"Federal prosecutors offered an ominous new assessment of last week’s siege... saying in a court filing that rioters intended 'to capture and assassinate elected officials.'..."

"The detention memo, written by Justice Department lawyers in Arizona, goes into greater detail about the FBI’s investigation into [Jacob] Chansley, revealing that he left a note for Pence warning that 'it’s only a matter of time, justice is coming.' 'Strong evidence, including Chansley’s own words and actions at the Capitol, supports that the intent of the Capitol rioters was to capture and assassinate elected officials in the United States government,' prosecutors wrote.... 'When questioned as to the meaning of that statement, Chansley went on a lengthy diatribe describing current and past United States political leaders as infiltrators, specifically naming Vice President Mike Pence, former President Barack Obama, former Senator Hillary Clinton and U.S. President-elect Joe Biden as infiltrators involved in various types of wrongdoing,' prosecutors wrote. 'Although he stated his note was not a threat, the Government strongly disagrees.' The prosecutors’ assessment comes as prosecutors and federal agents have begun bringing more serious charges tied to violence at the Capitol.... In Chansley’s case, prosecutors said the charges 'involve active participation in an insurrection attempting to violently overthrow the United States government,' and warned that 'the insurrection is still in progress' as law enforcement prepares for more demonstrations in Washington and state capitals...."

From "'Strong evidence' suggests Capitol rioters intended to ‘capture and assassinate’ officials, US prosecutors say" (Fox News). Chansley is the rioter who's getting extra attention because he costumed himself in a fur hat and horns. He also, as the detention memo says, "has spoken openly about his belief that he is an alien, a higher being, and he is here on Earth to ascend to another reality."

Sounds like a matter for ICE, not the FBI.

What were the intentions of any other rioters in the US in the past 12 months?
1. Economic justice via looted reparations. Or looting.
2. Destruction of federal state and local government buildings and the people in them.
3. Anarcho-communist exclusive territorial acquisition.

All 3 resulted in injury and death. Can I hear a "Whatabout" cheer?

Yeah. This whacko gets to speak for all Trump supporters now.

Now, I don't doubt there are other whackos in the mob who would have gone for it, because mobs do that. But, I'm not ready to let a broad brush be used against every protester, even those who didn't enter the Capitol or engage in violence, when we, as a country, have never allowed that broad of a brush to be used in other riots.

Seems like pretty thin gruel.
And at some point the plural "rioters" turned into a single individual with apparent mental health issues. This might have something to do with the claim: a line of men wearing olive-drab helmets and body armor trudged purposefully up the marble stairs in a single-file line, each man holding the jacket collar of the one ahead.

The formation, known as “Ranger File,” is standard operating procedure for a combat team that is “stacking up” to breach a building — instantly recognizable to any U.S. soldier or Marine who served in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Now why would peaceful protesters need to do that?

Matt Sablan said...

The same reason peaceful protesters attacked the White House, burned down various cities, nearly burned down a police station with people inside, and ransacked court houses.

Because not everyone there is part of the peaceful protest.

Also, this isn't ominous or new. It has been one of the theories floated since before the riot even happened that people would try and kill Congress people. It's one of the many reasons people are floored by how poorly defended the place was. Hell, people should have been fearing for an attack on Congress for YEARS since the Kavanaugh protesters admitted they'd have used violence to breach the Capitol if they hadn't been peacefully let in. We've known people wanted to violently attack Congress since someone unloaded on a Congressional baseball team and another tried to kill Rand Paul. There's nothing new in this report, except a crazy person agreed with them that some other protesters besides the usual suspects had signed up for political violence.

The FBI arrested ANTIFA activist and agitator John Sullivan last night for his role at the Capitol. This was after he appeared as an expert witness to the events on CNN's Anderson Cooper.

NOTHING here is as it seems or as we are being told.

From the linked article:

TOOELE COUNTY, Utah — Utah activist John Sullivan was taken into custody in Provo Thursday, over a week after he shared video of himself inside the U.S. Capitol as protesters breached security.
Sullivan, 26, was charged in federal court with:
• One count of knowingly entering or remaining in any restricted building or grounds without lawful authority
• One count of violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds
• One count of interfering with law enforcement engaged in the lawful performance of their official duties incident to and during the commission of civil disorder

The arrest document states Sullivan can be seen outside the Capitol building using a microphone as he told the crowd “we about to burn this s___ down,” “we got to rip Trump out of office... f_______ pull him out of that shit... we ain’t waiting until the next election... we about to go get that m__________.”
While in the Capitol, Sullivan was wearing a ballistics vest and gas mask

My friend (someone I work with in my line of work) and his partner (not love partner-work partner) traveled to DC to show their support. (I am purposefully being respectful of their privacy.)
He told me he wanted to go to DC a few weeks back, but then said he wasn't going to go. so I thought he didn't go. I spoke to him yesterday afternoon at length and he told me HE DID go. They flew into Baltimore and stayed there - then drove to DC.

Anyway - his account - and he took footage with his phone - was the rally itself was very peaceful and large. A large crowd of Trump supporters waiting for Trump. AS they waited they sang patriotic songs in unison like "God Bless America", etc..

He said after Trump's speech, they did walk to the capitol, and it was clam... until they arrived at the Capitol - that's when he said it got weird. Noted the crowd sort of changed. All of a sudden there where people with bullhorns, gas masks, and shields. He thought immediately they didn't seem like real Trump supporters.

Anyway - they left after they heard broken glass. I'll have to ask him about the tear gas because he mentioned something about that as well, but I forgot what he said.

I agree with Matt Sablan. If there was a concrete plan to kill members of Congress, there would be dead, or at least wounded, members of Congress. Given how close Antifa could get to members of Congress during their riots, it would not be difficult to pick a few of them off in a well prepared scheme. Also, see Steve Scalise.

Given the revelations of corruption over the past 4+ years, the DOJ no longer gets the benefit of the doubt. Put up or shut up. This seems closer to "shut up." They don't have much so this will have to do. On the plus side, at least it is stronger evidence than the "pee tapes."

They had evidence. $100,000 in ad buys on Facebook. The problem is the evidence showed ad buys for BLM including operation of a Facebook community with 224,000 followers. Obviously that didn't fit the FBI narrative that Russian was colluding with Trump; so they dumped the case hoping the evidence wouldn't get out. Chansley is charged with two felonies: committing an act of civil disorder that
obstructed the conduct of a federally-protected function, and obstructing an official
proceeding.

Makes you wonder why if the US Government believes there is "Strong Evidence" that he was plotting to kidnap and assassinate government officials they didn't bother indicting him for that. I feel badly for the lawyer who was assigned to write this memo. It must feel pretty awful to have to write bullshit arguments that are ridiculous stretches of law and reality. If you have the time I urge you to read the actual included Memo, which the article appears to be based on. It is 18 pages but not too long. The facts that they go over make it seem like American Patriot Shaman at worst was engaged in a Diet version of a riot. The two felonies he is charged with are literally based on him criminally trespassing in an area where he was not supposed to be which disrupted a federal proceeding, (there seem to be facts to support this), and when a Capitol Hill police officer asked him to use his bullhorn (the electronic megaphone type not his head attire), to ask the crowd inside the building to disperse and leave he did not do so.

What investigative steps are being taken by the Capitol Police, by the DOJ Civil Rights Division? Officer Sicknick likely died of natural causes and he's being lauded as a martyr. Unarmed Ashli Babbitt was shot to death under color of law and her death is ignored. Give us the facts, or there is no justice. Who am I kidding? There is no justice.

They are working on a way to justify it. The excuses so far have been pretty weak. They must find something in her behavior to make her seem dangerous.

Not only do we know that, the trolls here know it also.

My opinion is best thing would be to tell the truth. The shooter panicked. With all the riots and cops being beat and attacked, they never fired a shot.
With any cop shooting a bad guy getting the full doxxing and villianization treatment from media, no way a cool, calm and collected professional going to shoot a woman.

Pretending she might have a concealed weapon doesn't work.

"There's strong evidence" said with a serious voice and furrowed brow. The spokesperson also said not to worry "we have top people working on it. Top people."

Oh bullshit. This hyperbole is ruinous.

This has been a spectacularly successful political operation by the lefties. In every respect, they have achieved beyond their wildest dreams. A remarkable demonstration of political jiu jitsu.

I've just read that the DoJ has walked back this claim, which always was preposterous.

"we have top people working on it. Top people."

That's right. And they are going to put the name in the same safe place - buried deep in some warehouse.

A few paranoid schizophrenics make this threat every day. what is their population? Horn guy seems like a mental case to me. For the DOJ/FBI to work off of an insurrection angle implies to me they are dishonest. Put horn guy in a Mexican sanatorium and analyze him. Soviet style.

Blog us back the report.

To quote Deputy Barney Fife "I think he's a nut".

** This is the key political and law enforcement dynamic at work here. All Q people are potential Barney Fifes if they can get a LEO job. Apparently many of them work their way up to FBI and DOJ leadership positions.

That's why I couldn't find the quote.

It's "top men."

"No 'direct evidence' of plot to kidnap or kill lawmakers in U.S. Capitol attack: Justice Department official" If it's being reported by CNN and Reuters the narrative has changed.

I will believe there is a serious investigation when they find the guy whose actions led directly to the death of Ashli Babbitt. The guy who made no attempt to hide his face. The guy who seemed to be invisible to law enforcement around him. The guy who was allowed to descend a narrow stair case beside tactical law enforcement immediately after the shooting of Ashli Babbitt. Who changed his clothes and escaped the building unremarked.

That would be the shooter. Whose only ID is that he is law enforcement.

Prosecutors over charge as a way to plea bargain down.

Their is no negative for them to overcharge due to prosecutional immunity.

Which is why the Feds have a 92% conviction rate.
https://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2019/06/11/only-2-of-federal-criminal-defendants-go-to-trial-and-most-who-do-are-found-guilty/

And Leftists want the word insurrection, coup, etc used.

The more dangerous and widespread the plot is made to appear, the worse the FBI & capitol police look for being caught by it on the wrong foot.

I just saw an electronic billboards in my area, east of Los Angeles asking for information on the capital violence with an 800 number.

Unbelievable!

I guess Alhouse didn't get the update. Per CNN:

Prosecutors in the case of Jacob Anthony Chansley, the man captured in viral images wearing a horned fur headdress and carrying a spear, have formally requested the court strike a line from a recent filing where prosecutors assert that "strong evidence" exists showing "the intent of the Capitol rioters was to capture and assassinate elected officials in the United States Government," CNN reported.

In other news, prosecutors try (and overstate) their case in the press. The rules designed to prevent this are rarely enforced.

U.S. prosecutors. That’s funny

And this really ominous threat was taken with a yawn by the Capitol police, if, at all, it was raised in advance
