At the Sunrise Café...

... you can write about anything you want.

Meade took this picture of me looking at the sunrise at 5:24.

And let me remind you about the Althouse Portal to Amazon.

Everyone can feel it coming.

The aristocracy is taking their final shots.

Institutions are dropping like flies.

They will try to destroy our process of elections before November.

A county sheriff saw a man fishing in Lake Chelan.

He went and told him he couldn’t do that during the lockdown.

The man was from Stehekin. He hadn’t even heard of Coronavirus.

He was dismayed that he was not allowed to sit in the middle of a lake all by himself.

Jay Inslee is not a legitimate leader. He is a lawless occupier.

The Leftist Collectivists believe they are ascendant.
Meanwhile, polite left-leaners are worried enough for their own physical safety that they use firearms for the first time.

Will somebody please square this particular circle?

The facts seem incongruous.

Assumptions worth questioning
There will be an election this fall.
If there is an election it won’t be almost all mail and harvested.
Trump can win a mail in election.

States control the elections. So much will depend on the Democrats internal polling. If, as now, Trump is getting crushed you might have a real election. But if Trump pulls ahead, these assumptions might not hold.

We're not doing the TV show thing anymore.

But I've started re-watching Lost on IMDb on Amazon Prime.

Jack is still an ass. And Michael is still a psychopath - and it's still season one.

This is one of my favorite of your pictures - the details of the curving track to the left and its slightly less curved sibling to the middle, the color scheme, the ONE INDIVIDUAL at the shore - all good.

That being said, I was disappointed when I learned a day or two ago that your phone camera is giving us modified colors, and not tracking the real colors. That was sort of sad to learn, reminded me of that time when I found out that the Three Stooges were actually not dumb but smart, and that it was all a LIE!

Oh well.

I miss the rats, by the way.

The fly in the ointment is that democrats have controlled this country at state and local levels for the last 50 years. They have been "kept in check" by a "free and vigorous media" as it were. How did this "systemic racism" hide from America? Who, indeed hid hide it? All these statues being trashed are democrat history being sanitized. Robert Byrd, friend to all?

I posted Wm Faulkner's dedication of one of his books to his childhood Mammy -- in the Aunt Jemima thread yesterday. It included her dates of life, 1840-1940. Long life, but still Faulkner did not write his touching appreciation of her until after she had died. I hope he told her a lot more than that while she was living. We so often wait until a person has passed away before speaking up about how much he or she meant to us. Why be shy? What good does it do after he's gone? Say it now. Say it now.

“ Pistol packin' mama, lay that pistol down.”

That was my partner’s mother. Her husband called her “Annie Oakley”. She grew up the daughter of a cowboy, and was a crack shot by the time she graduated from HS. My partner grew up in Las Vegas, and her mother would throw her five kids in their station wagon and tour the southwest, camping every night, to get them out of the Vegas summer heat. She always carried several loaded handguns, as well as a .22 rifle and pistol, that she used to teach her kids to shoot with.

My partner liked the shooting, and the long trips, but one of the things that she never could accept was using Indian toilet paper. Her two sisters were fine with it, but she was the prissy one, with a very active imagination, so started carrying her own TP at an early age, which she continues to the present.

My college roommate's mother was like that. She was great. She was his father's secretary and third wife. The only one he had kids with. She told me he took her on a camping trip for their honeymoon. She said, if she thought she could find the road, she would have run away. After a month, she loved it. She was women's national skeet champion in 1940. They built a custom house in Glendale CA that had one long hallway about 40 feet long. They would set up a pistol range in the house. Big gun room.
