"In a music video for the song 'EDD' that was posted to YouTube on Sept. 11, Mr. Baines and another rapper, Fat Wizza, boasted about getting 'rich off of E.D.D.'..."

"... an apparent reference to the Employment Development Department. The rappers brag in the video about their 'swagger for E.D.D.' while holding stacks of E.D.D. envelopes, and about getting rich by going 'to the bank with a stack of these.' A disclaimer below the video says that it was made with props 'for entertainment purposes.' It is not clear when the disclaimer was added."

Criminals these days are smart enough to realize that even if caught, they'll do no time whatsoever.

Another aspiring rapper's career tragically cut short ...

EDD is a state program. No need to Trumpify everything. Trump's Justice Department bagged the guy for scamming the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act. Blame Brown and Newsom for letting him get away with it before.

"Rapper Arrested After Bragging About Unemployment Fraud in Video/Fontrell Antonio Baines, who performs as Nuke Bizzle, illegally obtained $1.2 million in jobless benefits intended for workers idled by the coronavirus pandemic, the authorities said" (NYT).

In his defense, he wasn't the only guy with his bizzle in the trough.

Everybody else was wetting their bizzle too.

This is just a tiny tiny tip of the iceberg of theft with government handouts. It's a major industry in this country with networks of people who do it their whole life and pass it on to their friends and family. Nobody is easier to rob than Uncle Sam. He's like a rich guy passed out in the park with money falling out of his pockets.

“I looked at them and said: I’m leaving in six hours. If the prosecutor is not fired, you’re not getting the money,” Biden recalled in remarks at an event hosted in January 2018 by the Council on Foreign Relations. “Well, son of a bitch. He got fired.”

Then I take it he’s a Trump supporter.
Because it’s common knowledge only rich ones received covid relief.

Extra points for 'Nuke Bizzle.'

"Another successful Trump program."

Every program is susceptible to fraud. Would you prefer that there was zero stimulus?

How about we cut off all social security payments because of fraud? Medical benefits?

My solution is death penalty upon conviction...maybe we can meet in the middle...

Why does it always seem to surprise liberals, including Althouse, that government programs are often abused by people who scam the system either by gaming the regulations and/or fraudulently scamming it. If you had more savvy about the DC Swamp you would understand that this is a FEATURE, and emphatically not a bug. Sooner or later the amount of fraud and abuse becomes too much to ignore, and that leads to (1) more work, supporting the inevitable blue ribbon commission; (2) more work revamping the old regulations and promulgating new and amended regulations; and (3) more work, because paperwork inevitably goes up and bureaucrats must review that paperwork. More work in a bureaucracy means more people to supervise and thus justification for promotions. And that’s how it works.

The EDD issue is a complete scandal. People who legitimately filed for benefits were faced with the failure of 40 year old computer equipment running COBOL, and only a limited live phone support staff that knew nothing and never answered the phones. Meanwhile, prisoners at San Quentin were getting multiple checks made out to them (the cons used their aliases) or jokers like this who knew someone who worked for the state and rigged the system. My hairdresser finally gave up trying to take advantage of the funds and toughed it out until she could start seeing clients on the sly.
