"Mitch McConnell says he has no health concerns after photos show bruising/Questions raised about pictures showing severe bruising on his hands and some around his mouth."

The Guardian reports (with a photograph showing lots of purple).
Asked on Thursday if “there anything going on we should know about?”, the Kentucky Republican said: “Of course not.” McConnell answered a follow-up question by saying he had no concerns, and did not answer a question about whether he was seeing a doctor....

My 104-year-old uncle takes Plavix. He always has bruised hands.

The lips??? I dunno.

But Biden can call a 5 day lid on his campaign and not be asked a single question about it.

I thought he must using Efudex (or a similar cancer killing ointment) to find small areas of skin cancer. If it starts looking worse, not better, that's what it is.

My first thought too.

It's almost certainly a blood-thinner side-effect. Either that or he got into it with the same mobster as Harry Reid.

People are thinking medical issues and my first thought was dominatrix?.

Maybe "Billions" had more of an impact on me than I realized.

Did Harry Reid show up at Mitch’s office?

My cardiologist was pushing a blood thinner on me, but then I met a friend wearing a short sleeve shirt —unusual for him — and his arms were covered in vivid purple bruises. Turns out that the bruises were due to the same medication my cardiologist was pushing. No thanks, doctor! I don’t want people to think the wife throws lamps at me like Hillary does to Bill.

My friend did pass away due to a heart attack.

It does look like a fall.

That kind of ecchymosis (bruising), notwithstanding a few relatively unusual diseases, is most often due to:
1) trauma or,
2) use of anti-coagulant medications or,
3) blood dyscrasias (diseases of the various blood components - platelets, white cells, etc) - most of which are not good diseases to have.
In addition, elderly people bruise more easily from minor things simply because of increased skin and superficial vascular fragility. This cause does not usually cause that degree of bruising, however.

The ecchymoses on his hands would not be surprising in an elderly person, especially one on anticoags, who had somehow banged his hands.

I think the tell here is the location of the facial bruises on the prominent points of his face - chin, lips, tip of nose, and most especially, his upper nose under the cross piece of his specs. That last one is highly suggestive of the glasses being jammed against his nose, and all that together says face plant. Together with the hand pattern, which would be consistent with a protective arm reaction, I think the smart money bets on Old Guy Falling.

This is a close runner up to Kevin's comment for thread winner. The double standard has never been more obvious.

For what it is worth- I was one of the voters who put McConnell in the Senate in his first run. It was my first time voting in 1984. I was probably the only student at Transylvania that voted for him.

Sheridan said...

If McConnell wins reelection but then goes down due to health issues then the Democrat governor would appoint his replacement. That person would serve the remainder of McConnell's term. I'm sure the Dems are praying for Mitch and hoping that doesn't happen! /s

I'm 72. I bruise like that all the time. I bruise making the bed! I bruise so often I usually don't even know what caused the bruises. Big, ugly bruises. My dad had the same kind of skin. So McConnell could have the same kind of skin

Don't know about the face, but I get bruises like the ones on his hands all the time. In fact, I can't remember the last time I didn't have one somewhere on my arm(s). They're nasty-looking, deep red/purple but they don't hurt at all and I rarely know what caused them. It's pretty much been a constant for the past 15 or 20 years.

Michael K said...

Plavix will do that to hands. He looks like a swollen lip and cheek and that might be a fall.

Late as usual, and more expert people have spoken, but FWIW I say face-plant too. My Oma
tripped on some steps at about age 85 and for about six months her face looked like she'd been sparring with Ali.

With blood thinners etc it has to be worse.

When we first married I was stationed on a fast attack (SSN). I would get home and she would ask “How did you get that bruise?” and didn’t really believe me when I answered “I don’t know.” Almost 2 months into our marriage she came down to the boat on my duty day and had a fine Navy dinner and toured the sub. She never again asked about random bruises. They happen.

As for McConnell I’d go with blood thinners and a mild mishap.

A fall is not a "health problem." I happens to people, especially older people whose reflexes are not as good as they once were.

A blood test on Biden during the debate would be enlightening.

I guarantee he was hopped up on stimulants any doctor would be jailed for decades giving to a dementia patient.

People like you know Biden is being mistreated by everyone around him. This includes people that are voting for him.

At this point you are contributing to this abuse.

You are a terrible person.

Achilles said...

Biden hides for 5 days.

Comes out and has 45-50 minutes of lucidity.

Fades badly towards the end of the debate and forgets things he has said repeatedly in the last 6 months.

He was obviously on drugs and any person who had a shred of decency would object to what is happening to Joe Biden.

That being said Joe Biden is a traitor and traitors hang.

The entire democrat party including the voters are completely amoral shitheads at this point.

@Yancey Ward: If you’re from Transylvania you probably know a fair bit about blood thinners. ;)

The back of my hands looked like that when I started taking aspirin as they recommend to thin the blood for older people. I stopped taking aspirin and it went away. I'm going for a fall, and then, following a recommendation, and taking taking aspirin or a blood thinner.

Remember when Harry Reid took his "fall" while exercising? Yeah, that was an unexplained beating for old Harry. The current Senate leader's bruising was probably just a side effect of sleeping in a wrong position, while being aged.
