Can’t Nancypants be charged with obstruction of the Senate for her refusal to transmit the impeachment papers? Does ANY liberal or progressive or Democrat care about due process at all? Anyone?

Pelosi has now invited Trump to give the SOTU speech on February 4. The day before would be a good day to dismiss the impeachment articles.

I had two jobs where I needed to be up before sunrise. Job one was the military. I joined at 17 and wanted nothing more than to sleep in when the sharp and loud sounds of revile started at 5am. Job two was after the military and I worked at UPS sorting packages before going to my college classes (BS Chemistry).

Now that I'm in my 50's I wonder where the energy came from. Now that I'm in my 50's I wonder why I wake up at 3am. Oh the blessings of sleep.

ASHE SCHOW: New York Governor Cuomo Proposes New Law That Allows Women To Claim They Were Raped After Consuming Alcohol. “Cuomo’s proposal would change the state’s definition of those who cannot legally consent to sexual activity to include someone who is conscious but allegedly too drunk to consent. Keen observers will notice how vague the idea of being ‘too drunk to consent’ may be.”

How long until men start suing the companies that make the alcohol?

Funny to watch The Intercept carrying water for the CIA and FBI. They have gone all in with the Democrats which is why they have distanced themselves from Glenn Greenwald, who calls ‘em like he sees ‘em.

No. If anything, she is "obstructing" the House, but as instructed by her Democrat majority caucus leadership.
I am generally against using low language on this blog, but really, "clusterfuck" is the apt term in this case.

These guys are too old and too out of touch from having sat too long in the safe districts constructed for them. They cannot handle a revolt in their own party after all these years of adulation as "icons."

It's probably the only place I use it. On occasion. ;-D

Pelosi shenanigans just highlight to me how political this whole impeachment thing is. If this were a crisis the impeachment would be handed off with all due expediency.
I've yet to see why Democrats think it's a Bad Thing for Trump to use a foreign Govt to investigate a political opponent (as the Democrats allege with scant evidence) -- but it's not a Bad Thing to have the US Congress investigate a sitting President to aide the President's political opponent.

Last night I watched Kurasawa's Ran for the first time. It's never been available from Netflix and so I bought it. As most know, it's an adaptation of King Lear in the Japanese warlord sense. While it's not my favorite Kurasawa film, some of the scenes were unforgettable, like evil Lady Kaede licking the blood from her brother-in-law's neck after stabbing him. Nicely filmed with seemingly thousands of extras and horses, as in Kagemusha.

Caught Chuck Todd & co. Discussing the debate. Apparently MSNNC is boycotting Andrew Yang, because, for the first few minutes I watched, they didn’t mention him. Later they got onto a report from anonymous sources that President Trump believed in Ukrainian interference in the election because Putin told him so. Now, if Trump actually believed that could be true, then asking Zelensky to investigate it as a”favor to us” was completely proper — but the exculpatory aspect of the story never occurred to them.

Jaq કહ્યું...

"Trump believed in Ukrainian interference in the election because Putin told him so.”

My Q is different:

Is Nancy Pelosi guilty of honest services fraud wasting taxpayer$ if she holds back impeachment articles from Senate.

Because House passed Trump is charged on that count for delayed delivery of Ukraine aid!?

Hagar કહ્યું...

No. Some people were talking about it, but the aid was never delayed.

Hagar કહ્યું...

Come to think of it, if there was an actual "hold" on the $400 million there would have to be a note going with that account that no withdrawals be made until further notice and signed and dated by the person in charge of doing the actual holding.
No mention has made of anyone even trying to follow the trail on that though it is so obvious!

Drago કહ્યું...

Of course, there are also reports that Mifsud might be in protective custody.

Without a body, live or dead, how is anyone to know?

Hagar કહ્યું...

Before you can characterize a use of power as abusive, you must establish that force was used.
This has not been done.

Andrew કહ્યું...

These photos remind me of JMW Turner paintings.

Andrew કહ્યું...

@mockturtle,

I love that movie (Ran), but wow is it depressing! You can't get more bleak than that. I saw it in the 80's as a melancholic teenager, and it haunted me like few movies have.

The scene that blew me away the most was the attack on the castle, with the Takemitsu music in the background.

Hey, it's on YouTube! I looked on a hunch.

https://youtu.be/qs92nyDDBdQ

The old man reminds me of Hillary, sad to say.

mockturtle કહ્યું...

Andrew observes: The old man reminds me of Hillary, sad to say.
;-D

I think it was Kagemusha that ended with the horrific and haunting scene of the battle aftermath with the dead and dying horses and men. How he filmed that scene is a mystery to me. But nearly all his films haunt me in some way.

Another film I own and enjoy and that is haunting in its own way is Kundo: Age of the Rampant, a Korean film about a mid-19th century rebellion. It's a beautiful film and humorous at times but the villain is unforgettable.

Seeing Red કહ્યું...

Via Lucianne:

This is interesting. Last year Speaker Pelosi used the SOU invite to play out political games against President Trump. This year, considering the political impeachment effort, I thought she would be likely to replay that scheme; but she didn’t. This implies the private polling and public sentiment (ie. bbacklash) against her constituent democrats must be much more severe than is currently visible: (Letter)Per Hogan Gidley: President Donald J. Trump has accepted the Speaker’s invitation to deliver the State of the Union Address on February 4, 2020.

I think he should give it someplace else.

They’re up to something.

Andrew કહ્યું...

@mockturtle,
I'm not familiar with Kundo. I'll add it to my list. And I've never seen Kagemusha yet either. I'm woefully behind, but I'll get to it.

Yes, Kurosawa does many things that are beyond me as to how he accomplishes them. I can't recall, does Ran have the disclaimer that no horses were injured in the making of this film? Maybe Japan doesn't have Peta.

mockturtle કહ્યું...

I can't recall, does Ran have the disclaimer that no horses were injured in the making of this film?

Andrew, alas, I don't read Japanese. But knowing what I know about Kurosawa I would doubt very much that any animals were abused, unlike Coppola, who had a live water buffalo hacked to death for Apocalypse Now.

Andrew કહ્યું...

"... unlike Coppola, who had a live water buffalo hacked to death for Apocalypse Now."

Now that's the way to do it.

mockturtle કહ્યું...

IIRC, Andrew, a few humans were also sacrificed for that film.
