"... and polite conversations that take me back to my childhood growing up in a rural country. Now stuck physically in a noisy concrete jungle in the US but its this 22 mins of calmness that puts me to sleep."

I grew up in Wayne, NJ (a neighboring town) in the 60’s. We played Eastside in football every year. At their field, there was chain link fencing surrounding the playing field, to separate the players from the fans. The refs conducted a pat down for weapons before the game. Good times/sarc.
Reminds me of twenty years ago, when everybody was talking about The Sopranos or The Wire, and we didn't have cable.
Today, having cable seems to be the equivalent of not having cable back in turn of the century days.
Kind of cool, isn't it? "Turn of the century." When I was young, to have been around at the turn of the century meant that you were around when Henry Ford, Edison, the Wright Brothers and Teddy Roosevelt were. Now it may just mean that you have heard of them.
I need a replacement for Bob Ross. I'll give this a look.
Watched ep 1 because of the discussion here. I always prefer to game, so if I watch something it's because my dot, aged 21, will join. Didn't get a thumbs up from her, but she did stay for the whole ep. Jury still out.

You should give 'Terrace House' a try. There are multiple seasons.
It's reality TV about a few young Japanese kids who meet for the first time and live in a house together.
Typically (for Japanese TV) there are studio commentators (very funny ones) who jump in every now and then.
It's just about their lives and hopes, etc. All of the kids are very polite and nothing really earth-shattering ever happens.
It is very Japanese and will bring your blood pressure down a number of points.

I thought I'd like this after reading about it here. Not so much. Characters sacrificed for caricatures. Given all that goes on in tiny spaces like this, it fails to resonate the life within. Total absence of ambient sound lends it a sterility common on the sets of U.S. Soaps. God, I miss Tokyo

The color palette of the show is calming. The small space safe and intimate. Very womb like - I can totally understand the feeling.
I see another Detectorists recommendation on there.
I like Detectorists because it is relativity calm. Supper calm comparative to American's gross gaudy sequined snake-eating Katy Perry-clone American Idol cookie cutter Saturday Night Democrat bombastic Howie big red button gong show culture.
I've watched Detectorists so many times, it is now a wonderful sleep aid. Not because it is boring, but because of the familiar cadence.
Still I do occasionally catch something I've missed in the subtle banter between Andy and Lance.
In season 3 - the camping scenes are great. A small amount of excitement from Andy when Lance brings games. "you brought games!" Kerplunk. and talks about how the local thrift shops have signs that say "No more Kerplunks, thank you." Not a big seller.

I like how low key it is. The opening song sets the mood perfectly. One thing it catches really well is the way people who work the late shift bond with other people who work those hours, even if they have nothing else in common. I hope we never get The Master's back story. In real life we seldom do. Even when we find out, it usually doesn't matter.
