Hoping the cameraman was using some zoom.

Travelling? Nope, the kids and grandkids are joining us at the ranch. And sighting our guns in for Saturday's opening of deer season. My favorite holiday.

“A travel ban would give an unfair advantage to the defense, and we know nobody really cares about defense." The union also noted that without traveling you’d have guys out on the court who play like Magic Johnson, Isiah Thomas, or even like Michael Jordan. And guys who play like that would run circles around the rest of the league because they don't have to travel in order to make a basket.

This is emphatically not me.

The cavalcade of whatever that was at the end captured my attention in that "can't stop watching the car accident" sort of way that makes me react as if I've been offered heroin.

I am at an undisclosed family location that is not my own and which may have more persons than that allowed by the local edicts. Or I may be alone in my coastal southern Maine abode. I even remembered to turn off location services on my device.

Happy Thanksgiving!

The Lions are on today. I'd rather be in a plane with 200 of that guy than have to watch another freakin lousy Lions team. 6 decades of crappy football. Happy Thanksgiving, America. It's our gift to you. Just remember, the crappy football today is brought to you by the same people who made your crappy car: Ford.

So your aunt and uncles have isolated for goodness knows how many weeks. Same with your sister and children. Grandpa hasn’t seen the outside for 3 months. You’ve been stuck at home going stir crazy. None of you have been sick or in contact with anyone who was sick. Yet you are all going to drive to your in-laws and suddenly get the Covid.

The biggest threat is actually going to be from lesser diseases: colds or other bugs. We have sanitized things to the nth degree that our bodies will be vulnerable to the slightest thing. This will be a lot worse for children when their bodies have not been exposed to all the nasties in the world that makes their immune system stronger.

There will be deaths, and long running illnesses and allergies, but not from Covid.

You know that all that does is reduce the resolution by a few hundred meters at best, right?

Oh yeah, and be careful what you say on Facebook,

whopostedwhat.com is a non public Facebook keyword search for people who work in the public interest. It allows you to search keywords on specific dates. You are granted access because of your work.

It’s “Open for all people who support public causes."

"Within these late years, there hath, by God’s visitation, reigned a wonderful plague, the utter destruction, devastation, and depopulation of that whole territory, so as there is not left any that do claim or challenge any kind of interest therein. We, in our judgment, are persuaded and satisfied, that the appointed time is come in which Almighty God, in his great goodness and bounty towards us, and our people, hath thought fit and determined, that those large and goodly territories, deserted as it were by their natural inhabitants, should be possessed and enjoyed by such of our subjects." ––King Jim I

Nope...no traveling. All our family is either dead or too far away to visit or doesn't want to come to visit so far from their homes. No big deal. Our Thanksgiving will be as usual. The two of us, with perhaps an early afternoon visit to or from some friends who also have distant family.

Actually, we did our traveling early in the week to "big" city nearby (90 miles away) spent the night at a nice motel and had take out BBQ beef ribs and bacon wrapped shrimp with all the sides. Nom Nom. No inside eating allowed. Saw my oncologist, who gave me a clean bill of health after my major surgery in September. That's something to be really Thankful for today! Ran a lot of errands. Bought supplies for business. Went BIG grocery shopping. Except for the fact that Coscto is out of TP again...geeze people get a grip....we got everything we wanted and more!

Yes, we wore our raggedy rumpled worn face masks to go into some places. It is all for show anyway...but...whatever. For now.

However, if we wanted to have a big gathering....we would.... and no one would stop us.

Yep. There's a superstitious quality to this virus that is amusing to see. I noticed it yesterday at the store where everyone was wearing masks. Mask wearing in my community was about 50% two weeks ago. I figure the idea is that most don't think the masks work, but really don't want to get sick for Thanksgiving so put it on as kind of a good luck charm.

Wife and I will be spending weekend with son at Lake Oconee where they expect 10 people at their Thanksgiving feast. Son has inside info from Lin Wood, and he is confident that Georgia will be a Trump victory. That is only a short drive half way from Atlanta to Augusta.

I’m taking one for the team, and not visiting any family this year. But me and my SO will have dinner with some friends who live less than an hour away. So at least, there’s that.

I've been out and about consistently while family have barricaded their doors. They've decided Thanksgiving is the time for The Great Reopening, and I'm perversely refusing to join in. The vaccines are imminent, see, so why take chances now? My dog and I will eat turkey at home, till we bust our guts.

Michael K म्हणाले...

I have never been much for traveling on this holiday. I usually had all the family for dinner but we moved away from Orange County five years ago. We were going back every three or four months to see kids and grandkids but the Wuhan flu stopped that. We will be with family for Christmas.

Jaq म्हणाले...

Even if the government thinks they have to limit gatherings, science says that kids don’t seem to spread it, so any limits on gatherings should not include kids. it’s science.

Traveling. Drove from central Florida to just North of Atlanta for Thanksgiving with the kids/grand kids today, then on to NC on Sunday to visit with Brother and friends and to pick up a chest my wife had made and meet with financial advisor for contingency planning. Need to get tax liability aligned for a Biden admin, just in case. Back in FL end of next week. The only person I know who has had the Wuflu has just recovered (mild case, only fatigue and some intestinal problems) and has been cleared to return to interact with us heathens so we'll visit with him in NC as well. Lots of people on the road.

We cancelled our plans to go to PA for Thanksgiving, a wedding and a visit to the Gettysburg battlefield. The PA Governor, the airlines and my wife's Board of Education made it extremely onerous to travel.

Our freedoms are being severely eroded, but it is all for a good cause right?

Didn't we flatten the curve last Spring?

Never have traveled on T-day.

Family and local friends who don't travel & don't have local family (quite a few in California, definitely over the legal limit) are always invited.

We are having a smaller Thanksgiving this year of only ten people, but that's seven different family groups.

We are going to be together longer than two hours.

We are not going to wear masks.

We are not eating outdoors.

We are eating buffet style.

We will be engaging in a few rousing renditions of 100 Bottles of Bear.

That last one isn't true, but I kind of want to.

Four of us (no symptoms but came in from out of state and the hosts/cooks) took Coronavirus tests this past weekend and they all came back negative.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Yay Turkey Day, and a healthy feast to all!

TG travel has never been a big part of our lives--most of our siblings and families lived nearby for decades, but now death and the changes brought with careers have left only me, my wife and son, and brother nearby. To my surprise, bro says he will come over -- he's the most CCPC-paranoid of the four of us, and I'm the least.

But I'm special too, so I'd travel if I needed to

Wife and I will have just us. One son and his wife ate here last year and will be with his in-laws today. Other son’s office has been hit hard with coronavirus in the last few weeks so he’s self-quarantining. I told the wife she didn’t need to make a turkey so no poultry today. First time it’s been just the two of us in 45 years of marriage.

Happy Thanksgiving to all and especially the inhabitants of Meadehouse! Such a strange year. Last year, I was looking forward to travelling back to Pittsburgh to have Thanksgiving with my family. Siblings are of an age such that they are at higher risk, so scratched that idea a few months ago- even before the current surge.
My daughter and her boyfriend will host me for dinner in their new apartment; her first Thanksgiving as a (mostly) independent adult!

Clean bill of health is good.

My wife also had major surgery this year and so far so good (fingers crossed).

We are having just five over for dinner (as opposed to 25 most years) as her chemo regimen has suppressed her immune system.

But we have her improving health to be thankful for...

My partner's birthday is a week before Thanksgiving. As we've gotten older - two celebrations in a month this close together is too much rich food. We went through enough heavy cream for one year a week ago! I've had my rich meal for the month. This year Thanksgiving is all about painting the bathroom. Thus I am thankful for Sherwin Williams and enough good health to go up and down a ladder multiple times.

Have fun whatever you are doing - going all out or ignoring it completely.

Wandering Badger म्हणाले...

we all need Real Science, not the BS from the media who are truly stupid. Lockdowns are insane. Our family got together in NC, coming from LA, Denver and Raleigh - we all did COVID tests last week and are personally responsible for avoiding dangerous situations - but still living our lives. Being with out kids/family for Thanksgiving is critical to our sanity. Even with our precautions - if we get it - so be it; we'll just become part of the herd immunity. We don't want it, and avoid it, but since we don't have underlying medical conditions - so be it, just like the flu - we don't expect serious complications even though were 60 and 67. Note: since we were in NC on the beach, we were able to have Thanksgiving dinner on the deck outside - not that it makes any difference.
