
Nikki Haley just "Jeb Bush-ed" herself.
And that is also why the people who are performing Bidens brain functions are constructing elaborate political attacks against Florida.
she surrendered the high ground, after that tweeker shot up the church, now every historical figure and monument, is up for canceling,
Haley committed political suicide? She is already doing a nice job dancing away from her comments and back to Trumpist fold. Like McCarthy, who had a screaming match with POTUS on 1/6 but then flew to the Southern White House to kiss the ring.
But I do enjoy the circular firing squad here.

I need to add that that is not my mind reading of her tweet. She is on record now saying she meant that pun.
vdh:
"The Democratically controlled Senate spends thousands of collective hours conducting an impeachment trial against a president who is no longer president.
The acquittal is predetermined, as in the first impeachment effort a year ago — and known to be so to the Democratic prosecutors.
The constitutionally mandated presiding judge — the chief justice of the Supreme Court — refused to show up.
Chief Justice John Roberts apparently believes an impeachment trial of a private citizen is either a waste of time or unconstitutional — or both."

And the way you stop it is by going after the Democrats who regularized it
But you're not willing to do that, because you're a Democrat.
Yes, I know you claim to be something else. But that's a lie.
"By their fruits shall ye know them." You give the Democrats a pss for the things you attack Republican Trump for. You are , therefore, a Democrat
The mob-left. They lie
The mob left - in their own words
I think the Lincoln Man-Boy-Cult Project /Trump-hate money-whore hole and pedophile ring is about to implode.
Oh well - they served their cult purpose. They helped usher in the most corrupt administration to ever ruin our nation.
Everything the Lincoln Project touches dies
The photo. LOL. You must be a balding pudding-white pudge to join.
God dammit! What did Chuck blow and when did he blow it?!?!
Looks like a murder of dickheads, BFTPFCP.

Well it is Paul Montagu, narciso. A known clown, one of the 7 or 8 remaining commenters at that termite mound of a blog.
Readering: "Haley committed political suicide? She is already doing a nice job dancing away from her comments and back to Trumpist fold."
I see readerings political analysis "skills" are as "sharp" as ever.
Btw, did readering ever take back hus/her/xer's repeated lies about Officer Sicknick being bludgeoned to death?
Or are we just supposed to file that lie next to the Fine People Hoax and the assertion that Kavanaugh was a rape gang leader?
Readering: "But I do enjoy the circular firing squad here."
95% vs 5% is not sufficient to create a circular firing squad.
We will just add geometry to history, political science, military tactics, geo-political diplomacy and trade policy as areas where readering has demonstrated profound ignorance.
On the plus side of the ledger, readering now occupies the (alas, ceremonial only) Dustinguished Inga Chair Of Self-Proclaimed Mind-Reading Wiz-Kid-ery.
So readering has that going for him/her/xer.
Which is nice.
This video is on YouTube, so if Google didn’t want it, it could oust it from there. No reason to come after me.

Are you upset that you lied about Officer Sicknick being killed in the riots?
Are you upset that you repeated untruths fed to you by your leaders and you used those to attack people you disagreed with?
Are you upset you are part of a diseased evil political movement that lies and smears their political opponents with blood libels?
