"Look. Come on, man. I know you're trying to goad me, but I mean, I'm so forward looking to have an opportunity to sit with the President or stand with the President and debate."
Joe Biden doesn't need a tell-an-elephant-from-a-lion test! Just watch him, listen to him and judge.
Now, he did say "I'm so forward looking to have an opportunity" instead of "I'm so looking forward to having an opportunity," but it's speech, man. Talking is what it is. Trump makes his own mistakes.
ADDED: "Yo, Semites" is hilarious, but think more deeply about it. It means that Trump has very little interest in our national parks. I'd like someone to ask him if he has ever, on his own, outside of any political or business reason, traveled through the great landscapes of America. Has he ever hiked in Zion or the Badlands or Glacier? Has he seen the sunrise in Bryce Canyon? Which parks has he visited it? Did he ever go to one just to see it? Has he ever taken a road trip across America? Can he even drive? What's the farthest he, personally, has driven a car? I can only picture him driving a golf cart! Distance: 18 holes.

I mean, unless somebody can sell him the cognitive equivalent of a bottle of clean piss.
Wesley Yang made a good point about people who mispronounce words. It shows they read a lot.
OMFG!
I can only picture him driving a golf cart! Distance: 18 holes.
That's so lame, Ann! He's good for 36 any day.
Joe's so forcible. Why just yesterday he sent his phony-doctor wife out to tell the world old Joe'll be there for the debates. And she said debates.
Well, if nothing else, they've got the bluster.
"I'm so forward..." - Joe Biden
Did Biden just compare calls for him taking a cognitive test - a freaking normal course of business for a 79 year old man - to a black man being tested for drugs?
Wow. If the shoe was on the other foot...
Everyone stumbles in speech. Some people more than others. And some people stumble today more than they did a few years ago. Some of those things are worrying, some are not.
Biden’s reaction to being asked about a mental test reminds me of how I sometimes reacted to being asked if I was drunk when I was but wanted to hide it. It’s an odd conceit. Similar to what I found when I worked in a liquor store—underage kids thinking the best way to convince me they were 21 was to act outraged when I asked to see an ID. The feigned indignation is as good as an admission of guilt.
Not everyone is interested in the same things. I love hiking and nature - and our national parks are a treasure.
so what if Trump would rather be on the golf course. Or in a suit behind a desk?
Anyone ever ask Obama if he likes to visit national parks and take a hike? nah - why? because he lowered the seas.
meanwhile ... the hack press makes no mention of this:
Trump signs landmark Great American Outdoors Act
that bastard!
Love the part where Slow Joe implies the black journalist is a drug user.
Trump may have little or no personal interest in our national parks but he is supporting them, nonetheless.
He flew to Arizona to visit the wall which is near a national monument (Organ Pipe). Does that count?
Count me in on driving across the country in a pickup with a camper shell. Visiting some of the under-the-radar places, skipping Wall Drug, stopping in Spillville, Iowa. Graceland.
On the other hand, regardless of whether he can pronounce the name correctly or whether he has been there or even whether he gives 2 shits about the parks at all, he has done a lot for them.
Isn't that the important thing?
Or is just talking and pronouncing and posing for photo ops, without actually doing much, the preferable way to go?
You want to see someone garble stuff off a teleprompter? Try this https://youtu.be/B0Q5sE8u6ek
Or look at anything Joe Biden has done recently.
You dog faced lying pony soldier, you!
John Henry
“C’mon man,” Biden chided Barnett—the Black CBS correspondent. “That’s like saying, ‘You — before you got on this program you took a test where you’re taking cocaine or not, what do you think? Huh? Are you a junkie?’”
Seems the wrong thing to say to Errol Barnett at a conference of Black and Latino journalists,
Apparently Slo Joe doesn't know that many companies require a drug test prior to making an offer of employment.
And what's with this "c'mon man" stuff. It seems to be a tell that he is about to say something either dumb, untrue, or off topic.
Does ByeDen pass the /appreciates nature/hikes the pony soldier Yellowstone/communes with the wild beasts - test?
ByeDen does pass the --- (*annoying air quotes*) Makes son Hunter rich with our tax dollars washed clean thru Ukrainian Energy company and other international chiCom family enrichment schemes -test.
But we ignore all crimes committed by democratics. Because they speak better.
Trump is a city boy and has no history in government before 2016. Biden has had his, and his family's, nose in the government trough for 50 years.
"I'm so forward looking" to see Joe make an ass out of himself during the debates I can hardly wait.
As far as Yos-so-mite I can imagine Trump when he was younger went to see some natural wonders like the Aurora borealis in Alaska or maybe an eclipse on a Brazil mountain top he flew to on a private jet and was like "Meh, what's the big deal?" He probably values National Parks because he knows that is popular, not due to some deep intrinsic value having experienced them. Its just the way he's wired.
I believe that Trump sometimes fumbles words and phrases because he doesn't filter properly and he chooses to say things in stream of consciousness way. I don't believe Trump's speech patterns are a sign of some sort of impairment but an active choice on his part. He likes to fillibuster and barage people with content. It's very inelegant and messy, but it's definitely purposeful. Whether or not Trump's style is appealing or infuriating differs from person to person obviously.
Conversely, I believe that Biden various gaffes and fumbles may indeed be due to some kind of cognitive impairment.
Yes, obviously I'm biased in my interpretations. But I still believe that I'm closer to the truth than not.
btw- Our national Parks are loved to death. They are over-crowded and miserable with gross tourists.
Yea, Trump isn't the kind of guy who you meet out hiking the trails of Yo Semite, but he has one overwhelming quality that Ann cannot resist. The man never wears shorts.
I hate when Trump reads text. He has such a monotone style. He sounds like he's falling asleep. It's like it's in verbal italics, because you can always tell when he's reading. I don't like it, but it is a tell that he's not a trained politician, which means trained to fool you.
"Joe Biden doesn't need a tell-an-elephant-from-a-lion test! Just watch him, listen to him and judge."
Self delusion or trolling? You decide. Judging by the last few weeks, I go with trolling.
"Did he ever go to one just to see it?"
Maybe not. Maybe he's the blackest president we've ever had.
And maybe he agrees with Althouse that travel is overrated.
Why did Biden mention sitting or standing for a debate?
Could it be that Biden really needs to sit because 90 minutes on his feet is beyond his current abilities?
The magic E at the end makes the vowel say its own name, as in antelope or Penelope.
Jimbino can tell you why Trump doesn't go to parks: fucking racist.
There aren't enough blacks around for Trump to feel comfortable.
"Isn't that the important thing?"
No. For the nice women of America, the important thing is whether he shares their feelz.
Joe with his bluster technique. Well it worked against Paul Ryan so I guess he give it a go again 2020.
Trump needs to stick with talking unscripted, and Biden needs to stick to the script. That tells me one man is far more capable than the other. If we need a reader, we can get Siri to do the job, besides she knows everything, every. thing.
You forgot to mention that just last month Joe Biden said he was tested all the time. Let's not look into his inconsistencies which if Trump said it, would be called a lie and fact checkers would make it front page news. Let's focus on Trump and whether he visited a national park. C'mon man!
I've been to Yo Smite, dunno where Yo Semite is - Middle Earth, er, Middle East?
I’m doubtful he’s ever taken a vacation that wasn’t business related.
He’s wired differently than most of us.
It means that Trump has very little interest in our national parks.
And this matters, why? Sheesh.
Phil 314: "Joe with his bluster technique. Well it worked against Paul Ryan so I guess he give it a go again 2020."
It certainly was helpful to Biden that, in the end, we find out Ryan was basically on Team obama/biden the whole time and that no doubt influenced Ryan's many, many debate non-responses to Biden's charges.
Ryan, like all the house broken LLR's, is very happy to lose to democrats with a pleasant demeanor.
Harsh, cruel awakening for Slow Joe.
Can the Democrats dump Biden?
Trump signs bill for 3 billion dollars for conservation and the national parks. Meanwhile Ann visits Colorado and tries to shame Donald for playing golf.
We can only imagine just how nasty the press would be to Trump if he had said that to the journalist. I am really getting tired of the double standard. I had never heard the Trump 'Yo-seminite' gaff before - pretty funny.
I doubt if Trump has been to a National Park - and it really doesn't matter to me. Someone above questioned if Obama had ever been asked if he liked to hike in the parks. Some people like getting out in nature and some people don't.
I am 64, but think that the Dr's start asking you the 3 word question at 65. My husband has had to do it for a couple of years now. I am sure that Biden's Dr has at a minimum done that standard test for memory. And if the Dr hasn't then they should.
And I am really tired of Biden and his "hey man" - he says that way too much.
Joe will get the media's potty stool stepper.
@rhharfin, you’re trolling us, right? Because the women I’ve known named Penelope wanted their names pronounced like Pen-el-oh-PEE.
Joe with his bluster technique. Well it worked against Paul Ryan so I guess he give it a go again 2020.
I seriously doubt his "bluster technique" would work on Trump. It relies on an opponent who is a stiff, straight laced square like Paul Ryan. You need that contrast for it to work. You can say a lot of things about Trump, but he's no square.
Biden is a complete buffoon. Unworthy to even to run for high office. The King of Delaware.
Ann, I live (and work) about an hour away from Yosemite Valley. Occasionally I get phone calls from people on the east coast and MOST of them butcher the pronunciation of "Yo sa mite". Likewise most people (if not local) can not guess the correct pronunciation of the county I work it. Tuolumne does not equal Tooallomaine.
Get over it, I'll bet more people in the US, unless they have visited and or lived here, can not pronounce Yosemite then can.

I get indignant when they don't ask me for ID.

Joe Biden: I've been tested and I'm constantly tested.
Also Joe Biden: No I haven't been tested. Why would I be tested?
Tomorrow Biden: What's a test? Are you a drug addict? Fat! Cornpop!
Regarding the Added, Yosemite is such a part of the national consciousness that I can’t understand why the professor thinks Trump’s mispronunciation is an indication that he doesn’t go to parks and therefore might not have heard of it. That’s nonsense. (4 out of 5 Yosemite Sams agree!)
Far more likely, he didn’t preview that part of the speech or was distracted and started pronouncing the word before realizing what the word was (when reading out loud, our brains and our mouths are often on different parts of the text). Instead of stopping and making a big deal of it, he just kept going. After all, why should he make a big deal of it when he knows the idiots in the press will make a big deal of it for him?
If Trump is given something to read - a prepared speech - He should read thru it first.
Obama mis-prounounced things on occasion. But it was no biggie.
Self delusion or trolling? You decide.
@Ray, I go with self delusion. It’s unquestionable that the woman has an excellent brain, When she wants to use it, but that brain hasn’t learned how to tell her emotions to STFU.
I dont care about his personal interest or lack thereof in parks. He doesn't have a problem signing bills to maintain and improve them and that's good enough for me, someone who does like hiking.
I know y'all hate Trump, but you're gonna vote for a blithering idiot to be President? C'mon, man!
The President is a city mouse.
“The crown jewel in the Trump Fleet is the custom Boeing 757, one of the most famous private jets in the world. The aircraft is powered by Rolls Royce Engines and can fly up to 8 hours uninterrupted within a 3,000-mile range. The Trump 757 has been entirely customized and features Italian leather seats embroidered with the Trump Family crest, 24-karat gold plated accents, two private guestrooms, three bathrooms, dining and conference areas and an extensive entertainment system that rivals any private theater. The Trump 757 has been featured on the world stage, crossing virtually every inch of the country and beyond.”
“ The Trump Cessna Citation is another very special feature within the Trump Aviation fleet. This high speed jet is often referred to as a “rocket in the sky,” flying at speeds up to Mach .92 and altitudes as high as 51,000 feet. It is one of the fastest in the world and allows for entry into smaller airports. The interior seats 9 passengers comfortably and is outfitted with top of the line interiors.”
“As part of the Trump Organization’s aviation department, the company owns three spectacular Sikorsky S76 Helicopters. Each helicopter is outfitted with high end comfortable interiors, refreshment centers and live map displays. The helicopter can easily be spotted in the sky as its buzzing off with its signature black, white and red design, complemented by the TRUMP aviation logo on the exterior of all three aircrafts.”
And a golf cart.
Also, FWIW, I know of a lot of people who are ardent campers and hikers, but who wouldn’t go to a national park if you paid them.
Joe Biden's husband Joe Biden isn't going to let any smack talkin' smack using dog faced liar question his...you know...the thing.
I'd like someone to ask him if he has ever, on his own, outside of any political or business reason, traveled through the great landscapes of America.
Why? Because you're stupid. Ann, if I agree with you on everything and have shared all your experiences but want to kill you, am I someone you should prefer to someone with nothing in common with you, but who is trying to save you?
Maybe that explains BLM. You can kill me, just don't be white.
Biden denying having taken a mental fitness or acuity test - isn't there a lie here? I thought he was recently quoted as saying that he was tested every day.
Having made his statement, Biden made the V-for-Victory sign and shouted "Vootie!" Then he yelled, "To the Batmobile!" and departed, leaving people shaking their heads and whirling their index fingers at their heads in the universal "he's lost it" hand signal.
As for Biden - anyone impressed? Anyone think he knocked that out of the park? Looked good? Looked acceptable? Looked Presidential?
So now Slow Joe is attacking CBS talking heads, who are part of the phalanx of MSM trying to push him across the finish line? He seemed to think his "junkie" burn was the cat's meow.
Tommy Duncan said,
"Why did Biden mention sitting or standing for a debate?
Could it be that Biden really needs to sit because 90 minutes on his feet is beyond his current abilities?"
I'll give a pass to that. I'm in my late 30s and do crossfit and give lots of presentations and I genuinely wouldn't want to stand and debate for 90 minutes. I like me some sitting.
To heck with lions, I just hope that the American people can tell the difference between and elephant and a jackass on November 3rd.
Bet Trump knows how to say "corpsman," though.
57 states and corpse-man. Anyone who is constantly being recorded and photographed for years on end will make mistakes.
Most coddled politicians (whose expenses we pay) don't drive themselves. Neither do very rich people. I'm guessing Pelosi hasn't driven nor seen the inside of a compact car in at least fifty years.
So Trump's not a hiker...he must be burned!!
I, too, am so forward looking to Biden having an opportunity to debate the President.
I'm fairly confident, however, that nobody else on Joe's team shares that sentiment.
I have seen several people, over the course of my life, stumble over "Yosemite". It is one of those words you have to have actual experience reading. It isn't even enough to have heard it before- you have to be familiar with how it is spelled.
Didn't Biden claim, just days ago, that he was "tested all the time"?
I have seen Biden use a couple of different coping mechanisms when he loses his train of thought. He either says “I don’t have time to get into the details right now” even if he has plenty of time or he uses “I better not say that or it might get me into trouble” even though he just said something his handlers are cringing at such as asking a journalist if they should be tested for coke. If you don’t see the mental decline by now you don’t want to see it. Hard to believe out of 330M people this is the best Democratic candidate available to take on Trump.
Meanwhile Ashleigh cringes in the background as Yo Semite rolls off the boss's tongue time and time again! I don't think there will be any pronounciation assumptions made on the part of his comms team from here on...
Joe was not reading this time, so not quite apples to apples comparison here. I do wonder what he was going to say - but caught himself - that would have brought trouble!
Ha! I actually have a friend who was driving near Yosemite but didn't really know it. And he said he kept asking himself what all these signs were for YO-sem-eyet. He could not see it as "Yosemite" even though most of the time he would know very well that's what it is.
Biden wanting to debate is what you highlight?
What about Biden's racist response asking whether the Black reporter was a cocaine user??
I am certain Joe was asked another time if he had been tested for cognitive skills and he said he was.
I can hardly pronounce it either championed as it was by that racist Muir.
Oh yes that did happen:
https://www.cnn.com/2020/08/05/politics/joe-biden-2020-cognitive-test/index.html
"At a campaign event in June, when asked by a reporter if he has been tested for any sort of cognitive decline, Biden said he's "been tested and I'm constantly tested" as it relates to his cognitive abilities. Biden's advisers say he was referring to the everyday rigors of a campaign. "
Was the bit he kept himself from saying about push-ups?
How dare anyone question Joe's mental filt, mental, mental filt..you know the thing!
"If he can't tell the difference between an elephant an a lion…"
Wasn't it a rhino and a hippo, and wasn't it Don Leman who flubbed it?f
This is not a good outing—or should I say inning—for Biden. He is a shadow of the goofy, creepy, back-slapping hair sniffer that we all have known for so many years.
I can only picture him driving a golf cart!
Here's a picture of Trump driving a very nice golf cart.
As for Can he even drive? Here is Bloomberg's answer.
But if I had Trump's money; I'd visit the large national parks by helicopter.
If "hiked a national park" was a qualifier for U.S. President, it is doubtful many members of Congress could pass the test.Come on - Pelosi, McConnell, Waters, Omar, Feinstein......They refer to it as flyover country for a reason.
C'mon Man
as tim m said...
it's been MY experience, that people that make a big deal about tests; have reasons to be concerned
Just like ID's; who gets upset about being asked to show their ID? people that can't show one
Serious Question
Of those of you out there, how many would be upset about taking a cocaine test?
If you're upset; is that because your son Hunter's urine might be mixed up with yours?
Seriously, Let's Ask Jo Biden for a Cocaine test.... WOULD He pass? how about Ritalin?
Not a surprise that Trump would have little interest in the national parks. I visit a couple of state parks near me pretty regularly. One is a bike/walking/running trail that extends for 45 miles. It is used a great deal, on the weekends, probably by thousands, given that it is 45 miles long (only about a hundred feet wide). What I notice is that all these people are out on the trail, sometimes for hours, and they are not spending any money! No company is making a recurring profit! Sure, people have bought bikes and clothing and running gear, but those are one-time purchases. So of course, in Trump's way of thinking, parks are simply a waste of space. Very hard to monetize them. They are anathema to every value on which he has pitched his life and way of being.
Let's dissect what "Look. Come on, man" really means as Biden repeats it constantly.
Look = I'm not going to bother to explain the basis of my thinking or rationale.
Come on, man. = You're lying or obtuse.
I think this Biden dementia talk is slightly over-blown.
there was already quite a bit of talk during the primaries about his faculties.
but once he popped up at the last couple of debates, when the stakes were kind of high, he seemed fine.
Jimmy Fallon did his Trump impression last night. and I thought Yo Semite was a hilarious joke. I didn’t know it was a quote.
When Trump reads out loud,he sounds like a fifth-grader reading in front of the class, with his stilted, uneven meter, and use of the long A for “a”, and “thee” for “the”. It’s ridiculous, but I will never vote for a Dem.
"I'll take Yo Semite for $400."
"That's 'Yosemite'."
"I Yosemit'd your mother last night, Trabek!"
So forward looking to the debates.
Will even Althouse be able to rationalize a vote for Biden this time? I know she's good, but -- .
Trump is a Noo Yawkuh. And all the nature that a Noo Yawkuh needs can be found in Central Park. It is what it is.
Now as somebody who was born on, and who has lived on the Western Slope for all of his life, there's a lot that I don't like about Noo Yawkuhs. Some of them have been friends of mine, but I don't have much use for most of them. One thing I won't criticize Manhattanites or Queens people for is their failure to travel to our National Parks out west. I can hear, and have heard, German, French, Spanish and Italian spoken at the Grand Canyon or at Zion or Yosemite as European tourists have enjoyed our parks. I've also been in 45 of our 50 states.
But if a Noo Yawkuh never learns to drive a car and travel across the countryside, I say more power to them. And they are not alone. My recently deceased 89 year old brother in law lived all his life in San Francisco--and never learned to drive a car.
As noted Trump struggles to pronounce Yosemite--but he has done things for our national parks.
Obama struggled to pronounce "corpse" man. Did he do anything for the USMC? Not that I know of.
Which parks has he visited it? Did he ever go to one just to see it? Has he ever taken a road trip across America?
First, Althouse lords over everyone her firearms training.
Now, her summers off as a tenured academic!
Trump's question to Althouse: Have you ever fucked a porn star?
(Of course, I'm teasing.)
"Zac Petkanas, a former Hillary Clinton senior adviser, wrote on Twitter last week that Biden can skip the debates because President Trump is not a “legitimate candidate,”"
https://www.dailywire.com/news/curl-the-debate-about-the-debates-was-created-solely-by-democrats
Not a legitimate candidate? He's the incumbent!
The test will be administered by the public if we can just get Joe to show up.
I'm expecting the Biden campaign to keep telling us he will debate, while working feverishly behind the scenes to get them cancelled somehow.
As backup, the press right now is trying to figure out who to get to ask the questions and how to get those questions asked in a way that makes it easy for Biden to look simply OK. That's all they are shooting for: Biden to not look terrible, because that alone will save him a few million votes. Lapdogs with a smidgen of conscience are trying to find a way to vote for a man clearly disabled for the job. The left has gone so bat shit crazy this year that I expect them to make the argument that Joe should be elected to avoid offending the handicapped. I said it here first.
Does one need to have visited Yosemite to be able to competently pronounce the name?
This is a beautiful comments page, watching how Trump fans make excuses for the latest Trump verbal weirdness.
Althouse I fully understand how you’d like to cast doubt on Biden’s mental acuity and how you’d like to avoid questions about Trump’s mental competence. For me, the notion that Joe Biden is mentally compromised just makes Trump’s losing to Biden that much better. If Biden is as bad as Trump fans propose, it’s like watching the New York Yankees lose to the Scranton RailRiders. For Yankee- (and Trump-) haters like me, that is an almost indescribably satisfying result.
FTR: Yosemite is hard to access. It is off the California highway system and has a very small lodging facility that is booked up for years in advance. Trump would never sit still for that long just to see a pretty mountain.
Well, as long as he is supporting them, you can't say Trump is anti-Semite.
Yo!
So park shaming now?
So, he's now announced that he will accept the nomination from his basement - no primetime speech - but he WILL debate Trump. C'mon man, that strains credulity...
I live in Utah, and I've never been Zion's or Bryce. That's because I go to the east side of the state, though. Not to Moab and Canyonlands, though. The Abajos and Elk Ridge. I actually know where the Bears Ears are.
Why Joe is a "lying dog-faced pony soldier."
And he is running for the Senate!
It will be Biden's downfall if he debates and even one serious question, with no teleprompter, is asked. It MIGHT be his downfall if he refuses to debate for any reason.
So he as to very dangerous options.
Lots of luck.
I wouldn't go to any of the national parks if you paid me--but I can pronounce their names. Then again, if I were reading a statement (written by someone else, no run through), as Trump was, I might be focusing on being fluent, just articulating the words, rather than reading for/absorbing meaning. Of course, because it's Trump, it's a huge deal.... No one I know thinks Trump is articulate, but that doesn't mean he's impaired or clueless.
FYI, before he was POTUS, Trump often drove one of his luxury/vintage cars; frequently seen on the parkway leaving Manhattan (for Westchester/CT?). If he wasn't in a convertible with the top down, anyone would know it was him via vanity plate.
I mean, unless somebody can sell him the cognitive equivalent of a bottle of clean piss.
Considering his history of plagiarism, this would be right up his alley.
If only our gracious hostess would use her cruel lack of neutrality against Gropee Joe.
I'm confidant it would be quite

Mayhaps the NYT and the potomac compost would be interested.

"It means that Trump has very little interest in our national parks."
You can be interested in something without having to physically go see it. or touch it. I'm interested in tigers, but I wouldn't want one in my living room or go to a zoo to see one or even go on a safari.
Mispronouncing a name. Everyone does that...however, if you are making a speech about something, you should be aware of how it is pronounced. Yo-semite Corpse men.
I mispronounced the word Armageddon for years, because I had only read it and never heard it. Fortunately, a very kind person apprised me of my mistake. I still think of it in the wrong pronunciation in my head though and sometimes slip up. Habits are hard to break.
And not all of those 18 holes had anything to do with golf.
President Trump fairly publicly and dramatically visited one of the jewels of the National Park Service, just last month for the 4th of July.

Chuck-shit telling us that the country doesn't matter to his China leftists pals. Chuck even gives trial lawyers a bad name, and that is not easy.
The difference between the two gaffs here is that nobody thinks Trump's was due to a cognitive decline that can only get worse and usually does so very fast. Biden was not mispronouncing a single word that he was not familiar with. He couldn't put together sentences using words he knows well. That is the important thing. The two gaffs have really nothing in common.
Good to see ya Chuck.
Sorry about Amash.
Sad.
Trump is old school. The point of the good life was to NOT have to exercise. Except for you-know-what heheheh.
Anyway, a Biden presidency would be rule by committee. Like the politburo.
I wouldn't have minded him in his younger more lucid days. But who knows who will really be calling the shots in his admin.
I'm pretty sure that Trump's seen his share of scenery at resorts. They tend to be placed near mountains or seashores or such. It's often hard to tell exactly where parks stop and private land begins.
Psota,
True. They juiced him up good. Well napped.
It's much worse when on campaign trail.
Presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden will not travel to Milwaukee later this month to accept his nomination by the Democratic National Convention, according to reports from Wednesday morning.
Biden's original intentions of traveling to the midwestern city "have been scrapped because of coronavirus concerns," Bloomberg reporter Tyler Pager tweeted on Wednesday.
Can anyone imagine Obama going to a national park or taking a road trip across this great country?
'Yosemite' -- isn't that the awful Austrailian paste you put on toast?
We hold these truths to be stuffeluffagus... you know the thing.
More relevant to their actual job, Obama thought corpsman was pronounced "corpse man." Obviously never had any interest in the military.
LLR-lefty and Chair of the FakeCon's For All Democratics Chuck: "Does one need to have visited Yosemite to be able to competently pronounce the name?"
Does one need to have spoken to a corpsman to be able to competently pronounce the role?
Does one need to have visited all 50 states to be able to competently identify we do not have 57 states?
And yes, I realize that by pointing out these obama flubs I am likely to trigger another, of the many, many LLR-lefty Chuck spittle-flecked rage-athons where Chuck begins to once again attack children, women and any conservative with a military background.
“Yo, Semite!” is how Rocky Balboa greets a Jew.
It takes Stumblin' Joe multiple tries to get out "physical and mental fitness" (not the best place to stumble, by the way) and you go straight to "why hasn't Trump ever visited our National Parks?"
walter: "Good to see ya Chuck.
Sorry about Amash.
Sad."
Its so strange. LLR-lefty Chuck has been telling us for years that Amash represents all that is good and right in the world and that Amash should have challenged Trump for the republican nomination and then we find that Amash, as an incumbent, was unable to muster more than 0.5% support in his home district.
Why, its almost as if LLR-lefty Chuck is only able to see and "understand" the world thru the prism of far left democrat marxist political analysis.........
.....almost as if...........
By the way, regarding the "Yo-Semites" blunder, I used to do college radio and we had a set of public address cards that we had to read on occasion. I still remember stumbling over "Indochina" because the idiot who prepared the card had hyphenated it - there wasn't enough room at the end of a line for the whole word - as "Indoch" on one line and "ina" on the other. Easy to imagine Yoesmite being so hyphenated as
blah blah blah Yo-
Semite blah blah...
Paul Snively: "And not all of those 18 holes had anything to do with golf."
(rimshot!) "Hiiiiiiiyyyyoooooooooo"
Althouse said Yo, Semites" is hilarious, but think more deeply about it. It means that Trump has very little interest in our national parks.
Just maybe, just maybe, Trump has read some original books on Yosemite. I've been there a lot and recall reading "Yo Semite" in several books possibly including John Muir.
From Smithsonian: The naturalist John Muir is so closely associated with Yosemite National Park—after all, he helped draw up its proposed boundaries in 1889, wrote the magazine articles that led to its creation in 1890 and co-founded the Sierra Club in 1892 to protect it.
From Wikipedia:
The first US post office opened in 1869, originally named "Yo Semite." The spelling was changed to Yosemite in 1908 and to Yosemite National Park in 1922.
Yosemite is from Yos.s.e'meti (Central Miwok) originally referred to the Indian tribe that lived in Yosemite Valley. Yosemite means literally “those who kill”
Not to offend you but I think it's a little snarky to decide "Trump has very little interest in our national parks". Trump has his interests, you and I have ours. I don't like golf and apparently neither do you. He probably also doesn't scuba dive, sailboat, play pickup basketball, or dozens of other things that neither you and I may do. To each his own.
I also really don't appreciate the emphasis on adding National Park visits to people's "bucket list". It crowds up the park with "selfie" tourists who in the end have no real interest in the park. Entering Yellowstone you are told not to take selfies with the Buffalo. This should not be necessary advice when entering a National Park. We have to find less used trails and off trail hikes to get the peace we look for in the National parks and forests.
The last time we went up to Tuolumne Meadows area and hiked the more obscure Mono pass trail, a pair of "selfie" tourists in the parking area asked us, "Where is the John Muir trail? We want to hike it." My wife and I looked at each other no knowing what to say.
I'll go way off base here. I just read that Pete Hamill died today.
"A Brooklyn-born high school dropout, Hamill was a columnist for the New York Daily News, the New York Post, Newsday, the Village Voice, New York magazine and Esquire. He wrote screenplays, several novels and a bestselling memoir, “A Drinking Life.”
He was a great story teller. A terrific writer. And the kind of newsguy (if I can use that term given today's post) that is sorely missed today. RIP Pete Hamill.
My favorite presidential mispronunciation remains Bill Clinton's in a documentary about Teddy Roosevelt. May have been on PBS, and may have aired during Bill's presidency, but I didn't see it till after he was out of office. His pronunciation of "bravado" was so on brand, I couldn't help but laugh: BRA-vah-doe.
The only president since T. Roosevelt whom I can imagine trekking through a national park is Bush II.
The only one who seems less likely than Trump to have done it is Roosevelt II.
Now I'm sad thinking that Trump didn't watch Bugs Bunny and Yosemite Sam. Although it is possible that he didn't connect the spoken word with the written word. I was an adult before I realized that segue didn't rhyme with league. I'd heard the word used and read the word (wrongly) but didn't connect the two for a long time.
I don't know which makes me feel worse for Biden - if he knows he has cognitive issues but is trying to power through because he feels it's his duty or if he doesn't realize it and still is ready to meet someone outside to beat them up to prove he has the highest IQ in the room.
GW Bush mispronounced nuclear.
Canadians can't seem to get the hang of aluminum.
So long as you don't use I when me is correct, you will get no criticism from me for what you say. And remember, garner is never appropriate.
Doesn't Mt. Rushmore count? Even if not an official "Park", it's managed by NPS
"Yo, Semites" is hilarious, but think more deeply about it. It means that Trump has very little interest in our national parks.
Mrs. NorthOfTheOneOhOne has an engineering degree and an MBA, but cannot to save her life pronounce the word 'tour' correctly. Does that mean she's not interested in travel or going on tours? Not in my experience.
I don't live in a city, and have no interest in cites: we must get rid of them.
Speaking of travel, Biden and other Democrats will again assume Wisconsin is in the bag and skip travelling there. Supposedly because of coronavirus. George Floyd's and John Lewis's funeral are must travel along with allowing "mostly peaceful" protests, but visiting Wisconsin is too dangerous. Let that sink in.
"C'mon man!" will need to be the new drinking game for the debates. It's pretty clearly Slow Joe's crutch, the thing he will say whenever he's getting lost in the Chutes and Ladders of a sentence.
DIdn't Biden just say a couple months ago that he constantly took cognitive tests?
Which is it?
There are a number of examples where Biden begins to make a contemporaneous statement then stops himself -- "I'd better not say that..."
It's apparent that his handlers (or wife) are telling him not to stray from the script.
I'm an outdoorsy type. I've been a rock climber and hiker for 30 years. I've never visited a single National Park that I can recall.
Trump may be right. He asked Two Corinthians guys how it was pronounced and they said Yosemite Samuel was likely the Yiddish pronunciation.
If you don't vote for him then you ain't black.

“As part of the Trump Organization’s aviation department, the company owns three spectacular Sikorsky S76 Helicopters. Each helicopter is outfitted with high end comfortable interiors, refreshment centers and live map displays. The helicopter can easily be spotted in the sky ...”
When Duchess Fergie visited NYC in the 90's she needed a large enough helicopter to accompany all of her required bodyguards. My wife called the Trump Organization and Donald got back to her with an offer. If he could sit next to Fergie, they could have the helicopter for free.
I imagine, that if there are in-person debates that Trump will goad Biden into a push-up contest allowing Biden to go first. The contest will end when Biden has a heart attach, has another aneurysm or craps himself on national TV. I eagerly await this "must see TV".
"Trump is old school. The point of the good life was to NOT have to exercise."
Exactly so. The only lean and tanned people were the brutes of the working class. Heck, in many cases they weren't considered white people.

I seriously doubt his "bluster technique" would work on Trump.

Ken B: Wesley Yang made a good point about people who mispronounce words. It shows they read a lot.
Good point. Happens to me regularly. I cringe when I notice one but they happen, and seeing but never hearing a word is a common cause, given the English language's irreguarities plus imports from other languages. Almost every audio book I've listened to has had mispronounced words, too; it happens.
even now I prefer to pronounce niche like cliché??!! I think that has panache!
“That’s like saying, ‘You — before you got on this program you took a test where you’re taking cocaine or not, what do you think? Huh? Are you a junkie?’"
I'll have to remember that the next time a new health care client asks me to piss in a cup for them. Standard procedure.
It wasn't a gaffe, but rather a tell that the imputed meaning of "forward-looking" speaks to virtue and is sprinkled in rhetoric to raise perceived moral... ethical sincerity.
"I live in Utah, and I've never been Zion's or Bryce. That's because I go to the east side of the state, though. Not to Moab and Canyonlands, though. The Abajos and Elk Ridge. I actually know where the Bears Ears are."
I know where the "Wave" is, best Wilderness of all because they let almost no one in. On the AZ UT border.
Reading glasses would probably help. Contact lenses can only correct so much. Biden and Trump both are septuagenarians too vain to wear any specs but shades.
Yo Semite Sam, Jewish? Oi vey!
I don't know what Trump's mispronunciation of Yosemite says about him but I don't feel bad for him when he does it. I don't know what's going on with Joe Biden but I cringe and feel embarrassed for Joe Biden.
So of course, in Trump's way of thinking, parks are simply a waste of space.
I find it fascinating how the left is so sure they can read Trump's mind ... yet get it consistently wrong every time.
How many national parks has Biden visited?
Come on, man. Joe is a national monument himself: he is in the grifters’ hall of fame. He has been screwing things up for almost 50 years. A lifetime of public office has left him rich and stupid. Why not make him president?
I see Oprah is bleating about her lack of privilege. If only she lived in a country that would let her succeed!
Wesley Yang made a good point about people who mispronounce words. It shows they read a lot.
You can always pick out the person who learns their words from books. When I was 10 or 11 I brought my mother to gales of laughter by my attempts to use 'epitome' and 'posthumously' in conversation. (EP-ih-tohm and post-hume-OHS-ly, respectively.)
Hillary was fed the debate questions by CNN.
In Joe's case that might be counterproductive. He'd just get the questions and answers mixed up.
Trump does stream of conscious bluster and sometimes it's genius and sometimes it's a train wreck. It's genius to the extent that he turned it into a television show and then a presidency so there must be something there. The same actually could be said of Biden. He's never been particularly articulate or thoughtful, but he used to be able to bullshit with the best of them. It kept him in politics for 50 years, finishing up with 8 years as vice-president, and that's gotta count for something too. The problem is that Biden's bluster has gotten so slow and hesitant, coming in short bursts with long pauses. It used to be long bursts with short pauses.
"Zac Petkanas, a former Hillary Clinton senior adviser, wrote on Twitter last week that Biden can skip the debates because President Trump is not a “legitimate candidate,”"
LOLOLOLOL Yeah, that will work. What's their next excuse for not debating Trump?
"Yeah, well Biden will just embarrass Trump at the debates and do too good a job, which would be a danger as the american public will want Joe Biden to assume the presidency on the spot which may trigger a constitutional crisis!"
“Look, come on, I know you’re trying to goad me.” is a comeback Trump should have adopted a long time ago.
" mispronounced the word Armageddon for years, because I had only read it and never heard it. “
That was me and “superfluous.” My big sister just about spit her soda pop right out her nose when I said it. It’s funny that I remember exactly where I was.
Justin Amash didn’t ride his ChiCom connections and Trump bashing to victory?
At least he didn't say "Corps-men".
To hell with sitting or standing for a debate. I want to see tap dancing.
Basement Biden won’t appear live to accept the nomination. He won’t do interviews. The Dems are trying to get out of debates. They cannot risk him appearing live, unsupervised. C'mon man, what does that tell you?
It is one of those words you have to have actual experience reading. It isn't even enough to have heard it before- you have to be familiar with how it is spelled.
In conversation, I knew what a Fopah was.
When reading, I knew what a faux pas was.
Boy, was I embarrassed when I found out they were the same word.
Althouse:
We need to know if Biden is competent! We need to know if Biden is competent!

Biden met with a group of black press members and insulted one by asking him is he was tested for cocaine use.
True story.
Not found on CNN.
I note that Biden is not going to be at the Democratic Convention. He wasn't at John Lewis' funeral. Is there anything for which he does show up?
One thing for sure: My question will never reach his ears via the National Press.
When I was a kid it took me a long time to realize that Yosemite Sam and Yo Semite Sam were one and the same.
BleachBit-and-Hammers said... btw- Our national Parks are loved to death. They are over-crowded and miserable with gross tourists
As Yogi Berra explained, nobody goes to the national parks. They're too crowded.
What Biden thinks: "I'm going to debate Trump while taking an IQ test and doing one-arm push ups at the same time."
Inspired by Slow Joe, from now on whenever I get into an argument with someone--whether as political argument or an argument with a store clerk about the price of something--I'm going to respond with "Come on, man--are you a junkie?"
Joe seems to Come-On-Man + Insult EVERYONE who asks him a tough question, as if he's trying to avoid answering.
Funny how it seems to work. Every time. Like a Moron-Jedi mind trick...
“The difference between the two gaffs here is that nobody thinks Trump's was due to a cognitive decline that can only get worse and usually does so very fast.”
No Trumpist that is. The rest of us think Trump has been mentally impaired for a long time. I’d take a senile Biden over a senile Trump any day, so would millions of other people.
Anyone see the footage of the police body cams of George Floyd before he was on the ground?
Mr. Floyd was high on fentenol and kept saying "I can't breathe" over and over. Side effect of fentenol is difficulty breathing - and death. Add that to someone holding you down, and death might be a thing.
Also - some by-standers kept asking George to calm down and give up.
If this is the evidence presented - the cops will not be facing jail. Be prepared for major rioting by the "peaceful protestors"
Ted Cruz: Antifa Rioters 'Are Profoundly Racist'
He's not wrong. Been saying - the white left are the real racists. They torch black businesses.
In his opening remarks at a Senate hearing Tuesday, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) powerfully condemned the antifa rioters who took advantage of the protests over the horrific police killing of George Floyd to engage in looting, vandalism, arson, and other crimes. Cruz denounced their actions as “profoundly racist,” since they have victimized minorities in these heinous crimes, undertaken under cover of protests against racism.
Mentally Unfit Biden Asks African-American Reporter If He’s a Junkie
There are plenty of Semites at our national parks and forests. What you won't find are Black, Brown and Red Amerikans, who are taxed like the rest of us to buy and maintain them.
#CruelNeutralMaskSlip
And Trump is going to lose to this guy, badly.
tim in vermont: "Justin Amash didn’t ride his ChiCom connections and Trump bashing to victory?"
You would think that with the amount of time and money the ChiCom's "invested" in the Amash family business they would have made sure Amash had more "spontaneous" support to encourage Amash not to run away from reelection like the scared little ChiCom bought and paid for welp that he is..........
BTW, that the ChiComs own Amash is one of those selling points of which LLR-lefty Chuck is most enamored.
Biden reminds me of Kelly Bundy (of "Married With Children".)
Give him to many facts in his head and some will leek out as his brain fills up.
Poor Joe. The debates, if they have 'em, are gonna be hard on him.

Its not enough we have 4 years of direct experience to see what he would does
Women voters want a boyfriend rather than a leader.
Maybe Trump should start a blog and post pictures of the sunrise daily to attract the older white woman vote
Doesn’t matter. The national parks will shortly be closed to white people until the requisite number of POC have had a chance to visit. Then whites can be staggered in. The visitation records of POC conclusively show the parks are racist.
You people love wearing the blue dress.
The only president since T. Roosevelt whom I can imagine trekking through a national park is Bush II.
Back in 2000, we stayed at the tent cabins in Toulumne Meadows Lodge in the Yosemite high country. We would spend a week in Mammoth Lakes and one night at a tent in the lodge to enjoy the high country.
The night we got there we found Laura Bush and her party were also at the lodge. She and her friends (and her secret service detachment) were doing the High Sierra camp loop. The Secret Service guys were hilarious - no boots just dress shoes - suits and ties when everyone else was dressed for hiking - one guy following behind the mules on the pack train taking equipment up to Vogelsang Camp for when she got there - real fish out of water everywhere.
I joked with my wife that I didn't want my second grade daughter telling her class that she met the first lady in the bathroom. Next morning about 5:00, I had to accompany my daughter down to the bathroom. Sure enough, Laura Bush comes out laughing. My daughter ran into to her there and gave her the surprised open month gape that only a small kid can do. Later Laura saw our whole family and invited us to have our picture taken with her.
My Aunt Elsie (Illinois)and Uncle Marcus (S.F) lived in Dinuba, Ca, Tulare Co (from whence rabbit-fever got its nameTularemia)Sequoia Nat Park & Sequoia Nat Forrest (part) & Kings Canyon Nat Park (part) and other parks abut near-by Yosemite Nat. Park--all a short drive from Dinuba. I spent several summers in Dinuba and did a car tour of them all. My Uncle Marcus used to jokingly always use the appellation of "YO-Semite."
"Yo, Semites" is hilarious, but think more deeply about it. It means that Trump has very little interest in our national parks. I'd like someone to ask him if he has ever, on his own, outside of any political or business reason, traveled through the great landscapes of America.
If our "stable genius" had not stepped out of the barn and mispronounced "Marine Corps" as "Marine Corpse" and followed up on twitter by spelling it "Marine Core" I might buy into this poor excuse for his illiteracy. Fact is that average grade school students know how to pronounce Yosemite, (Yo-seh-meh-tee) so Donald's problem is deeper. He reads aloud poorly but without understanding.
Biden is unf-f-f-f-f-f-it for office. One would think that a guy who was bragging about his role in promoting and codifying anti-crime policies that had a tremendously negative impact on minority communities should be careful who he’s accusing of drug use.
Be mindful that if Trump loses, the voices of hate and division will only increase in number and volume. If you are white and have children or grandchildren, you’d better anticipate them being harangued and constant attempts made to make them feel a sense of shame for their skin color. And moar leftwing/wannabe communist nonsense.
And moar idiocy from garbage Democrat mayors and governors.
Having a guy sitting in the Oval Office who struggles to string two coherent sentences together and often forgets where he is will be among the least of your worries.
After I moved to where I live now I never made an attempt to pronounce Skaneateles until someone from there told me how. The first time he traveled by bus from NYC to our house in the suburbs my uncle mangled Kinderkamack Road badly enough that it the bus drive had to think about where his passenger wanted to go... Werimus, Weirmus, and Wiermus IIRC, were all road signs printed by one local village on the SAME road. One locally accepted pronunciation mo matter how it was spelled. Didn't matter on you spelled it- the local post office could get mail to someone on the street.
And when I first moved to San Diego (before, way before GPS), for the life of me, I couldn't find this La Hoya place they kept talking about on the radio- until I remembered my HS Spanish and realized that La Jolla on the map was the missing La Hoya I was looking for....

Trump is a city boy and has no history in government before 2016. Biden has had his, and his family's, nose in the government trough for 50 years.
No history IN government, agree. A lot of history WITH government, which undoubtedly has shaped his views on it. He was a developer, a big time developer- he dealt with government daily. As an impediment. I suspect no NYC Democrat politician really want an honest AG and prosecutor looking too closely at all the expenses of all the firms Trump has had a hand in. There's a lot of disguised payoffs to a lot of Democrat politicians in order to get the needed permits to go ahead with- or continue- building.
Take a look at this part of the interview where Biden talks about china
My god. I can't believe his handlers will let these interviews go on much longer.
Watching "Jeopardy" is a good way of realizing that you are pronouncing words incorrectly. Not only Russian or Chinese but British names can throw you for a loop. I amused a journalist acquaintance in DC once by pronouncing Alexander Cockburn's name the way it is spelled rather than "Coburn." Since the journalist knew and detested nasty lefty Cockburn, he thought my pronunciation was more fitting, but corrected me nonetheless.
Of course, I am assuming that Alex Trebek always gives us the correct pronunciation.
meanwhile
The poll noted an increase in the percentage of Americans who see too much bias in ostensibly objective reporting as a "major problem." According to the poll, 73 percent of Americans share that belief, up from 65 percent in 2017.
Meanwhile, a stunning 84 percent of Americans agree that "the media is to blame for political division in this country
" mispronounced the word Armageddon for years, because I had only read it and never heard it. “
That was me and “superfluous.”
Still struggle with clitorous, I was reading about it long before it was a word said aloud anywhere I hung out.
I was in Sacramento on a business trip a while back. I had some time to kill so I said to myself, "Hey, why not go down to Yosemite?" It didn't look too far and all I had to do was go down Route 49! Being from Massachusetts I had no idea how BIG California was. After several hours of driving, I finally arrived at Yosemite and it was closed for the night! So I went back up to Sonora and had a nice dinner at a little Italian place. Rested for a while and drove back up to Sacramento.
I have to say, though, the scenery was gorgeous along the way.
Can Trump drive a car? He had a drivers license from NY State that expired on 6/14/20. Check the picture to see what a difference eight years can make.
"'Yosemite' -- isn't that the awful Austrailian paste you put on toast?"
No, you're thinking of Vegemity.

MadMan: There was someone else missing at the John Lewis funeral. Three guesses and the first two don't count. It had something to do with punishing a dead man.
Mr. Biden has been chilling with Obama for a day too long. He may be weary of mixing intellect with ebonics, but that is no reason to overshadow President Trump who is determined to balance family, America and himself. I don't know much about Joe Biden, but seems he's with peer pressure to battle President Trump. At least not himself.
