"My son is a big fan of Japanese anime and comics. One of his favorite characters is named 'One Punch Man.'"

"He's a regular looking guy with one amazing superpower: he can defeat any man or machine or monster with just one punch. In politics, however, there is no such thing as a 'One Punch Man.' The best one can hope for is a candidate who can withstand the inevitable blows that will come, while also being able to land a couple of punches on their opponents as well."

Writes Amy Walter in the last paragraph of "2020 Democrats Face Their Stress Test" (Cook Political Report), which talks about the importance of being able to take a punch and to punch back. As different candidates come to the fore — Biden, Warren, and now Buttigieg — each faces a "stress test." I've got to say that headline caught my attention because I misread it as 2020 Democrats Fail Their Stress Test. Aren't they all failing when they come into the spotlight and face their stress test?

Oh, wait, here, at Drudge... here's Biden stepping up for another stress test:

I don't know when that photo was taken, but the viral moment was his getting all pugilistic was some old guy who had the gall to ask him a question — how DARE you ask me a question! — at some town hall in Iowa yesterday.

The link goes to "Biden finally finds social media buzz with viral Trump video, voter spat" (Reuters). Well, yeah, anybody can get buzz by doing something awful.
"You're a damn liar, man," Biden told the man.... "No one has said my son has done anything wrong," Biden said. "Get your words straight, jack."... Biden... challeng[ed]  the man to a push-up contest or an IQ test - and appeared at one point to call him "fat."... A Biden campaign aide later said online that Biden had said "facts," not "fat."
He clearly said "fat," but I believe he intended to say "facts." It's just that he was looking at a man who was fat and he made one of those horrifying slips that we all hope we never make.

Now, people are interested in the Iowa man, who, it turns out is a former Marine and he's also 83, so that's 2 more reasons it was stupid for Biden to act like he wanted beat the hell out of him. The man is quoted in The Daily Mail:
"He [Biden] didn't have the guts to explain the situation, and that's what I wanted.... He got p**ed off and stomped around … I wish he had explained in a decent tone of voice why he got his son in that position over there and in my opinion he had no business whatsoever sticking his nose over there.... I am 83 and I know damn well I don't have the mental faculties I did when I was 30 years old... I know for a fact my mental faculties have slipped since I hit the 70s. I got a friend in New Hampton who is 105 years old and he can do push-ups, so it doesn't mean anything about how smart you are."

Hmmmm, could it be that old Joe never read How to Win Friends and Influence People?

It’s possible. It only came out in print in 1936.

Don Draper, “Yes, Sterling Cooper’s best advice for improving your bottom line is to insult both your customers and your would-be customers. It's a proven tactic. When they ask questions about your products, make sure your salesmen approach them in an intimidating way. Then, when they’re in the customer’s face, challenge them. You’ll corner the market in no time.”

“Oh, yeah, another thing. Be sure to call your customers a liar. They’ll appreciate it. Really, they will. And if you call them a 'damn liar,' they’ll be buying your products until the day they die.”

Republicans love a happy warrior. One of the best things about Trump rallies is he's having fun as he ridicules his opponents.

Democrat preferences don't have a handy label like that, but if they did, it would be Democrats love a passionate warrior. They want to believe their champions feel it deep in their bones and they are willing to turn a blind eye to excesses in service to the right causes.

That's why, to the right-wing mind, left-wingers are hopeless hypocrites--people with the right intent are granted absolution for a great many bad acts. But if you don't have good intent, then forget it. Even good acts don't get you credit.

I'm very surprised Biden's staff allowed him to take questions from voters. When he was in Council Bluffs earlier this summer, he didn't. And he said "good afternoon" when it was about 11:00 am.

Biden is a coward. He doesn't want to be in uncontrolled situations. Notice how he gives very few interviews to the Fake News. Hillary NEVER took questions from voters during her Nebraska and Iowa appearances; about six I attended.

If I could ask him a question it would be what did he know - and when did he know - about the Obama-Biden Administration's spying on Trump.

Joe isn't going to be the nominee. He's a joke. Always has been. Too stupid to be President.

I rather enjoyed the first season of "One Punch Man". Looking forward to season 2.

The story about the author is also quite interesting. He was an executive that could not draw so the original comic was quite crude. The idea was interesting, got a following, got better graphics, and away they went.

Biden's response just about guarantees that he'll be peppered with questions like that (if his handlers allow questions in the future).

Burisma
BHR (we haven't even scraped the surface there. One of the firms they invested in has been charged with IP theft.)
Hunter's coke issues
Hunter's stripper issues

And before somebody says those last two are off limits, remember that Joe took Hunter with him to China on AF2 when he lined up the BHR deal. It doesn't matter that he's Joe's son; he's a giant security risk.

In the absence of any plausible good explanation people are going to infer the worst.

But the cold, hard truth is that there really is no legitimate explanation other than the obvious one (the selling influence). Everyone knows it, and it's indefensible.

As contemptuous as I have become of Democrats, I am still shocked by the arrogance of their leaders and the complacency of their rank and file. It’s as though, once elected, graft becomes an entitlement and stupidity and seditiousness the norm.

Of course, I am an apostate from the Party and, thus far, harshly critical. If the Democrats take the Presidency and Congress, I will have to tone it down. Assuming the impeachment hearings are a sign of anti-Constitutional things to come, guns will be outlawed and apostasy from the Party will become a capital offense.

One Punch Man, aka Caped Baldy, has many more abilities than his signature punch. He is ridiculously OP (over powered) in all regards, which is his narrative point. Really an amazingly deep bit of writing, and highly recommended.

Also, Trump is a little One Punch Man-ish himself. His opponents confidently whip out all their usual finishing moves -- sex scandals, calling him "racist," civil service anklebiting, impeachment hearings, whatever -- and to their mounting astonishment and horror, none of it works.

On the other hand, though, the humour of OPM is that the main character is so bland and understated, whereas Trump's public persona is cartoonishly exaggerated.

Read an interesting write-up on the character [last year?] on how he came to possess his power(s). His stated way, though honestly believed by him is just not "plausible" and that is recognized by all of the other characters of that world. Found it an amusing/interesting read. I don't even think the author of the character really knows.

Further, you threatened to withhold millions in US foreign aid, if Ukraine did not fire a special prosecutor investigating the corruption of Burisma. This is called a "conflict of interest."

Biden is older than his age and becoming increasingly deranged. He always a bit kooky. I've always liked Biden and his chummy style, which feels like a throwback to a more bipartisan era. I really do wish that back-slapping cheeriness was the norm in Congress, but everything is so heated and polarized now, or at least that's how the politicos want to make it seem to voters. I find it all so repulsive. I'm conservative but I would gladly trade getting my way 100% for a healthy, functioning, bipartisan, horse-trading, earmarking Congress where legislators from different parties get together over drinks or dinner and aren't accusing each other of treason.

But I have to say this incident, and his performance on the trail in general, has been disqualifying.

Not necessarily.

See Althouse comment at the inception of Biden's campaign:

How dare Biden rest his campaign on a blatant lie — a lie that has been used to stir up fear and racial discord?! The hypocrisy of offering to bring us together and embrace lofty values when he is either repulsively ignorant or just plain lying!

I could not finish watching that video. I tried, but I couldn't force myself. It's utterly toxic bilge.

If Biden does not come forward and retract this video and apologize and commit himself to making amends, I consider him disqualified. He does not have the character or brain power to be President.

Biden with his fist and frown and "c'mon, man" and "you're a damn liar" and his push-up contest bring back traumatic grade school memories. He may not win the millennials, but he should strike a chord in anybody who was in school a few decades back. The man from Malarky is lucky he didn't show his true age and call the guy a "dirty dog double liar."

I don't know what he meant to say or if he "meant" to say anything at all. Sometimes the words are coming out so fast that they leave any meaning far behind, especially if on has some kind of mental impairment. "Listen, facts" isn't quite standard English, and that he was trying to say "Listen, fatass" is far too definite a conclusion for us to make. I suspect he may have had both words (and a lot else) jumbling around inside his head and what came out was what came out.

"One Punch Man" reminds me of Romney. The talk was that he had a "glass jaw" -- he could dish it out but he couldn't take it, and one well-directed blow could destroy his candidacy. The talk turned out to be right (except that he wasn't that good at dishing it out, either).

The mythology seems to be that somebody will get caught in an open mike situation and doom their campaign. Sometimes it happens, but politicians immunize themselves nowadays. They say so many crazy, over-the-top things that one more dumb utterance doesn't kill them.

I'd be more impressed if it was a one-inch punch like Bruce Lee could do.

"The one-inch punch is a skill which uses fa jin (translated as explosive power) to generate tremendous amounts of impact force at extremely close distances. This "burst" effect had been common in Neijia forms. When performing this one-inch punch the practitioner stands with his fist very close to the target (the distance depends on the skill of the practitioner, usually from 0–6 inches, or 0-15 centimetres). The timed chaining of multiple muscle groups[2] contribute to the punching power while being imperceptible to the attacker. It is a common misconception that "one-inch punches" utilize a snapping of the wrist. The target in such demonstrations vary, sometimes it is a fellow practitioner holding a phone book on the chest, sometimes wooden boards can be broken.

"The one-inch punch was made popular in the west when demonstrated by Bruce Lee at the Long Beach International Karate Championships in 1964. Bruce Lee learned the technique from his Wing Chun training in Hong Kong. He used the art of Wing Chun as his basis of the art he founded, Jeet Kune Do."

Agree and was thinking along the same lines.

But if your son works for a Ukrainian company, if only for appearance sake, you need to not be the point-man on Ukraine, because it is a pretty obvious bad look. You let the ambassador or the president or the sec of state do this work and the VP recuses himself. You don't even discuss Ukraine policy.

Drago: You mean the policy of running up trillions and trillions of debt far outpacing Obama. Just wait until the bill comes due Trump is using everybody like a credit card, then he's going to skip town just like he always does

How3ard needs to read Article I Section 9 of the Constitution.

No Money shall be drawn from the Treasury, but in Consequence of Appropriations made by Law; and a regular Statement and Account of the Receipts and Expenditures of all public Money shall be published from time to time.

Spendng bills originate in the House.

Assuming Slow Joe wins the nom, I'd love to see a brawl between him and DJT on the debate stage. Joe looks like he could throw a few punches, but Trump has wrestler energy, experience, and weight advantage. I think Trump could literally kill Biden on the stage. How cool would that be?

Depends on whether Joe wields a chain.

Biden losing what Iowa white votes he had calling this old white guy fat and sedentary.

At least he didn't call the guy "corn fed".

Insty headline:

CNBC: ‘You’re a damn liar, man!’ – Joe Biden blasts Iowa voter, calls him ‘fat’ after man repeats Ukraine smear.

“Smear.”

Editorializing in the headline of an ostensibly straight news piece isn’t a good look, CNBC.

After the event, Biden pointed out the crowd reaction (to the pushup shit of all things)showed strong support.
As bizarre as Biden's non-sequitur was, his audience there was more disturbing.

The fat guy wasn't a real veteran and was obviously a Trump stooge planted there to harass Biden. Dig for dirt! Destroy him!!
