"I was starting on this year's Halloween projects and kept seeing 'Karen' pop up in my news feed and thought, 'Damn this is the real monster of 2020.'"

Said Jason Adcock, quoted in "A Los Angeles artist is selling $180 'Karen' Halloween masks, calling them 'the real monsters of 2020'" (Business Insider).

I better not see any black people wearing a Karen mask.

Shouldn't she be wearing a mask over her mouth only, nose out so she can breathe?

Looking forward to Sexy-Karen costumes.

One of my favorite youtubers is The Wooded Beardsman (outdoorsy Canadian dude that eats tons of crazy stuff and is generally all that is man).

Most recent vid is him and his buddy - a frequent cameo on the channel - salmon fishing in 'Crown' waters in Ontario ('Crown' is their equivalent of public land...man am I glad we don't have 'crown' anything in this country). Basically they did their homework on the laws and regulations allowing them to do an end-run around the township rules that basically closed off access to the river. Closed off access to the river...because of COVID.

The point. They were hundreds if not thousands of feet from anyone. In waders. In a river, and canoed to the spot too-boot. But Karens (undoubtedly women...no doubt whatsoever) in the apartments overlooking these men enjoying nature and having fun called the cops on them not once, but several times. Reporters even showed up to document these men doing what was in every way legal and in no way unethical. But....they were having fun and Karen can't have that. Regardless of following the letter of the law if not the spirit, Karen knows that somewhere, somebody is having fun, and she can't have that.

When the box of wine is empty, and fluffy just ain't cutting it, bored out of her wits, and jonesing for a hit-o-dopamine that hours of social media just can't provide after a long day on tiktok, someone fishing just can't be tolerated. How dare they.

Karen is the stuff of nightmare fuel, and that was long before 2020.

Now do Shaniqua and see how that goes over.

A Karen mask.

That's like multiple levels of satiric irony or something.

Someone that regularly comments here is bound to make that picture their avatar.

Karens are a point source, not mass and progressive spreaders of social contagion.

Now that's triggering.

But I hope they make a ton of money.

Capitalism. Is there anything it can't do?

Don't bring up boxed wine here, or Althouse will look like the mask.

For $180 I want that mask to be a more accurate representation of Hillary. Since I'm 6' 5" and built like an aging and overweight linebacker, maybe I could do the transgender costume bit with the accurate Hillary mask for a Halloween party (f in these days of social distancing there was such a thing as a Halloween party.)

stevew said...

Compared to the Karens I've encountered that seems a bit harsh, but I suppose you have to embody the personality into the look of the mask.

And they want to get rid of capitalism?

I pictured the typical "Karen" being more fastidious about her appearance and hygiene.

This basic capitalism, which is something BLM, being a Marxist organization is against. If, the totalitarian left has its way, this won’t be a latex mask, it will be a genuine human skin mask, ala, Ed Gein.

I was JUST thinking, that looks like Howie in casual makeup, eight beers in, watching his Feral Diverses lose again.

My Home Depot, which I am forced to enter about 2x per day for my business, had turned on their high-volume Halloween display creatures on September 09. Without asking, without hesitation, I walked through the display turning the power off to the giant evil clown, the giant evil skeleton, the giant evil zombie. A peqceful quiet descended where there had been electronic shrieks. Then I went to shop for my stuff.

I will continue to do this. And I have planned my construction projects to avoid their October 15 start of their Christmas season.

Karens come in all shapes, sizes, races, genders, transgenders, ethnicities, ages, creeds (esp. Apollo) and religions. And many have nice teeth. How unwoke to choose a crazed white woman with blue eyes and cro-magnon chops.

It must feel horrible to be so afraid of wearing a simple surgical mask in certain situations during a pandemic that this is what rises up out of your subconscious. Maybe I will stop picking on you guys. It’s like the time I started to argue with a 911 “troofer” and then realized that he was, umm... what’s the politically correct term? I am not sure. I felt bad after.

Mad Dog 2020.

Remember that shit from high school?

But like I have been saying all along, it looks like the virus was brewed up on a CRISPR machine. I remember being told I was full of shit by people here whom I otherwise respect.

What was the last big meme or cultural fad that was a pejorative aimed at White women? Would it be the Valley Girl thing from the 90's and early 2000's? Other than Karen I can't really think of any major one after the Valley Girl thing. I think Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie tried to capitalize off that. Though I doubt either of them have ever lived in the California Valley.

No one is afraid of wearing a mask, tim in vermont (didn't you decamp to FL?), some of us just realize doing so is pointless virtue signaling.

I remember Mad Dog 2020, there are few hangovers worse than the one you get from drinking that stuff. Tango was pretty bad. Boone's Farm Strawberry Hill was too.

Really...? You really don't know a "Karen" is a tone-deaf, liberal white woman who enjoys pushing her leftist agenda on conservatives? It's the original meaning (and please don't be so dense as to Google it). Because the Left no longer allows original thought they need to resort to stealing conservative memes. Funny - another example of the Left's implosion.

It's funny to see Tim continue to project his own fears with lefty-esque word play. Yes, Tim...it's just like 911 truthers! Waca waca.
But really, the lovely lady in the post's cartoon looks like a growed up Greta.

"some of us just realize doing so is pointless virtue signaling.”

So you have reviewed the medical literature, and come to the conclusion that your own opinion on the matter invalidates the opinion of those doing the actual research? Kind of sounds like the same tack that the troofers took to me. But clearly this is a matter of deep emotion with you guys.

I know math is hard, and it’s hard to understand the statistical reasoning behind taking even small steps that reduce the infectious reach of the virus if you don’t understand statistics. But your self confidence in light of your own ignorance is what tells me that you are coming from some place of emotion or probably displaced fear. Look at that image. Is that an image that somebody making a rational decision based on the evidence would cook up? Nope. It comes from a place of fear.

Jaq said...

I guess the bottom line is that I can’t reason you guys out of an opinion that you didn’t reason yourself into.

Kind of similar to Nazi anti-Jewish propaganda. I am sure that doesn’t bother anybody here though, right?

stevew said...

Timmy boy, I'm not afraid of wearing a mask, I wear one when required despite my understanding that doing so is pointless. I've read quite a lot about the mask wearing regime. They are recommended to protect others from me based on the precautionary principle. If the mask wearing is effective it is said to be only in situations of close physical proximity and contact. I am almost never in those situations with anyone other than my wife and family. If anyone is afraid and irrational on this topic it would appear to be you, based on your comments here over the past six months. Fear not though, you and I are very, very unlikely to ever be in the same place. And I don't have the virus.

Imagine if stores stocked angry black woman masks. Would they be directly looted, destroyed by the media, or sued for discrimination? Would Amazon carry them? Would paypal accept payments for them?

I have a graphic artist friend who made Che Guevara shirts mocking socialism. Guevara's estate threatened to sue him for copyright infringement, which is hilarious. Then again, he's been deplatformed by social media sites, artificially disappeared on search engines, and dumped from most online payment services.

For satire.
