I’m worried that this is stupid question. But I saw the video of the Kenosha shootings, and I clearly saw the shooter walking up to a police car (as EMT vehicles roared past to reach the shooting victims) with his hands up – apparently surrendering to the (Kenosha) police.
Check out the pictures of the shooting going down in Kenosha thanks to commenter Alan Markus in an earlier thread.
So why a day later did the Illinois (his hometown) police arrest him and return him to Wisconsin.
1. Have I mistaken the video for some other incident? Or was there a second shooting and one shooter turned himself in and the other escaped to Illinois?
2. Did the Kenosha police refuse to take him into custody, or fail to understand that he was the shooter?
3. Is there some other explanation that I can’t see?

Any body have any thoughts to express about "School "Choice", since that seems to be a relatively new issue this week?

Since federal judges decided that "literacy" (seems hard to define, I'd think) is a civil right, of which many students in Detroit were deliberately deprived, there should be calls to "do something." Black education matters. Black futures matter. Black literacy matters. That last, we could march for and wouldn't even have to change t-shirts. BLM, Black (or even "Basic") Literacy Matters. And the system and structural failures of the institutions that now exist show we should "do something" -- different. Defund the teachers, defund the public schools. Then what?

Despite flattening the curve, the mitigation strategies (e.g. "masks", social distancing), stigmatizing early treatment with the HCQ ("disinfectant") cocktail, collateral damage, and Planned Parent, each state has followed the same evolutionary path, and managed to reach peak viral viability (after the fact), with some stuck on a plateau with persistent mandates, which is now declining and approaching asymptotic spread and deaths on conventional pathogen terms.

You got the right video. I have not heard why Kenosha PD did not arrest him. He apparently fled back to his home town, Antioch IL, and was arrested there by local PD.

Not much information coming out of Kenosha, most likely it's too embarrassing to certain people. I did see one article about one of the rioters that was killed. It told how he was a "super peaceful person" and a "terrific skater". I'm pretty sure this was the guy who was beating the shooter with a skate board.

Looks like the Madison PD is quietly trying to preempt and mitigate the damage of Althea Bernstein’s imaginary hate crime by having her “voluntarily” recant rather than charging her with filing a false report.

Just watched the RNC tonight. Since most of the folks I know—including my children, ex-wife, nieces and brother—are Biden/Sanderistas.

I'm so stoked I'm ready to open my betting window. Trump with 300 EC votes and I'll take the over.

It's sort of an election night bet. If the Dems start finding a lot of absentee ballots in their trunks over the next week, I'll have to have a caveat on that.

Note that the shooting and the subsequent riots and more shooting have provided an excellent pretext for Althouse, and many others, not to cover the continuing excellent convention. That's a pity because it's worth covering.

Nothing. We're just acting human as we always have. Remember lions maul each other to death on beautiful African savannas. We're very much part of nature.

@Althouse, I assume that in showcasing Tara Myers at the RNC the Republicans have absolutely lost your vote.

I’m still amazed Rittenhouse was there alone. That seems totally crazy. Many of the rioters are armed and coordinated, and they’d be drawn to a lone sheep like a pack of wolves. In fact, they were. I’d have given him less than a 50/50 chance of surviving the night.

Philip Bump at WaPo notes that "[t]he night before those [Kenosha] protesters were shot, five different speakers at the Republican National Convention, including the president’s son, decried uncontrolled violent mobs that they claim have taken over the nation’s streets."

Selling fear and white nationalism as a deliberate campaign strategy is totally unethical, but inciting a likely mentally-impaired teenage Trumpest to shoot three people, killing two, is beyond the pale. Don Trump Jr (of course), supposedly conservative (but really a stupid Trumpest) Charlie Kirk, Rep. "Gym" Jordan (R-OH) and finally, Mark and Patricia McCloskey, the armed St. Louis couple who threaten protesters tell Republicans that violence against protesters is the answer and only demented Donald can provide needed punishment.

Loose lips do more than sink ships.

Has any more info come out about the young man arrested following the shooting the other night? Other than his being arrested and charged I have not seen much. That usually means that the authorities just don't know any more, or what they know doesn't fit the preferred narrative nor support the charges. As someone upthread asks: what's the latest on Umbrella Man?

That's quite a leap gadfly (@4:53). Sarcasm?

Jaq said...

Gaffy reports from the WaPo. What’s next, CNN? No wonder you’re mind has been so poisoned. Why don’t you just admit that you are a Democrat already?

"Selling fear and white nationalism as a deliberate campaign strategy is totally unethical”

So it’s your contention that it’s Trump behind the riots and arson? An inside job, just like 9-11, right? Riot troofer. The riots are about creating fear, that is their purpose, just like the little stunt of forcing people to salute the White Left and its corporate subsidiary BLM, a division of ActBlue, in that restaurant in Washington was.

"violence against protesters” So the rioters and arsonists are “protesters” in your world, “peaceably assembled”? If psychology hadn’t been totally co-opted by politics, I would say you need a shrink, but they would probably just make it worse by encouraging you, kind of like the one in Alice’s Restaurant who started chanting “Kill! Kill!” along with Arlo.

Jaq said...

"Looks like the Madison PD is quietly trying to preempt and mitigate the damage of Althea Bernstein’s imaginary hate crime by having her “voluntarily” recant rather than charging her with filing a false report.”

So they are not charging her with arson? Gee, I wonder why people despair of the Democrats’ response to these riots, continuing to call them protests.

Jaq said...

At least attempted mass murder, there were a lot of people in that building she apparently tried to set ablaze. Just because she was an incompetent leftard doesn’t make it OK.

iowan2 said...

violence against protesters is the answer

This is how stupid, uninformed, and clueless, Democrat voters are.

I have not seen any person advocate violence. Even our cruelly neutral host has purchased a firearm, and trained herself, to remain in control of her life. Because she is advocating violence? No, because she is a rational prudent person. You have now identified her as a radical, advocating violence against people exercising their rights.

Gadfly stop being a shithead. At least here. No one visiting here is buying your propaganda. The people that visit here are rational and informed. Not Biden voters like you.

I didn't check -- but assume it's all full of passive voice.

My biggest takeaway from the RNC so far, the part that resonated the most: Trump has kept us out of war in foreign lands.

Strange that nowhere on the article does it say she actually recanted her story, only that protesters allege that she was "pressured." The police aren't commenting due to the ongoing investigation; Bernstein's attorney isn't saying anything either. Maybe everyone's hoping it goes quietly down the memory hole.
