Yes, I missed you--feeling a little worried in fact. Looks like a "fan"tastic trip!

Tommy Duncan ayon kay ...

Jack Nicholson, is that you?

Char Char Binks, Esq. ayon kay ...

Kinda

Stu Grimshaw ayon kay ...

With the lack of rain hereabouts the foliage is going from green straight to brown. No orange, yellow or red. Just dead.

tastid212 ayon kay ...

I thought you might be trying to wean us slowly off the blog... "I want my Maypo!"
Looks like you're out in great hiking territory; did you bring your electric mountain bikes?
It's too hot here for most outdoor activity after 8am...

Martha ayon kay ...

YES! !!!!!!!

You were missed muchly!

tim maguire ayon kay ...

I hope you enjoyed. It looks like the weather held for you (it's been raining here).

Yes, I missed you.
You are so dependable that your absence might be cause for legal action.

MountainMan ayon kay ...

Yes, I think we have all missed you. But I figured that’s where you were. Looks like it was a nice trip. Post some more pics, please.

I missed you! Glad you're back.

We missed you soooo much!

Very nature-y. I love pointy nature places...

I did indeed. Sorry about the Brewers.

Ann Althouse ayon kay ...

"Looks like you're out in great hiking territory; did you bring your electric mountain bikes?"

Our mountain bikes are not electric and we did bring them.

Here's a trail I rode... on my own muscle power (including going up, not just down).

Dave Begley ayon kay ...

Crazy head of hair.

And did you drive back to Wisconsin through the Nebraska Sandhills or did you drive I-80?

Ann Althouse ayon kay ...

"It looks like the weather held for you (it's been raining here)."

We specifically planned around the weather and chose a window where it was great there and kinda bad here. "Bad" in the sense of some rain, which is mainly a Meadhouse problem because you can't ride the trails when they're wet.

Ken B ayon kay ...

That's a crazy head of hair.

Sebastian ayon kay ...

I was a little concerned about the Ripkinesque blogging streak ending.

rcocean ayon kay ...

Great photo. Where is the lake?

rcocean ayon kay ...

And we did miss you. Your lack of posts was...disconcerting.

Welcome back! You were missed and I am thankful you brought us a lovely mountain lake photo. I needed that today.

wildswan ayon kay ...

I figured you were tripping - toward blue skies.

stevew ayon kay ...

Yes. Welcome back. Looks like you got plenty of both (baseball and yellow flora).

Amadeus 48 ayon kay ...

Yes. I missed you and the mister, too. Welcome back.

Jim Gust ayon kay ...

Well, I went to the blog about 6 times and immediately closed the window when I saw no change in the top post. I think that counts as missing you.

Titus ayon kay ...

You are pretty

JRoberts ayon kay ...

Your first post after a brief break and it's about something other than insane politicians.

Thank you!

Curious George ayon kay ...

Too bad the Brewers shit the bed in Colorado. The Cubs finally won a few games against St. Louis to give them the chance to pass the Cards and avoid the one and done Wildcard game. The Hader failure on Saturday was a sign of things to come.

Bay Area Guy ayon kay ...

Yes, we missed you! With all this political chaos!, we cannot function without you!

Maillard Reactionary ayon kay ...

Looks like you found both.

Regarding the video of the trail, while I've gone downhill at 40+ MPH on a street bike, I'd be loath to go as fast as that guy did on a ridgeline. Brave, confident, or reckless as you prefer, but it's not for me.

Ann Althouse ayon kay ...

"And did you drive back to Wisconsin through the Nebraska Sandhills or did you drive I-80?"

We zoomed straight across Nebraska. Passed through Omaha last night around rush hour. Caught some sleep around Grand Island at a rest stop on the way out.

Sorry to treat Nebraska so, but we were strictly Colorado-focused.

Ann Althouse ayon kay ...

"I was a little concerned about the Ripkinesque blogging streak ending."

It didn't end.

Ann Althouse ayon kay ...

"Great photo. Where is the lake?"

In the White River National Forest.

It's really just a pond.

More pictures soon!

John Ray ayon kay ...

One thing about Ann -- Damn, she is photogenic!

William ayon kay ...

Yes, I definitely missed you. I take my morning coffee with Althouse. There was a disturbance in the force. I didn't have my usual way of easing into the world. Coupled with the end of spontaneous comments, it looked like you were moving out and on, and that I would need to find another portal to the world. I'm relieved to see you back and hope someday the moderation will cease.

Friendo ayon kay ...

Missed, indeed.

mockturtle ayon kay ...

Of course we did.

Tomcc ayon kay ...

Heck yeah, we missed you! I felt like Elmer Fudd taking a shot at Bugs; you pull the trigger and nothing happens. So you turn the rifle around and look down the barrel...

Dave Begley ayon kay ...

Ann and Meade:

Next time stop in Omaha. What's the rush? We can go for drinks in the Old Market.

Amadeus 48 ayon kay ...

"In the White River National Forest."

Near Vail. We've hiked up there.

Next time you go west, Strongly think about taking US-20, instead of I-80
If you took US-151 down to Dubuque; then US-20 would be four lane across Iowa (with nearly no traffic), and then in Nebraska, it becomes two lane (with NO traffic), and takes you through the middle of the Sandhills (and is Really quite pretty); then across the bottom of the Black Hills, including Fort Robinson State Park (an old Calvary fort... Where Crazy Horse was killed). There's now a Bike Path, that goes nearly the Whole way across the State (the Cowboy Trail) .

Then, if you keep going, you'll end up at Van Tassell; one of the Biggest Cities in the State of Wyoming.

I thought you might miss a day - but i assumed you were traveling somewhere.
wish i were in Colorado - my favorite place

Honestly, for once, couldn't tell. Moderation has fragmented all the threads here. There is almost no commenter interaction any longer. I understand that some of that interaction is worse than useless, but you are throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

Hope you enjoyed Coors Field, despite our poor hospitality to the visiting team. Although it is the 3rd oldest park in the NL, I think it remains a gem.

That game had to leave you aching. It’s just a game, I was told all my life but I knew better. Pain is pain.

rehajm ayon kay ...

Rad! You must have been so railed shredding those gnarly downsides. Dope.

Bruce Hayden ayon kay ...

“White River National Forest.”

Doesn’t really narrow it down much, except that it is in central CO.

Arguably one of the most beautiful National Forests in the country. Esp his time of year. More Wilderness Areas (8) than any other NF. And more major ski areas than probably the next several NFs combined (Pitkin (Aspen Ajax/Buttermilk/Highlands/ Snowmass), Eagle(Vail, Beaver Creek, Ski Cooper), Summit(Breckenridge, Copper, Keystone, A Basin), and Garfield (Sunlight) counties) (ok, Ski Cooper, and Sunlight are small, A Basin and maybe Buttermilk are intermediate in size). Skied them all by the time I had graduated from college (raced through then). Ten 14k’ mountains (though I would expect the easterly two to be in Clear Creek county), and I would guess maybe 100 13k’ peaks. I can still remember when the Summit County NF lands were transferred to White River NF in 1998. It was controversial back then, but I think it turned out to have been the right choice. Other Forests might have portions that are as beautiful, but I challenge anyone here to find one with anywhere near as much really beautiful natural scenery. (And yes, I am extremely prejudiced, having spent much of my teen and adult life exploring there, only formally giving up my Summit County residence two years ago).

We here were worried-- maybe that Union Thug got you.
"That's some crazy head of hair-- be a shame if something happened to it"
kind of thing.
Lefty tolerance for those who "go rogue" is in short supply, and you do host a blog that is a veritable beehive of right-leaning content and who knows when you will reach the limits of their "goodwill".

Welcome back, and hope you fired those infernal moderators!!

"Comments delayed are Comments denied!!"

PS: did you leave Arthur on the porch again? ;-)

I'd like to suggest that after leaving a Cafe post for the night (or when you are traveling) that you turn off moderation. Sure, some older threads will be trashed (but they ARE older) but the blog wouldn't die a slow death every night.

"Hope you enjoyed Coors Field, despite our poor hospitality to the visiting team. Although it is the 3rd oldest park in the NL, I think it remains a gem."

I loved the location. It must be nice to live in LoDo and just amble over to a game.

The Rockies fans were great, filling the stadium on Friday and Saturday, and really into a family party atmosphere, though their team was out of the running for the playoffs. The hometown support for the team is really nice (and I've been seeing so many empty seats in games on TV in other cities).

We talked to a lot of people — Rockies fans. They were nice. And we were wearing Brewers shirts. (We were close to the visiting team dugout and there were quite a few Brewers fans concentrated there.)

We watched the 2017 total solar eclipse in Van Tassell. It's quite the metropolis.

Yep. Told a Brewer friend of mine they didn't lose the WC game on Tuesday. They lost it on Saturday.
