"I was just sitting there, and I'm like, 'OK, I'm not gonna sit here and wait for nobody to pull some jumper cables... I'm not gonna flag anyone down.'"

"'So I grab my [Ocean Spray cran-raspberry] juice, grab my longboard, started heading to work," Nathan Apodaca told NPR.
The story could have ended there. As many know by now, it didn't. As Apodaca rolled down a hill, he casually turned on his TikTok account, @420doggface208, and created a video that would make a cultural sensation of his fairly prosaic, if resourceful, commute to work. "When I heard 'Dreams,' that's when I figured, 'OK, this is it,' " said Apodaca, a 37-year-old father of two. After the video took off, that 1977 hit single, "Dreams" by Fleetwood Mac, catapulted back on the charts, tripling in sales. The band also reported its best week ever on streaming.... In its first hour on TikTok, the video gathered some 100,000 views. It now has more than 35 million. It has been crowned with meme status. According to figures from TikTok, 134,000 tribute videos have been made, inspired by Apodaca, totaling almost a half-billion views. The lieutenant governor of Montana, Mike Cooney, did a tribute, as did comedian Jimmy Fallon — and endless others....

From "TikTok Sensation: Meet The Idaho Potato Worker Who Sent Fleetwood Mac Sales Soaring."

NPR applies its genteel seriousness to analyze the instantly, easily likable clip. It's got to mean something. Apodaca offers his idea: "There's just too much chaos right now. Everybody just needed something to relax to and vibe out with." Well, he's right!

Extra fact: Ocean Spray bought him a new truck. Oh! The free advertising it got! A new truck, cranberry colored and loaded with cranberry juice. Yet surely his promotion of the drink is worth millions.

And, Mick Fleetwood expresses thanks:

It was enough to get me on tiktok. What a hoot! Like a video twitter. To think Trump almost got it banned the week before!

So, china must have the goods on me now?

Mojo magazine a few years ago had a spread on Fleetwood Mac. Dreams was determined to be their very best track from @50 years of activity. It is a flawless pop tune.

It’s an Ocean Spray commercial. Geez you guys are dumb.

YoungHegelian म्हणाले...

A goodly part of the charm is having a guy who looks like Apodaca mouthing the words as sung by Stevie Nicks. Big cognitive dissonance there.

I think it's foolish to try to determine what becomes viral and what does not. Ergo I think NPR is foolish here.

Why does the democrat from Montana feel the need to jump in?

All of it is cool until Some politician attempts to steal the glory. Leave it to a democratic to ruin the moment.

Who shot the video ? Looks like a setup.

India banned TikTok and dozens of other Chinese apps. India lives right across the mountains from China, and China is nibbling at India's northern border, hankering after all that nice subcontinental lowland farming and manufacturing and high tech. The only question is, will the Chinese conquer India, or just kill all the Indians and resettle the place with Han Chinese?

I liked the viral video of the guy rolling to work.

I like the video of Yoda singing Yoda singing "Rocking and Rolling" even better. Ephemera is life!

I like the video a lot. Cracks me up his tiktok name starts with 420. That is indeed his vibe.

Second hand news for me since I didn't see this before. I guess I'll go my own way and say the original is nice but not particularly viral worthy. No doubt this opinion would go down in a landslide vote against. Oh, well.

Fleetwood mac should toss some $$$ in that guy's direction - as a thank you.

My favourite part of the story is that he abandons the truck on the side of the road; being on time to work is more important. He doesn't seem upset by the situation, just another way to get to work.

Everything is viral now.

Sad to hear that many younger folks aren’t familiar with Rumours. They’re in for a treat if they can stay focused long enough to actually listen to the whole thing. Even better if they can listen to it with a good set of speakers. It’s long been praised for the quality of the production and mixing as well as the vocal harmonies.

I see it was remastered and reissued in 2018 with Silver Springs. Another fine work.

Go figure, it was fun to watch, it was a moment. I liked it. Who wouldn’t? George Armstrong Custer maybe.

"There's just too much chaos right now. Everybody just needed something to relax to and vibe out with." Well, he's right!

Of coarse he is right but right in the same way as someone who yells fire in a large crowded theater and then comments on how difficult is was to get out with everyone stampeding. Well YOU are part of the group that started this, working 24/7 to try and keep everyone panicked and in chaos at 11enty. So sure, everyone just needs something to relax to.

I recently watched the series "Mad Men" and the energy of this iconic tiktok hero reminded me of the show's finale and the Coke commercial. Also iconic. Discussed at 'Mad Men' Finale: The Story Behind the Coke Ad

The silly tiktok video was china propaganda. The dude doesn't look American... has anyone checked his papers? This happy-go-lucky story was no where near as inspiring as the mask ripoff and 90-second salute from our Commode in Chief.

wildswan म्हणाले...

It's not a kind of sequence you see very often in public media, I'm going to say I never have, but I recognize it at once. Checking like an adult to see if you're going to get mashed and proceeding on to exhilaration.

donald म्हणाले...

Why doesn’t he look American you hateful bigot?

ORWoody म्हणाले...

Tim nailed it. I saw that awhile back and didn't know the background. Getting to work on time and obviously not feeling abused by life. Nathan is my kind of fellow American, but a dang sight better on the board than I ever was. May his life be filled with joy.
