I wonder when Americans will start to look at the really horrific mess their government finances are in? I believe many are willfully looking away, treating themselves to bread and circuses. But Endgame is not just a movie.

As expected things are not going well for the socialist government of America.

In fact, the debt news is pretty grisly.

I read that book and had several objections to Cline’s conclusions. In the main, I don’t believe complex societies explode so much as they implode. In particular, there are several signs that society’s continuance depended on improvements in technology and it didn’t happen. Combine that with governmental sloth and corruption and they’re gone.

my REPORT FROM THE TWITTERVERSE:

There is some kind of shift in the Twitter universe, and I can't say it is bad.

there seems to be more real conversation going on between partisans in replies under flagship BigShot/NewsMedia/corporate tweets, and i find i am able to actually talk with total strangers who are "opponents" -- I'd say "rabid derangement" folks -- and reach them one-on-one in those little side conversations that no one else will follow, really get buried in a cruise of "the top layer".

but its very Cool.like I am kinda going door-to-door telling my fellows to consider my pitch, except with perfect strangers anywhere in the nation.

i can only hope the cracks in believability of the anti-trump narrative are showing, and folks are more curious to peek into the other side.

the rare times i had these kinds of deeper conversations in the past have been on our national election nights, and always with foreigners, where many curious people of the world come on to cruise american sites, and they plug into a conversation with americans and it is marvelous.

so its very cool to see something like that happening between more Americans. wahoo! haha

godspeed, america, it was a GREAT DAY.

We are doing Song for the Unsung Hero By Joseph and Pamela Martin on Memorial Day and we practiced it several times tonight at choir practice. The words and music were perfectly in keeping with our current times. It is very moving.

The lyrics "Those united by one purpose. All for one and one for all" seemed very appropriate again.

Opinion
James Comey: How Trump Co-opts Leaders Like Bill Barr
Accomplished people lacking inner strength can’t resist the compromises necessary to survive this president.

"...Mr. Trump eats your soul in small bites."

"...And then you are lost. He has eaten your soul."

Wikipedia:

"A soul eater is a folklore figure in the traditional belief systems of some African peoples, notably the Hausa people of Nigeria and Niger.

Belief in soul eaters is related to traditional folk beliefs in witchcraft, zombies, and related phenomena. The soul eater is supposedly able to consume an individual's spirit, causing a wasting disease that can be fatal; "the soul eater is a classical form of the cannibalistic witch".[1] In Hausa belief, the desire and capacity for the practice, termed maita, is rooted in special stones kept in a person's stomach. The trait allegedly can be inherited from one's parents, or can be acquired from an existing practitioner. The soul eater can take the form of a dog or other animal in pursuit of his or her practice[2]—a belief that connects with the beliefs in werewolves, werecats, selkies, and other were-creatures and human/animal beings found in world folklore.

Another belief about soul eaters is that they are men who were cursed by witches and have to eat the souls of humans to live their lives. After the soul eater devours a victim's soul, the victim disappears as dust.

The belief survived into African-American folklore in the United States and the Caribbean region. Related beliefs can be found in other traditional African cultures, like the Fulbe[3] and the Serer,[4] and in cultures outside of Africa too—such as in the tribes of the Mount Hagen area of Papua New Guinea.[5] The hix or ix of the Maya and related peoples is a comparable figure; the Pipil term teyollocuani translates literally as "soul eater".

Some traditional religions, from that of the ancient Egyptians to the Chickasaw, Choctaw, and Natchez, contain figures whose names have been translated into English as "soul eater". These mythological figures, however, are spiritual and not human beings, and so are distinctly different from Hausa and comparable beliefs.

The traditional belief in soul-eaters has been adopted by a range of modern horror fiction and fantasy writers, contemporary songwriters, and anime and video game creators for their own uses."

I saw during the Barr hearing that Mueller documented in his report that the Russians had hacked the DNC. I believe that eventually this point in the Mueller report will be debunked. In fact there is NO proof that the Russians did any such thing. The FBI NEVER examined the DNC servers. Instead, the DNC hired a third party, CrowdStrike, a cyber security firm, who then fabricated and delivered the “proof” to the FBI.

So the FBI doesn’t know shit except what CrowdStrike offered – which were “copies” of the so-called evidence. Sorry – doesn’t pass the smell test – as Biden might say …

Another thing. The Democrats keep threatening to have Mueller dragged before the committee to be questioned. I hope that happens but I kind of doubt it will. You see, Mueller’s boss, Attorney General Barr, would necessarily be listening closely to every word and Mueller would HAVE to answer questions truthfully. Truth is not the Democrat’s friend at this point in history. Some among the Dems may realize this.

Lastly, there’s a lot of fake news lately based on polling results. Quite simply, the polls are shit. They were shit during the 2016 campaign and they are shit now. The pollsters want mightily to be interviewed on the cables. It’s a million dollars worth of free publicity each time a they appear on TV. So the pollsters give CNN, MSNBC and the rest of the fake news corporations what they want.

Readers, you will know Trump’s popularity is waning if the crowds stop coming to his rallies, which are a much more reliable indicator of Trump’s popularity than any shit poll.

BAG,
The NYT Times article sounds more like "I'm guilty as hell and I'm going to do everything I can to take this MF down with me".

No one, especially the former head of the FBI, talks like that. You can almost hear the panic in his voice.

Comey is the path to HRC. As I keep saying, check out where he made his millions, and how he leapfrogged to FBI Head. I think he realizes he has two paths now. Fall on the sword, or have one put in his back. So many questions.

I came to YouTube rather late in the game. Until a few months ago I spent very little time viewing it. My latest enthusiasm is something called “reaction videos.”

And rather than fighting through the blizzard of fake news searching futilely for some concrete information I go to YouTube for much of my news.

Some other YouTube favorites:

Jordan Peterson, Joe Rogan, Sam Harris, Bret Weinstein and Dave Rubin.

YouTube or YouTube-like platforms are the coming thing. The cables are not going to die completely but I believe they will either change their ways (not likely) or become very peripheral to the YouTubes of the future.

I would be interested in what other commentors think about the YouTube phenomena.

Yancey Ward বলেছেন...

Grackle,

I consider YouTube to be a miracle of technology and social media. Pretty much anything you might need to do that you haven't done before, or do badly, you can find a video giving you a great step-by-step demonstration on how to do it right. Things like FaceBook will probably eventually die and be replaced, but I think YouTube will be going strong a quarter century from now. Probably was Google's very best purchase.

Churchy LaFemme: বলেছেন...

I hate video links, and if it is more than a minute long, will almost never watch. If you have something to say, write it down. If you must do a video, make a transcript.

“Marijuana lounges approved by Las Vegas City Council

Vegas, and really much of NV is weird when it comes to smoking tobacco. Weird because it is like an earlier era where there is smoking almost everywhere. The reason is that they make huge amounts of money from junkets from east Asia, esp, I think, from Japan and China, and smoking is still popular in those societies. Making it humorous, the casinos tend to be run and staffed a lot by Mormons, who aren’t supposed to smoke, gamble, or drink, at least in public. I have little doubt that there are still cigar bars there, as well as high end cigar stores. After all, how better to show the world through have made a big score there than with expensive champagne, expensive cigars, and an escort (high end hooker) on each elbow? Most of the casinos have ash trays at most of their slot machines and places at their gaming tables. Just comes with the territory.

One thing I find YouTube useful for is online shopping. The main thing you're missing is that feeling in the store when you pick up the item, and even the sense of how big it is. A YouTube review can't quite replace that, but it's still a lot better than the still pictures you might see at Amazon. It was helpful when I was buying a messenger bag, for instance.

Thanks for the tip but the only phone I have is a landline. I do not intend to spend my hard-earned loot on one of those too expensive and totally unnecessary smart phones. I view YouTube through Roku on my big screen TV.

One thing I find YouTube useful for is online shopping.

Oh yes. Me too. I’ve researched several purchases in that manner. Also, videos by experts on how to properly break down, clean and reassemble my pistols.

I had a snowmobile I couldn’t get started. Youtube showed me how to clean the carburetor and I had it going again after about a half hour, less time than it would take me to take it to the shop. I do it every year now. Many of the videos are frustrating because the person making them knows that he only has bout fifteen or thirty seconds worth of good material and he keeps stretching it out like a Discovey Channel documentary before telling you because he knows that the second he gets to it, you are going to stop watching. The ad’s up front doofus! Just tell me!

Youtube is a great source for how to videos. I have a set of ladder back chairs that have rush seats. The set are 50+ years old and the rush, which is woven, failed on one of them. I checked around locally for someone to redo the seat only to discover that it is silly expensive - costs more than it would to replace the entire chair. Googled it and found a video on youtube explaining how it is done. Bought the materials on Amazon for about $20 and spent a Saturday morning replacing the seat. Turned out great.

Love youtube - at least the DIY stuff.

If I had had access to the music lessons on YouTube as a young man, I likely would have wasted my life as a musician. It’s funny that there are sometimes a couple of small things that once you understand them, unlock whole new areas of musicianship. It wasn’t until YouTube that I have actually had people to ask me to play for them. Before YT, they just sort of tolerated it if I did it at all in front of anybody. Now I have a guy who plays out asking me to play keyboards in a little band he’s forming.

Molly বলেছেন...

I'd like to ask legal experts or anyone with an opinion, why (in light of so many trials for perjury, lying to Congress, lying to FBI) does anyone in the Trump ambit testify to anyone? Can't they just take the 5th, and then have their lawyers announce to the world that they took the 5th, not because the witness had done anything wrong, but because of the extensive history of secondary accusations about lying under oath. If a person just takes the 5th, that person can never be charged with perjury, can he?

Jaq বলেছেন...

Easy Molly, I know Lois Lerner took the Fifth like that and the press ignored it, and you only hear about it in right wing comment threads, but if one of Trump’s people took the fifth, it would be wall to wall coverage right up through the impeachment trial along with the same kinds of baseless insinuations of guit that we saw for two years of the Russia hoax.

Heard this on radio morning of 5/2/2019, https://www.npr.org/programs/morning-edition/2019/05/02/719304683, first thought was AA might be interested -- winner from Minnesota. Second thought was how astounding, a national poetry contest won by someone reciting an anti-abortion poem, and who knew there were actually anti-abortion poetry activists. Intriguing enough that I looked it up when I got to work (shame on me I guess) and found out it's only anti-abortion by (a pretty sensible) extension.
