Or was it?
The quoted paragraph is the beginning of a Vanity Fair article by Peter Hamby — "'TRUMP COULD NOT BE MORE ON THE WRONG SIDE': NEW POLL SHOWS TRUMP’S BLACK LIVES MATTER PROTEST RESPONSE COULD COST HIM 2020/Exclusive polling suggests the protests changed Americans’ minds so quickly, and so profoundly, that Trump planted himself even further on the wrong side of public opinion than previously understood."
Trump is even more wrong than anyone could possibly even ever imagined. Imagine all the journalists straining to imagine even more dire visions of defeat for Donald Trump. One thing you don't need to imagine is the past, and I remember 2016, and all this histrionic talk about the magnitude of Trump's looming loss is just too reminiscent of the lead-up to his mind-blowing victory.
Now, to be fair to Vanity Fair, there is some elaborate polling behind that headline:
Shortly after the killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis on May 25, the Democratic research firm Avalanche went into nine battleground states—Arizona, Colorado, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Georgia, North Carolina, Iowa, and Pennsylvania—to measure how segments of Americans were reacting to the protests. Unlike most pollsters at the time, Avalanche surveyed two large back-to-back samples of 6,986 registered and unregistered total voters—one on June 1 and a second on June 10 and 11—allowing it to track how sentiments changed during what might have been the most consequential chapter of the protests. Like most polls, Avalanche found widespread support for the protests by June 11, with 68% of respondents saying the protesters were “completely right” or “somewhat right.” But rather than measuring responses by self-identified partisanship—Democrat, Republican, independent—Avalanche measured by vote choice. It organized respondents into five segments: Vote Trump, Lean Trump, Mixed Feelings, Lean Biden, and Vote Biden....Read the details at the link. However people answer polls, I tend to think that we want order. Opposing police brutality is an aspect of the desire for order, so if you interpret the poll question to mean do you want an end to police brutality, nearly everyone will say yes. But the same desire for order would lead you to want to the violence and property destruction to be under control.

The protests have changed quite a bit since June 11th, and it's not hard to imagine the public's opinion of them has changed as well. Their assertion that the first two weeks of June "might have been the most consequential chapter of the protests" is questionable, especially in regards to the consequence of public opinion.
These people are going to stroke out when Trump wins about 40 states.
Of course early on most people supported the protests. Everyone was horrified by the killing of George Floyd. We were united. Then the radical leftists of antifa (Spell check wants to change antifa to antics, and I want to let it) and BLM hijacked the protests and turned them extreme and violent. No longer were they about George Floyd. They became about destabilizing society in pursuit of nihilistic ends.
Enough time has passed that they could have polled again July 11 to get a much better sense of how people felt about the mostly peaceful protests (to which someone on my twitter feed quipped, “I got pregnant on a mostly sex-free day”).
I strongly suspect that all these articles are greasing us up for a MASSIVE cheat by Democrats in counting the vote. It's their best chance, and I cannot see how they will not take it.
Citizens of Chicago, New York, Baltimore, Portland, Seattle, St. Louis, Detroit, Milwaukee, New Orleans, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, Cleveland, Indianapolis could not be reached for comment.
There is a civil war brewing. The polls won't see it coming.
Trump won re-election in the summer of 2019 when he tweeted about the Squad, that their vile lies and anti-American policies "...shall not be allowed to go unanswered." And then he answered their vile lies and anti-American policies. And continued to do so with them, the Democrats, the presidential candidates, and the press, as well as China, Russia, North Korea, Iran, Venezuela, and even Germany and the EU.
Trump won re-election by supporting the idea that America is good, not bad. Pretty simple, really, when you're looking to lead the nation.
Trump lost reelection after Charlottesville. If you look at the 538 average approval he never really recovered.

Bold stance considering that outside a small coterie of delusional leftists, no one thinks about Charlottesville at all.
Trump knew that the Floyd killing on TV was the signal for the pre-staged attack Army paid to enact a demonstrations as a cover to conquer the Soros run Dem cities that each willingly surrendered as planned. What Trump also knew was that the Army of insurrection’s True goal was taking over the White House in DC and burning it down while Trump ran away and hid.
The National Guard being staged by Trump to enter that fight caused an overnight rethink. But the reactions to that planNed conquest have exposed who supports Our President and who are still in on the plot to remove him. And Trump laughed.
"We, as Democrats, have a really bad habit of bringing facts to an emotional battle and getting our asses kicked,” said the pollster.
Then where is your data table showing us any facts?

Trump's "infamous march?" Come on, man! Give me a break
That the killing of George Floyd is laid at the feet of President Trump must be considered quit a propaganda coup for the democrats seeing how Floyd was killed in a democrat stronghold (*) and the subsequent 'protests' are almost all in areas of democrat 'systematic racism'.
(*) 'democrats are getting away with the 'murder' of George Floyd' Botox Nancy would probably say if she were a Republican
ARM Believes Trump praised the bad people in Charlottesville. Funny that. But revealing. Very.

How accurate can all these polls be when they're scraping the bottom of the barrel like that?

Obama and President Trump have exactly the same approval ratings at the last poll. A fawning press propping an incompetent half black, dilettante.vs President Trump has reduced the press to normalizing conspiracy theories, and telling lies to hide his historic accomplishments.
But people that are easily led by nose believe that President Trumps approval ratings mean something, when Obama's did not.

I'm glad ARM is an adult, because it seems wrong to relish the beating of a child.
Progressive journ-o-listers sure like the myths they conjure. Soon we’ll be reading that Trump sent the 10th armored division to clear Lafayette Park with tanks in orde to steal that Bible he held up. But seriously, Trump better clean house in the Joint Chiefs/DOD/FBI after the election. He’s got a lot of disloyal Vinman-types still lurking close to the CIC.

What is interesting to me, is that many of us knew that AntiFA and their urban violence was the next thing queued up by the left, after CVD-19, in their plan to keep the country off base until the election in Nov. what we didn’t expect was that George Floyd would die in police custody, and that he would be black. I expect that the inner cities would have exploded anyway within a couple of weeks. They had been preparing all winter and spring, getting ready for their summer of riots. You almost got the feeling that they were chafing under the leash that they were controlled by. And I think that the big riots were planned for the conventions, and esp the Dem convention, reminding everyone of 1968, esp knowing that their riots would be shut down much more quickly in Republican cities, and Dem controlled ones. Then Floyd died, BLM and AntiFA came together, and Dem controlled inner cities exploded around the country.
PDJT shut down the Chinese consulate in Houston this week. I think they had to be out by yesterday (Friday) It made news because the Houston fire dept was called in because the Chinese were burning massive piles of paper in their courtyard.
Most of the reports said it was because of industrial espionage and IP thievery.
I did see one report, that I now can't find, that said that the Chinese were financing the riots out of the consulate and that this was the real reason for the shutdown.
I did find this, though:
“The People’s Republic of China has engaged for years in massive illegal spying and influence operations throughout the United States against U.S. government officials and American citizens,” State Department spokeswoman Morgan Ortagus said in a statement.
Emph added
"Influence operations" could mean a lot of different things. It could mean supporting the riots. It could mean interfering in our elections.
It would be interesting to see more detail about what the State Dept means by "influence operations"

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF/CNN) — A Chinese researcher, wanted on visa fraud charges and being harbored inside San Francisco’s Chinese Consulate, was arrested by FBI agents and was being held in Sacramento, authorities announced on Friday.
I thought I had read that the FBI raided the consulate yesterday to take the alleged spy. That seems like it would be a fairly major diplomatic incident.
Looking at the stories just now, they all say just that the spy was arrested at the consulate.
Does that mean that the Chinese just gave her up? Or does it mean that the FBI entered the consulate without invitation to arrest her?
It could mean either, the way it is written.
Pretty serious stuff, either way.

Shortly after the killing of George Floyd ...
Floyd died of ventricular fibrillation.
His body filled with heart-affecting drugs, he became very stressed when he was caught using counterfeit money. He knew he was going to prison for the rest of his life.
His heart rhythm became erratic and so he became dizzy and short of breath.
The ventricular fibrillation caused sudden cardiac death.
Probably Floyd lived a few minutes longer because the police immobilized him and stopped him from thrashing around.
Sorry folks but ARM has a point. Charlottesville was when the “fine people” hoax began. It’s been very damaging, as those (like ARM) who repeat the lie know perfectly well. That's why Biden founded his campaign on that lie.

Personally, I"m hoping for Trump's victory. I'm hoping the American people aren't gong to elect a senile 78 y/o coot who sits in the basement with a mask on. And that they aren't going to reward the Democrats and the Press (the same thing) for their disgusting outrageous behavior over the last 3.5 years. Or that they will vote for the Democrat's insane policies that will give us open borders, no immigration laws, Amnesty, $500 Billion for Climate change, war in the middle east, bad trade deals, etc
But...Most Americans are cold-stone stupid. And they always have been. That they would reward villainy and damage their own families future out of sheer laziness and stupidity won't surprise me.
The corrupt left and the corrupt left media have done everything they can to destroy Trump.
Even importing a virus just in time to destroy the economy. (what! that's just a happy coincidence!)

""We, as Democrats, have a really bad habit of bringing facts to an emotional battle and getting our asses kicked,” said the pollster."
I'd bet the house this pollster believes Trump colluded with Russia.
Ordinary Americans don’t mind protests, even when they disagree with them, but ordinary Americans hate riots and destruction. The blatant lie by the media that these riots are peaceful protests is making things worse. The other major factor feeding the resentment of ordinary Americans since June is that — regardless of whether these are protests or riots — the media is giving all participants a pass from the lockdown/ social distancing requirements. Democrats and the media underestimate the anger and resentment of ordinary Americans who have cancelled weddings, funerals, graduations, hospital visits, and church services while trying to be good citizens by following the rules.
He has failed a lot since then but that was where a lot of undecideds decided.
ARM is following his script. The Discovery ID channel, which is the only TV I ever watch (We call it "The Murder Channel), has a special next Sunday about the staged car incident in Charlottesville. Needless to say, I will not be watching but the timing is significant and ARM is part of it. This act 22 or 23 in the myth of TrumpHitler. I don't know if ARM is paid for this spamming but lots of people are. ARM may just be a useful idiot.
I agree with Dave Begley that Trump should win 40 states but the fraud factor is hard to judge. I am worried about Arizona.
As for Floyd, he died of a drug overdose and a fair trial will result in acquittal of all four officers. That will only happen if Trump wins.

This has got to be coming from the same delusional bunch who've been wanting to know why Second Amendment supporters haven't come out and defended the rioters against Federal "overreach" in Portland? (Larry Correia has an epic rant about this.)

The Antifa creation of an abortion zone designed to entrap their prey to progress a narrative and national campaign, which concluded with the abortion of one of their own? That Charlottesville? A predecessor to the protests, abortion zones, and democratic governance that have plagued our cities and communities now. The leftists have tried executing the same maneuver with police but with less effectiveness. For example, in Miami, the terrorists targeted a police vehicle, but the officers were trained, and their colleagues were able to reach them before BlackLivesMatter's plans could progress and bear bodies.

I just got a new t-shirt for my birthday. The message is, “Make Orwell fiction again.” We live in Democrat country, so most people here will be too ignorant to get it. Too bad. This blog post seems to me reflective of our Orwellian era. Riots good. Democrat facilitators good. Safe streets bad. Trump bad.
A couple of relevant favorites:
“War is peace. Freedom is slavery. Ignorance is strength.” — 1984
“Dont you see that the whole aim of Newspeak is to narrow the range of thought? In the end we shall make thoughtcrime literally impossible, because there will be no words in which to express it.” — 1984
I don’t recall seeing any protests against racism and police brutality this year. There have been nonstop riots against wypipo, law and order, property rights, freedom, justice, and America.

Then we were told Trump had no path to 270 as a candidate and could never be elected.
Then we were told Trump would not make it to his own inauguration.
Then we were told Trump would be out of office within 3 months.
Then 6 months.
Then 9 months.
Then 12 months.
Then 15 months.
Then 18 months.
Then 21 months.
Then 24 months.
Then 27 months.
Then after Mueller testified in July of 2019.
Then 36 months.
Then after Trump was impeached on a hoax. (Schiff's/Fiona Hill's follow up ukraine hoax after the dems/Igor Danchenko/Steele/Fusion russia collusion hoax)
Then we were told Trump would lose renomination after being abandoned by "republicans" who "wanted to win".
Then we were told Trump would resign and let Mike Pence run.
Now we are being told Trump lost everything so very, very long ago.

Biff: "I wonder what Trump's approval ratings would be if he received merely neutral press coverage without editorial slant, rather than openly hostile and contemptuous 24x7 coverage."
Interestingly enough, I think an argument could be made that if the legacy media hadn't gone full antifa/marxist and instead made a 33% effort at "balance" and being logical and reasoned that Trump's poll numbers might actually be lower than they are as the legacy media, when it did criticize Trump, would appear more legitimate and, MOST importantly, the media would not have jumped on so many incredibly stupid and transparently false and laughable narratives just to fill up the 24 hours news cycles.
I recently read a long article about the Entebbe Airport plotters which artlessly wondered whether a similar set of elements - powerful Communist-state actor using anarchists, Communist financed training camps for anarchist / terrorists in small states dominated by a powerful Communist state - would ever emerge again. The idea is that anarchists and nihilists are ever ready to take money and training from formally organized Communists because the anarchists need an outside organizer to actually get anything done and the formally organized Communists are ever ready to use the anarchists because they expect to use the divisions the anarchists foment in free nations while later on wiping out the anarchists. Naturally, the Communist state knows who the anarchists all are and where they are operating. "Houston, we have a problem?"
Those polls are over a month old. At the time the majority of the population still believed the riots had something to do with black lives so were not willing to say negative things about them. But when our store put plywood on our windows to prevent damage from rioters both the employees and customers had a very negative reaction to the possibility that their neighborhood could be targeted. Now almost two months later we know the riots have nothing to do with black lives. Do you really think that the majority of voters in the US have positive feelings when they see what is happening in Portland and want it to come to their city? Trump is on the side of the majority of Americans when he says this can not continue.
As for Charlottesville, most people will have no idea what your talking about. It was years ago and most people are not obsessed with politics. The safety of their family, home, and city is much more important.
“But...Most Americans are cold-stone stupid. And they always have been. That they would reward villainy and damage their own families future out of sheer laziness and stupidity won't surprise me.”
All true. But the Democrats did something so egregiously stupid and contemptuous of the average American, that even the oiliest MSM attempts to spin it only served to further enrage those Americans. After months of lockdown and demonization of lockdown protesters, the Democrats pols said it was all cool that masses of people gather to loot and burn.
Even the most apolitical people I know, non-voters who tend to casually despise GWB and view Obama with mild humor, instantly reacted with furious mockery of the Donk clowns (looking at you, Jay) and vowed to vote for Trump. A small anecdotal sample, yes, but notable for the uniformity of the reaction. Reasonable to think it was broadly replicated.

George Zimmerman was acquitted in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin, during Obama’s second term when the president no longer had any electoral concerns. Moreover, the Department of Justice subsequently declined to pursue civil rights charges against Zimmerman. So much for Trump being the last bulwark against progressivist injustice.
I might not disagree with you on the George Floyd case evidence, but you make it completely impossible for me to agree with you when you add the Trump toadyism.
Anyone notice how many blacks are appearing on Fox News to attack the BLM movement?
Back during the Ferguson incident you didn't see that. Today you can see Larry Elder, Leo Tyrell, John McWhorter, Thomas Sowell, Shelby Steele, Robert Woodson, Candace Owens, and others.
(Meanwhile, Juan Williams is still standing around with his thumb up his butt)
One of the reasons these folks are speaking out it that they have seen how Antifa's white rich kid radicals have hijacked what began as a protest against police brutality, and turned it into an attempt at a violent Marxist revolution.
IOW whites have brushed aside blacks to get what *they* want---same as it ever was. Demanding racial justice is one thing, but seeking to remake the country under a Marxist dictatorship isn't what most blacks want.
Of course early on most people supported the protests.
'Early on', like...long before they began, months before they began, months before Floyd, myself and others here predicted riots. Maybe some of us got the location wrong- Milwaukee seemed the most logical place. But the riots were coming. It's an election year, and some of us are accustomed to the recent cycle of 'take it to the streets'- Occupy...
It takes too many contortions to conclude they are spontaneous uprisings. With so many peddled hoaxes...hoaxes concocted in the think tanks of leftie law firms and PR firms...anyone who thinks these aren't stagecraft looks more than a bit daft...to be gentle about it...

Neither Nazis, nor neo-Nazis, nor socialists generally.
He recognized the historical interest on one side and the desire to cleanse that history on the other.
“Exclusive polling suggests the protests changed Americans’ minds so quickly, and so profoundly,”
Um, no. That simply doesn’t happen. Anywhere. Ever. And it sure as hell doesn’t happen against self-interest.
For 3 years, I saw this one a lot: that's how you get more Trump! every time deplorables were deplored, wrongthinkers defenestrated or deplatformed or long held norms violated, traditions defied or icons smashed. Now progressives have turned the "that's how you get more Trump" dial to 11, and some Trump supporters are going wobbly, wondering whether this in fact is how you get rid of Trump? As long as voting remains private and fraud can be kept to historical levels, e.g. no mail-in voting, no matter how much Trump and his supporters are demonized and pro-Trump opinions ostracized, this is indeed how you get more Trump. There may be some folks who voted for Trump in 2016, but are so fed up with being outcast or afraid of being outed and outcasted, but I can't imagine these lily-livered losers will the be dispositive bloc in the next election.
Chaos, especially manufactured propagandistic chaos designed to intimidate, is scary, but it's not a tiger you want to try to ride. We are witnessing the desperate grasping struggle of the elites to protect their status and power, and they've shown they're willing to ruin the country if that's what it takes to run it. If Trump is in actual jeopardy of losing in November, rather than these polls being part of a narrative orchestrated to demoralize Trump supporters and excite his opponents, then I need to go back to the drawing board and get some new models for how the world works.
When I see a poll indicating a dramatic swing in public opinion, and the pollsters or journalists writing about it talk about it like they've discovered something big, it reminds me of the hapless Goldman Sachs economist during the 2008 financial crisis on tv talking about how we're seeing 6-sigma events multiple times a week. You poor souls: if your model is telling you something impossible, then it's not reality misbehaving, it's your model, dumbass. Public opinion doesn't turn on a dime, and measurement by poll is almost comically complex, with various adjustments that must be made based on predictions about the 2020 electorate. There are people who practice this ethically and conscientiously, and even they are mostly wrong. But most of the polling discoveries are torturing data to fit a narrative, THE narrative. If your data is telling you something unprecedented is taking place, odds are you fucked up.
The big question: is there going to be another coup attempt before November? I count at least 3 so far: the Russia Hoax, Ukraine Impeachment Hoax and now the coronavirus-inspired seizure of power by (largely) Dem statehouses and municipalities, dispensing with our Constitutionally guaranteed rights in an effort to establish a new normal in which we are docile and compliant and stripped of our ornery individuality. So we've either had a continuous rolling coup, or three distinct attempted coups, with one still ongoing. Will this take us all the way to the November election, or will internal Dem polling get them so worried that they'll need a new pretext for destroying norms and forcing compliance and knocking Trump onto his heels? I think we should all be braced for at least one more crisis before the election, and I also suspect that holding Ghislaine Maxwell in federal custody is somehow a deadman's switch/poison pill to ensure that many of the elite leadership class will go down with Trump in the next escalation.
You can't be too paranoid nowadays.

Link?
Where does Snopes take the side of defending Trump on his multiple statements on the Charlottesville violence? Let’s remember that the essential dispute is that Trump’s critics complained that Trump said that there were good people on both sides. Which was true. Trump did say that. Then Trump fans like Steve Cortes and Scott Adams claimed that because Trump at one time in one of his five or more statements on the subject of Charlottesville had condemned white supremacy, it was the one and only last word on the subject. But there were at least five times that Trump made extended remarks about the subject, and Trump repeatedly made unclear, equivocal, and even supportive statements about groups of people for whom the only fair description was that they were white supremacists. Essentially the only theoretical defense of Trump’s remarks would have been the existence of fair-minded people who were not racists but who were present at racist rallies and events because of earnest and fair-minded resistance to the removal of Confederate monuments.
Now I know that such people exist, but Donald Trump did not see those people on his television because they were not there, and the people who were on television were white supremacists.
For now, we don’t need to resolve this dispute and I expect we never will. My simple question remains, where is it that Snopes took the Trump side in defending his remarks?
Link, please.
During the first week of rioting in Chicago, people were really intimidated, everyone in my neighborhood removed their American flags. Everyone was scared that the protesters would target them next, but they have become less scared.
I think that most people initially supported the protests, but stopped supporting them due to their violence and stupidity, and that many people now blame the protesters for the damage they caused. I would imagine that most people's feelings about the protests/riots have changed since early June.

But liberal sensitivities, since they don't always show sensibilities, are always offended. So, losing sense of proportion, they see "The End" just when the movie's getting started. To use yet one more metaphor, the "big reveal" comes on 3 Nov.
