Twitter adds a subtle correction to a Trump tweet.

Discussed at Fox News:
Within minutes, Trump accused Twitter of "interfering in the 2020 Presidential Election ... based on fact-checking by Fake News CNN and the Amazon Washington Post." The president added that the platform "is completely stifling FREE SPEECH" and vowed: "I, as President, will not allow it to happen!"

Twitter's new warning label was issued even though a Twitter spokesperson acknowledged to Fox News that Trump's tweet had not broken any of the platform's rules, and even though several experts have called mail-in balloting an invitation to widespread fraud.
ADDED: I was surprised to see that the correction didn't carry over into the tweet when it's embedded. At Twitter, it looks like this:

And if you click on the "get the facts" link, it goes here.

"Experts say mail-in ballots are very rarely linked to voter fraud." So says Twitter.

So how is this a correction? "Very rarely" is less than "substantially?"

What's "very rarely"? What's "substantially"? Who the hell judges this?

Of course mailing a ballot to everyone will lead to voter fraud; why the hell do you think the left pushes for it?

Hint: the left always pushes things, they always break rules.

I got three mail in ballots (in 3 different names) for the Democratic Primary in my state. I'm only going to vote my own ballot, but I can't see how anyone could ever catch me voting the other two. Voter fraud will continue until there is an election where it tips to balance to a candidate who is not favored by the elite media. In most elections, that is the Republican, but even in a Democratic Primary there could be an "upset" win of a non-favored candidate.

And mail in voting killed a school bond levy because mail voting is easier than trying to remember to go to the polls for a separate school election.

Carter Wood म्हणाले...

From Hans von Spakovsky and J. Christian Adams at Heritage: Anew report has revealed how vulnerable voting by mail can be. It should alarm all who are pushing for all-mail elections: Based on federal data from the U.S. Election Assistance Commission, millions of mail ballots were never counted as completed votes.

According to the commission’s 2016 report, for example, more mail ballots were misdirected and unaccounted for than the margin of votes between Hillary Clinton and Donald J. Trump. She had 2.9 million more votes, yet 6.5 million ballots were misdirected or unaccounted for by the states. In other words, for every vote that Hillary won over the eventual president nationally, more than twice as many mail ballots disappeared or went to the wrong addresses.

The data demonstrate the danger of putting the presidential election into the hands of the U.S. Postal Service, as well as the problems with inaccurate and out-of-date voter registration lists.

c. To indicate or mark the errors in: correct an exam.
2.

b. To scold or punish so as to improve or reform.
3. To remedy or counteract (a defect, for example): The new glasses corrected his blurry vision.
4. To adjust so as to meet a required standard or condition: correct the wheel alignment on a car.
v.intr.
1. To make corrections.
2. To make adjustments; compensate: correcting for the effects of air resistance.
adj.

WillowViney म्हणाले...

Given the Democrats' wet-dream of 100% mail-in voting I'm wondering if there is a way to prevent ballot stuffing while still keeping who you voted for a secret.

Here's an idea: Every voter has a social security number and a date of birth, right? So compute HMAC(SSN+DOB+Secret1)=QR using a one-way Hash-based Message Authentication Code [HMAC]. Secret1 is randomly generated by the election bureau for each ballot. Print it as a scannable QR code on the ballot (think TicketMaster).

This gives each ballot a unique QR such that no two ballots are the same, preventing duplication. The voter can later confirm that his/her ballet was indeed counted by entering in their SSN + DOB at the election bureau's website to check.

The other problem is vote tampering. Using the same basic system the voter can verify on the election bureau's website to confirm who they voted for. When the ballot is received, the voting bureau scans the QR and computes HMAC(QR+MyVote+Secret2), where Secret2 is known only to the election bureau. Do this for each political office on the ballot. The voter can then go to the website and enter their personal info to confirm that the vote was counted correctly.

You can strengthen the privacy of the system by using something like two-factor authentication where a second entity (not the election bureau) counter-signs each with Secret3.

This system guarantees privacy, prevents ballot duplication, and detects vote tampering. Or is it too easy?

does rejection mean destroyed or set aside for later (use)?
what if they come in without signature to raise any flags about not matching?
