November 9, 2020

"Let’s not have any lectures about how the president should immediately, cheerfully accept preliminary election results from the same characters who just spent four years refusing to accept the validity of the last election."

Mitch McConnell, the majority leader of the Senate, said today, quoted in the NYT

"President Trump is 100 percent within his rights to look into allegations of irregularities and weigh his legal options."

That's some big support for President Trump, and it severely undercuts all the news reports I've been seeing about various Republicans who've supposedly been leaning on Trump to concede. Only 4 Republican Senators have publicly congratulated Biden — Susan Collins, Mitt Romney, Lisa Murkowski, and Ben Sasse.

Here's something that occurred to me as I was recording my podcast today. (You can listen here.) I was reading this post — where I said I wanted "some clear-headed analysis of whether Trump's holding out and fighting will help or hurt the Republicans in the Georgia runoffs."
Even though Trump is unlikely to win for himself, his prolonged fighting will have an effect on who controls the Senate, which will be determined by the 2 runoff elections that will happen on January 5th. Trump's litigation will probably need to end by December 8th (the "safe harbor" deadline). So we're looking at perhaps one month of Trump fighting and then one more month until the Georgia elections.

The Democrats worked hard to produce their big turnout on November 3rd, but can they do it again on January 5th? The scope is smaller — it's just Georgia — but maybe people are tired of politics, and they might feel disengaged after all the satisfaction of seeing Biden and Harris ostensibly win. They might want to settle back and enjoy Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's. Meanwhile, the Republicans might stay hungry, and if Trump is winding them up for the next month, keeping the presidency in play in their imagination, they may have momentum going into January 5th.

That's what I talked about in my podcast, and then I read this about Mitch McConnell. Maybe he's having some similar thoughts. He's got to care deeply about keeping the GOP majority in the Senate, and I assume his statement about Trump's fight to hold onto power is just as much about his own fight to keep his power in the Senate.

No doubt. But to be fair, I'm sure the Democrats quietly told him that they'll throw the House and even the Senate, if only the GOP can keep all major support from the President. The alternative would be full Democrat control and a mysterious end to all elite support of the GOP.

Whatever the reason, McConnell does not look like he's going along.

“Toadie” That’s funny, from a guy who ignores multiple tranches of interlocking emails and sworn depositions, not to mention many years of long investigative pieces, even by the New York Times, The Hill, and Politico of Biden corruption.

That’s what defines a ’toadie’. If you had one one hundredth the goods on Trump that there is now floating around on Biden, and who knows what other kompromat the ChiComs have on Biden, if you had a tiny fraction of this kind of evidence, Trump would be in jail already, and the Republicans would have easily voted to remove.

Eddie W: I have no doubt there was fraud in Atlanta (Fulton and DeKalb Counties). I've witnessed it. Meanwhile, exurb Clayton County, where the feds moved every difficult public housing resident to make Atlanta safe for hipster development, is literally the wild west. Every indicted or convicted crooked politician converged on county government there. With a crazy and much-indicted sheriff who fired every white officer one day and set up sharpshooters to drive them off county property, I wouldn't risk poll watching there.

But we can't discount massive legal and illegal immigration. The wealthy South Asian immigrants who are 20% of many key northern suburbs live conservative but vote Democrat. The west side of the city saw the largest influx of refugees and immigrants in the nation for most of 30 years. And north of that, we have the biggest population of illegal immigrants per capita in the nation due to the poultry (and previously carpet) industries. Largest per capita, in my zip code. Gang problems are exploding.

Population replacement -- both blacks and whites replaced by immigrants of many races -- turned the state Blue. It was only a matter of time. And the state GOP is a hot mess. The sleazy Speaker, Ralston, along with his bag man, Doug Collins, who crashed the Loeffler race, will probably cost the GOP the Senate. Why Trump trusts Collins is beyond me. Worst choice in his political life. It's not a Trump challenge that will impact the Senate race here, Ann, it's a state GOP that can't agree on how to tie its own shoelaces, let alone govern.

Amen, and again amen.

If your conscience is clear, if you have the right on your side, you don't fear the light. But power - or even the hint that power might be in your grasp - is so incredibly corrosive...

Oddly, that's one of the things that changed my mind about Trump, post-2016. (Oh, I voted for him, because there was no way I was voting for Clinton. But I voted for him expecting him to lose - so, no bad effects from voting for an egotist billionaire.) He is an egotist. He is mega-rich - and it doesn't matter whether he's speaking gospel about his net worth; he's mega-rich by any normal standard. He has been so for decades, and has been in the public eye for as long. And, in recent times, his money and notoriety have come more from the raw exercise of power (in the entertainment world - "you're fired!" and all that) than from distasteful compromises. So whatever power was going to do to him, it's already done. He's immune. That's protective of the nation.

Biden is not immune. His whole career has been taking up with distasteful compromises, and his fortune - which is not mega- and hence permits him to retain a whole lot of envy for the mega-rich - has evidently resulted from whoring himself to whoever wanted a piece. Even if I didn't disagree with pretty much every plank in the Democrat platform, I'd still find Trump safer for the United States than Biden.

Easily done. He's saying that it's impossible for the Dems to manufacture enough fake votes to account for fraud. He's also claiming that because the Dems fucked up their Iowa Caucus, it's impossible for them to have wizened up fast enough to manage this level of fraud.

Both claims are bullshit. First off, he wildly overestimates the number of votes the Dems would need to manufacture. They knew that they only needed 4 or 5 key states, not 10. Electorally, that would be enough. That cuts his given figure of a half-million fake votes down to about 180k. Even then, Sidney Powell stated they have evidence that as many as 450k votes were faked or miscounted - so right there, her possible figure aligns with his worst case scenario.

Second, the Iowa Caucus claims. I'm of 2 minds on this. One part of me says that Iowa was a test run for some in-house, old school shenanigans, but it didn't go very well and instead of a rigged vote (with certain outcome programmed in), they ended up with numbers that were so off they couldn't release them for fear of giving up the game. So instead, they hired outside help to pull it off. Maybe Dominion, maybe someone else. The other part of me says that the confusion from the Iowa results was a boon for the Dems, and worked kinda-sorta as planned. Because there was so much uncertainty, nobody felt confident enough to declare a winner, and the results were swept under the rug with a presumptive "winner" announced just to placate the masses - who were still upset, but they sure stopped talking about it pretty quick. Confusion can work in one's favor just as much as hard data can.

I don't believe the author thought his piece through very well, and it reads like very amateur prognostication. But hey, Terry Ott thinks it's pretty good, so that's - um - somthing.

Finally, you can blame McConnell and Ryan for all this. In 2017, Trump started an investigation of Fraud in the 2016 election, with a goal of purging the voter rolls of illegal aliens, dead people, two-state voters, etc. And Ryan and McConnell pooh-poohed the investigation, wouldn't support it, and Trump had to end it.

I’m not a lawyer, but reading between the lines, Dershowitz is saying that DJT can legally drag this out, but he’s still gonna to lose (by comparison Gore only needed to metamorphosisize around 500 votes in a State w/ a complete shit show butterfly ballot of hanging-chads and Jews-for-Buchanan).

https://thehill.com/opinion/white-house/525118-can-president-trump-win-his-election-challenges-in-court?__twitter_impression=true

Hence, Althouse is jabbering about the important thing. DJT has lost, but is it a good idea to for Rs to mess w/ the transition to the next person that Americans have elected for POTUS? Is shitting on norms and comity the way to go if you think that it politically helps Rs? This is the opposite of the mindset re restraint that is imposed re nukes re mutual destruction between nations.

When Althouse and others are gaming out the wisdom of dragging out the transition to the new POTUS, is it useful to consider that the D response will be to further escalate in their own ways? For example a lot of things are constitutionally allowed e.g., court packing, F-ing w/ executive appointments and other directives, and so on. But folks self restrain.

If the Rs feel that they need to delay the end of the POTUS election process, that Dershowitz indicates is already decided, such that, as a bank shot, the Rs think this delay will help them win US Senate races in (of all places) Georgia, it seems like they’d be interested in not completely trashing the idea that parties shouldn’t max out what is technically legal but still historically shitty. If Rs can’t carry Georgia w/o F-ery w/ the transition of power to the incoming POTUS, they may not want to keep shoving the door open re legitimizing new ways to max out screwing over the other side. Especially when the thrust of the aggressive effort is associated w/ further separating the power of Americans that vote from the power of the folks that hold office in DC. Don’t forget that representative Democracy requires representatives that are the result of democracy. That’s the last place to F w/. It’s the base on which all else is built.

Anywho, this post is re Georgia Senate seats re the dragging out of the inevitable re POTUS. Sounds like fun, but unlike Althouse, I’m thinking more than one move ahead. I can’t help it. It’s what I do.

Cute but you're mincing words, it indicates that the voting activity was so abnormal that it would not occur naturally but twice in 10,000 elections. And that number is just in for one city. It happened independently in three democratic controlled cities, Philadelphia, Milwaukee and Detroit? It is an indicator that the voting distribution was not natural. What other than fraud would cause this?

The down ballot discrepancies also indicate that something unnatural occurred. Normal distribution of difference between up ballot and down ballot counts is around 3% with a standard deviation of less than 1%. The 16 % difference is at least 13 standard deviations from the normal. A three sigma event is one in a thousand, a six sigma event is twice in a billion. Several thirteen sigma events happening at the same time is beyond comprehension. Again what other than a planned action would cause this?

I am wondering how the SCOTUS is going to reject the plain text of the Constitution. The cheats in PA have created quite a problem for them.

"The Times, Places and Manner of holding Elections for Senators and Representatives, shall be prescribed in each State by the Legislature thereof”

I think in Bush v Gore we heard a lot about how the legislature has the final say in these things, and yet in PA, the executive and the courts tore down safeguards the legislature had put in place without getting a change in the law. For instance by allowing unattended drop boxes for ballots so there is no way to tell how the ballots got in there, and breaking the chain of custody of the ballots.

I suppose their only way out is to refuse the case and let the PA supreme court go against the US Constitution, which is what I bet they would have done in the Roberts court before RGB passed on to her final reward. Now I am not so sure. What a clusterfuck PA has created, all to drag the most openly corrupt man to ever run for President, a man who just last week introduced his grandaughter to a crowd as his dead and long buried son, a man who, like Mueller, is well past his retirement age.

There simply is no real way to know because there are too many variables (but money to spend will be enormous on both sides in any case).

But here is my guess. First consider that there are some 7.6 million registered voters in Georgia and actual votes came in just under 5.0 million - so a 90% turnout for this runoff could gin up an additional 2.0 million votes - likely coming from newly registered minorities and first time voters who gave Biden the Georgia win. I use 90% because Wisconsin achieved an 89 % vote in this mail ballot world of Covid.

Trump's strategy is always to play to his base, but Atlanta's big city politics do not coincide with his base of mostly Scots-Irish camped out in Georgia's backwoods lugging long guns and playing banjos. Trump lost the election because he only knows how to campaign using rally re-runs entitled Make America Great Again, the same as in the 2016 election. Somehow he forgets that he spent four years failing to live up to that slogan. And he didn't get Clinton thrown into jail back then and his similar demands for Biden failed as well.

So the best thing that the GOP could do (but they won't) is convince Trump that he needs more exercise on the golf course. The man gained a tremendous amount of weight and in four years as White House Occupant, and he has aged dramatically. By 2024, he will be totally demented, unfit to run again.

Before the election Donald Trump couldn't give a flying fuck whether Republicans would be elected to the Senate, so I can't imagine why he would give a flying fuck after he lost.

Yeah, Earnest Prole, he only held rallies with them in their home states.

It amazes me - Dems are dismissing dozens, perhaps hundreds, of sworn affidavits from witnesses to Democrats flagrantly breaking the law as "baseless". Because sworn testimony from Republicans doesn't count. Of course, a single false account from an extremely low level baby face staffer depicted as a "senior administration official" by the NY Times is something to topple governments over. But dozens of sworn affidavits swearing as witnesses to fraud? "Baseless! No evidence!"

This, and the social media censorship and a dozen other things going on right now,, relegates conservatives to third class citizens status. Dems say our sworn statements should not even be reviewed by courts. Only their statements can possibly be true.

adss, you think middle fingers are bad You? You want civil war? Cause this is how you get civil war.

Amusingly, Gadfly, it is downtown Atlanta that resembles a third-world shithole, and the exurb and rural areas are prosperous, with the best schools in the region. Until, as happened in Marietta, a once-nice place, the gangs and public housing people move in. Democrats despoil: conservatives move on, build and try to live in peace.

Any adult knows that.

Eddie, we need to clean house here in Georgia. Our state legislature is rotting from the head down. That's where the work needs to be done now. And if we don't get Marty-style boots on about protecting privacy and free speech, we're going to end up in camps. I've never been one to say I'm gonna duke it out over an election. But I'll do anything necessary to defend speech. And that's what Miss President-Elect Harris is planning to do: use hate crime laws as the excuse to silence opposition.

Ironic, isn't it: someone who used her mouth to rise in politics is going to use her politics to suppress our voices.

Twitter labels as "disputed" any post saying there was voter fraud. Even eyewitness testimony. Even mathematical analysis.

Twitter does not label as "disputed" any post saying the election was free and fair.

Only leftists can dispute. Anything conservatives say is automatically "disputed". Anything leftists say is pushed to the top of the search results.

There can no longer be good faith discussion. The bad faith of the leftists is effectively infinite at this point. The only reasonable, rational response that remains is: Go. Fuck. Yourselves. Tyrants.

I know the difference between rain and piss, gadfly. Even if you don't.

I hope to hell that all those unusual vote-counting computers that have been programed with software that allows them to change votes for Trump into votes for Biden have been sequestered.

I’ve got no time for people or politicians who put their fragile ego’s before the country’s best interests. Those four are useless idiots and should be voted out.

Plus you have a gang who advocates legalized theft and who believes the only truth is THEIR truth. Are these the kind of people you'd trust NOT to steal an election if they could get away with it? "The elections in Cook County will be supervised this year by Mr. Hiram Goniff, formerly with the Capone organization . . ."
