I thought that was David Letterman in the background, mocking him, before I realized he was the ASL interpreter https://t.co/aEeUOf8djm

That would make the guy on the left a slightly husky Paul Shaffer.
He's making a list and checking it twice,
Gonna find out who's naughty and nice.
Give him a break. It’s not like the cdc is located in his state
Sad. I mean I was a below average student in the 8th grade, but...
On a side note: where can I get one of those cute unisex black vests?
All I find is supermarket red...
You should see the guy Mayor Cooper of Nashville uses. So hypnotizing that I forget to listen to what he is actually saying. I have figured out ASL for social distancing though.
Sure laugh all you want, but if you laugh outside wear a mask.
Just kidding!
Burl Ives. Have A Holly Jolly Covidmas!
Maybe that's who Letterman secretly wants to look like.
This, coupled with his appointment of insider trader, Kelly Loeffler, would normally be sufficient to make me regret having voted for the stupid SOB, but for his opponent,Stacy Abrams.
I think he will be a one term governor.
These idiotic ASL mimes as politically-correct, virtue-signaling props on these Corona news conferences seem to suddenly be a thing again. It had seemed that they were pretty much gone after the fad ran its course back when.
So, let's play along and ask who it is that the charades guy standing beside the politician is for, exactly? The TV audience? What deaf person in 2020 doesn't have closed-captioning on his TV? Or is it for the deaf people in the live audience? You know, the ones who say, "Hey, I think I'll go down to the capitol and listen to the governor speak!"
The State of Georgia is a wonderful state. Beautiful state. Great people. Great schools. Atlanta is one of the best of our larger metro areas (except, of course, for the traffic). That said, the fact that it was Brian Kemp vs Stacy Abrams for Governor speaks volumes on how the most talented, intelligent, capable people have refused to take part in politics.
Remember, he was the better of the two choices.
Whose this "we", kemosabe?
Who’s the “we” that didn’t know that? The Gov and the ASL translator? ‘Cause just about everyone else knew that asymptomatic folks could infect others.
Social contagion: smear factor.
They're French hand-gestures.
LOL!
Closed captioning is usually egregiously bad, kinda like purposely bad lip reading. Still, at first I thought maybe he was another fake ASL translator on the take, but he’s white.
Letterman retired and aged about 10 years. Guess without the makeup and the camera tricks, Dave looked like a 80 y/o Hobo.
From what I've read, Kemp is trying to appoint himself to the GA Supreme Court, after getting the pay off from Senator Wall Street.
A friend's son... He's truly a phenomena https://www.youtube.com/user/seanforbes
Bio Here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sean_Forbes
His concerts are largely deaf folks. Taught himself speech... stone deaf feels the subwoofers!
Worked with Evelyn Glennie too! His parents are the greatest.
I can’t delete my comment on my phone, for whatever reason, so instead, I’ll apologize. I should have said ASL interpreter, not translator.
I agree with Ice Nine on the idiocy of having these ASL interpreters at the all of the daily briefings. These are not urgent situations where immediate action must be taken by those watching, so why are they there.
CNN has this on signers in 2017: Phony sign language interpreter signs gibberish
Here's another from CBS in 2018: Alleged fake sign language interpreter at Mandela's memorial
Is anyone here sure that this Letterman look-alike is a real sign language interpreter?
And to stray a little bit from the topic:
And here appears LLR Chuck again, and surprise, he is attacking a Republican.
How long ago was it that we discovered that asymptotic persons could spread the disease? What study was that? I guess I missed it. The medical folks think that asymptotic persons can spread the disease, but no one knows for sure. Except LLR Chuck.
And I heard two 'doctors' being interviewed today who appear to be equally ignorant. When asked about masks, one said 'only if someone is symptomatic'. Another one said that putting on and taking off masks causes more risks than going without a mask. So the medical community is all over the map--not just ignorant politicians.
Suddenly I'm thinking of one of my governor's campaign commercials:
"Yep. I just said that."
I don't read ASL--although as my hearing deteriorates I may need to learn it.
I'm secretly longing for the day when (a) I can read ASL; and (b) I can watch one of these arm waving ASL "signers" send a message to the effect that, "This boob doesn't know what he or she is talking about". The governor/CDC head/President/Speaker of the House will blather on, while the ASL "speaks truth to power" and the boob won't even know it.
I'm still chuckling over the ASL interpreter down at one of Obama's speeches in South Africa where it was revealed that the "signer" was sending gibberish. That was probably okay--if you analyzed the content of most Obama speeches, you'd find a lot of meaningless gibberish. Hard to get competent help (or Presidents) these days. The current model is a bit of an improvement over the 2008-2016 version--but only a bit.
Current opinion at the CDC:
"Some recent studies have suggested that COVID-19 may be spread by people who are not showing symptoms."
So "everybody knows" except the Governor who must be stupid because he has a Southern accent and the CDC.
It is hard to wrap your head around the fact that if the USA mdid what S Korea or Taiwan or Hong Kong or Singapore did, we would be looking at "only" 10k or so deaths. Not sure why we were not up to the task. A lot of people failed us in both parties.
Yesterday's new release from the Taiwan Center for Disease Control:
"Lin Chia-lung, minister of transportation and communications, said all users of the country’s bus, high-speed rail and rail networks must wear masks and undergo temperature checks at stations. These measures are aimed at enhancing public health during the four-day Tomb Sweeping Festival commencing April 2 countrywide.
In addition, the eMask 2.0 system is in place and proving highly effective. From April 9, adult and children can order nine and 10 masks online, respectively, every 14 days. ROC (Taiwan) nationals are also permitted to send 30 masks abroad to direct relatives every two months.
Statistics from the CECC under the Ministry of Health and Welfare’s Centers for Disease Control reveal 329 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Taiwan as of April 1, with five deaths. A total of 838,239 cases have been identified in 179 other countries and territories."
FIVE DEATHS -- Population 24 million.
Nice to see an old white guy put some soul in his performance.
"‘Cause just about everyone else knew that asymptomatic folks could infect others."
OK. Yes. How much? How much compared to symptomatic people? At the same distance?
You may remember about a week ago, shortly after Michigan went on lock-down that I mentioned that we should watch Michigan and Sweden becuase they had similar populations, climate, number of current cases, and deaths. Sweden has locked down nothing, not restaurants, bars, nothing. Michigan now has nearly twice as many cases and over 100 more deaths than Sweden. Things could change, but we have a control group.
"It’s the first time in my adult life when it is possible to imagine totalitarianism in the West. Equally frightening is the strength of the panic-ridden ‘totalitarian outlook’. There is growing intolerance of dissent; and — as Orwell wrote in ‘The Prevention of Literature’ — people censure themselves because of ‘the dangerous proposition…that intellectual honesty is a form of anti-social selfishness’.
There are many experts in epidemiology and virology who are highly critical of the lockdown strategy. Few are willing to talk on record. There are public health experts arguing that suppression methods will kill more people than the virus. But they struggle to speak plainly, mostly out of fear of the social media mob. Many economists think it is mad to close down entire national production. But they tiptoe around their message because such opinions are threatening the mood of national cohesion."

Meanwhile, Sweden is acting more American than Americans these days.
That the interpreter was animated may be funny, but it’s no sign that he is fake. ASL doesn’t really use words like in spoken languages, or at least not as much, but relies on ideas, images, metaphors, and actions, generally the more emotive the better. Also, it’s not all in the hands, or even arms, but relies on expressive body language, and even facial expressions. I base this on my limited knowledge and experience.
It is true that a recently infected person has less chance of infecting you since their viral load is lower, and you still have to have very close contact with them. If someone has very recently been infected they are pretty unlikely to be shedding virus to infect anyone, becuase they don't harbor much virus. You could say it's hard to garner the virus from them.
Mayor Pete learned ASL so he could read a book!!
I'm guessing that Michigan has more diabetes and smokers/COPD than Sweden.
Sweden is more like the upper peninsula of Michigan. Or Michigan outside of Detroit.
If everyone in the US wore masks, the infection rate would be way down. It's not so much about protecting you, but the person next to you.
Scientific Opinion is all over on this. US made the political decision to go anti mask, due to the shortage of masks.
"Stop Buying Masks"..? Oh Wait! CDC Considers Asking Public To Wear Face Masks Zero Hedge
And my new goto site on on masks:
Masks For All
CDC may be changing their minds... WHO is still saying masks are not needed. I wonder if Who's outlook is because China bought up most of the masks worldwide (reports from Czech and Australia, and I think it was even more wide spread), and made most of the worlds masks.
"It is true that a recently infected person has less chance of infecting you since their viral load is lower, and you still have to have very close contact with them. If someone has very recently been infected they are pretty unlikely to be shedding virus to infect anyone, because they don't harbor much virus. You could say it's hard to garner the virus from them."
Actually, that would not be true:
"We analyzed the viral load in nasal and throat swabs obtained from the 17 symptomatic patients in relation to day of onset of any symptoms (Figure 1C). Higher viral loads (inversely related to Ct value) were detected soon after symptom onset, with higher viral loads detected in the nose than in the throat. Our analysis suggests that the viral nucleic acid shedding pattern of patients infected with SARS-CoV-2 resembles that of patients with influenza4 and appears different from that seen in patients infected with SARS-CoV.3
The viral load that was detected in the asymptomatic patient was similar to that in the symptomatic patients, which suggests the transmission potential of asymptomatic or minimally symptomatic patients.
These findings are in concordance with reports that transmission may occur early in the course of infection5 and suggest that case detection and isolation may require strategies different from those required for the control of SARS-CoV. How SARS-CoV-2 viral load correlates with culturable virus needs to be determined. Identification of patients with few or no symptoms and with modest levels of detectable viral RNA in the oropharynx for at least 5 days suggests that we need better data to determine transmission dynamics and inform our screening practices."

Interesting, China had people in 20 Countries shipping Masks back to China:
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2020-02-07/china-implores-employees-and-clients-to-scour-world-for-masks
I had heard about Chinese shipping them back in the US to relatives, which was the reason Chinese areas in the US had no masks, but sounds like it was more organized.
The bloomberg article mentions:
- Italy
- US
- Japan
- Singapore
I found two articles that mentioned they did the same thing in Australia and Czech Republic.
Sean Murph was pretty clever to pretend that he didn't recognize someone doing sign language so as to have a lame excuse to re-post some tripe from a third-world "gentleman in the streets".
Oh, wait, no, Sean Murph wasn't clever at all.
The signer at the Snoop Dog concert remains my favorite.
On a more intellectual level than some twittering influencer lying to get attention, here's a sheep-dog working from home.
As in the Bergman movie, it takes a while for an epidemic to reach Sweden.
What we are doing now is really dumb.
I wish we would stop being panicky and do things that would actually help with the problem.
Instead we just shut down all the stuff Boomers don't really need or care about.
If we can't or aren't allowed to laugh then virus will have won.
If asymptomatic people can spread this disease and asymptomatic people are not sneezing or coughing, then asymptomatic people can spread Covid 19 by breathing and speaking and laughing. Why are we still social distancing?
You're missing the tag, Professor: "The Era Of That's Not Funny"
Steve: "The viral load that was detected in the asymptomatic patient was similar to that in the symptomatic patients, which suggests the transmission potential of asymptomatic or minimally symptomatic patients.

I am willing to accept that asymptomatic people can spread the virus. But is this the best source thus far? (Asking seriously.) Because it sounds pretty tentative: Suggest transmission potential. May occur. Need better data to determine.
Hard to gauge relative transmission risk from reports like this.
"Are we still allowed to laugh? Because I just did."
And a new day will dawn
For those who stand long
And the forests will echo with laughter
"Does anybody remember laughter?"
"I'm guessing that Michigan has more diabetes and smokers/COPD than Sweden."
But Sweden's population is probably older. Michigan now has twice the number of cases as Sweden when they were the same before Michigan's lock down, so that's not from diabetes.
No, no laughing allowed. Further, the beatings will continue until morale improves. Until then, remain in panic condition six - plant your left foot on the ground, run around in cirlcles pivoting on your left foot, scream and shout. Contiune until furhter orders.
Need better data to determine.
Right, Sebastian. No need to take needless precautions in the interim. ;-)
Still, at first I thought maybe he was another fake ASL translator on the take, but he’s white.
White people are underrepresented as fake ASL interpreters because systemic racism.
She black
He black
He white. "Sign language interpreter used gibberish, warned of bears, monsters during Hurricane Irma update."
steve uhr: "Actually, that would not be true:"
I was obviously referring to newly infected persons, not asymptomatic people who have been infected for days. If you just got infected, you logically can't have virus shedding out of all your orifices. It does take some time to multiply.
mock: "Right, Sebastian. No need to take needless precautions in the interim. ;-)"
OK, I'll take the ;-) as a sign of your usual sanity.
Of course, we never need to take needless precautions. ;-) right back at you.
But, in general, I actually would just like a more precise, empirical answer. If there's one out there, I'd like to know -- no snark.
but those without antibodies?

"Stunning" is getting punched in the face. Or, like me, carrying the football as a slim running back and getting hit by a linebacker. Wimps are stunned by the ignorance of others.
What is a Murph? Is that the new wimpy Murphy?
Stunned is my garner. People who get stunned by comments need a punch in the face.
Doctors and researchers at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center are saying they’ve created a vaccine that can protect against developing COVID-19 and they want federal permission for human trials.
I wondered before if captions were so offensive to the Deaf culture that they really needed the signers, but it could be a cultural sensitivity thing, or an ADA thing.
Meanwhile, the more interesting thing -- or rather the more totally unsurprising thing -- is how in the Twitter comments for the underlying post they are charging the governor with not simply being ignorant and foolish, but of intentionally lying about not knowing about asymptomatic spread.
Sebastian: If someone goes to the doctor with a nasty-looking wound infection, the doctor will likely start him/her on a broad spectrum antibiotic right away. But he/she will likely also do a swab of the wound and send it to the lab for a C&S [culture and sensitivity] test, where bacteria are allowed to grow in a Petri dish with several disks treated with different kinds of antibiotics to determine which antibiotics the infection will respond to. Based on the result, which takes a few days, the antibiotic might be changed. Does this speak at all to your reluctance to take any steps until all the data are in?
The point is there are no precise empirical answers. Once it is all said and done then we will know what happened. if you want to wait for those answers it'll be too late. Until then we are immersed in a real-time exercise of making decisions in highly uncertain conditions.
it was stupid to shut down the entire economy, all at once, try doing that on the expressway, or even when you're in the air, see how that pans out, not very well,
'member - members of the leftist party GET to re-write history, right in front of you.
Speaking of laughs,, Dr Trump just told us to wear scarves while we await a CDC decision on whether or not we should wear masks.
I don't own a scarf, Doc, but I wear a surgical mask and rubber gloves when out and about on my few visits to the grocery. But I now am picking up pre-ordered groceries outside of Walmart and about everywhere else in town (Kroger, Meijers, Target, Sam's Club, Costco, and Aldi) delivered same day by Instacart. Besides, you can buy masks, but no N95 respirators, online.
Does any ASL require touching face?
Might require the visual equivalent of an expletive bleep.

Sebastian, I think you make a fair point. I'm one of those people who don't take for granted that what I'm hearing from experts is unfailingly accurate. Personally, I try to reconcile what I read and hear from those folks with what I see and experience personally.
That's why we can never have an "ideal" response to this kind of pandemic. It takes time to sort out what's going on, and more importantly what constitutes the "best" response.
It drives me crazy that politicians are acting as though we had enough information in January to make good decisions.
Kemp is a first class idiot.
To return to the theme of an earlier thread, early mandatory shelter in place, like that in California and Ohio, has better health consequences and better economic consequences that late shelter in place.
The current UW simulations suggest that the per capita death rates in Florida and Georgia will be 2.5 times higher that California and 2 times higher than Ohio. This implies that by delaying mandatory shelter in place the governors of Florida and Georgia have generated between 5 and 6 thousand extra deaths in the first wave of Covid-19, with no evident economic benefit from the delay. What's their excuse? And what's the federal government's excuse for letting them make such an ill informed and destructive set of choices?
This is amusing me at the moment, I'm very closing to laughing.
"House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., is pushing for a new stimulus bill that would roll back the state and local tax deduction (SALT) cap, a proposal that would predominantly help wealthy individuals -- including most residents in Pelosi's district and perhaps even Pelosi herself.
A 2019 report from the Joint Committee on Taxation projected that of those who would face lower tax liability from the elimination of the SALT cap -- which only affects those who itemize tax deductions -- 94 percent earn at least $100,000. The government would lose out on $77.4 billion in tax dollars, with more than half of that amount being saved by taxpayers earning $1 million or more. Those earning more than $200,000 would reap most of the balance.
California's 12th congressional district, which Pelosi represents, is among the wealthiest in the U.S., with a median income of $113,919, according to census data. The average household income is $168,456 -- meaning most residents would benefit from any significant cut to SALT.
Pelosi and her husband have a property tax liability of approximately $198,337.62 considering their two homes, a winery and two commercial properties, public records show, indicating that the couple could reap substantial benefits in the event of a full SALT repeal."
Meanwhile she's praying for us all to be safe and well. In Boston we call this sort of behavior "grin fucking".
Alright, which one of you numbskulls tested positive for assholery and got the blog quarantined?
You can't find it in our disgusting mainstream media. They would rather attack Trump and Republicans than search out the truth. No wonder no one trusts them any more.
But here it is published in the Straits Times (Singapore): Coronavirus: New study finds at least 10 patients in Singapore caught virus from those without symptoms
The Straits Times story links to the CDC and the date of the study is April 1. This confirms Georgia Governor Kemp's statement that he just learned about asymptotic transmissions 24 hours ago.
This Star Trek game is NO attempt at being light-hearted.
It is VERY SERIOUS.
Tonight's guest star -- Diana Muldaur, again. With another group of disembodied aliens.
The aliens probably wish they knew Roger Korby's aliens.
Kemp is a very sneaky politician. We don’t take him at his word. But Trump got him elected and is stuck with him.
Unlike the other disembodied aliens, these decide that they prefer bodily form after all.
Failing that, after having lived thousands of years, they are content to die.
It's important to remember the difference between those who are asymptomatic and those who are asymptotic: neither group has symtoms, but the latter is getting pretty close to the line.
Best thing about this clusterf**k? Finding out how many doofuses we in our wisdom elected to public office. This mook is #1 so far but he’s got serious competition. Tall good hair, great TV presence doesn’t mean you are smart.
Mock: "Does this speak at all to your reluctance to take any steps until all the data are in?"
I try never to get into arguments with people who respond in bad faith. I didn't think you were one of them.
Of course I have argued from the beginning, and ad nauseam, for rigorous, strictly enforced quarantine of the risk groups and behavioral adjustment by everyone else.
But especially when the MSM and the public appear to ridicule a governor on a topic that, as far as I can tell from the responses here, is by no means settled precisely, it is part of staying sane not just to take "precautions" but also to ask for just a bit more, you know, evidence, at the very least so we know whether our precautions in fact make sense.
That one I even remembered the title- Return to Tomorrow.
I don't remember the other one Muldaur was in, but I do remember she was in more than one.
No, you're laughter is a clear validation of callous and disempathetical glee. Think of the polar bears... tearing and shredding a seal across an ice sheet, with a walrus served a la mode, and a bushel of organic vegans, too, served with a nice glass of Chianti to wash them down.
Don't these people have people?
The current UW simulations suggest that the per capita death rates in Florida and Georgia will be 2.5 times higher that California and 2 times higher than Ohio.
That's just a parameter of the simulation, though. The model assumes that stay at home orders, etc save a lot of lives and adjusts its output accordingly. But I don't think there's actually much data to back that assumption up.
If there is, I would sure be interested in seeing it.
Coronavirus: New study finds at least 10 patients in Singapore caught virus from those without symptoms
The study did not eliminate the possibility that instead of pre-symptomatic transmission, an unknown source might have infected the cases, but said this was unlikely, given Singapore's "strong surveillance systems".
It was also possible that patients could have remembered wrongly the date their symptoms occurred, said the study.
Catastrophic Anthropogenic Climate ...

If laughter is the best medicine, absolutely you are not allowed to laugh.
Where's the graft in the laughter? The sense power over others deemed irredeemable? Precisely where is our ability, while laughing our asses off yet to this very day over how we treated Brett Kavanaugh, Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States of America, to be separate from those some random creator's nature has shown us to be better than?
I will say, in addition, being smart enough to ask means you're smart enough to know. I don't recommend wasting the likes of OUR time again. Unlike deplorables, some of us use our time scheming and plotting wise Communist propaganda, the only worthwhile use.
Some of these Democrats in Denver are shitting their pants with excitement of the (theirs always) power we've given to them forever and ever, without the mere hint of a fight. Proud Communist Candy Cdebaca demands nobody pay rent or mortgages because the State will, in her world as a proud Communist, destroy anybody that tries to honor the respective contract saying people do need to pay mortgages and rents.
Fuck it I'ma laugh: that **&*^ will be (^*& long before Denver or Colorado becomes Commie. COME AND GET ME COPPERS!

Crisis ought mean the rich don't pay their fair share according Pelosi and her supporters, so laughing in their face ought be the best reaction fair people afford them, ever.
Natch, I assume extreme lack of repentance and in fact hatred Pelosi had to go through these unpleasant motions which show conclusively the Democratics are the party of the rich and stupid, both either evil straight-up or opposite-of-divinely misinformed.
Sebastian, I was not only not arguing in bad faith, I was not even arguing. ;-D I was drawing a medical parallel. Some of you guys get your knickers in a knot over every imagined affront.
"Some of you guys get your knickers in a knot over every imagined affront."
OK, let's call it quits on this. But "your reluctance to take any steps until all the data are in" was simply wrong. That's all.
Anyway, I am never affronted, I am completely indifferent to the bad-faith commenters, and I can't recall responding directly to a single one. But you are not one of them, so I decided to reply. Now back to other programming . . .

Some think drunkeness is disgusting, others know what is actually worthy of the term. Pelosi and her dad and her brothers and her daughter are disgusting people that ought be entirely laughed at, their murdering griftful ways repudiated.
Courts can't do it, too corrupt. Is there any other option to rid America of these disgusting evil-makers?
I record "The Five" . Usually delete them without watching. Played some of today's program. Those people look different without professional make up. Juan's hair looking like a 1950's nightclub singer. Gutfield getting a little long also. Dana Perino seems older than I thought.

Does anything our buddy hardin says make sense now? Why wouldn't every post make more sense than not now?
Women aren't conniving grifters like the grand cunt Pelosi, but merely just concerned about who means well?
Fuck off with your white-knighting hardin, women can be as evil as the male society that properly dominates them.
