"wow, I’m very sorry this happened but I hope this serves an educational function - I’ve never seen someone have a stroke before..."

According to the NYT, "It was not immediately clear if Mr. Paul had experienced a stroke. Representatives for Mr. Paul and his son Senator Rand Paul, Republican of Kentucky, did not immediately respond to messages seeking information about his condition on Friday."

Sure looks like a stroke, or at least a TIA (transient ischemic attack, AKA mini-stroke). Hopefully a TIA, as those are much less trouble. Source: 25+ years in nursing.

Objection. Relevance.

Dr. Paul is in my prayers. Hope he recovers fully.

Well, I guess she's right about it being helpful to know what this looks like - but wouldn't anyone assume someone who starts speaking in gibberish is having a medical emergency and call for help?

I saw one of the index registers in a Honeywell 635 break and it crashed the whole machine. You couldn't even boot it.

Man... for a minute there I thought he'd switched over to the Democrat Party, as I couldn't understand what he was trying to say.

Hope he's doing okay.

TIAs are usually over in a minute or less. The is a thing called "Reversible Ischemic Neurological deficit that lasts longer and still leaves no permanent deficit. He seemed recovered later in hospital.

I had a TIA 3 years ago. It was kind of like that. I was thinking clearly but I could talk and babble came out. As my lovely wife said, it usually is the other way around for me.

No long term damage for me.

If it was a TIA, it was big. very big

Not that it is any of the NYT's business to go chomping at the family right away for "news".

I have mixed feelings about this being tweeted out. In a way it will be good because we'll get to see how totally classless they left is, but I hate it for the Paul family. They shouldn't have to deal with this shit at a time like this.

That's a stroke. I'm sure he was rushed immediately for care. It's a 4 hour window. God bless him, I think he'll recover.

Paul sent out a tweet that showed him in the hospital and alert, so not life-threatening. I don't know if the speech problems have cleared, though.

And, yes, this is what they look like fairly often.

There was definitely aphasia, which indicates a stroke.

I've never seen a stroke in real time until now. I have seen an epileptic seizure in real time. Neither is pretty. I hope Ron Paul is all right.

Dick Cavett said someone had a heart attack during taping of a show. That tape was never aired.

Are you going to follow the lead of the MSM and pretend that those FBI e-mails disclosed by Sydney Powell in the Flynn case are no big deal?

No post on this?

C'mon, Man! At the very least it's a bombshell.

Or perhaps I am mistaken, and highly credible evidence of what is at a minimum unprecedented lawlessness, and on it's face a massive coverup, and upon reasonable assessment nothing short of treason, involving the ex-President, ex-Vice-President (and presidential nominee), the head of the CIA, the head of the FBI (and his replacement), and the DOJ is not newsworthy. Ho hum.

boatbuilder said...

Maybe the wrong thread--I hope Ron is OK. But it seems like this is what the current Democratic presidential nominee would call a "Big Fucking Deal."

Dick Shawn had a fatal heart attack during a taping. I think Redd Foxx did too.

For some reason, right now, we have a gerontocracy. Great for accumulated wisdom, not so great for physical and mental risk.

Yancey Ward said...

Of course, Biden does this all the time without a stroke.

Dick Shawn's was during a stand up appearance, it took a few minutes before the audience figured out it wasn't part of his act.

I had an honest to goodness real stroke about 2 years ago. Luckily it was incredibly small. The neurologist thought it was a TIA until they found a tiny pin point bit of damage in my brain on the CAT scan. I didn't have any aphasia, but lost the use of my right arm for a couple of days. It did come back, though.

I watched my father have a hemorrhagic stroke in 2014. It didn't affect his speech, and I couldn't tell what had happened until he told me he was having trouble with his vision. The CT at the ER showed the bleed, and he was admitted for observation for 3 days. His vision returned to normal after the 1st day and the bleed had shrank by the time he was discharged.

There are other videos out there of people having strokes- aphasia is one of the most common signs.

Index register? Break?

Was this EMP hardness testing?.....and why were you in the same room??

When George Bush the Elder vomited at the Japanese dinner, the MSM showed the clip at least 50 gazillion times. They revel in anything showing a Republican in an embarrassing light. I agree with North that the clip should not have been shown. If I had a stroke I certainly wouldn't want a video of the event plastered all over the internet.

He was in the room to break the index register. With a hammer.

Not just the slurring but the pronounced asymmetrical downturn of one side of his mouth. That, at least, had cleared up by the time they took the pic in the hospital.

God give him a speedy and complete recovery.

I had one three weeks ago coupled with diabetic shock and kidney failure. I sort of flapped about on the floor for a while before passing out. I was able to call for help and was taken to the General Hospital in Essaouira, Morocco. Brain scan showed no structural damage although I spent nearly a week in the diabetes ward receiving insulin to stabilize my kidneys.

What I found fascinating is that my awareness became somewhat fragmented if not shattered. I could read text messages with letters but could not process the numbers with the text. Parts of my language acquisition simply would not function: to access French, for example, I had to start English and then would speak French.

All I can say about these things is that they are like freight trains that run about your head leaving you very helpless although, sometimes, alert to the process. Watching that happen in this video brings tears to my eyes. My heart goes out to him and his family.
