DJT tweeted his endorsement for The Real Deal by Geo. Sorial this AM. So I downloaded it and have listened to the first half at the Gymn this PM. Sorial writes a very good story since it is all first hand reality. Turns out that Sorial and Trump both had mothers from Stornoway, Isle of Lewis, Scotland, and his dad was a coptic Egyptian builder.
Anyway, the real deal refers to the boss DJT has been in the 10 years leading up to 2015. I highly recommend it.
What a glorious day today in the general area north east of Boston MA. Spectacular sunshine, low 70's, mid-afternoon shower that cleared out any damp air. This is why I live here. Did 21 miles on the bike through Ipswich, Hamilton, Wenham, Danvers, and Topsfield. Only a couple of obnoxious car/truck drivers. Puttered around the rest of the day.
Can't seem to get my mechanical wall clock to work. Runs fine without the pendulum, stalls after five minutes or so with the pendulum in place. Tried to raise and lower the bob, no luck. Back at it tomorrow.

From the WSJ today. General Dunford is Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff "A senior administration official said that Gen. Dunford initially had supported the plan earlier in the day".
In other words, the military changed its mind about the planned "raid" and recommended to Trump that he not follow through. Trump listened to their advice and canceled the raid. My God, the chaos and unprofessionalism at the WH. Trump allowed himself to be swayed by his military advisors. Oh, the horror!
I just finished "The British are Coming" by Rick Atkinson. In it Atkinson describes how George Washington wanted to launch a frontal/amphibious assault across the Charles against the British in Boston. His staff was ultimately able to talk him out of what would have been a disaster. Oh, the chaos and unprofessionalism in Washington's headquarters!

I have two with the same problem. Leveled every which way, blew dust out of back with clean compressed air. Lubed with silicone spray. Have run one for two weeks or so without pendulum in hopes it would 'fix itself'. No success.
The last pendulum clock in my life belonged to my grandparents 50 years ago. They had to pull the weights every day or two in some way to keep it running.

Different topic (but it's a cafe, right?). The current fad for putting political significance on pronouns has made it very difficult for me to read newspaper accounts and understand what is happening. Here's an example from a report about the Colorado school shooting: "McKinney also told investigators that she had specific targets at the school in mind, but "wanted everyone in that school to suffer from trauma like he has in his life and to realize that the world is a bad place.""
I think this means "McKinney also told investigators that McKinney had specific targets at the school in mind, but "wanted everyone in that school to suffer from trauma like McKinney has in McKinney's life and to realize that the world is a bad place."" But I object to being forced to read a sentence three times to understand its meaning. As in my example, if newspaper writers/editors feel strongly on this, I recommend they eliminate pronouns altogether and just use the nouns that the pronouns would traditionally have been used to replace. I know people will say that this formulation is clunky (4 "McKinney"s in a single sentence. But it gains in clarity what it loses in graceful expression.

I have a Seth Thomas mantle clock that I lifted out of a trash can when I was nine. Some one had died and the family apparently thew out the unwanted possessions. I took it home and my grandfather got it working again. It has worked for 70 years so far but needs some work, maybe new springs. It will run an d keep time but stops at odd times. I just ordered a book on chiming clocks to see what I can learn about it
Self identified liberals who move from a high-tax blue state to a low-tax red state should be denied voting rights for a period of say ....... a lifetime. (I kid, sort of.)
oh, and Teen Vogue is defending its decision to publish a graphic tutorial to anal sex for children and teenagers, titled "This is anal 101, for teens, beginners and all inquisitive folk, A Guide to Anal Sex."
“Here is the lowdown on everything you need to know about butt stuff,” the writer declared. OH, it was the lowdown on Everything you need to know, except The original article did not include any references to practicing safe sex – but was later amended to include a line about condoms being “non-negotiable.”

whatever you do, don't use wd-40; for our grandfather clocks wd-40 was verbotten. you're supposed to use whale oil; i have no idea where you're supposed to buy new bottles of that at

If you go to any of the tourist stops in Boston you will learn that Paul Revere and the other riders (he wasn't the only one) were spreading the word that "The regulars are coming", as in the professional British soldiers, and they were coming to disarm the militia - the unruly British colonists. It was well after the start of the Revolution before the people who were of British descent stopped thinking of themselves as British. The Dutch in the Hudson Valley and the various types of Germans (There was no Germany) likely never viewed themselves as British.
Read an interesting article once about digitizing old music master tapes. Not only are some of them playable on only a couple of still operating machines (Sinatra 3-track masters was the example given), but old tapes lubricated with whale oil were otherwise great. Newer tapes from the late 60s on with synthetic oil tended to catch and wrinkle. The fix was to bake them *very* carefully, and then they would play fine -- once. And they could not be baked again. Imagine having one shot to get the master of say, Astral Weeks played and ripped, and if you blew it, that was it..

You must think Althouse is an idiot to fall that bullshit. You do realize she graduated law school and taught classrooms of college students Con Law for many years? And yet, you continue to play the moron who thinks he has a clever excuse the cop hasn't heard before:
"These drugs aren't yours? You say someone must have stolen your car, left the drugs on the passenger seat, and parked your car back in your driveway before you woke up this morning? OKay. Sir, I'm going to need you to exit the vehicle..."
You aren't intelligent enough to see how transparent your gambit it. It's entertaining.
That seems improbable the colonists were alienated from the time of the Boston massacre and the stamp act, and it probably wasn't unique to boston.
There was a good history on that recently, I forget where. If you read between the lines, it sounds like the Boston massacre was very similar to Kent State - protesters throwing chunks of concrete at (and wounding) unseasoned troops who panicked and opened fire, ie. we were responsible for starting the Boston massacre that would later be turned into a patriotic rallying cry.
It sounds plausible, but anti-American deconstructionism is so in vogue that I'm skeptical.
OKay. Sir, I'm going to need you to exit the vehicle...
BTW, if you come across "okay" with the first TWO letters capitalized, that's a white supremacist dog whistle, akin to two christians drawing arcs in the sand that make a "fish".

For the first time in my life, I have an office manager that is younger than I am. It doesn't make much difference. I decided not to go into management years ago and remain in one of the independent parts of the company where the profits are and thus we are left alone. I've hardly acknowledged him in the year he has been there.
I decided it was time to be polite and talk. I texted him and asked for a meeting. Goodness, this was a mistake. The young with a sense of power and a delusion of wisdom make them unbearable to listen to. I remained polite, asking about his life and ambitions. It was like listening to a young actress getting an Oscar.
The TMT (Thirty Meter Telescope) being built on Mauna Kea has received its final approval and will start construction within days. A group of vocal protesters has threatened to shut it down by any means neccessary. The perpetual protesters are mostly from the Hawaiian Studies Department at UH Manoa, which is on another island. If you love science, support the TMT!
"Some historians in the late nineteenth-early twentieth centuries considered the battle to be the opening salvo of the American Revolution, and locals agreed with this assessment."
The young with a sense of power and a delusion of wisdom make them unbearable to listen to.
Worse is the dawning realization that many of their amateur mistakes will affect you directly.
It's why I ditched my Biomedical Engineering decree when I went back to school after the Marine Corps. After leading tank platoons through northern Africa you think you can accomplish anything. So I quickly switched my major to Lap Dancer Studies.
Did you know your average Lap Dancer doesn't land a Whale to fund her boob job until at least her 6th month on stage? It's inhumane. That's what inspired me to become an activist for their cause. "The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF) found itself in hot water last week when an investigation by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel revealed that thousands of firearms and firearm parts had been stolen from an ATF gun-destruction facility in West Virginia.
According to the report, a contract security guard at the facility has been stealing federal property since 2016, including automatic rifles, semi-automatic handguns, Glock slides, magazines, and scopes. The ATF is being cagey about how many firearms the guard stole, but his plea agreement indicates that he nabbed at least 3,000 Glock slides, over 4,000 firearm parts, fifteen rifles, eighty handguns, and nine NFA Class III firearms."
NFA Class III firearms? Read: machine guns.
When guns are outlawed, not even the ATF will have guns. Ha.
this Just In college majors with the highest unemployment The data found the mass-media industry had the highest unemployment rate at 7.8 percent. The analysis noted the industry has seen layoffs recently and a decrease in career growth.
Coming in second was liberal arts with an unemployment rate of 6.7 percent. The analysis stated those who studied liberal arts may find it difficult to choose a career due to its “broad nature.”
Interestingly, as Fen has noted, the “broad nature" of liberal arts majors careers is often helped by the insertion of saline bags. The same is probably also true for many mass media majors
I was imprecise. It runs without the pendulum but fast, very fast. The pendulum is supposed to slow it down so that it keeps accurate time. The position of the weight on the pendulum is adjustable to fine tune the timekeeping accuracy. I'm experimenting with that adjustment. No luck so far, keeps stopping after a few minutes. Perhaps there's a metaphor in that.
Found a website that is informative and helpful with troubleshooting mechanical clockworks.
"I have two with the same problem. Leveled every which way, blew dust out of back with clean compressed air. Lubed with silicone spray. Have run one for two weeks or so without pendulum in hopes it would 'fix itself'. No success." Friction. Age and gravity is messing with your clock. Find a horologist and take it there. Just a couple of sugestions. Don't use compressed air. It not only blows dust out it also blows dust into places it shouldn't be. Like bearing surfaces. Don't us a silicon lubricant. It leaves a residue that attracts dust. Dust is a very fine abtasive. Without the pendulum the clock can run but wont keep very goog time. The pendulum is a regulator. "Acuracy is the sum total of your compromises"

Anyway, the Joan Baez song “Winds of the Old Days” was definitely about Dylan’s "Rolling Thunder Revue.” It synchs with her comments in her interview for the movie. “Diamonds and Rust” I kind of inferred on memory of it, but now I see that the Rolling Thunder tour was a big theme of the two songs she wrote herself on that album which came out in 1975.
I have a rule about not calling out typos, but that comment would have made more sense quicker if you spelled Johnny Cash right. Funny song. I was wondering “Who’s Johnny Cass?"
In the end, the words of my father inspired me to continue the fight. He said, “In my life, I’ve done everything I could to treat all people with dignity and respect. And now, nearing the end of my life, I’m going to die being labeled as a racist.”. Gibson about Oberlin
Doesn’t he know “racist” is just a word he doesn’t own? Simpleton. Plus only he should be at economic risk in this fight, not the college. I think. Bluto Blotarski summed up Althouse’s thinking pretty well in Animal House: “We’re college kids, we can do anything we want!"
I have a rule about not calling out typos, my apologies, if i was going to have a typo, that was a BAD place for it i might as well have called him, the man in back
“According to the report, a contract security guard at the facility has been stealing federal property since 2016, including automatic rifles, semi-automatic handguns, Glock slides, magazines, and scopes.”
Why Glock slides? I thought that weird. Slides are not the serialized part for polymer handguns like Glocks, so have little ATF oversight. The only thing that I can think of is that the thief was removing and stealing the slides because they weren’t serialized, so are harder to trace, had almost half the value of the Glocks, allowed the serialized lowers to still be destroyed as required, and then properly recorded as destroyed.
Which gets me to one of the weird things about the sort of tracing of guns and the forensics we see so frequently on TV shows. Police will somehow acquire a handgun, fire it into, say, water, recover the spent rounds, and then the CSI techs will compare and match those bullets to those recovered at a crime scene, or from a body. But anyone who shoots semiautomatic handguns like Glocks knows that field stripping them is one of the first things that you lean to do, and guns like Glocks have four easily separable parts: lower; upper; barrel; and spring. I have seen a Glock field stripped in maybe 30 seconds by one of our instructors. Probably could reassemble with a different barrel in another 30 seconds. I take a couple minutes, mostly to get the slide catches just right. Everyone seems to make Glock aftermarket barrels (I am sitting right now in Sandpoint, about 20 miles from Lone Wolf Distributing, that sells an extensive selection of such barrels). My question then is why not acquire a second barrel for a semiautomatic handgun you expect to use to commit a crime. Use that barrel in the crime, then switch back to the original before the cops get the gun from you? We are talking a bit over $100. Replacing firing pins is a little harder, but not extremely so. Plenty of videos online to show you how.
Am re-reading Hazony's The Virtue of Nationalism; hope it gains a wide audience.
I saw Tucker Carlson's description of John Bolton mentioned here yesterday (I think) by someone (Farmer commented on it, supra): which is why when I read the Conservative Nationalism conference notice, that they are both of them making 'keynote' speeches, my eyebrows raised.

"The British are Coming" is B.S. They were all British.
Just like Spain vs the colonies in the independence movement, there is a point when the latter dont consider themselves part of the former.
Like the independence movements in the EU, Catalan Brexit, italexit

It's a schizophrenic sentence, it means anybody was fair game some more than others.
okay, i just saw two news stories side by side;
1)Former Vice President and current presidential candidate Joe Biden promised Saturday that on "Day One" of a Biden presidency he would repeal President Trump's 2017 tax cuts and close $500 billion on tax loopholes.
2)Carol Roth: No, Teen Vogue, you should not promote prostitution as a career choice
So, unemployment is at Record lows, and Jo Biden says Job 1 is to change that, meanwhile Teen Vogue is encouraging our daughters to become hookers
please let me know which is more indicative of how out of touch main stream america is?
Can't seem to get my mechanical wall clock to work.
Pete Buttsexsex tries to read talking points off a piece of paper while Black Lives Matter protesters yell at him:
BLM: “You expect black people to vote for you?”
Pete: “I’m not asking for your vote.”
BLM: “You’re not going to get it.”

oh, and Teen Vogue is defending its decision to publish a graphic tutorial to anal sex for children and teenagers, titled
"This is anal 101, for teens, beginners and all inquisitive folk, A Guide to Anal Sex."
“Here is the lowdown on everything you need to know about butt stuff,” the writer declared.
OH, it was the lowdown on Everything you need to know, except
The original article did not include any references to practicing safe sex – but was later amended to include a line about condoms being “non-negotiable.”

whatever you do, don't use wd-40; for our grandfather clocks wd-40 was verbotten. you're supposed to use whale oil; i have no idea where you're supposed to buy new bottles of that at
surprise!
they make synthetic whale oil (which they do NOT call synthetic whale oil), and you can buy it through the portal

The Dutch in the Hudson Valley and the various types of Germans (There was no Germany) likely never viewed themselves as British.
whale oil in space? Used by NASA?
it doesnt freeze in sub zero temps-- best lubricant around
would they admit it?
this has been 'bunked' and debunked
That seems improbable the colonists were alienated from the time of the Boston massacre and the stamp act, and it probably wasn't unique to boston.

What does that mean?
I think it just means you have to be logged into some account blogger finds acceptable to comment. Obviously it doesn't mean you have to have a real name attached to it.

Lovely day on my little island.
My advice on Osama bin Laden raid would have been to doxx him and see cockroaches in Pakistan.

Well that would be difficult because he was living under the protection of the isi and the Pakistani army (with friends like these)

I have a long loathing for television news programming, but if there is a show on the air worth watching, Carlson's would be it.
Boston was a Puritan town and the governor general and the king were Church of England. The American Revolution grew out of the English Civil Wars.
The defeat of the French in Canada freed Americans to act on their resentments against rule from across the ocean.
Well that and the colonists has to pay for the war, that could make you cranky.

We can reasonably assume hes drunk a lot of flint water, I think he drinks from the Sam's cantime as David frenxh.
The one by Nathaniel philbrick? Yes there was some propaganda to the charge,
OKay. Sir, I'm going to need you to exit the vehicle...
BTW, if you come across "okay" with the first TWO letters capitalized, that's a white supremacist dog whistle, akin to two christians drawing arcs in the sand that make a "fish".
Adjust accordingly. Or just chill if you are secure with your race and culture.
"The one by Nathaniel philbrick?"
WTF. See, this is why I will never get a big head at Althouse. How did you do that? ESP? :)
The mindstone obviously, of course modern educators dont find that particularly justifiable if they were protesting for health care or transgenderism that would be something different
The 1905 Russian revolution was sparked much the same way. There was a protest outside the czarist palice

A group of vocal protesters has threatened to shut it down by any means neccessary. The perpetual protesters are mostly from the Hawaiian Studies Department at UH Manoa, which is on another island. If you love science, support the TMT!
Do the TNMT support the TMT?
Don't forget about the world-famous 1771 Battle of Alamance Creek, which Wiki calls the final skirmish of 1765-71 War of the Regulation between the western NC Piedmont and the royal government.
"Some historians in the late nineteenth-early twentieth centuries considered the battle to be the opening salvo of the American Revolution, and locals agreed with this assessment."
The young with a sense of power and a delusion of wisdom make them unbearable to listen to.

Ha.
https://www.gunsamerica.com/digest/atf-caught-w-pants-down/
wow! Humperdink!
I stopped at the "automatic rifles", and laughed!
Then, when i got to the NFA Class III firearms, i stopped laughing
of course, they could have just been sawed off shot-guns
which would put me back laughing at automatic rifles
On the potential bright side, maybe the security guard was going to participate in a gun buy-back program.

college majors with the highest unemployment
The data found the mass-media industry had the highest unemployment rate at 7.8 percent.
Hump, i think he listened to the Johnny Cass song, One Piece at a Time; one time too many

Found a website that is informative and helpful with troubleshooting mechanical clockworks.
https://www.theclockdepot.com/
"I have two with the same problem. Leveled every which way, blew dust out of back with clean compressed air. Lubed with silicone spray. Have run one for two weeks or so without pendulum in hopes it would 'fix itself'. No success."
Friction.

Anyway, the Joan Baez song “Winds of the Old Days” was definitely about Dylan’s "Rolling Thunder Revue.” It synchs with her comments in her interview for the movie. “Diamonds and Rust” I kind of inferred on memory of it, but now I see that the Rolling Thunder tour was a big theme of the two songs she wrote herself on that album which came out in 1975.
i think he listened to the Johnny Cass song,
I have a rule about not calling out typos, but that comment would have made more sense quicker if you spelled Johnny Cash right.
Here’s the correct Oberlin meme, which has been banned by FB, I guess.

i might as well have called him, the man in back
“According to the report, a contract security guard at the facility has been stealing federal property since 2016, including automatic rifles, semi-automatic handguns, Glock slides, magazines, and scopes.”
“the man in back”
LOL.
Hes more an American nationalist, not a neocon, as the csp briefing paper points out
