"Harvest Moon Morning."

That's the title of today's audio version of the blog — which you can play here — or subscribe to in various places, including iTunes, where it is up right now. The audio version includes all the text of the blog thus far this morning, plus quite a bit of added commentary, and is only about 25 minutes long. I will update the same episode when there are additional posts.

Did a moonrise swim on the pond last night. Water 67F, air 55F, CAVU. It's like swimming in ink. Very primal. The triathlete wetsuit is a dream. Xterra Outlet $80 for a return/discontinued $350-retail full suit.

I don't listen to many podcasts. In fact, I think that the only podcasts I am subscribed to now have to do with track and field. I was pleasantly surprised that yours popped right up on the Podcasts app of my iPhone when I searched. This will be handy when I am walking, but not running. I have found that I can generally pay attention to the spoken word when walking but not when running. If you start singing the podcasts, I will listen when running.

Not sure how updating an existing recording to include new posts works, logistically. If I've listened to the version from 7am do I need to re-download and fast forward through the 830am version to hear the new stuff? Seems easier to have multiple 5-10 minute podcasts published each day. That would seem to also increase your download numbers, and would make it easier for your audience to check out the podcast for a particular post of interest where they might not be interested in a whole episode about all the posts.

@Chanie You may be right about that. It would be easier to do. But doesn't it seem nutty to have multiple podcasts in one day?

I don't want to wait for the whole day to accumulate, because I want the new posts, the main posts of the day, the early morning posts, to be there for someone who goes out to exercise or work in the yard in the late morning. That is, this is a podcast for my dear husband, and everyone else is eavesdropping.

How the Hell did this get published in the NYT?

I don't think so. It's a fluid medium. Tailor it to your needs. Some are daily or weekly, some are ever M/W/F or x-times per week, etc. Others just seem to adhere to no schedule at all (if Radio Lab is purporting to follow a schedule I haven't been able to figure it out).

But it's not unheard of to have multiple posts per date. NPR News Now is a 5-minute news update podcast that is posted hourly. BBC Minute is a one-minute update posted every 30 minutes. Today at the Ringer often posts multiple per day, though those are highlights from different shows on their platform.

Bottom line, I wouldn't get hung up on convention because there isn't one. Given the purpose (for Meade) you ought to do what is easiest for you as producer and him as audience. It might require playing with a naming convention to make sure they show up in the order you want, but multiple short pods posted sounds perfectly reasonable to me.

One advantage to "multiple short pods" is that those of us who will never listen to 40 or 50 minutes of audio might well listen to ten.

Swimming in a wetsuit is like fucking in a condom, it may be necessary, but it's hardly desirable, and probably you should be asking yourself if it's really necessary.

Anyhoo surely a big strong mans like you needs no such apparatus. I wonder if you wear a surgical mask in the water, to build up your whatever.

Better to have multiple podcasts.
