174 Democrats Vote Against Amendment That Aims To Make It Harder To Hire TSA Employees With Terrorist Or Sexual Crime Record

Well Althousers, I've just finished an over year long trek to move out to the midwest (Iowa for the last two decades) and move to Idaho. We packed up and physically moved last week and drove all of our (diminished) stuff personally for more than three days. While driving through Wyoming, we were forced to put the travel on hold, while they rescued and repaired, what was from what I heard, perhaps the largest and most damaging auto accident ever on their part of I-80.
Well anyway we just made it. So I'm going to have to pass up on my role of being a sane midAmerican commenter, and go Rocky Mountain High on you . . . . . well probably not High.

This was part of Trump's problem with his entire campaign and transition to the White House- because he was a political novice, he sought to hire political operatives, and almost none of them were loyal to him personally because he didn't come from a political career himself.
Trump would have done far better to hire almost all his staff for the White House from the pool of people who actually have worked for him in the past.

We need to fire everyone in DC, block out all federal programs like SS/Medicare down to the state level, and eliminate the entire federal bureaucracy.
What was the motivation for moving to Idaho? Friends? Family?? Economic? I'm ready to listen to any economic reasons. I have friends in the Coeur d'Alene area.
I'm looking at eastern Washington, but I don't see compelling reasons to move from Seattle.......yet!!
My son son in law and I tried to see Ford v Ferrari in the theater but by the time we coordinated our schedules it was gone
I just flew from Chicago to Phoenix (where sammis is on the agenda) and saw it on the plane. Terrific movie. Not quite as good as Frankenstein 2 but close.
I also highly recommend The Highwaymen. Excellent.
After seeing the movie, I read his bio texas ranger by John bossenecker. Excellent as well. Ann has mentioned his involvement in the Texas primary where lbj beat coke Steven's. Caro talks about it in means of ascent. The bio has a lot more detail.
The movie has Bonnie and Clyde capturing Hamer. The book tells us that never happened. Hamer's family sued the studio and settled for a nice piece of change.

Someplace over here I spun out my Nikki Haley VP fantasy. I forgot to mention she'd probably also be the first Catholic VP.
Does anyone think that a country founded by British Protestants and Dissenters and having a Supreme Court with six Catholics and three Jews is not a bit weird? I think the next justice should be Presbyterian, dammit.

Frome Gateway pundit. They posted WHO stats from Italy
90+ years old: 6% of deaths 80 – 89 years old: 42% of deaths 70 – 79 years old: 35% of deaths 60 – 69 years old: 16% of deaths
99% if fatalities of 60 and older.
83% of 70 - 90 years old. If your in your sixtys, it shows 16% mortality. But even these numbers miss those that never seek treatment. Anecdotal evidence suggests many people that are affected show minimal discomfort, ranging from zero symptoms to nothing but a too long lingering cold.
I have stated earlier this Covid 19 will be whored out by health officials to advance what ever narrative serves their own purpose. Everyone is going to use statistics, and everyone is going to be accurate, but the denominator is an undefinable number.
My family has lived in Moscow for 30 years now -- north Idaho is gorgeous.
Is the SUB still the focal point for U Idaho students ? It was back when I was around there for a month in 1959. Everything is probably different but it was a neat place then. Cour D Alene was small. Now the Sand Point area resembles Cour D'Alene then. My daughter has 5 acres near Sand Point that they were going to build on. Now that she has a baby, that plan may have to wait a couple of years. If her husband's sculpture business takes off, they could move to Sand Point and open a gallery while they build.

This raises a question (not "begs the question," as even many ignorant journalists write): Was there something in the bill other than what is being described that opponents objected to?
First of all, Bernie is a Soviet old tool. And denying that is denying reality. Second, one thing Trump ISN’T, is a blithering idiot. Your dislike of the man doesn’t make him stupid (to us realists, it’s actually evidence of the opposite). And third - if you were actually interested in finding out (instead of just supposing), you could actually look the bill up online.
RC, how about for one time in your life, you grow a pair and back that “laugh” up with something substantive? Every time you’ve been challenged on this, you’ve never followed through.
I can list examples after examples of Sanders apologizing for the Soviet Union and full-on communism. All you have is a “hahaha”.
If you’re so sure of yourself, put your money where your mouth is. Or just have the guts to admit this is all based on your feelings, and you have no argument whatsoever.
Robert doesn’t want to reveal his “precious” because he knows it’s all the warmed over leavings of the scourge of communism that killed over 100 million people during the last century.
I looked at House Bill 1140, which appears to be directed at protecting the rights of TSA workers. I have been unable to find any comments from opponents to the bill explaining why they voted against it. The prohibition on hiring persons convicted of various crimes does not even appear to the primary focus of the bill.I am curious what in the bill would lead so many Dems to oppose it. However, given that all the Republicans--not well know for their support for workers rights--voted for it, perhaps there is some not so apparent feature of the bill that might actually harm TSA worker right in some manner. However, absent any commentary by the opponents, I can't see their objections to the bill.
She starred in a TV series called The Hour, which we found rather entertaining and would watch again. It also features the little guy who plays Endeavour's and Thursday's boss.
Well, first, the "Soviet Union" no longer exists. Second, a "tool of the Soviet Union" presumably actively works to advance the interests of the (moribund) soviet union in the US. What has Sanders done or advocated that advances the interests of (no longer extant) soviet Russia in the US?
"Anybody who disagrees with Robert is an idiot who blithers."
Not in the least. J. Farmer holds positions that I disagree with--he voted for Trump, for one--but he is certainly not an idiot, blithering or otherwise. In fact, Farmer's woeful racial attitudes notwithstanding, he is, in general, the smartest and most interesting commenter on this blog. Every comment thread in which Farmer participates is vastly more interesting (and elevated by his presence) than any in which he is absent.
Well, first, the "Soviet Union" no longer exists. Second, a "tool of the Soviet Union" presumably actively works to advance the interests of the (moribund) soviet union in the US. What has Sanders done or advocated that advances the interests of (no longer extant) soviet Russia in the US?
See, now this is just semantics. The fact that Sanders celebrated the Soviet Union while it EXISTED is the argument everyone here has been making. The fact that it no longer exists doesn't mean it's impossible for people to wish we could have something like that here, and I'm not naive enough to think that Bernie isn't one of those people. And the fact that it no longer exists doesn't mean Bernie is no longer a Soviet tool. Any more than someone who belongs to the Nazi party in the US isn't really a Nazi because Hitler is dead.
So do better. Explain to me, under those unassailable terms, how Bernie is NOT a Soviet tool.
Yancy asked somebody about their reaction to Bonnie and Clyde(not ME!) You aren't the first person I have read who hated it, but I do find the reaction odd. Why did you hate it?
Personally, i hated it; because it said that Worshiping Evil isn't just Cool! it's SEXY The Movie (LITERALLY!) said that murder and armed robbery is GOOD and the Police are BAD!
"The fact that Sanders celebrated the Soviet Union while it EXISTED is the argument everyone here has been making. The fact that it no longer exists doesn't mean it's impossible for people to wish we could have something like that here, and I'm not naive enough to think that Bernie isn't one of those people."
You said he "is" a Soviet tool. How did he "celebrate" the Soviet Union? Assuming he made comments favorable toward aspects of Soviet Russia, how is that "celebrating" the Soviet Union? How did suggesting we implement some policies in the US similar to policies that existed in Soviet Russia, assuming Sanders ever did that, serve Soviet Russia?
A "soviet tool" would be someone spying for Soviet Russia or acting as an active agent of Soviet Russia, or in some other material way acting to serve Soviet Russia's advantage. Even if Sanders said outright we should run our country exactly like Soviet Russia--which he never has, of course--that would just be him asserting his opinion. It would not make him a "soviet tool."
I live (officially) two states away from WA, and a long drive to Seattle. We are equal distance by car to the Walmarts in CDA, Sandpoint, Missoula, and Kallispell. The only advantage I know for staying on the WA side of the border is no WA income tax. (We have a decently stiff income tax in MT, but no sales tax). Doctors and esp attorneys I know making good money in Spokane really want to move across the line into N ID, but balk because of the income tax hit. Some of them have very nice gun collections (including a .50 BMG sniper rifle, several legal machine guns, etc), and are caught now between staying in WA for the income taxes, or move across into ID (or MT) for the gun laws.
My vote is to go where Dr K’s daughter bought property by Sandpoint. CDA (Cour d’Alene) both have lakes, but I like the one by Sandpoint, Pend Orielle much better. It’s bigger, and has better scenery (for me - esp at the bottom with the cliffs, but my partner loves the trees on Lake CDA). If you prefer sailing over motor boating, it’s Pend Orielle, which has yacht clubs at both ends of the lake, which means informal races a couple times a week, and Sandpoint has a big one late in the summer. They also have a nice ski area right above town, probably the best one in the area. In late May, you can literally ski in the morning and be on your sailboat in less than an hour. As you can tell, I much prefer Sandpoint over CDA. Two years ago, we had a big fight, so was looking there for a house.
What CDA has is a lot of money. Big houses for really rich people, and some of the luxuries that come with that. Beverly’s at the CDA Resort is very elegant, and the Sunday brunch downstairs at Dockside is a necessity for us a couple times a year. The CDA area though, esp in the summer, turns into a big zoo. US 93 from CDA north all the up through my town (Hayden), is bumper to bumper, with continuous stop lights on the weekends. If you are trying to get to Sandpoint that way esp in summer, I suggest the Rathdrum cutoff, that ties back into 93 at Athol.
One advantage of N ID over NE WA are the trees, or lack of them. We are talking the fairly tall Ponderosa Pine you see on the coast, but of a slightly different subspecies. The tree line through that area is maybe halfway across the panhandle, with the MT side having towering trees, and the WA side being mostly treeless, the edge of the WA plains that extends most of the way across the state. Indeed, there are two primary elements to ID, where they grow potatoes, and where they have a lot of trees. Top of the state has thick forests of tall evergreens (typically dominated by the Ponderosa Pines, at least up north). Much of the bottom is treeless, where you grow the potatoes. Except for the very eastern edge, which is mostly treeless up into MT, and really all the way up I-15 to Butte.
I mentioned two lakes in ID, CDA and Pend Orielle. CDA is a typical lake for that area. Pend Orielle is very unique. It is much deeper, and because of its depth, rarely freezes. Moreover, it is seismically inactive. As a result, the Navy has a little Navy base on the bottom (south end) of the lake where they do a lot of their acoustic testing. They have maybe 3-4 1/4 scale subs that motor around at night, and had a 1/4 scale of our latest destroyer down there for several years before it was shown to the public. The lake is filled by the Clark Fork river, one of the larger tributaries of the Columbia. Just NE of the lake, by Clark Fork (8 miles from MT) during at least the last ice age, glaciers would push down from Canada, over Sand Point, blocking the river at Clark Fork. It would back up well past Missoula, down the Bitterroot valley and then filling up Glacial Lake Missoula to maybe 2k ft deep at the W end at Clark Fork. The glacier would then retreat a bit, the ice plug would pop, and the lake, the size of one of our Great Lakes, would drain in a day or two, completely resculpting E WA and E OR into their Scablands. Rinse and repeat.
The other factor though that I forgot was the airport. We fly a bit, and mostly it is into and out of the Spokane airport. CDA is maybe 30 miles away from that airport on I-90, which means that it is a straight shot, decently quick, unless you hit rush hour in Spokane, and even then it isn’t horrible. Faster to get to a decent airport from CDA than in many big cities. Maybe half the time from when we were living in Golden, CO, and flying out of DIA. IT would take us just a couple minutes less to fly out of Missoula for us, but we almost always pick Spokane (via CDA). First, it was because it has Southwest Airlines. But last summer we got some smoking deals on 1st class with American, for nonstops to PHX. Plenty of room on the floor between the seats for the cat, you get your own waitress, bathroom, etc. I like the airport, because it is big enough to get good flights, but not too big, so that you are always feeling crowded.

Joke
The sadness in a joke Is the surprise it cannot give: You look, then, in that face With a question that is wrong Asking “Are you real?” The reply always “Yes!” meaning “No.”
To Hannah Arrant
O, Hannah, there is always this: Between the past and the future There is this: dead? No, but Wanting this ‘past’, always hoping (‘Killed by hope’) for merely a summer: A field, a forest, the wilder, wilder flowers
So I don't care - I do - because if I love something, then..... It's kind of another death sentence. Ie I love that which is dieing. Hence I loved Martina, the mother of my kid. I knew she was going to die and I only 'prevented' it by a number of years - it was going to happen and it happened. What am I, a fucking doctor, a wizard that could whirl back time, a child who believes in magic? No, just a bum.

Trump would have done far better to hire almost all his staff for the White House from the pool of people who actually have worked for him in the past.
We need to fire everyone in DC, block out all federal programs like SS/Medicare down to the state level, and eliminate the entire federal bureaucracy.
move to Idaho.
What was the motivation for moving to Idaho? Friends? Family?? Economic? I'm ready to listen to any economic reasons. I have friends in the Coeur d'Alene area.
I'm looking at eastern Washington, but I don't see compelling reasons to move from Seattle.......yet!!
So it looks like Klobuchar will be the veep pick.
I wonder if she was the only person Joe offered the job to.
I wonder if she knows who will be the top of the ticket...

I think it was much safer to be a Kirk casual fling than someone he loved..
Wasn't this an ep where they tried to come up with an in-story explanation for why so many aliens looked like they could be played by humans in minimal makeup?
Jay,
Welcome to the Gem State! Don't know what part of the state you're in, but I think you'll love it here. My family has lived in Moscow for 30 years now -- north Idaho is gorgeous.
Is it really this late?

If Trump gets a third pick, she'll probably be Catholic. (Amy Barrett)

Frome Gateway pundit. They posted WHO stats from Italy
90+ years old: 6% of deaths
80 – 89 years old: 42% of deaths
70 – 79 years old: 35% of deaths
60 – 69 years old: 16% of deaths
99% if fatalities of 60 and older.
83% of 70 - 90 years old. If your in your sixtys, it shows 16% mortality.
But even these numbers miss those that never seek treatment. Anecdotal evidence suggests many people that are affected show minimal discomfort, ranging from zero symptoms to nothing but a too long lingering cold.
I have stated earlier this Covid 19 will be whored out by health officials to advance what ever narrative serves their own purpose. Everyone is going to use statistics, and everyone is going to be accurate, but the denominator is an undefinable number.

Great area.
"House Republicans and 42 Democrats joined forces Thursday to pass an amendment to the Rights for Transportation Security Officers Act that would keep people convicted of sexual assault, terrorism and other violent crimes from working for the Transportation Security Agency (TSA).
But 174 House Democrats — including House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer — did not support the legislation."
This raises a question (not "begs the question," as even many ignorant journalists write): Was there something in the bill other than what is being described that opponents objected to?
"Can you imagine Biden on a stage with Trump at a debate?
Appalling, isn't it, that we've come to such a pass where two such dishonest, blithering idiots are competing for the presidency?

"As opposed to a long time Soviet tool, eh cook"
I'm not aware of any "soviet tool" having been in the running.
"Bernie is a Soviet old tool."
Hahaha!
“Hahaha!”
You tell ‘em Robert.
Anybody who disagrees with Robert is an idiot who blithers. ⇒ Trump disagrees with Robert. ∴ Trump is a blithering idiot
Quod erat demonstrandum.
However, absent any commentary by the opponents, I can't see their objections to the bill.
the superior BBC Romola Garai

Yancy asked somebody about their reaction to Bonnie and Clyde(not ME!)
You aren't the first person I have read who hated it, but I do find the reaction odd. Why did you hate it?
Personally, i hated it; because it said that Worshiping Evil isn't just Cool! it's SEXY
The Movie (LITERALLY!) said that murder and armed robbery is GOOD and the Police are BAD!
"The fact that Sanders celebrated the Soviet Union while it EXISTED is the argument everyone here has been making.

Might point a moral to be had:
The eviscerate beast will be fed
With the inane, the hapless or the sad,
The little joke become universal
Till cosmic gizzards grin,
A gods fading, pathetic appal
Irking some tummy ache of sin,
But we, who ‘know’ exactly when
The anti-Christ and Christ shall meet,
Bitterly say ‘I love’, again,
Hanker for the canker of defeat,
Leathery, inept, miss hued,
Burnt, blathered but staring at the sun
Our being brave merely crude,
Our families broken before they’ve begun:
A wino whine like Ovid-On-The-Sea,
We must be exiles, perpetually.
Poor, naked wretches, where so e’er you are,
That bide the pelting of this pitiless storm,
How shall your houseless heads, and unfed sides,
Your loop'd and window’d raggedness, defend you
From seasons such as these?

Joke
The sadness in a joke
Is the surprise it cannot give:
You look, then, in that face
With a question that is wrong
Asking “Are you real?”
The reply always “Yes!” meaning “No.”
To Hannah Arrant
O, Hannah, there is always this:
Between the past and the future
There is this: dead? No, but
Wanting this ‘past’, always hoping
(‘Killed by hope’) for merely a summer:
A field, a forest, the wilder, wilder flowers
So I don't care - I do - because if I love something, then..... It's kind of another death sentence. Ie I love that which is dieing. Hence I loved Martina, the mother of my kid. I knew she was going to die and I only 'prevented' it by a number of years - it was going to happen and it happened. What am I, a fucking doctor, a wizard that could whirl back time, a child who believes in magic? No, just a bum.
