He's right about the authoritarian take-over of information that doesn't protect the ruling class.

*See google/youtube and how they openly protect Democrats and squash all opposing views.
Funny- democratic-Google in North America is very similar to Vladimir Putin's rule.

If Mounk is interviewed on CNN, then he should conclude his statement with a similar attack on CNN.

I don't get the video clips on the left side of the screen during the interview.

Trump is not the ruling class.

The corrupt so-called democrat/ democratic-Putin-Google machine is very much in charge.

Good for him. At least he got his thesis out in between the slams at Putin. Which is more than most Leftists would do. Remember the Dutch Leftist with Tucker. My Suggestion, put him on Fox News. If he starts slamming Fox, we know he's a Fraud.

We do have a problem with Authoritarianism. Only its the Liberal Power Elite that are the problem. We have Antifa attacking Trump supporters with their approval. We have the Press giving Tump 92% negative coverage. We have big corporations firing people for political views and Banks refusing to lend money to conservative Businesses because they sell Guns or support the NRA.

yes, there is a problem with authoritarianism - but its Progressive authoritarianism.

It seemed like he was subtly baiting RT so I think he can't be too disappointed how the network reacted by kind of making his point. Looked like it was not the interviewer who cut him off but someone in the control room. How apt.

On January 6, 2017 -- two weeks before the inauguration of Donald Trump -- US Director of National Intelligence James Clapper published his assessment that the Russian Government meddled in the USA's 2016 election.

The assessment's text is 13 pages long (the pages numbered 1-13). Of those 13 pages, at least eight full pages are about Russia's RT television company. Supposedly, the Russian Government was using RT broadcasts to brain-wash the US electorate.

Ironically, however, the biggest, most significant brain-washing operation by any government in this situation was DNI Clapper's ludicrous assessment.

-----

Why was the US Intelligence Community so obsessed with the RT television company?

In December 2015, that company hosted a dinner, in Moscow, celebrating its own history and accomplishments. The guests at the dinner included Vladimir Putin -- and Michael Flynn and Jill Stein.

* Flynn was the prominent foreign-policy advisor to Donald Trump, who was running against Hillary Clinton in the USA's Presidential race.

* Stein was the leader of the Green Party and was running against Hillary Clinton in the USA's Presidential race.

It's now clear that the US Intelligence Community's leadership -- Clapper, James Comey, John Brennan and their ilk -- became certain that RT was a conduit of money and collaboration between ...

* the Kremlin

... and ...

* the political opponents of Hillary Clinton.

Because of their certainty, they began -- no later than December 2015 -- to expend extraordinary resources to study Russia's RT television company.

------

Fast-forward to the end of December 2016.

* Donald Trump has won on Election Day, November 8, 2016

* Trump's victory was confirmed by the Electoral College vote on December 19, 2016

* President Obama has expelled 35 Russian diplomats because of alleged Russian meddling in the election

* President Obama has ordered DNI Clapper to publish an assessment informing the US public of the evidence for such meddling.

Clapper has little time to publish such an assessment before the inauguration, which will take place on January 20, 2017. The bulk of Clapper's "evidence" is the tripe that he has collected about the RT company.

All that Clapper can do in the short time available to him is to concoct a 13-page document -- in which at least eight full pages are about RT. The meat of Clapper's assessment is that RT broadcast many news shows that criticized the fracking technology in the USA's petroleum industry.

Who is "the Liberal Power Elite"? (Why the capitalization? Is it a new rock band?) Do you actually conceive that big corporations or banks are leftist organizations?

Given that Clapper perjured himself before Congress to conceal the NSA's omnivorous, 24/7 around the years surveillance of Americans' communications, anything he says, any positions he floats to the public, is immediately suspect, if not automatically self-impeaching.

What would satisfy your mind, so impervious to contrary facts, that this was in fact the case? When's the last time you got anywhere near a bank - the inside of a bank, as opposed to the front of an ATM? What would you know about all the SJW stuff being driven by their HR departments? All the LGBT Ally stuff? All the community causes? All the do-gooding? What would it take short of them disbanding and giving their depositors' assets to the poor to convince you that they are not as right-wing as you think they are? What do your terms even mean? Daddy Warbucks running around with top hat and monocle and moneybags?

Yes - Google is the biggest corporation out there and they are openly totalitarian left.

A/K/A fascism. Or, because it is straight from Mussolini's playbook "The Doctrine of Fascism" (Available via the portal) perhaps we should call it Fascism.

There is no ideological distinction between Fascism and progressivism. The progressives of the 20's and 30s were quite explicit about this.

After all, Mussolini "Made the trains run on time" and who could think that this was not a good thing?

We need order and the only ones who can instill order on society are good, strong, progressive/fascist types.

Organizations, including big corporations and banks, are not, in and of themselves, leftist or rightist or anything else. What matters is who is running them and what they are doing with them. And, yes, today in the United States, many of the biggest and most influential organizations, including banks, are being run by leftists for leftist purposes.

Cook: Do you actually conceive that big corporations or banks are leftist organizations?

Sure dude, whatever. If you pre-define all government-buying, control-freak, censoring, dissent-squashing, party-line enforcing authoritarian moves as right-wing, or "not real leftism!", then yeah, no banks or corporations are pushing the leftist agenda.

Having established that, you and the rest of the Only True Leftists can go back to voting for Jill Stein and playing with the unicorns, having nothing of relevance to say about reality.

I have a family member that is VP of HR for a regional bank. She says they have been hiring like mad over the past few years.. Not investment folk. Not financial folk. Nope, BY FAR her hiring has been compliance experts for Federal requirements. Tough job, she admits because several requirements are conflicting.

I watched the video. I might agree with some of what he said, but he seemed to want to make accusations not backed with evidence, at least in his on air statement. His tweet seems to imply something not seen in the video. He spoke nearly the entire time, and then the video cuts out. Was he cut off or did he end the video there? It seems to end after he made his statement in entirety. He's definitely no Jordan Peterson.

Mounck is a little behind. All the acts of suppression, including violent assaults and actual suppression of speech by imprisonment, have been going on in Western Europe for decades. No country in Western Europe permits freedom of speech or a free press, especially not Britain. And the EU is governed by a self-appointed, unelected elite. There is zero democracy in the EU; it is an actual dictatorship.

And we have Antifas armed mobs physically attacking peaceful demonstrators who disagree with them. In the case of Portland, Mayor Wheeler and police Agency Executive Outlaw (how perfect) actively encourage and instigate the mobs and protect them from the police.

Will the other shoe drop? Will right wing armed mobs fight in the streets with Antifas? Would you fight? Whose would you be on?

Read C.Wright Mills "The Power Elite". Capitalized because the Power Elite is now completely Liberal aka Progressive aka Leftist.

I think you know that. And are just lying - as usual.

Mastercard and Wells Fargo are out there explicitly saying they are denying service to conservatives and gun owners, and banning gun companies from using their services. They are threatening other sites like Patreon with the loss of revenue and use of credit card processing unless those sites also censor and ban conservatives.

I'm sure Cook is juuuuuuust fine with all of that. Corporations never, never support the left! Correct, Cook?

A couple of years back I watched a good deal of RT in a hotel that carried the channel. I was astounded at how sophisticated the propaganda was. They mimicked the style of the US networks and had lots of interviews with dissatisfied Americans on both sides of the political spectrum. Watch some RT if you want to get a sense of what Putin is up to.

The reason all the polls in the west are wrong is because you can no longer safely admit you're a conservative so conservatives are forced into the Shadows. This guy seems pretty well-informed politically so I'm guessing he knows that but he doesn't care. All he wants is his side to win

I got to watch some RT while traveling last year, and yes, the production is slick.

It's easy to correct for the bias; what's interesting is that they treat the viewer like an adult, and I saw American faces on shows that I used to see on US media . . . but they've been non-personed by the latter for asking the wrong questions and having bad attitudes. (Not that I even agree with them.)

Bully to RT for allowing YM even that much time, and to him for saying what he did, which has been so obviously true for a decade at least, in Russia and the West.

They also took Larry King, and welcome!

Not new and not confined to banks.

Back in the 70's, when I worked for Alcon, one of our products was a Belladonna & Opium suppository. Part of the process required dissolving the opium in alcohol.

We did this, and other similar processes, in a blending room. The raw opium was only ever in the room for an hour or two. It was stored in a bank vault down the hall and then went directly into a molten wax in another room.

Because we were working with raw opium, DEA said the room could only have one entrance/exit.

Because we were working with alcohol, OSHA said that the room must have 2 exits.

We complied with DEA since they could pull our license to buy raw opium and kill the product. All OSHA could do was fine us. Irked my boss, the general manager, to no end since every year he had to report the OSHA violation to his boss. His boss understood the reason and the decision had been made at the corporate level but it was still a check mark on his annual report.

Since OSHA is under Sec Labor and DEA under Attorney General, nobody other than the president could have resolved this.

Are liberal westerners realizing for the first time (in 2019) that democracies are the exception not the rule?

Where was this Dude during the Cold War?

Also, "Constitutional Republic" is a better, more precise term than "democracy." At least for the US.

You like federalism? I do, in the abstract, but on the ground it means a whole lot of paperwork proving progressive bonafides so the state can give the historical society some state publication grant money; state of course is jumping through Fed hoops.

So unpaid volunteers who have more than enough to do also have to sign pledges, post notices,
pass diversity training, and triangulate the society's membership and activities according to
the latest whims of our elites.
