"U.S. Olympic team boxer Virginia Fuchs will face no punishment for failing a doping test after the U.S. Anti-Doping Association determined the violation had been caused by..."

"... two substances transmitted by her boyfriend through sex.... 'While the World Anti-Doping Code requires that this no-fault finding be considered a violation and be publicly announced, we strongly believe this case and others like it, including meat contamination and prescription medication contamination cases, should be considered no violation,' [USADA CEO Travis] Tygart said. 'We will continue to advocate for changes to the World Anti-Doping Code so that where there is no intent to cheat and no performance benefit, an athlete should not face any violation or unnecessary public attention.'"

Doing the reporting the NYPOst won't do

"Fuchs, 32, tested positive for the letrozole metabolite bis-(4-cyanophenyl)methanol, as well as GW1516 (GW501516) metabolites, GW1516 sulfone and GW1516 sulfoxide, as the result of an out-of-competition urine sample she provided on February 13, 2020."

Woman Boxing has to be the most absurd sport ever. I won't even call it a sport. More like a spectacle or freak show, similar to Women weightlifting and Women Wrestling. Who watches it? Certainly not most women.

The newsworthy part of the story is that they're now allowing no-fault findings. The universal rule in sports drug testing had been that you are responsible for everything.

To be honest, it will probably open up a can of worms. Everyone has an excuse, many are even quite good.

Scene: An attractive woman and man are standing by the front door of a home--the woman wearing a coat having just arrived. The man asks the woman if she has picked up protection and she says "Yes!" and hands him a face mask as she puts a face mask on herself.

@rocean - I find female boxing to be very odd compared to men's boxing. Even when the women really land a punch, their lower body mass allows the opponent to "take" the punch with less effect (affect?). So a clean jab just doesn't rock the ladies like it does the men.

I find that, like with women's basketball, it helps if I think of it as an entirely different sport and enjoy it that way.

Except here her "boyfriend" appears to be a postmenopausal woman with breast cancer.

She almost certainly uses steroids or something similar, like letrozole.

Okay, so i went over to you tube, and watched some women's boxing....
what the?
It was like watching bad computer animation. They'd hit the other woman 10 or 15 times in a row; but the other woman wouldn't even flinch. It was like NONE of the hits seemed to DO anything (like bad computer animation).
I'm Sure, that they DID do something (one of the chix got pretty bruised up); but when you watch REAL boxing, it's like watching a train wreck... Each punch seems to be able to destroy whole cities.
so, Serious question
a) do any of you Actually enjoy women's boxing?
b) why did they ever get rid of 6x6 girl's basketball? now, THAT was entertaining!

This tells me that the testing limits cover VERY small amounts or the boyfriend was injecting steroids directly into his testicles.

"Why would the boyfriend be taking this drug?"

Supplementing testosterone produces excess estrogen which is reduced by the letrozole.

JJ Mack ayon kay ...

For those wondering why the boyfriend would be taking an aromatase inhibitor:

"After a cycle of using anabolic steroids, your body’s natural testosterone levels will be low, sometimes taking months to recover.

During this period, if you want to maintain your gains and avoid side effects, including breast tissue development, you need to implement a proper plan.

By blocking an enzyme called aromatase, which converts testosterone into estrogen, aromatase inhibitors can reduce available estrogen and keep your post-cycle hormone levels in check. They also prevent the development of breast tissue in men, also known as gynecomastia."

The ancient Romans had female gladiators. They are mostly mentioned along with dwarf gladiators, which shows that they were a joke, an amusing take-off on the real thing, and didn't fight to the death but just pretended. (Maybe more obvious with the dwarf gladiators, since the supply of dwarves would have been quite limited, so fighting to the death would have ended the sport quite quickly.)

I haven't really watched much women's boxing or wrestling, but will have to part ways on weightlifting. Here we have Mattie Rogers, who weighs about the same as me, clean and Jerking about 100 lbs more than I can do. It is amazing!

From my MMA watching, my observation is that fights in the women's divisions are significantly less likely to end in a knockout. It does happen, but it is uncommon to the point that it is noteworthy when it happens and female fighters that can consistently get knockouts are typically elite talent. Submissions are much more common. I suspect that their fights go to decision more often than the men, though I do not know for sure. For a while, I would use women's fights to take a break as they had a tendency to be boring, but the quantity has improved significantly recently.

I suspect that part of the problem, such as it is, is weight. In men's MMA, the heavyweight division tends to have fights that end in knockouts, often quickly, or two exhausted fighters trying to hang on until the end of the third round. If the lighter men's divisions, KOs are less common but consistently active fights are the norm. This may also explain why heavyweight champions tend to have short reigns compared to other weight divisions.

Back when the tests were only sensitive enough to catch people who were actually doping, strict responsibility was probably a good policy. But now they're looking for traces of traces of things that might give you a tiny advantage. I have no trouble believing you could fail a modern drug test by doing sexy time with someone on, say, blood pressure meds.
