This is what it's like...

ADDED: It's like a Jules Feiffer cartoon come to life.

ALSO: I'm reminded of the point in the 2011 Wisconsin protests when it seemed as though things had turned into "some sort of glamour protest."

Ah, the Old Dance of the Zombies. That should do it.

That first one is dancing in "black eye".

The kid is very cute, but so is the old man with the beard.

Personal agendas come first.

Pretty much.

"This is what it's like watching academics try to cure racism."

By showing that people of all background are equally ridiculous?

But such color-blind realism is itself racist.

It has been ever so: “One sometimes gets the impression that the mere words ‘Socialism’ and ‘Communism’ draw towards them with magnetic force every fruit-juice drinker, nudist, sandal-wearer, sex-maniac, Quaker, ‘Nature Cure’ quack, pacifist, and feminist in England.” ---Orwell

Fernandinande বলেছেন...

People will stop asking you questions if you answer back in interpretive dance

Drago বলেছেন...

Ah yes, we have much to learn from these academics........

Jay Vogt বলেছেন...

I haven't read her in while because I stopped getting the The New Yorker about a year ago, but Joan Acocella was (and probably still is) a great writer about dance. I always thought that was an odd thing to specialize your writing in, and I don't have much interest in the topic, but she drew me in. Now, with you Althouse, I'm reading about dance again.

Gee. Do you think they have Mommy and Daddy issues?

The black kid has decided maybe whites aren't so smart after all.

Whatever you say বলেছেন...

I love the look on that kid's face. He knows those people are crazy and aren't doing a damn thing to help him. It feels like it's the same phenomenon as the people who speak in tongues while in church. Some kind of spirit empowers them, but I doubt it is Holy.

Birkel বলেছেন...

The system in which so many academics move - Critical Theory - is a closed system.
The system is purposefully impenetrable.
The system offers no answers.

In such a system, this dancing will be just as useful as anything.

I like the music. Anybody know what it is?

All those Feminist Dance Therapy graduates gotta dance! The power of education on display.

Garbage in, garbage out.

I used to believe in reasoned debate. Now I am embracing reasoned snark.

How embarrassing. That little boy's expression said it all.

Well, whatever their cause, I'm convinced.

Where do I sign up? Do I get a signet ring?

You should read The Newneo....She writes commentary, and was a ballet dancer...some of her articles are about dancers and dances she loves. https://www.thenewneo.com/

Academics, sure, but which one was the astrophysicist?

JAORE বলেছেন...

Academics rarely "cure" anything. The never build anything. Instead they lecture those that cure and build about how we are doing it wrong.

Were that foolish dance was the only weapon they used.

i lived in Ames Iowa, from 1982 until 2018.
I can state with authority; That the losers that live in college towns are PATHETIC losers

Seriously, ANYONE that lives (or lived) in a college town for more than 6 years is a joke!

Big Mike বলেছেন...

Watched the video. White folks don't have rhythm.

@gilbar?

All those Feminist Dance Therapy graduates gotta dance! The power of education on display.

And they want construction workers, grocery store clerks, mechanics, truck drivers and other people scraping by to pay off their student loans.

Fuck 'em.

tcrosse বলেছেন...

At least they can't be accused of Cultural Appropriation.

Jaq বলেছেন...

These are the people that should be running our country, for sure.

White folks don't have rhythm.

Differently rhythmed I think is the proper expression these days.

tim maguire বলেছেন...

I had a lot more patience for the left back when they had fun. That’s the worst part of this dancing—it’s completely joyless, just like the movement that spawns it.

Bob Boyd বলেছেন...

White folk be cra.

Yancey Ward বলেছেন...

Well, the first comment beat me to my initial reaction, that I was watching a George Romero film sped up a bit.

FWBuff বলেছেন...

The little boy’s face! He is the honest child in “The Emperor’s New Clothes”.

And Wince wins the thread with the perfect allusion.

compare leftists to The Shakers
both groups were Very Full of Themselves, neither group will leave any progeny;
one group through celibacy; the other through child sacrifice

on the other hand....
The Shakers made nice furniture; can anyone point out ANYTHING (good) the left has made?

gilbar বলেছেন...

Narr pointed out my snarkiness, when he said...
You're a joke? (Ames for let's see, 36 years?)

i'm using the 'takes on to know one' axiom

Oh, sure, laugh if you want, but those goofy men are gonna get some crazy pussy later. I guarantee it.

Steve M. Galbraith বলেছেন...

John McWhorter often makes the point that these protests today are simply theater acts, people pretending to fight injustice or whatever the hell they think they are fighting.
He points out that when King was protesting during the day that at night he would be on the phone with LBJ working out strategies to get legislation passed. Or he and other civil rights leaders would to go Washington to meet with Congressman to get the Voting Rights and other civil rights laws enacted. It wasn't theater to them.

Ingachuck'stoothlessARM বলেছেন...

they would dance better and have more effect

The diversity divergence. Be wary of people with ostensibly good intentions who deny individual dignity, deny individual conscience, normalize color quotas, color blocs, and affirmative discrimination, not limited to racism, sexism.

What do you call those scare-crow like blower-powered dancers used to advertise a business in a strip mall? I was hoping somebody would reference them in a comment. But I didn't see it mentioned.

These dancers seemed to be deliberately trying to imitate one.

charis বলেছেন...

That bewildered boy looking on is priceless. Also, it's nice that Walt Whitman showed up as one of the dancers.
