From the NYT report:
"It was definitely not me,” Mr. Northam, a Democrat, told reporters at a news conference in the governor’s mansion. “I can tell by looking at it.”Yes, but you said it was "a photograph of me." How can you get that wrong? Did it look like something you might have done?
Pressed on why he initially apologized, Mr. Northam said he had wanted to “take credit for recognizing that this was a horrific photo that was on my page with my name on it.”
The governor called the images, which first surfaced Friday afternoon, “offensive, racist and despicable.” But he said that “I cannot in good conscience choose the path that would be easier for me to duck the responsibility to reconcile.”For reasons I develop in my earlier post today, I'm inclined to approve of his not resigning. But this is weirder than it was before, and now we have not only decades-old behavior to judge but current behavior. It's not very reliable of him to say one thing and then another. Is he lying or simply confused and given to speaking without thinking? And then there's this new blackface incident:
[He revealed that he] had darkened his face with shoe polish for a Michael Jackson costume in a dance contest in Texas in 1984, when he was a young Army officer....And there's the fact that as an undergraduate student he had the nickname "Coonman." And then there was his mixed-up or downright evil statement about very late-term abortions. To me, it looks like it was the abortion material that made him a target and led someone to decide to rid the Democratic Party of him by dropping the old photograph. I'd like to know the background on that, but it's not in the NYT article.
ADDED: This is the highest-rated comment at the Times:
I am a black man, but I am not offended by the photo, though it is obviously in poor taste.
It looks like a joke to me, since Klansmen and black men don't generally have a beer together. Probably because they called him "coons man" in College.
It seems that my Party (Democrats) can't seem to avoid falling into one identity pothole after another, and the circular firing squad is in full force again.
If this keeps up, I will be staying home in November of 2020. Or, I might try to find Al Franken, to console him on his earlier electronic lynching.

Inga now denying, in real time, the at least 100 Million humans killed in the communist "experiments" of the 20th century.
All those millions....don't even exist to Inga. They never existed to the left. They never existed at all.
No wonder Inga will never criticize the mass murderers of MS13, islamic supremacists, illegal aliens, etc.
Inga won't write the names of illegal alien murder victims.
A hundred million murdered by commies. Inga's response? Nothing.
But Heather Heyer get's 10,000 mentions.
She counts. Because she serves the cause.”
Drago, maybe you’re not a professional propagandist afterall, I think you may just be plain old nuts
I am not talking about the Green Grocer.
That person is not a believer.
How are the believers reprogrammed?
How does Walter Duranty print the truth, ever?
She grew up in the former Yugoslavia, she knows what propaganda is about
Sorry walter.
We tried to reach your next of kin but they were displaced by waters that have risen 1500 meters due to Al Gore's movie.
Inga: "Drago, maybe you’re not a professional propagandist afterall, I think you may just be plain old nuts."
Inga now claims it is "nuts" to believe that commies killed over 100 million people in the 20th century.
She is literally claiming that.
Precisely as one would expect she would. She is a leftist. Those deaths are meaningless.
Here you go Inga, feast on your fruits of your teammates:
According to R. J. Rummel's book Death by Government (1994), about 110 million people, foreign and domestic, were killed by Communist democide from 1900 to 1987.[31] In 1993, Rummel wrote: "Even were we to have total access to all communist archives we still would not be able to calculate precisely how many the communists murdered. Consider that even in spite of the archival statistics and detailed reports of survivors, the best experts still disagree by over 40 percent on the total number of Jews killed by the Nazis. We cannot expect near this accuracy for the victims of communism. We can, however, get a probable order of magnitude and a relative approximation of these deaths within a most likely range".[18]
In his introduction to the Black Book of Communism (1999), Stéphane Courtois gave a "rough approximation, based on unofficial estimates" approaching 100 million killed.[o] In his foreword to the book, Martin Malia noted "a grand total of victims variously estimated by contributors to the volume at between 85 million and 100 million".[p]
According to Benjamin Valentino in 2005, the number of non-combatants killed by Communist regimes in the Soviet Union, People's Republic of China and Cambodia alone ranged from a low of 21 million to a high of 70 million.[q][r] Citing Rummel and others, Valentino stated that the "highest end of the plausible range of deaths attributed to communist regimes" was up to 110 million".[q][s]
In his book Red Holocaust (2010), Steven Rosefielde said that Communism's internal contradictions "caused to be killed" approximately 60 million people and perhaps tens of millions more.[32]
In 2011, Matthew White published his rough total of 70 million "people who died under communist regimes from execution, labor camps, famine, ethnic cleansing, and desperate flight in leaky boats", not counting those killed in wars.[t]
In 2016, the Dissident blog of the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation made an effort to compile updated ranges of estimates and concluded that the overall range "spans from 42,870,000 to 161,990,000" killed, with 100 million the most commonly cited figure.[u]
In 2017, Professor Stephen Kotkin wrote in The Wall Street Journal that

“She grew up in the former Yugoslavia, she knows what propaganda is about”
If you’re referring to me Narciso, I never stepped foot in Yugoslavia. I grew up in Milwaukee WI. Milwaukee did have a very popular socialist Mayor at one time.
Quilted northam is a typical lefty hack, he couldn't deliver on his sacrificial edict so now hes useless.
Wow, who knew?
“Zeidler was Milwaukee's third Socialist mayor (after Emil Seidel [1910-12] and Daniel Hoan [1916-40]), making Milwaukee the largest American city to elect three Socialists to its highest office.”
Wiki
I’m the product of an American city! Woo Hoo!
Now just think, all of murder and horror and terror of the communist experiment was well established by 1980's.
Irrefutable really.
But guess where good old Bernie Sanders decides to go on his honeymoon and hang out shirtless with his Bolshevik buddies?
And guess which CIA director voted for the Communist Party USA candidate?
And guess which CIA director stated point blank, after lying directly to congress and having to come back to "amend" his previous statements, that the Muslim Brotherhood was not a terrorist organization?
That would come as a surprise to the descendants of Anwar Sadat.
Quilted northam... he couldn't deliver on his sacrificial edict so now hes useless.
With less children Planned under the Solution, they told him, with a diversitist's flourish, and without Pro-Coice, to go Plan himself.
And proud to bd a product of Wisconsin Progressivism.
As the 19th century ended, Wisconsin was developing into an increasingly industrial and technological society. To a people born and raised mostly on farms, the explosive growth of cities, rising importance of large-scale industry, and the overall speed of daily life brought uncertainty and confusion.
Large cities had created jobs and opportunities but also poverty, disease, and crime. Businesses had created more efficient and productive factories but also dangerous working conditions and poor pay for workers.
To solve these problems, reformers pushed for cleaner cities, safer workplaces, labor laws, and a more democratic government. These reformers were known as “Progressives." One of the leaders of the movement was Wisconsin's own Robert La Follette. He and many other progressive people worked to change government, public health laws, education, and working conditions in Wisconsin.
Inga:
"Large cities had created jobs and opportunities but also poverty, disease, and crime. Businesses had created more efficient and productive factories but also dangerous working conditions and poor pay for workers."
LOL
Oh right, "cities" created the jobs and opportunities and businesses created bad stuff!!
Too funny.
Inga, you can have just as much socialism as your capitalism can fund.
How many "jobs and opportunities" have Venezuelan cities provided lately?
For that matter, what do you think the Yellow Vests in France have to say about the govt/cities "creating jobs and opportunities"?
Too funny.
Well this is ths progressive vision largely imported from Germany, which doesn't believe in inalienable rights, so govt is unconstrained,
Given that its govt and cities that provide jobs and opportunities and businesses that provide bad stuff, shouldn't a nation, say, the Soviet Union, which had no businesses and ONLY govt have flourished?
LOL
Inga is better off simply reading the headlines. When she delves deeper it just gets funnier.
“Large cities had created jobs and opportunities but also poverty, disease, and crime. Businesses had created more efficient and productive factories but also dangerous working conditions and poor pay for workers."
“LOL
Oh right, "cities" created the jobs and opportunities and businesses created bad stuff!!
Too funny.”
Complaints about the content? Take it up with the Wisconsin Historical Society.
Their argument is that communism could not arise from a feudal society, so only when Russia went through capitalism or their twisted understanding of it...profit
Inga: "Complaints about the content? Take it up with the Wisconsin Historical Society"
LOL
Yeah, cuz those guys aren't leftists too!
Go figure, lefties lying about the real engines of growth and improving individuals living standards.
Gee, we haven't seen that before, have we?
If only people hadn't been able to move off farms because of the Industrial Revolution then cities wouldn't have had the opportunity to produce benefits.
Do I have that right, Royal ass Inga?
#LogicIsFutile
I’d say Drago’s political philosophy sounds decidedly un American, not mine. I’m a product of my city and my state and I dare say, my country. What country does Drago’s propaganda spring out of, I wonder.
“Yeah, cuz those guys aren't leftists too!”
Yeah, Wisconsin is a hotbed of commies.
LOL
Inga: "I’d say Drago’s political philosophy sounds decidedly un American, not mine."
Yes, because who would associate capitalism with the United States, right? I mean, that's just crazy talk!
LOL
Seriously, did you really just make that argument?
Unbelievable.
Inga: "Yeah, Wisconsin is a hotbed of commies."
All progressives are big "statists".
Most progressives are socialists.
A significant proportion of progressives are simply communists by a "happier" name. Can you blame them? They would prefer avoiding that 100 million dead "thing".
“Yes, because who would associate capitalism with the United States, right? I mean, that's just crazy talk!”
Drago, if you were a mere Capitalist, you wouldn’t come across as a Propagandist trained in some Eastern country.
Drago says, “Who, little ol’ me, I’m just a Capitalist!”
LOL
So, to sum up Inga's positions tonight:
1) If you claim communism led to 100M deaths in the 20th century, you are crazy
2) Cities create jobs and opportunities, businesses just create miserty
3) Capitalism has nothing to do with America
and, just because...4) Inga cannot locate a single instance in her many years on this blog where she ever criticized islamic supremacists, MS13 murderers, illegal alien criminals, etc.
LOL
Inga: "Drago, if you were a mere Capitalist, you wouldn’t come across as a Propagandist trained in some Eastern country."
LOL
Yep, because those wily rascally "Eastern country" types are always going on and on about the wonders of capitalism and how governments should be smaller and individual rights do not spring from govt but are inalienable rights given to us by God, and individuals should have the right to bear arms, etc etc etc.
Yep, a regular "Eastern country" type alright!!
LOL Seriously, I can't stop laughing now.
“So, to sum up Inga's positions tonight:”
So Drago can’t say a straight or honest word and wants people to just swallow his misinformation and mischaracterizations. One after another, after another. Wake up Althousians. As I said this guy is a trained propagandist and might just be a bit nutty too.
And my favorite part of Inga's comment: "mere Capitalist"
"mere"
LOL
Sorry Drago, but you really do sound as if you came straight out of Propaganda school in Russia. I have no idea if you really did, but you sure do play the role well.
AA - Contortionist extraordinaire.
What a flair for making the simple incomprehensibly complex -- all to come to the wrong conclusion, as usual.
Inga: " I have no idea if you really did,..."
LOL
Well, you swallowed the hoax dossier lie whole, the golden showers lie whole, the FISA warrants were really all about Page lie whole, Trump is an agent of russia lie whole, (the list here is endless).
You are correct. You have no idea...about pretty much anything. Stick to the headlines. It's safer for you.
The name "capitalist" was an aspersions created by Marx.
It's inaccurate and is actually propaganda by a definition that people recognize.
I favor free markets and free people.
Marxists, be damned.
Birkel: "I favor free markets and free people."
What do free markets and free people have to do with America?
Cities provide jobs and opportunities. Haven't you heard?
He is a Democrat. Of course Althouse is showing him the nuance, context and forgiveness she was Moore-Ian and loudly silent about with regard to Kavanaugh.
Cruel Neutrality is for Republicans. Comfort for Democrats
“The name "capitalist" was an aspersions created by Marx.
It's inaccurate and is actually propaganda by a definition that people recognize.”
Yet Drago likes the term, lol. Well he is a propagandist.
And if you don't like it Birkel, you can take it up with Wisconsin Historical Society!!
Or the Ministry of Truth while you are at it.
Yes, I heard.
But I chalk that up to Royal ass Inga's profound stupidity.
To give Royal ass Inga credit for believing a thing gives her too much credit.
Medulla Oblangata or bust, baby.
MiniTru?
Can I have a two minute conversation?
Inga: "Yet Drago likes the term, lol. Well he is a propagandist"
It's true. Only "Eastern country" types use the word Capitalism. No one else does. No one.\
For example, here are the "Eastern country" types at the Wall Street Journal: https://www.wsj.com/articles/capitalism-in-america-review-the-commercial-republic-1539909863
You know, its only now, at this late date, that Inga's revolutionary insight makes it all clear: ANYONE claiming to be a capitalist is, by definition now, an "Eastern country" type.
Yes, its all so much clearer now....LOL
And the propaganda beat goes on... and on.... and on... yawn, time for bed.
Perhaps Inga, being from Milwaukee, can tell us all about how the City of Milwaukee made itself into a commercial hub for beer brewing despite all those terrible brewery companies getting in the way and messing it all up.
LOL
You know, I'm going to go out on a limb here and suggest that maybe, just maybe, free markets played some small role in this whole Milwaukee beer thing.
Let's take a look at Milwaukee Magazine, shall we?
"Beer has always been a part of Milwaukee. Even before Milwaukee was officially a city, there was one tavern for every 40 people. According to 2013 data, how many bars per capita does Milwaukee currently have?"
"Even before Milwaukee was officially a city"!!!! What?! "Un-possible" shrieks Inga, backed up by the leftists at the Wisconsin Historical Society!!
https://www.milwaukeemag.com/quiz-how-well-do-you-know-milwaukees-beer-history/
LOLOLOLOL
I know that soglin is a practical stalinist, also they envisioned social democracy with the 1940 constitution, it was unworkable same with Venezuela, where luxuries like food and toilet paper are a memory.
To their credit, the Democrats here in Virginia get it, unlike the apologists here. Uniformly after the press conference, they have demanded that, in the words of Michael Jackson, that he beat it.
The admission about the photo before the denial, the admission of using blackface to look like Michael Jackson, the confession that it was only when his "black friend" and campaign worker Seth explained it to him that he realized that it was offensive, the deflection and smear that back then -- all the way back in 1984 -- everyone was doing it and no one thought it wrong. All of these add up to "get the hell out of here."
All that, and the fact that if Coonman Northam had been honest and open about his past before the election, no one would have voted for him. His election was under fraudulent pretenses. Of course he has to go.
Same in the UK with trotskyites Livingstone and Corbyn, the one a friend of Hamas and quradawi the fellow who fatwad sadat and the latter a friend of Hamas the russians and the Atb (Czech secret police)
Stb, the folks who Carlos the jackal was on good terms with,

The problem is how do you fix such an utterly shattered society
Mark said: To their credit, the Democrats here in Virginia get it, unlike the apologists here. Uniformly after the press conference, they have demanded that, in the words of Michael Jackson, that he beat it.
Democrats pounce!
Almost every night I put on black face and watch old Amos & Andy clips on Youtube.
But it is not racist! It's an homage!
I hate racists who where black face in a non-ironic way.
They should be whipped through the streets! They are evil!
Inga wrote: The Phillipines can’t be any safer than the US nowadays.
Like every Democrat Inga never lets ignorance stand in the way of her opinions. She can neither find those islands or a map or spell their collective name.
Northam should get a camera crew, deliver a baby, and then slice it to pieces on the birthing table. That's the only thing that can save him in the eyes of his fellow Dems.
I want him to stay. Pretty much any "racism" that the Dems dig up during his term of office won't be as egregious. As someone late in the postings pointed out - he won his election at least partially based on a racism claim against his opponent far weaker than dressing up in blackface and hanging out with someone in a Klan outfit. This would seemingly inoculate Republicans to some tent across the country against the sort of bogus racism claims that the Dems are so fond of.
The other aspect is that the VA term limitation law would seemingly allow Coonman's LT Gov to succeed him and then run on his own in 2022. A good looking black versus a known racist white is far more dangerous to the Republicans. And the LT Gov appears to be maybe even more gung-ho as a baby killer abortionist, having apparently worked for Planned Parenthood.
Hey Birkel, on your new and striking idea, it is a powerful idea, but you have discovered it independently through different application.
Old-time Communist Doctrine, fostered when it actually faced the material physical opposition and actual oppression by European powers, and interrogated to the very limit of strenuosity, is to never confess, never give up, never inform, never reveal, and make every effort to minimize the damage and communicate/discuss what has, can and cannot be revealed or sacrificed. Much like any successful criminal organization. Old time Bolsheviks were hard guys.
ultimately Northam goes because there can be a credible threat to his life made not by democrats but purportedly by the KKK. In fact, the KKK, which appears to be regarded as a terrorist organization, undoubtedly includes people known to the governor. Governor should name names, I think he knows dozens or hundreds of Klan members. Probably big allies and contributors. Let him talk, then he can stay in office.
Bruce, Northam has no reason to leave office, other than the threat of assassination which you may not take seriously, unless and until some D entity offers him a carrot. They haven't got much stick to apply. So what broadcasting or consulting or K Street gig shall be found for him?
