Madison had a pretty good housing market and it's intermittently known as a nice place to live. A couple of years from now, after the ghetto blight has really sunk in, might be a good time to buy. Maybe just before its first Republican mayor in 348 years gets elected.

And this is why I love nature. As crazy as our days are now, as nuts as the world has gotten, nature doesn't give a shit. It just keeps doing what it does. Nature is consistent. And if you know how to look around you, there is always beauty. It is the balm to a crazy world.

Asheville, NC, is a good compromise: green, mountains, four seasons, still quite safe.

Talk to Glenn Reynolds about Knoxville: college town, so a bit risky, but lots of water nearby, still fairly safe.

Colorado Springs, CO.

And, sleeper option . . . Provo, UT. Can get hot.

Ammo is getting more expensive. This isn't a concern for me. The concern is for the first-time gun buyers, who don't have experience with the lower prices in the "normal times" and might now think that shooting is a more pricey pastime than it truly is.

Dane County has 596,000 people. It is 84.9% White, 6.4% Asian, 6.4% Hispanic, 5.5% Black. It covers 1,197 square miles. 58% of its housing is owner occupied. 94% of the households have a computer. I just don't see anarchy spreading widely even in Dane County. Right in the shadow of the Capital building several hundred protesters who burn and loot with police permission can do great damage - first to businesses, then to their cause. But they are government-facilitated "anarchists", not a popular uprising. Relative to police reform, one thing you can see in the videos is that many of the police, especially the women, are totally out of shape. There's no way a fat, middle-aged woman can contain a strong young man and this problem should be addressed.

It’s interesting to be the sorta person who year after year talks about leaving but never does.

Jabber about leaving Madtown. Don’t.

Jabber about leaving blogger. Don’t

I suppose that’s typical. Planning but not doing.

I once thought (back when I could not live in a lot of houses) that I’d relocate to a new city because I wanted a change. I told everyone about my plan, I made steps toward implementation. But, I never did follow through. I got locked into work and a growing family that was taking off so I kept up the pursuit.

Anywho, now we are able to land at a bunch of houses, but we still need to be anchored for good chunks of the year. And, our base hasn’t changed because we love it.

Back to the point, I can see why Althouse wants to leave. An important part of this blog has been shitting on the failures of Madtown. But to be fair, there’s always been more images and jabber re the good things. From the backyard to the front yard to the hood to the school to the capitol to the cool businesses to the arts and art. And, now especially, the big outdoor pics. And more. Good stuff.

But that’s still not enough to overcome the libs gone wild such that Althouse is preparing to shoot someone, so where to go so Althouse doesn’t need to kill? They’ve considered renting somewhere else just to get a feel, rather than buying. Hard to argue w/ that. A lot lower risk. Especially in one of the conservative places where everything (except the people, because they’re the highest quality possible) is cheap. So you can’t lose a lot of dough if the test period doesn’t work out re a permanent relocate.

Anywho if I know anything, and that’s questionable, IMHO people matter more than places. Best to end up somewhere close to family and friends.

I dunno.

P.S.
In another thread I wasn’t totally kidding about Vancouver BC, though it may be too distant. I’ve had a place up there for a long time. I’m not sure how hard it is to buy today. But, renting for a couple years is probably doable. And, it’s more affordable and less of a stretch v going overseas for an escape.

BTW, speaking of escape, it’s interesting that cons here think that broken windows, fire bombs and toppled statutes are the concerns that could really hurt this country in the long run. That, and immigration (of course) are what we need to worry about re the long term, we are told. Presumably that’s just regurgitating the talking points of the day. Or, that’s more evidence that logic is tricky.

I dunno.

Beijing Boy: "Chinese nationals with ties to the Chinese government donated hundreds of thousands to support Trump's reelection, according to report"

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

As predicted long ago, its the russian collusion playbook all over again with "russia" crossed out and "china" penciled in.

Precisely as predicted.

Now, in the real world, this is actually happening:

"The offensive began on May 15, when the U.S. Commerce Department tightened sanctions on iconic Chinese technology firm Huawei. The company and 114 of its international affiliates already faced a U.S. export ban, implemented in May 2019 and followed by months of aggressive diplomacy intended to isolate the firm from Western markets. The new restrictions prohibit companies operating outside the United States from using U.S.-made designs or inputs to produce the semiconductors that Huawei needs for its smart phones and tablets.

Days later, Washington added a further 33 Chinese entities to an export control blacklist for alleged complicity in human rights violations or ties to the Chinese military. Concurrently, U.S. legislators tabled bills that would restrict a federal pension fund from investing in Chinese stocks, limit the ability of Chinese companies to raise capital in the U.S., and sanction Chinese officials responsible for repressing the Uyghur Muslim minority. President Donald Trump subsequently ordered his administration on May 29 to revoke Hong Kong’s preferential treatment as a separate customs and travel territory from mainland China in response to Chinese legislation that undercuts Hong Kong’s system of self-governance.

Media and analyst reactions to those measures have stressed the growing number of issues that now divide Washington and Beijing, prompting questions of whether the two powers are edging toward a new type of cold war. In fact, the moves reveal just as much about the current state of U.S. diplomacy and its unhealthy dependence on sanctions. After years of weaponizing its currency and economy for foreign policy influence, Washington is pushing the limits of America’s financial power."

No wonder Beijing has dialed up all its Beijing Boys like ARM to ramp up attacks on Trump. The ChiComs are desperate to get the empty husk and already paid for sap Joe Biden and his pro-ChiCom team elected.

Althouse wouldn't like Knoxville proper- Madison seems so much nicer (or did a month ago). Knoxville downtown is quite seedy. If you are looking for an urban environment in Tennessee that is similar to Madison, you have to go to Nashville around Vanderbilt.

In any case, Althouse also wouldn't like the weather anywhere in Tennessee- it is hot and very humid from mid June to late September. It is the kind of thing you don't get use to unless you were raised in it. However, there are lots of lake properties available pretty much everywhere around here.

Remember when we all hoped that electing a Black President would heal the racial divide?
If we hadn't done that, people would still believe it would help.
Does anyone think there is anything White people could do that would help now?

Not when we have people who would put up nooses and make false accusations that can only make things worse, and we have a media who also prefers the anger and lies. They know it hurts us all, every one of us, and they do it anyway. I wonder how many words were spent fanning the flames of the NASCAR noose, and how many explaining it was completely innocent. There was no evil White racist. You might think that would be good news to us all, but it was very disappointing to many. If you were happy to find out it didn't happen, then you are a decent person. If you weren't, what the hell is wrong with you?

The Progressive Church hoped to use statistics (e.g. lies of creation), expert opinion (i.e. sympathetic followers), and em-pathetic appeals in a strategy to exploit people's sympathetic nature to normalize Planned Parenthood including selective-child ("reproductive rites") for social progress and cannibalized-child for medical progress. Howard's definition of peaceful protests.

Protesters and rioters incensed by the death of George Floyd destroyed at least 16 memorials and statues in Boston, including one dedicated to black soldiers.

The Robert Gould Shaw and the 54th Regiment Memorial, a sculpture dedicated to black soldiers who fought in the Civil War, was damaged after thousands of protesters descended on Boston Common to protest police brutality against black people, according to Boston NPR affiliate WBUR.

“This monument is considered one of the nation's greatest pieces of public art and the greatest piece to come out of the Civil War,” Liz Vizza, the executive director of the Friends of the Public Garden, said. “It was, amazingly enough, dedicated 123 years ago on May 31 — the day it was defaced.”

I guess it is all about definitions.

Their buying the Biden family will prove a much better investment. Even though he's going to lose, look at what they already got.
