"Tasty Hoon, a popular South Korean food blogger, was shooting a mukbang video involving barbecue chicken and melted cheese."

"Mukbang videos involve the host of the video just eating things while talking into the camera. To make his fondue, Hoon put melted cheese inside a device used to make a chocolate fountain...."

Via The Indian Express which documents the "meme" status of Hoon's video.

This fellow learned that there's significant difference in the viscosity of chocolate and cheese.

Nothing like blowing the headline off of the front page.

I kept waiting for the fatal heart attack but then I remembered you don't watch videos of people dying.

You turn on the heat on the fountain first (for cheese or chocolate or anything meltable - no heat for something like ranch dressing), then you turn on the screw that lifts it up. He knew what was going to happen.

Nice haircut, Moe.

I am happy that the melted cheese and fried chicken calmed his nerves.

Don't let Kim Jon-Un and his noted cheese addiction near this contraption or recipe. On second thought . . .

Mike of Snoqualmie ayon kay ...

He also learned about the difference in heat required to melt cheese vs. chocolate.

Sometimes it works better: link.

Conclusion: the guy is an idiot. And watching him eat is off-putting. It seems like he was crying. Why?

MadisonMan ayon kay ...

I will further note that the failing guy posted his video after the successful woman. Why are we looking at failure? Is this a Biden metaphor?

When did Koreans start liking cheese? I'm so not with it sometimes...

Hindi-nagpakilala ayon kay ...

a cheesy video

gspencer ayon kay ...

Okay, I'll take a guess.

He just chomped down 5,000 calories.

Megaera ayon kay ...

His first and biggest mistake was using actual cheese. Might have gotten away with it if he'd gone with Velveeta (or Korean equivalent) but real cheese, the minute it's away from a heat source, goes into strings, stalactites, and more or less solid chunks. Chewy.

Couldn't tell whether he was laughing or crying: I'm assuming he did a dry run before shooting and knew what was going to happen, so, laughing I reckon.

Finger lickin' good!

Loved the tasteful decanting of the Coke.

So...watching a fat guy eat is somehow entertaining in Korea? I mean, I would understand if this was Ethiopia or Somalia, but Korea? Do these viewers also watch heel-crush or furry videos?

mockturtle ayon kay ...

Watched it twice and LMAO both times. A gem! :-D

I saw this earlier this morning and don't think I've laughed this hard in a long time. I love the sheer surprise he has that it doesn't go as planned, and the perseverance to still eat while sticking globs of congealed cheese onto his chicken.

My first thought......is that Chris, or Pat?

I wonder what the Korean equivalents might be.

I could watch hours and hours of that. Fascinating stuff, and I mean stuff.

"Tasty Hoon's Mukbang Video" and "Tasty Hoon Just Eating Things While Talking Into The Phone" sound like pornos.

The hero's journey. You've got to admire his focus and determination. A lot of people would have been discouraged by early setbacks, but he was as persistent as Hillary. Although he didn't finish everything in front of him, he did completely finish each separate piece of chicken. It would have been so much easier to just eat the meaty part and then go on to the next piece, but, no, he ate everything on each piece. He was not wasteful in his consumption habits. I think just watching him makes us all better fried chicken eaters. What's more, he didn't do it for commercial consideration from KFC but for pure love of the sport. He's probably not destined to live a long life, but we live in a better world because of men like him.

LA_Bob ayon kay ...

This was the mukbang video equivalent of listening to Joe Biden speak.

I love the opportunities the internet brings. This kid (I think, hard to tell his age.) is probably making more money with his videos than many of us who work for a living.

More power to him! Way to go.

More than 1.5 million views

That can be worth anywhere from $450 to $3,000.

Do a couple a week and you can make a nice living.

The woman that Madison Man linked, Nada, seems to do about 2 a week and has anywhere from half a million to 2 million views on each one. With a couple in the 10-15 million range.

Add some side hustles with food and restaurant and kitchen supply and other companies and she is doing really, really well. Perhaps well enough to be in the top 1-2% of US incomes.

Some people laugh at these folks. I don't. I'm jealous.

It was probably congealed mayo.

There is a shocking moment at about 2 minutes in, when the chubby baby-man shows his chubby baby hands, and there was a wedding ring. I was not expecting that.

Thanks for sharing. Not.

Asians continue, without notable success, attempting to integrate Western Culture into their societies.

With the exception of music, of course. They throw off countless great performers who work here, and seem to have a domestic audience for Western music as well.

Which pop culture is more weird, Japan's or Korea's? Discuss.
