"With the pandemic, there’s not that same sharing of cannabis the way there used to be. There’s the phrase 'puff, puff, pass,' and now it’s 'puff, puff, don’t pass.'"

Said Lauren Gockley, "a classically trained chocolatier... director of edibles at Coda Signature, whose product line includes truffles and 'fruit notes' (fancy weed gummies)," quoted in "You Know What Else Sold Well During the Pandemic? Weed Edibles/Pandemic anxiety and mounting concerns about vaping have helped shift sales of cannabis products" (NYT).
“People didn’t know how long this was going to last. ‘Is cannabis going to be unavailable for months?’ So people bought flowers,” [said Alex Levine, an owner and joint C.E.O. of Green Dragon]. “Flower is always the best value. It’s like buying the raw ingredients, if you will. It’s always cheaper to buy the flour and stuff to make cookies than buying the prepared cookies.”
How did they know when he was saying "flower" and when he was saying "flour"?
Tee Franklin, a comic book writer and novelist in New Jersey, makes edibles at home and often uses cannabis oil in her cooking. “Oh, baby, I make everything,” she said. “Every single thing you can think of, I have made within reason.”

That includes “an entire soul food dinner,” which she cooked for herself and her 80-year-old mother: ribs with homemade cannabis-infused barbecue sauce, mac and cheese made with cannabis butter, and baked beans and collard greens cooked with cannabis sugar....
Yikes!
Ms. Franklin...uses a walker, but she said she can move better and stand for longer because of the relief cannabis provides her. “I’m not as slow,” she said. “I’m not the Flash, but I got a little pep in my step, and that’s all from marijuana. It helps with depression, anxiety, stress... There is no way on God’s green Earth that I would be able to deal with the coronavirus and the protests of George Floyd and just me being a Black woman, period, there’s no way.... Dispensaries are an essential business... It’s a drug-dealing business that is owned majority by white. But the Black people who were doing the same thing are locked up. The brown folks, same thing, they’re locked up. That’s the only thing about this whole weed business that I am not of fan of... That’s the only thing. Everything else, I am for it. I’m for it.”
Okaaaay. Elsewhere in the NYT, I'm seeing "The Best Drinks in Life Are Frozen/Slushy, boozy cocktails are perfect year-round." Slushy, boozy... that's what's presented as breezily nice for the New York Times readers... when they're not chomping marijuana edibles.
(The prepared slush... sits nicely in your freezer for a few days, covered, should your socially distanced gathering be limited to one guest.)
Yes, these articles are addressing people who are indulging in substances alone. It's a sad business, boosting spirits of people who have nowhere to go by making the ingestion of substances seem like some sort of party when it's only one person.

ADDED: "It’s a childhood memory. It was exciting to get Popsicles and ice cream for a treat as a kid. As an adult you can have that same frozen feeling — in a cocktail." That is just sad. Lost childhood PLUS the desire for "that... frozen feeling."

In VT everyone thought they'd become wealthy weed barons but now they grow too much. Prices can't drop low enough to find the market clearing price. With the glut everyone just consumes their own crop.

One problem weed apparently can't solve is the S/D curve.

There’s quite an observation hidden in there—when weed dealing is illegal, it mostly attracts black people. Once it becomes legal, more white people become interested. She’s saying white people are more likely to follow the law. She has a problem with that.

The Marijuana Maintenance Program (which we ridicule in our 12 step recovery meetings) seems to be all the rage. To paraphrase another commenter, is there anything pot can't cure or make better? I don't doubt it has some medicinal purposes (pain relief), but this "pot cures all" routine is another "Knives over Forks" vegan fallacy.

I could never smoke it (or cigarettes) as I cannot inhale. It was a physical thing that resulted in hacking and trouble breathing, not quite like Bill Clinton, but...

This post sounds like an a screed from the Woman's Christian Temperance Union. The main fear of pot smoking is that it turns people into libtards. Pretty soon after imbibing, they will be supporting equal rights, wearing masks in a pandemic and having wet dreams about AOC.

Of course, my two of my best friends who are loyal and regular cannabis flower smokers are avid gear-head, gun nuts, hunter-angler, blue collar Trump supporters and avid Ted Nugent fans. So I think your fears are just sober paranoia.

I didn't think that the lack of sharing was due to stinginess or resource impacts but to the fear of spreading Coronavirus via saliva. Solution to that is to roll everybody their own joint, which my father describes as "Brooklyn style."

Glorifying substance abuse as a justification for the continuing shutdown and isolation regime response to the pandemic. Sad is right. Immoral and obscene too.

And because we cared about trade-offs we were called idiots?
And were told we didn't care about grandma?

I remember.

Why not just use heroin? If you can afford it (and don't need to rob banks to support your habit) it will ease all you physical and emotional pains.

If heroin was legalized and dispensed in non-overdose amounts wouldn't it help people who are suffering?

What could go wrong?

Sophisticated New Yorkers used to consider dry martinis and Scotch and water the best drinks. You know, those were grown-up drinks, drinks you were supposed to develop a taste for after you passed through the Mai Tai phase of early adulthood. "Real men" disparaged umbrella drinks as being for sissies and girls. But now that we're in an age of eternal pissy adolescence, it's no wonder that spiked slushees are popular.

Imagine Dorothy Parker or Bogart slurping up some Popsicle drink.

I'm not so sure it was solely for pain relief but also as an anti-nausea remedy. I.e. cancer patients undergo chemo/radiation and many can't eat because of it. THC causes 'the munchies' in many people so it helps them eat and not waste away...

Funny how we get articles in the MSM about the health effects of alcohol, but Marijuana is just a harmless "fun" drug, that never hurt no one, no how. I wonder how many NYT Corporate Execs and writers got in the ground floor of "Big MJ", and making money off it.

Lots of ER admissions for MJ use, and we'll see the massive health impact 20 years from now. Of course, if we elect Biden, maybe we'll legalize Heroin and Cocaine. He didn't disagree with Mayor Pete on drug legalization. Anyway, lets keep healthy by staying the basement with our mask on, and smoking some weed.

Can you imagine dropping in on someone who lives that model life, and spending a few hours with him, her, or them? Think of the cool conversation you'd share.

And, if you got that out of the Sunday Times, Ms. Althouse, then you too know that there were people making those boozy slushies Sunday morning or maybe even Saturday night. Because they get their paper early and do everything they read in it!

That was amusing to me as stores were locked down all over california that the weed and vaping stores were seen as "essential services" while many other businesses where not. Like promoting and allowing BLM marches over churches the authorities signaled this covid thing was all hype. They let their ass show by making this a priority.
