When push comes to shove, when is it best to feel the big guy upstairs? IOW, which situation ranks first, and which is second? Situation 1 = being in places such as what’s shown re these pix v situation 2 = when a person is doing official governing/judging?

Based on genuine devotion this is an easy call, situation 2 is in first place by a mile. Ideologically driven folks are cool.

A large mob of #antifa & far-left activists mobilized to shut down a rumored Proud Boys rally in Philadelphia that never materialized — so they fought independent media instead. This is also what happened in February in Portland at a nonexistent KKK rally.

We are at our lake house in Alabama, hosting several of my daughter's friends. Nice girls, high school juniors and seniors. We were out on the boat today and came up on a Trump boat parade. Seems to be a standing appointment at Lake Martin for noon on Saturdays--at least a hundred boats, maybe more, all flying Trump and American flags and just cruising around the lake. Very fun.

One of the girls with us does NOT approve, and I asked her why. (Ugh, mistake). "He just gives racists a platform." Oh, boy. I asked her when he did that, and she OF COURSE cited the Charlottesville event that has been continuously debunked, including here and by our hostess. The young woman is just so sure of herself. "He might not have said it, but he gives other people a platform."

And this is the kind of ignorance I have no idea how to countermand. I was called out as racist this week for saying in public that I didn't think Jacob Blake, a sex offender, should have his name on helmets, so maybe I have a shorter fuse than usual for baselessly calling someone racist. But I really started to pursue it and had to stop. This is a kid, after all. And she takes my being upset as proof that she's right. It's easy to chalk it up to "kids these days," but is it more than that?

selling Hillary for a prez bid was probably a hard sell months ago,
but with Test-Pattern Joe on the fritz (Please stand by!)

the passing of RBG perhaps has motivated the Demoralized Dems--

what if Sleepy Joe croaks, say, during the debates, provokes sympathy,
and a Hillary/Harris ticket is formed?

when ProgLibDem icons die, do their memorial services* render Covid harmless?

Dear AA...

As a service to your loyal followers, please consider making your main graphic ('Althouse' in a box at the top of the page) a clickable link that goes to your home page.

Traditionally, and for ease-of-use, a company logo, blog title, etc. has such a linked graphic.

When we humble commenters wish to replenish the page to check for new musings or posts, it would save us from sliding the cursor a few hundred pixels, thereby staving off the onset of carpal tunnel syndrome.

Humbly yours...js

I also wonder what to say to neighbors about politics. My area is so liberal that saying nothing is best if I want neighbors. Shorewood Lite, that's us. But I try out lines. Someone was telling me how much she missed her grandchildren who are far away and she can't fly to see them. I tried "I think covid is dying out, there's fewer deaths all the time", trying to get to a discussion of "cases don't mean deaths." She looked at the ground and said very softly: "We have to do the right thing; we have to stick together; we have to hope for the best." I wanted to cry, so good and so abused in her trust. On racism, I'm going to try: "I just don't like it when they go in and burn and loot in black neighborhoods." 'Cause I know they aren't going to say: "No, that's wrong, they should come and burn and loot here." So maybe they'll rethink the burning.

A joke becomes a riddle
If Nero drops his fiddle
And given enough time
Becomes a hate crime

I am one who shuns the mob
Like a roach avoids strong light
They seek to recheck my subs
Searching for suspected snubs
As cities burn into blight
They find a senior to rob

I am one who employs no staff
but hears the gods as they laugh
when trendy Marxists taking cover
Casually allow hell to freeze over

Always run from a fire
And stay in the shadows
While covering your nose
Lest you arouse their ire

Some fools throw us dirty looks
Order us to burn our books
And permit fake news to sway
After pretending to pray

Untended dogs dash from their dens
And chase down unintended digs
While asking why so many duds
Possess a distinct lack of dads

Even if trees look like
wild haired wasted women
Against the midnight stars
Men still hurry to wars
Driving a Detroit lemon
Over a Wall Street spike

A joke becomes riddle
Given enough telling
All caps means ur yelling
Even if u, u and u
Know clearly what to do
When the politicians diddle

My experience when talking to teenagers is that if they have a predetermined position, They will hold it to the bitter end. That's even if it forces them into illogical territory. That does not mean that you have not had an influence on their thinking. Just don't expect them to suddenly say, "OMG, you're right.I never thought of it that way."
