We had a great view at our campsite at Resumidero Campground in the Jemez Mts of New Mexico. Then the rain started and we had to bug out before we got mired in the mud.
We should have topped off the tank on the way back, but we had no cell service and did not listen to the radio on the drive back, so we were ignorant of the news.
Those look like barges for training the newbie crews. One question I’d like to hear in a Dem, debate is: “Would you support a provision requiring members of Congress to be covered by the same health insurance you want to impose on ordinary citizens”?
If we planted 1 trillion trees they would suck up as much carbon as human beings and their industries have emitted in the last 25 years. 1 trillion is a lot but Minnesota plants 12 million a year. Surely Wisconsin can do anything Minnesota does and better. And if every US state did that for ten years that would be 6 billion trees. And if 100 other countries did that we would reach and surpass 1 trillion even allowing for trees that die off. This climate change solution proposed by the UN would be a good thing to do even if there is really no climate change and it will not wrench economies out of shape or require a socialist takeover. I'm surprised the Dems haven't mentioned it - not.
A Touch of Frost, British detective series, has DVD subtitles often saying "(unintelligible)," proving that it's not just you.
I remember that as a pretty good & realistic series. I'm curious if you've seen Scott & Bailey, two female Manchester detectives and their even fouler-mouthed female boss, all with train-wreck personal lives.
The Brexit referendum took place on June 23, 2016, a year that this side of the pond was largely occupied with wondering who would win the presidential election. So I didn't pay it much attention. This amazing article brought me up to date:
WHY HASN'T BREXIT HAPPENED?

Excerpt:
"...These shifts in Britain’s constitutional culture have become obvious during the rolling European migration crisis of recent decades. The more courts took control of immigration policy, the harder immigration was to stop. As home secretary under David Cameron, May promised to limit Britain’s galloping population growth to “tens of thousands a year, not hundreds of thousands.” But net migration has been running at around a quarter-million ever since, rising as high as 333,000 in 2015. Last year, according to Migration Watch U.K., net migration was 258,000. That means 74,000 Europeans added to 232,000 non-Europeans who arrived, and 48,000 Britons who left. May was just a talker when it came to immigration policy, but no politician in three decades had done any better. Once the judiciary rules politics, all politicians are just talkers. Understand that, and you are most of the way to understanding Brexit.
The transfer of competences from legislatures to courts is a superb thing for the rich, because of the way the constitution interacts with occupational sociology. Where the judiciary is drawn from the legal profession, and where the legal profession is credentialed by expensive and elite professional schools, judicialization always means a transfer of power from the country at large to the richest sliver of it. This is true no matter what glorious-sounding pretext is found to justify the shift—racial harmony, European peace, a fair shake for women. In a global age, judicial review is a tool that powerful people expect to find in a constitution, in the same way one might expect to find a hair dryer in a hotel room."
In the context of Boris Johnson now being the antithesis of Teresa May:
Daily Mail UPDATED: 19:04 EDT, 14 September 2019
Britain will break free of its 'manacles' from the EU like the Incredible Hulk, Boris Johnson tells Brussels ahead of crunch meeting with Jean-Claude Juncker
"...If he fails to strike a deal, Mr Johnson is adamant that he will not obey Parliament's order to ask the EU to extend Article 50. He has said that he would rather 'die in a ditch' than do so.
No 10 strategists say they have devised a secret plan, known only to the PM and three key advisers, which they claim will allow them to ignore the order without breaking the law – although most legal experts are sceptical that such a ruse could work."
[Probably Robert Craig's analysis that the new law was illegally passed without the Queen's Consent, not just her Assent. A material difference.]
"...In his MoS [Mail of Sunday] interview, Mr Johnson said that the UK would emulate Bruce Banner, the mild-mannered scientist who transformed into the Hulk when angry.
'Banner might be bound in manacles, but when provoked he would explode out of them,' he says. 'Hulk always escaped, no matter how tightly bound in he seemed to be – and that is the case for this country. We will come out on October 31 and we will get it done.'"
"I'm curious if you've seen Scott & Bailey, two female Manchester detectives and their even fouler-mouthed female boss, all with train-wreck personal lives."
I have watched the entire series. I liked it quite a lot.
now what's with this cameron ortis bust and the aussi raid?
Spygate dominoes starting to fall?
The arrest in Canada "is believed to be part of a wider operation involving NATO allies and the Five Eyes — Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the U.S. and U.K," reports @globalnews. The foreign entity is not named. (entity, not country) Ortis was reportedly identified when US authorities flipped a suspect who gave him up.
"I don't know what Johnson is planning, but it had better be something other than reviving the May departure deal."
Another quote from the really excellent Christopher Caldwell piece mentioned above suggests Boris Johnson (AKA The Hulk) is strongly against the May departure deal:
'..An abyss opened up in July 2018 at the prime ministerial retreat of Chequers, when May released a plan for future relations with Brussels. It called for harmonization with E.U. rules and regulations, described the backstop in a way that made it look inescapable, and envisioned a role for the European Court of Justice. Johnson said that May was “volunteering for economic vassalage” and resigned as foreign secretary. “[W]e continue to make the fatal mistake of underestimating the intelligence of the public, saying one thing to the E.U. about what we are doing and saying another to the electorate,” he explained. “[I]n important ways, this is…Brexit in Name Only.”'
I check Robert Craig's twitter account from time to time:
https://twitter.com/robertcraig3?lang=en
His current interest seems to be concentrating on the prorogation judicial review cases instead on the currently dormant Queen's Consent issue (which he has written on extensively).
He recently retweeted this tweet from Jonathan Jones, Permanent Secretary of the Government Legal Department and Treasury Solicitor:
The @UKSupremeCourt has now announced that *11* justices will hear the prorogation judicial review cases starting next Tuesday 17 September, in which GLD [Government Legal Department] of course acts. https://supremecourt.uk/brexit/index.html.
The prorogation of the House of Commons by the Queen at Johnson's request is being fought tooth and nail by both Remainers and Labor.
"A Touch of Frost, British detective series, has DVD subtitles often saying "(unintelligible)," proving that it's not just you.”
On Netflix there is a old but good version of Twelfth Night where not only are there an “unintelligable” (Hint, you could google the line pretty easy) but in the play, that it seems should be more popular today due to the gender bending, the captions get the “brother” Sebastian and “sister” Viola played by the same actress, mixed up.
