Most startling thing in my Twitter feed yesterday... gets the tags "naked" and "baseball."

I had to refresh my recollection of this "Body Issue" thing. Why don't I notice it every year? Possible answer: It's not in my Twitter feed and I follow just about exactly one sports-related account: the Milwaukee Brewers. (I say "just about" because I can think of at least one individual player that I follow... and I can't remember ever seeing him naked.)

Here's Yelich getting interviewed.

I love the line: "I'm not really worried about the whole being naked thing."

Of course, we love Yelich here at Meadhouse — naked Yelich, clothed Yelich... all forms of Yelich.

I'm creating a "Yelich" tag for this, so "naked," "baseball," and "Yelich."

"Yelich" tag applied to old posts in the archive — of which there were 4. This verifies my longstanding interest in Yelich. It's not just the whole being naked thing.

Full credit for not wearing shorts.

Extra credit in some minds...

He has nice teeth, but a big overbite.

Yeah yeah yeah.

Maybe Yelich should play center field naked - might increase the attendance at Brewer games.

Video interview with naked slide

Two seasons is longstanding?

Emanating from the blogger that is frequently and accurately compared to Cal Ripken Jr.?

Turned the other way, this would be illegal in Texas.

"Maybe Yelich should play center field naked"

He plays right field.

If he’s batting naked, it might make it difficult for the umpire to call a checked swing.

Jaq said...

“I’m sure I saw him go around!”

“Cocksucker!!”

“You are out of here!”

Bull Durham reference.... sort of.

I would have thought Prince Fielder's cover would have generated some buzz at meadehouse. Oh well.

I was shocked by how skinny Yelich is. Of course I didn't think he'd look like Fielder, but I expected a little more mass up top.

Well, he is one that looks good without clothes, so he's got that going for him, which is nice.

Even without a naked Yelich in the outfield, the Brewers are not hunting in the attendance department.

AllenS said...

I don't want to hear one thing about the World Famous Racing Sausages running naked either.

Jaq said...

"World Famous Racing Sausages running naked.”

That’s sort of like putting a bumper sticker on a Prius. Kind of redundant.

hurting not hunting. Geeeez.

Y is for Yankees, not Yelich.

How do you justify this presentation of a tyrannical ideal of the male body?

Doesn't this demean us poor normal males who can never hope to live up to this ideal?

We men must be liberated from these arbitrary and destructive ideals of male beauty.

Thank you, Hain.

Have the Brewers done anything in baseball since the days of Robin Yount? Asking for a friend.

Stop oppressing me, Althouse.

Cubs vs. Brewers tonight. A fight to death over a wild card spot and the right to be demolished by the Dodgers in the division championship series.

Cubs have Zobrist and Contreras back.

Maddon on the hot seat. Will he be fired if they Cubs don't advance in the playoffs?

Maybe we should defer to Titus on that call.

Ralph L said...

Titus likes them brown guys, but we know nothing about his hog.

We should be glad he showed only one tattoo. That's a fad that needs to fade.

Unfortunately one of his fans took issue with Yelich posing naked and called him out on a Twitter.

His response: “Relax, Roxanne”

And he had Roxanne as his walk up song the next game.

Great sense of humor.

He looks better naked than Prince Fielder did when he posed. But Prince was a great hitter and Brewer, too

I don't look like that...why are they promoting this ideal...so triggered...literally shaking rn.

Seriously, this the single most pretentious use of nudity to sell a product of all time. The people that pose are f'ng saps.

"Y is for Yankees, not Yelich”

Feels good to finally be winning again after all of these years? Yankees fans mostly are like Montreal Habs fans, history buffs.

Playing center fold? I could care less about Y or BB, but the male nude, now.

You have a dirty mind. Anyway, when I was smurfing at the library about 1989 or so, my boss lady department head allowed a very good-looking, personable young black student activist (call him K.) install an "AIDS Awareness/Safe Sex" display in some cabinets we had. Being the nice liberal academic (closeted) lesbian she was, she left it all to him . . .

He installed it over a weekend, and Monday morning we enjoyed a display of safe sex posters, wooden dildoes naked and clothed, and many artistic glossy photos of K., the body-builder artist's model, posing like Isadora Duncan doing the Dance of the Seven Veils with only six veils. Did I mention he had thoughtfully provided his phone number?

When the library director, a short, irascible Cajun saw it, he said, "This is nothing but advertising for sex! Take it down."

K. was arrested about a year later, stealing computers from the journalism building.

Naked guys want to show off their big dicks and that's really transparent.

I'm still amazed that the Body Issue is a thing. Still remember the ads when the ESPN Magazine was getting started, with a pair of NBA Players (Kevin Garnett & Stefon Marburry, when both were playing for the Timberwolves) pitching their "idea" to compete with the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue: "All nude....tastefully done."

It was a bad joke at the time....then they actually did it.

Remember when ESPN used to be about sports?

Yeah. Good times.

This highlights a trend I find troubling and damaging to our society. I keep seeing more and more naked male asses and less and less nipples or even pokies. Don't the good people at ESPN want to celebrate the glory of the human form as personified by a naked female gymnast. I, for one, would like to see how beautiful a figure skater is when she makes those turns without all that restrictive clothing......I'm watching the Victoria series with Jenna Coleman. One of her footmen has a couple of butt naked scenes, but when Queen Victoria goes bathing on a cold day, we don't even get to see some pokies through her bathing outfit. I can't help but think this is some kind of new fangled decadence.

I'm with William, and the guys on South Park--what's with all the gay dicks on GOT (had to remember what the damn show was called!)
