If anyone is interested in driving a Fall color tour in central Michigan, this might be the prime weekend for it. The leaves seem to be especially brilliant this year, and the days have been a luscious 70+ and sunny. Take U.S. 10 west from Clare, then head south on 180th Road to Hersey. (No masks required in Real Michigan... sorry Gretchen)
Today I drove to Hersey to check out a bookcase that was on Marketplace. Alas, it didn't quite fit into my Forester. But I handed over my cash to complete strangers, and believed their promise to deliver later in the day. They did. Faith affirmed.

I watched Enola Holmes. It's a movie on Netflix about Sherlock Holmes' kid sister. It's target audience is twelve year old girls, and it was my own fault for watching it. It had a good cast but a plot that barely made sense with plot points subordinated to political correctness. Still, I found it more entertaining than annoying, and I watched the whole thing.....It's now become an accepted part of our culture that young women--she's only sixteen--with the proper background in the martial arts can readily defeat burly men. Who knew that even back in Victorian times women studied jujitsu and could readily defeat hired assassins. The things you learn when you watch Netflix.

@madAsHell, @Meade, a good choice, but if the young lady is new to guns I prefer a revolver in .38 Special (SPC). Actually, I prefer it in .357 magnum, and shoot .38 special out of it until comfortable and then step up to .38 special +P and from there to .357 only if you can handle the recoil. A lightweight .38 snubby can be easily carried in a purse once she gets her concealed carry permit, and Smith & Wesson's "Ladysmith" is quite light (21 ounces).

On sunrise or sunset, have you ever seen the "Green flash"? It is very rare. I've watched often but have yet to catch sight of it.

This reinforces my suspicion that I turned the light down too much. I adjust the light to get better detail, nearly always turning it down, but it can make the color too dramatic... and here I was calling it "delicate." Something not quite accurate about that!

You are correct. And I hope they do it—fix the court at nine 18-year terms, staggered so that a new justice is confirmed every 2 years. Every presidential term includes 2 appointments.
That will go a long way towards taking the rancorous politics out of the process.

If and when the Covid restrictions are removed I think a great many people will transition back to a sort of normal, let's get along manner of being. The riots may continue to some extent, protests for sure, and the most partisan Democrats will continue to whine and complain. The rest of us will easily ignore them and that. A Sig Sauer P365 is the current de rigeur small 9mm and for good reason- it's a great gun. If you can find one and your daughter can't 'handle' it, maybe seek out some specialized instruction. Sig, for example does a great job with everyone. They have women's only classes and I've seen them work great with the elderly and disabled. I'm confident they could get her shooting well, but seek out help if she needs it...

The problem for new shooters of semiautomatics is the need to keep the wrist locked. If the gun rocks back in your hand, this is “limp wristing’,” and it can cause jams. Revolvers are not prone to jams — if it doesn’t go BANG just squeeze trigger again. But revolvers have fewer rounds and are slower to reload.

I've been something of an amateur astronomer since I was a boy. I've tried hundreds of times to see the green flash, without success.

My hunting buddy and I had 16 gauge shotguns because 16 gauge ammo was always on sale after the season. In those days price mattered a lot to us.
I think the green flash can only be seen on water, like from a boat. That is the only time I have seen it.

Funny! I saw my daughter struggle with the Glock 26, and went to rent a .22LR semi-auto. The guy behind the rental counter heard my story, and directed me to the same S&W firearm, but in 9mm. The struggles were over.
It's affordably priced as well when available.
