Trump endorses Tommy Tuberville — Tommy Tuberville, the opponent to Jeff Sessions in the Alabama Senate race.

IN THE COMMENTS: Larry J says: "I know some who say Tuberville's home address is in Florida, not Alabama. That wouldn't be a problem in New York where they have a history of electing people from out of state (Bobby Kennedy and Hillary Clinton) but it could be an issue here."

Interesting! I found this:

Sessions went the Romney route, grandstanding morality.

I'm surprised more college coaches don't run for Congress or governor. If they run successful programs they're usually deities.

Sessions got rolled by Deep State actors. Trump is right. On day one Sessions let the swamp render him useless when he was tasked with draining it. Trump likes fighters.

Plus Tuberville is up on Sessions in the polls against Sessions in the run-off. Trump is endorsing the eventual winner.

I know some who say Tuberville's home address is in Florida, not Alabama. That wouldn't be a problem in New York where they have a history of electing people from out of state (Bobby Kennedy and Hillary Clinton) but it could be an issue here. While there are reservations about Sessions, he has 20 years of experience in the Swamp and our other senator (Shelby) will retire in 2 years, which is good because I can't stand the guy. That said, the current polls show Tuberville has a substantial lead if you believe in polls.

Because of Sessions; we (republicans) lost a senate seat, so that he could recuse himself
What a bargain!

Ole Miss fans can never forgive Tuberville for what he did.

Ouch

Shortly after Tuberville declared a local talk radio show had him on for an interview. After he left the hosts asked Alabama fans to call in in response to the question, "would you vote for Tuberville, even though he was Auburn's coach?" Most of the callers replied that his being a former Auburn coach would not influence them in any way, "but." The but was usually some variation of Tuberville "disrespecting" Alabama in some way. What that really means is that they are still butthurt over his 7-3 Iron Bowl record. At the time I thought that there was no way that he could win the primary, but people around here are pretty pissed off at Sessions and you get the impression that he thinks he is owed the seat.

It's more complicated than that. Alabama's governor is Kay Ivey. She inherited the seat when her predecessor (Robert Bentley) resigned under investigation. Before he resigned, he appointed Luther Strange to fill Jeff Session's empty senate seat. Luther Strange just happened to be the attorney general who was investigating Bentley. Ivey was pissed about that, so she called an election to fill the seat. The Republican nominee was Roy Moore, who got the nod in part because Democrats voted for him in the primary. Roy Moore lost to Democrat Doug Jones.

Bow out Jeff. Your time has past.

My worry is the after he gets the candidacy, the monks will do a "Roy Moore" on Tuberville. Who knows what indiscretions, affairs, etc. are in his background for the Wapo types to find and sink him in the election? Anything about Sessions is already known, at least. He would have been a solid Trump voter even if he didn't man up in the AG job.

etbass म्हणाले...

Donks, not monks.

Ron Winkleheimer म्हणाले...

Sessions' attack ad against Tuberville is that he is a carpetbagger who really resides in Florida. Tuberville's attack add against Session uses a quote from Trump stating that he regretted appointing Sessions as the AG.

Ron Winkleheimer म्हणाले...

(Robert Bentley) resigned

Because he got caught having an affair with a much younger woman and was using State resources to facilitate and hide the affair. He resigned because if he didn't he was facing indictment for misuse of State funds. I sometimes wonder why people want to be the governor of Alabama since it seems like a 50/50 proposition that you'll end up in prison.

That's better odds than in Illinois.

The ad struck me as odd.

It seems to me that Tuberville acted appropriately in not venturing into politics while a Division I football head coach. It's called staying in your lane. That's a good thing.

Yes and Mo Brooks wanted to run but McConnell shut off any funding for him and Moore won the primary. I wondere3d a bit why Brooks did not run this time.

the dems will make up stuff as we discovered with roy moore, the facts were immaterial, his message is all over the place,

Larry J म्हणाले...

I wondere3d a bit why Brooks did not run this time.

Mo Brooks didn't do well outside of North Alabama in 2018, just as Bradley Byrne didn't do well outside of his home district in South Alabama in 2020. Most of the people I know are going to vote for Sessions despite their reservations. Tuberville, in addition to his questionable home of record, has been denying he said things that have been caught on recordings. This isn't a University of Alabama vs. Auburn thing. They just don't trust him. They also believe Sessions will be better for the state of Alabama and not just himself.

Wince म्हणाले...

Tommy Tuberville.

Was he the one with the purple triangle on his head who came out as gay?

Browndog म्हणाले...

Trump is a forgive and forget, let's work together kind of guy until you cross a line. Then he is your ruthless enemy forever.

The Russia/Mueller thing had a profound effect on him I think primarily because of how it hurt his family.

let's not forget Mueller was set to indict Don Jr. until Barr stepped in and stopped it.

Ron Winkleheimer म्हणाले...

Tuberville, in addition to his questionable home of record, has been denying he said things that have been caught on recordings.

Byrne took a snippet of a speech out of context and used it to accuse Tuberville of being pro-amnesty. Its obvious that he is talking about legal immigration. Not that I'm for a lot of that either.

This isn't a University of Alabama vs. Auburn thing.

In Alabama its always a University of Alabama vs. Auburn thing.

Bingo. Although it's probably worse than that.

I would guess Sessions spent a lot of time telling Trump that "Rod's a great guy, it's ok for me to leave him in charge."

Then Rod signed off on the fraudulent FISA renewal, spying on Trump, and let the "Mueller" team run hog wild.

I can't imagine any reason for Trump to trust Sessions. And I kind of like the idea that Sessions could publicly lose his future for NOT taking on the bureaucracy.

That's a good lesson to teach

Sessions is running an ad touting the fact that when he left the Trump admin he didn't write a tell all book or disparage the president.

Running against a grown man named Jeff.

Yancey Ward म्हणाले...

I think Sessions was a fine Senator, and probably would be so again, but he was a lousy choice for AG- he let the Democrats roll him the moment he took office, and that is unforgivable.

Jeff Sessions had a choice between doing the kowtow to the Deep State or supporting the President of the United States. He chose ... poorly.

Sessions was the first Senator to endorse Trump and as a Senator led the movement for the kind of immigration reform Trump favors, plus he gave Trump his right hand man on immigration reform, namely, Steve Miller, who played a key role during the 2016 campaign. I was therefore surprised and a little disappointed that Trump would not show a little loyalty in return.
