When confronted with his options, it seems that a combination of blame shifting and attacking Trump looked like a win-win. Watching this was painful not merely due to the verbiage, but to the palpable sense of failure and inadequacy this man projects.

Feckless does not even begin to describe Ted Wheeler. DeBlasio is a horrible Mayor, but he's doing what his personal philosophy tells him to do. He's a socialist and he's running New York into the ground by being a Socialist. Ted Wheeler is just simply incompetent on such a massive scale that it's hard to put it into words. His personal philosophy seems to have been pulled from children's stories. His city is done. Businesses, large and small, are queuing up to leave Portland. The productive are moving out of the city, or out of the state. They are going away and will not be coming back. The Governor of Oregon, Kate Brown, and the Mayor of Portland, Ted Wheeler, live in a fantasy world which is coming crashing down around their head. Hell- the protestors were in Wheeler's condo building a night ago. And weeks ago when he went out among them, they insulted him and basically told him to go home. And he did.
He can point to Trump, or not. It does not matter. Portland is a disaster, and that's the reality. Brown & Wheeler believe in their political party above their citizenry, the state, or the country. What a disaster.

It's very difficult to take vigorous action on a single issue while also distancing yourself from other people who want to take vigorous action on the same issue.

All right, I'm going there...where are all deaf folks? Why have an interpreter for every speech, especially down to the municipal level? What ever happened to Closed Captioning? I'm basically blind, but there's nobody but my wife to assist when I walk into a wall or trip over just about anything on the floor really. My neighbor growing up (in the 70s) was deaf, we figured each other out quite easily. He and I would sit in the street (OK it was a cul de sac) with a telescope and look at the stars, and he could say in a motion and a grunt enough for me to fully comprehend his idea, just as he could understand me with my bizarre hand waving. It just worked. I think that might be what's wrong with us, we can't sit out in our front yards and communicate anymore even when we speak the same language, even with my hand waving.

They are sacrificing you big time for a small political gain that will likely backfire. You are insignificant to them unless you are rioting.
The riots (aka "protests") have been going on for 3 months. In our federal system, maintenance of law and order is primarily a State and local government responsibility. What have you done, Mr. Mayor, to end the riots in your city? How's that working out for you?

I started out as a Democrat. I voted 3rd party until I realized that a vote for a 3rd party was my least effective choice if I wanted a Democrat to be defeated. I, for one, want the party of senile Joe Biden, Antifa-enabling Ted Wheeler ( Mayor of Portland) SF DA Chesa Boudin, and Congresscritter AOC to go down in defeat.
