Steve Bannon keeps smiling and gets enough of his message out as Bill Maher steps on absolutely everything he says.

I like how Maher trashed Trump for calling people "evil" and then ended the interview by calling Bannon "evil." And then Maher walked over to the table with a panel of guests and where everyone freely denounced Bannon. One of the panelists asserted that what Bannon had just said was "maniacal." So desperate.

This gets the "civility bullshit" tag because Maher argued against Trump's rough speech, then turned around and used the same kind of harsh speech himself and with the panelists who mirrored his ideology.

Impeachment isn’t the only way to encourage accountability. Elections are, too. Re-electing Trump tells him that everything he has done has been perfect.

Patterico’s response...

“That’s why the guy who writes this non-Democrat blog, who hates most of the policies the Democrat party espouses, is likely to vote for Democrats this election. To send a message. In the future I’ll likely sit elections out. But this time I feel a moral responsibility to try to help slaughter and bury the GOP. Electorally.”

I am reminded of Charlie Brown and the football. For decades, the Right, and especially politicians on the right, played Charlie Brown to the left's Lucy, and allowed themselves to be slandered, insulted, and tricked over and over. They rarely responded or retaliated because that would just be beneath them and not cricket, what? The proper response was to hold oneself above all that, and go down to glorious, feces-covered defeat (e.g., M. Romney, "Chuck").

But eventually, even Charlie Brown gets tired of being tricked all the time, and in Trump the right has found a Charlie Brown that winds up, run towards the ball, and kicks Lucy in the head, repeatedly. Lucy feels very upset about this.

Patterico, eh, what a drama queen. So you're a Democrat now, congratulations. It doesn't make you all special, though, you're still just another guy with some opinions on politics.

Cowardly little name caller. Wait safely until I have left the thread to bring out your pathetic little post. Quite clearly I wasn't 'backed into a corner'. My point was amplified by two other posters. It was a ridiculous false equivalence by Althouse. If you weren't so partisan you would have seen how completely it was exposed.

Calling civility bullshit on Maher WAS civility bullshit. It was an elitist move to gain the upper hand and retain power, Trump’s power. That was my take on it. I’m sure others disagree. Expecting civility from Maher? Please. That’s his schtick, good thing he’s not president. Expecting civility from POTUS, an elected official to the highest Office in the land, NOT civility bullshit. POTUS has the bully pulpit and can do the job of POTUS and express himself without being a crass disgusting human.

Inga prefers a President who slyly flips people off when mentioning them in prepared speeches.

No civility. Just bullshit.

I don't believe he is as much a crass disgusting human being as Inga does. But he is quite direct and says what he means.

I find that refreshing compared to most of the slimy, sneaky politicians we have had foisted on us of late.

I never had much use for Bannon, who I thought was just a BS artist. But his performance in this video impressed me. He kept his cool, his good humor, and his point, and made Maher look like the stupid bully he is.

As a general observation: If the Democrats think they can win the next election by relying on Maher and SNL and the like, they're going to be making it awfully easy for Trump.

As I said already said I DELETED my comment BEFORE your obsessive queries about it, BECAUSE I knew it would be confusing to people like YOU.

Over and out.

It isn't confusing to anyone.

You attack people viciously calling them Hitler and Racist and Sexist.

You even call Trump and Kavanaugh rapists with absolutely zero evidence.

You call people like Carter Page and Flynn and Trump traitors and Russian agents long after the charges are clearly and completely refuted.

Then you demand that Trump be held to a higher standard when he fires back at you.

The double standard could not be more obvious.

But you think this is OK because you are a piece of shit.

Elected officials DO need to have a higher standard than civilians, if you don’t like the incivilty from civilians to Trump, then he should set an example. As his wife says...Be best!

No. Most of the attacks on Trump are at most thinly veiled attacks on the people who voted for, and / or support Trump.

So he is doing the right thing when he attacks his, and our, attackers

Inga finally dropped the mask. Her complaint about Althouse is exactly what I thought- that Althouse had mocked Maher's hypocrisy, it just took her 25 comments to finally say it explicitly.

I remember George W Bush never *ever* being anything but civil toward his opponents, not even when they were publishing pictures of him with vampire gangs draining the corpse of the statue of liberty. He stayed civil despite being called a Nazi, a warmonger, and accused of actually being the real perpetrator of 9/11.

Did it ever get him a kick of respect? Did his endless civility reduce the rage and hatred that was directed at him every single fucking day for 8 years?

No. Not a bit.

So. Fuck you.

Like with everyone else I’ve filmed, I certainly witnessed moments of inauthenticity while filming Romney: a nervous tic, a laugh at a joke that isn’t funny, being overly polite or formal. But I also noticed how frequently, and quickly, his facade melted around his family. He would get into an intense debate with his son over which airline terminal at JFK had the best food. I saw him get frustrated over someone ordering milk via room service rather than the much cheaper 7-Eleven across the street. I saw him get extremely animated in discussions about the movie “O Brother, Where Art Thou.”

Weird guy, that Mitt Romney.

The real life Ted Danson's Becker?

The Mormon Larry David or Jerry Seinfeld?

Does anybody watch Bill Maher? Other than bloggers looking for stories? Aren't the only reasons he has a job 1) his show is cheap to produce and 2) not everything on HBO can be Game of Thrones?
