Bernie Sanders has a clothes chair.

"You know what we're talking about. The chair. The one surface in the house designated not for sitting, but for dumping laundry on when you're just too lazy to fold it, wash it, or put it away. It's a habit that haunts Americans nationwide, and evidently, it even affects the Sanders household.... The living room features wall-to-wall carpeting, shelves cluttered with knick knacks and framed photos, and a single chair piled with folded clothing and topped off with a photo that appears to be of Sanders and his wife, Jane" (Mashable).

Detected through this tweet from his son Levi Sanders:

QUESTIONS: Would Bernie Sanders just let America's problems pile up like that? Does Donald Trump have a clothes chair?

AND: Here's a NYT article from August 2018, "Levi Sanders Is Not His Father. He Keeps Telling That to Voters":
When told that he seemed less than relaxed, he replied: “I’m not stiff. I do yoga.”

Asked to define himself, he offered, “I am not a Romulan. I am not a Vulcan.” (“Star Trek!” he cried, when his reference was met with a blank stare.)

He tried again. “I am a sentient being,” he said.

Trump does NOT have a clothes chair.

MY new recliner has become the clothes chair, because our cat began peeing on my old recliner, which we had to throw away. The laundry basket, full or empty, occupies my chair when I'm not in it to keep the cat off.

We need a cat therapist. Maybe Confuse-a-Cat will help.

It's just a chair with crap in it, not a metaphor. If you need a metaphor his people could say he's prioritized fighting for the working class over putting away his stuff...

Never heard of a "clothes chair". Laundry done properly is folded fresh from the dryer and put away. Any other half-ass measure is an indication of the soon of sloth.

People that do not take pride in their appearance, who are sloppily dressed and prepared (bad haircut), who don't keep a tidy house, are not to be trusted to competently manage or run anything.

Somehow I've missed out so far on knowing anyone who has a clothes chair, much less anyone "haunted" by one. Where do these writers get these notions? Could it be that some people are more prone to haunting than others? But I fear that I am veering off topic now.

OTOH, I have known people who pile up their mail on any available flat surface and allow it to age for a while before, eventually maybe, sorting through it.

There was a case I know of where a notice of impending sale from the Sheriff's Office (due to nonpayment of taxes) was buried in the pile until almost the last minute.

Also...why is there a couch in front of what is a doorway, with no door and just a pull down shade?

IF this is his house, it is a mess. Why would you bring in people to do a photo op and not clean up first? Because you are a lazy slob.

A few years ago, my sister got a notice of a sheriff's sale of her house for non-payment of property taxes. It turned out she had been paying the taxes on her next door neighbor's house for ten years. Cook County had transposed a digit.

It's OK. It's Chicago. The taxes were probably going to Obama anyway.

"Haunts Americans" my ass.

I've never piled up clothes on a chair. If you do and you're "haunted" by it, there's an easy solution. You put the clothes away or stick them in the laundry hamper. Even when I lived in small efficiencies, I somehow was able to avoid creating unsightly piles of junk.

It's just like a liberal to make something with a simple solution a problem and then claim to be "haunted" by it.

exiledonmainstreet, green-eyed devil म्हणाले...

Next step: let's create a federal program to help the millions of Americans haunted by the piles of stuff they stack on chairs. We need to hire experts to educate them on how to fold and put clothes away. Or, better yet, we need to teach them to accept and embrace their piles of crap. Enough of this white male supremacist emphasis on "order" and "neatness" and their bigoted disdain for "slobs." Think of all those who are suffering from PTSD because they've been called "lazy pigs" their entire lives.

QUESTIONS: Would Bernie Sanders just let America's problems pile up like that?

ANSWER: He’d be too busy trying to figure out what is the optimal number of brands of deodorants to allow on drug store shelves and which manufacturers should be allowed to sell them to address any other problems. First things first!

FYI. Mrs. stevew and I are looking for a new home. Perusing listings on line I am routinely shocked and amazed by some of the photos. Clothes strewn about the place, all sorts of knick knacks on display, even the occasional unmade bed. These are not low end and run down homes either.

Yes. For heavens sake, take all the magnetic doodads off of your refrigerator and put away all the small appliances and any other items from the kitchen counters. Remove all knick-knacks and family photos and store them away, at least for photos but preferably for showings, as well.

And this affects the value of the house, how? It shows the current owners are slobs, but it has nothing to do with the house, itself. It's like people who complain about interior paint color when looking at a house - it's not exactly hard to change. Clutter is even easier: It will be gone by the time you get there.

On the other hand, I would check carefully for deferred maintenance issues. If someone is not making their bed for a photo, the odds that the furnace has been getting maintenance seem low to me.

Ah to hell with it. Can I just say some people are broken - if not all people - and that we are broken in different ways?

The lazy Sloth looks at the man quick to Anger and says: that’s not me.
The Envious green eyed one looks at the over sized Glutton and says: not fair that be.
And there on the high hill, sat Pride in all their glory, and pointed down with glee.

But upthread is right. The slothful may be the right people in some circumstances, but do not charge them with the crucial administration of affairs.

I don't care if someone is a slob in his own house. The above comments refer to someone's house being photographed, especially for a real estate listing. Why would anyone not at least tidy up? It smacks of careless disregard. If you were going to have your portrait taken, would you show up like you just got out of bed?

Actually it does. If the people living in the house are not able to do simple things like pick up their dirty clothes, or put away dishes....It makes you wonder about all sorts of other maintenance on the house and yard that they are just to lazy to do.

Leaking toilets? Mold?. Grease in the kitchen? Water damage in the laundry room? Smelly carpets from food and dog piss? Leaking sewer lines? Sprinklers in not good working condition or broke? Overloaded electrical panel? Broken dilapidated fences?

How much maintenance am I, the new owner going to have to do to fix all the crap that you have overlooked for years? What is this going to cost???!!!

If you can't be bothered to at LEAST clean up when you want people to look at your house...what other hidden horrors might there be?

mockturtle म्हणाले...

Yep, I once overheard a woman declare, "My house may be cluttered but it's clean." Well, that's simply not possible unless they literally shift everything around at least weekly and clean under it. And I'm doubtful that they would bother.
