The story is that in the great custody battle between Gloria's aunt and her mom, the court was going to render its decision after the weekend, One of the NYC newspapers ran the headline "Sic Transit Gloria Monday". Well, that's the story.
The popular rich girls in junior high had tight Gloria Vanderbilt jeans with the little swan. It was a thing, and then it wasn't. Fashion - and seventh grade popular rich girls - so fickle.
I vaguely remember that she was the original poor little rich girl. After a rocky start, she seems to have had a good life. She was much hotter at ninety than most women.
Ann Althouse said... Cooper did an HBO documentary about his mother, "Nothing Left Unsaid." It's streamable here (with an HBO subscription, presumably).
I've watched it and thought it was quite good.

I forget the proper way to draw Althouse's attention to a story worth covering, but she, and everybody, if they would like a referral, should watch the drama Chernobyl, broadcast on HBO. Some of the most astonishing television I have ever seen:
When in college I rented a room from a woman who claimed that she had been a private secretary for one of the Vanderbilts. She said that she was barred from attending one of their parties because nice people shouldn't see such goings on. The secretary herself had a interesting story, born in French Algeria, married to the Belgian court physician, who abused her, then divorced and ending up in NYC.
I never gave much thought to her until I read several years ago about how another son, Carter Cooper, jumped to his death from the balcony of her Manhattan apartment. Here's how she described it:
"All the time, I still run through it," she said. "There was a moment when...he did not jump. He was sitting on the wall thirteen floors up, on the balcony. With one foot on there and one foot hanging down, he kept looking down.
"I kept begging him too...and then when he went, he went like an athlete and hung over the wall like this. I said, 'Carter, come back,' and for a minute I thought he was going to come back, but he didn't. He let go. There was a moment when I thought I was going to jump after him. But then I thought of you [Anderson Cooper] and it stopped me from doing that."
I didn't realize that Anderson Cooper is a Vanderbilt . Isn't it Interesting, that all these Truth to Power people... .End up Being the Rich and Powerful? It's Almost like the Whole Thing is a Sham
This was a great tribute to a mother. A very famous mother to be sure, but still she was Cooper's mother. He loved her and she loved him. I do not agree with his politics but I respect his tribute to her. Politics has nothing to do with the love of a mother and a son.
Lovely tribute. First jeans I ever bought were a green wide wale Gloria Vanderbilt pair.
Lucid, well dayum, I missed all the perversity at Vanderbilt. And you'd think, what with me part of the theatre crowd, I'd have seen it. Most perverse thing I ever saw was the physics prof who wore the same yellow sweater to class every day. Your mileage for perversity may vary.
Found your post interesting to read. I can’t wait to see your post soon. Good Luck for the upcoming update. This article is really very interesting and effective.

Thanks for posting this. I watch so little CNN that I would have missed it otherwise.

Coop sure doesn't know much her life. "Really?"
There are a lot of similarities between Gloria's pool and Tony Podesta's favorite art subjects...if you know what I mean.
@Lucid
Abromovich-ish??
That was poignant.
The Vanderbilt's (including the university) have had a long association with the Ambromovic's and heavy occult forces.

Pedophiles and degenerate evils. They are to be attacked and shunned like the outcasts they've always been, throughout history.

These are the most important 90 seconds of your lives
Althouse and Vanderbilt Architects.

I went to a dog show once, and one of the Jack Russell Terriers was named Anderson Pooper. No, I didn't make that up.
I really thought that when you went to journalism school, they taught not to make the news about yourself.
Visit Biltmore House if you have the chance.

Jesus. How does one go on after that?
Yeah, Biltmore is something.
Money doesn't stop shit happening.
I was surprised at her list of children. Stokowski?

Why didn't someone inform me?

Wonderful tribute by Anderson Cooper to his mother.
"It's Almost like the Whole Thing is a Sham"
Exactly right.
But not what you meant. Cause your drone.
Can't see The Sham at that level.
IMHO.
Who was Cooper's sperm donor? No ones seems to care about him.
I lost Anderson after his “Tea Bagging” humorous reportage.

I see your Blogger user name is meant as the opposite of the truth.
So that's where he came from?
Does anyone pull themselves up from the bootstraps anymore?
With a family like that is it any wonder that Anderson turned out gay?
John Henry
Known unknown,
Cornelius Vanderbilt did. Started with a single rowboat.
The only interesting Vanderbilt IMHO.
John Henry
Quite a lovely tribute.
