Actually, from Ilhan Omar's point of view 9/11 was "some people did something" that she and her people - the Somalis - had nothing to do with and don't see why they should share in the blame for. 9/11 was a private enterprise operation engaged in by a group of Saudi Arabians, and there is no love lost between the Somalis and the Saudis, or any other Arabs for that matter. I think that for Omar the world is about her and her tribe, and it is grossly unfair to be blamed for something those dirty slave trading Arabs did.
There is hardly any mention of it, but the U.S. Gov't is negotiating with the Taliban and the Afghan government in preparation for US military forces leaving the country.
I think they are kidding themselves if they are negotiating for anything but that there be no shooting on their way out. Once the US is gone, it will be 1842 again as far as the Taliban is concerned regardless of what might have been promised at these "negotiations."
During Operation Restore Hope we would roll out of Baderra every morning to escort grain trucks and medicine to one village or another we would always pass by this group up huts.
And every time this cute little girl would be waving at us so we would throw her the candy packet from our MREs. She had most of us charmed.
Basil is my favourite herb to grow because it smells lovely, I always grow 8-10 basil plants every summer to be used on field tomatoes in July/August and to freeze in cubes for soups and stews during winter.

We are so screwed. America is going to lead the world safely through these multitudes of crisis (crisi ?) ... only to look up and see that we saved the world to populate China's colonization of the solar system.
Nice collection of herbs. Fresh herbs are so great for cooking. Got to have those chives for the omelet! I was happy to see that my English thyme, and tarragon, survived the winter under the little hoop tent I made for them, and the rosemary as well.
Nasturtiums, as you probably know, are edible, and very decorative. Mangia, mangia as Nonna says.
I have a flower shoot on one of my columbines, to give you an idea of where spring is here. A bit further along than yours, but at least you don't have to be worried about being flooded by the ocean, due to melting polar ice if the Earth warms, or subsidence from the glaciers if it cools.
My father took me to watch Andre the Giant when I was a sprout. I forget the name of my "hero". Von something who employed "the claw" on your head like the vulcan nerve pinch.

The French once had the greatest Reformation teacher of them all. A French Trial lawyer turned theology teacher. He converted many of his fellow Frenchmen, later to be called the Huguenots. They became wealthy Reform Christians. But the Catholic Jesuits had the King of France order a French Inquisition to pillage their property and slaughter them, like the King of Spain had done to the Conversos called the Spanish Inquisition. But in 1789 the French Revolution took a revenge for that on the King of France and the Catholic Aristocracy. Today Catholics in France are 5% of the population.
@stevew, the Honorable Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez, would be happier if you took the train from Boston to New York. There are stretches south of Boston where the Acela hits 150 mph.
I bought a hanging basket of delectable smelling rosemary ~ having been assured by every gardener I know that it's impossible to kill ~ and it shriveled up and died within a week. Puzzled, I went back to the nursery where the lady sold me another one and told me I'd probably overwatered the first and to give it no water beyond rainwater. I hung it on the same hook on the patio pergola I'd hung its predecessor and hoped for the best. That night it got a thorough soaking due to a rainstorm but hey, wild rosemary gets rained on right? Well, it's shriveling up like the other one, albeit a bit more slowly. Ideas?
My little garden is coming to a close, just in time to see me off to cooler climes. Too hot. I had chard, tomatoes, basil, cilantro and nasturtiums. The nasturtiums are still doing fine. The last of the chard was too bitter due to the heat as it's a cool weather crop. It's been up to 100 already. I started the garden in October and it has done very well.
NY Post "A New Jersey man was busted Wednesday night after walking into St. Patrick’s Cathedral with two full gasoline cans, according to law enforcement sources.
The 37-year-old man entered the Midtown church with two red, 1-gallon [later reports say 2-gallon gas cans with igniters] and was near the pews when he was spotted and grabbed by security, sources said. [No, security stopped him but he turned around and walked out of the building and was later grabbed by cops.]
Police believe the liquid inside the cans is gasoline." [It was.]

I don't think so. I'm predicting that China will implode, and then break up, very similar to what happened to the USSR and for very similar reasons.
Can we please change the spelling of "flowers" to "flahrs"? That's how I pronounces it. There may be a problem with metre, but that can be fixed by recognizing that "hrs" is a syllable. If "Y" can be both a vowel and a consonant, why can't "H" be both a vowel and a consonant? In this case, the vowel "H" would be unique in that it represents an absence of vibrating the vocal chords. Like a consonant.
Since the media and the Democrats will try to "frame the narrative" by purposely mischaracterizing the Mueller report, here is my idea: Barr should replace all of the transcript quotes in the Mueller report with Bazooka Joe Bubblegum dialog. I don't believe that will be a problem, Narciso. Nuclear bombs are difficult to maintain. You need an army of scientists & techs to keep them operable. Also you need a delivery system. I think the smaller the bombs, like the rumored "suit case bombs," the more difficult the bombs are to maintain. "Difficult" as in "needs the resources of a nation state."

@Hagar, interesting insight, but Omar needs to be aware that non-Arab Muslims making common cause with al Qaeda certainly suggests that the battle is between the USA and all of Islam.
I wonder if there is some veiled significance to the fact that the Mueller Report is being issued today on Patriot’s Day, the anniversary of Paul Revere’s famous ride. Yes, I know it’s a Monday holiday in Massachusetts, but today is the actual 244th anniversary. The famous poem doesn’t get the facts right, but it’s significant all the same. But who is the alarm being raised for and who is it warning against?
@Misplaced Pants, back in graduate school a girlfriend (and for 44 years now she’s been my wife) gave me a philodendron. I killed it. She married me anyway, but the only chores she has me do in the garden are pulling out dead annuals and spreading mulch.
Rosemary really hates wet roots and good soil. Unless your hanging basket drains extremely well, you may be out of luck. On the other hand, here on the 36th parallel I planted rosemary (variety Arp, cold-tolerant) in a toxic little 2 foot square of red clay surrounded by concrete and foundation on all four sides, but with a southern exposure, It’s just under the eaves, and i never water it. Every few years i have to prune it brutally, and it always comes back as big as ever. Covered with flowers all winter long. Makes me happy. Tastes good too.
I am happy to be on the other side of the pond for this one. Though in the airport lounge yesterday CNN was on with the chryon “What if Fox News covered Trump the way they covered Obama?” I can’t believe that it never occurred to them that people would instantly ask “What if CNN covered Obama the way they are covering Trump” or “Covered Trump the way they covered Obama”
They had a panel of maybe eight people with the same opinions. Why bother? Here you have a bunch of protesters that are shutting down traffic in central London and have apparently dragged a boat into the middle of "Oxford Circus” whatever that is, and left it there to block traffic. Krazy is knee deep wherever you go, I guess.
Replying to Fen on vaccination and scientific method. You may be correct, but the anti-vaxers aren't helping because they are not clearly enunciating their basis. So pro-vaxers say quite clearly: 1. Our assertion is that vaccinations are safe. 2. if our assertion is wrong, this is the type of evidence that one should see. 3. We have many many studies that looked for that evidence and did not find it. (And I agree climate change arguments seem to go 1. Our assertion is climate change. 2. There is no kind of evidence that would indicate that our assertion is wrong, because our assertion is right and if you even look for evidence that our assertion is wrong it's because you are anti-science.) But if anti-vaxers are saying 1. Our assertion is that there are ways effectively to protect children from disease that are better than the existing vaccination; they need to follow that up with 2 if our assertion is wrong this is type of evidence you would see. And I don't think they want to do that because the evidence would need to be (a) that vaccinations are safe in all (most?) cases and (b) that our alternative suggestions are not safe or not effective. I'm afraid that would lead to 3. "Oops. we have many studies that are consistent with that evidence."
Vaccines are not safe but kill a lot fewer people than the condition they protect against, so you're better off vaccinating the population.
Of course if everybody else is protected, you can skip your own vaccination, but that stops working if it catches on.
There's a vaccine court to protect vaccine makers against lawsuits because otherwise nobody would make vaccines. They'd have to pay damages for taking lives while getting no benefit from saving lives, so it's an all-negative business proposition.
...Omar needs to be aware that non-Arab Muslims making common cause with al Qaeda certainly suggests that the battle is between the USA and all of Islam.
True and not true. Islam is an evangelical religion determined to convert or exterminate all infidels, but that is for the long term. In the mean time, here on earth, there are 1400 years worth of inter-tribal animosities, schisms, imperial ambitions, etc., to fight over and get revenge for prior defeats, insults, and other indignities.
The US Gov't got into the Viet Nam mess from imagining "World Communism" to be a single monumental bloc to be fought on an ideological basis wherever it reared its ugly head - the Domino Theory and all that. We should not repeat that mistake with "World Islam."

Weather is absolutely delightful though.

"Oops. we have many studies that are consistent with that evidence."
the Mueller Report is being issued today on Patriot’s Day, the anniversary of Paul Revere’s famous ride.
Paul Revere's dad was a Huguenot, named Apollon Rivoire.
We should not repeat that mistake with "World Islam."

ho chi minh, survived the stalin purges, and received support from maoist china, and along the red river, followed their methods, this is unlike with bin laden, who took our support but relied on the kingdom and Pakistan, for philosophical underpinnings,
Mr Wentzel, Chaucer placed liquor as a rhyme to flower so I detect a Norman slant to the word flower. Regardless of your southern brothers. Of which I am one.
