"26% of Democrats, including 40% of those under the age of 45, said the party should select a different nominee."

"The party’s younger voters and women are less likely to view Biden’s denial as credible than older or male Democrats. 38% of all voters say elected officials should resign when facing credible accusations of sexual misconduct, down 18 points since late 2017."

The Morning Consult reports on its new poll.

Shocker. Biden didn't receive 100% of votes during the primary.

Shouting Thomas म्हणाले...

The Dems didn’t exactly admit to rigging the primaries in the 2016 election, although they argued in court that they had the right to rig them. The court found for the Dem’s argument.

It appears that the 2020 Dem primary results are likely to be tossed out.

What does this say about the Democratic Party? Why do they bother with primary elections?

Damn good question. I've never thought much of the concept of primary elections. IMO, the party should choose their candidate. But they should do so honestly.

Can we say, after months of running: Klobachar, Warren, Bernie, Kamala, governors, Mayor Pete, other Senators and congress people --- After all this there is no one to replace BIden except Hillary? Or Michelle? Really?????

Also, a mere 3.5 years ago, all Democrats agreed that the best person to be President (should Hillary be elected and then die) was (before I write it, can you remember??) ...........Tim Kaine. I'm amazed that not one single word has been advanced about this obvious candidate as a replacement for Biden. Are democrats so wound up with families that they cannot look outside Clinton/Obama? (Then why not Carter, Mondale, Dukakis, Gore ? They all have families.)

Leland म्हणाले...

Replace Biden then Trump can talk about who the nominee was selected and not elected.

Hard to overstate the importance of this in Democrat electoral strategy. And the box it puts the Democrats in. One thing is certain if they stick with Biden. It isn't going to get any easier. The thing about the insensate attacks on Trump is that it leaves his opponent nowhere to go but down.

The Cracker Emcee Refulgent म्हणाले...

And the VP pick is irrelevant. You can always float the theory that the VP is the real nominee but the LIVs aren't going to understand it.

Biden is not a viable candidate. Either he loses his religion, self-aborts his campaign, or someone will cancel the Democrat "burden".

Indeed I did. Quite some time ago.

And now this: "New committee to 'Draft Michelle Obama' urges Biden to pick her as VP"

Michelle as the VP pick.....and Biden never makes it out of the Convention in late August.

Leaving a mere 2 months for Michelle to proclaim Trump is too horrible to even bother sharing a stage with and so debates are out with the media blowing wind into her sails the entire way.

"38% of all voters say elected officials should resign when facing credible accusations of sexual misconduct." Does anyone else have trouble with that. One reason a woman may bring a credible accusation of sexual misconduct is, of course, because the official behaved badly, but I can think of other reasons, both political and personal that might inspire her ire or malice. The good news is that the number if down 18% since the last poll. I guess Dems aren't such true and fervent believers in "believe all women"....I don't think Joe Biden deserves to have his career and reputation trashed based on this allegation which can neither be proven nor denied. And that goes double for Kavanaugh....I think this is the opinion of many Trump supporters who, at the very least, are not as hypocritical as Biden voters.

Bob Loblaw म्हणाले...

26% isn't enough to deny him the nomination, but it's enough to lose the Democrats the general election if a substantial percentage of those voters sit it out.

Bob Loblaw: "26% isn't enough to deny him the nomination, but it's enough to lose the Democrats the general election if a substantial percentage of those voters sit it out."

Multiple polls over an extended period of time show a fairly consistent 25% of Bernie bros are committed to vote for Trump or other 3rd party candidate or sit out the election if Biden is the nominee.

"38% of all voters say elected officials should resign when facing credible accusations of sexual misconduct". Who determines if an accusation is "credible"? Was the Ford accusation that in high school Kavanaugh and a buddy assaulted her "credible", even though she was able to produce NO witnesses or other corroboration that she and Kavanaugh were even in the same place at the same time? How about the "rape line" accusations? Were they credible?

I guess the only answer to my question is: The Media decides whether an accusation is "credible". The media treated the accusations by Ford and others as news, so they were "credible". Until the media started reporting about the Reade accusation against Biden, most people weren't even aware that such an accusation had been made, so then it wasn't "credible", but now it's in the news so it's a "credible" accusation, isn't it? So Biden has to withdraw? With no more evidence than one woman's statement about an event she says happened decades ago?

C'mon man! That can't be our rule. Can it?

So long as Biden is beating Trump in the polls, it will be hard to replace him. By the time Joe starts sinking in the polls it may be too late to replace him.

I used to think that if Joe were replaced the other 23 candidates in the race would demand to be the replacement, but now I think they would be running in the opposite direction. A party switching nominees late in the race is not a good sign. Nobody wanted to be George McGovern's replacement VP. They could read the writing on the wall. A party that switches its presidential nominee would have to switch its whole strategy and that's not easy to do. Swapping nominees would most likely mean picking somebody who is as clueless as Joe is.

I really doubt Michelle Obama would the nominee. She doesn't want it. Some people have to rationalize that by saying that she's just lazy, rather than that she just might have some self-knowledge and know that she's not a politician and not up to the job. Those people may be idiots, but if they get to the right conclusion, the reasoning doesn't matter so much.

Down 18%, eh?

24.2% of the 18% are government employees with six-figure pension accounts.

10.7% of the 18% are Democrats on the ballot in November.

And 65.1% are women with "handmaiden" bonnets in their handbags.

Agreed. Let's look at her options:

Option one: Run for Pres. Face Trump in debates and conservative scorn, repeats of "first time... adult life... proud of America". Risk losing. Four or eight years of scrutiny, second guessing (yes, even with the fawning press) and restrictions (which, reportedly she hated). Every word you utter dissected. Have to compromise to get things done. Narrow focus of what you can do with your time.

OR

Millionaire and getting richer by the minute. Celebrity adored by everyone whose opinion you care about. Able to say anything you want without meaningful scrutiny. Freedom to come and go as you please.

Why would Ms. Obama run? For the "good of the party"? Feh.

mtrobertslaw म्हणाले...

Here is the dilemma the dems face: Uncle Joe has had a burning ambition to be president for years. He may have memory problems, but one thing he has not forgotten is the old Irish Proverb:"Don't get mad, get even". As vice president for eight years, Uncle Joe knows many things about both Obama and Hillary, things that if ever saw the light of day would destroy the political reputations of both. If the democrats drop him as their candidate, they run the serious risk that Uncle Joe will set in motion the old proverb. Whether they know it or not, they are playing political Russian roulette.
