Kind of interesting if you analyze this grammatically. the word "trump" is being used as a verb. So the word "trump" is actually describing the action of defeating hate. So the word is actually employed as a positive and active agent advancing love. If you look at it this way, the phrase is not literally demeaning or negative toward Donald Trump.

Maybe some love is expressed, but it’s conditional on your agreement with abstractions you can’t quite understand. There’s lots of hate too, and it seems to drown out the love, so it doesn’t seem that love does trump hate.
