Does anybody get anything anymore? And when are you sure the other person is unironic?

I was just putting my bookmarks in order and clicked on the abbreviation "JP" to see what it was. I found myself at the r/JordanPeterson subreddit and this caught my eye:

This was just posted unironically in r/funny by the artist from r/forwardsfromgrandma

I enjoyed discovering the subreddit, r/forwardsfromgrandma, which describes itself like this:
Who says email is dead? They obviously haven't seen your grandma at work. Forwards, much like your meemaw, never really seem to die. Maybe it IS all those cigarettes keeping the sub alive! Don't forget to write, Sweaty! FFG is back!
Browse over there for a bit and make sure you get it. Do you have a "grandma" in your life? In your Facebook feed?

Are you the grandma? Would you know if you were?

I cant get past the first panel. Husband, wife, BOTH sitting on the couch, watching TV, expressing opposing opinions, still hugging, no scowl or look of derision. It's like Ozzie and Harriet.

If you want the most qualified candidate you wind up with the white male.

Yeah, I forward stuff to my kids. Just sent a story to my youngest about dating classes in Japan. Dad!

They're all wrong. Vote for the least untrustworthy that wants what you want for the government & people. Dad's racist, Mom's sexist, kid's elitist.

That's why it is racist. White people aren't supposed to free associate. That's why they're all these articles on why it's terrible that white people are attracted to other white people. That's why if you Google pregnant white woman and look at images it's always a white woman and a black man.

That woman has beautiful breasts.

It's worrying that the parents look like siblings.

The ignorant provincialism is ironic:

"It’s the typical sour grapes and projection thing. Their small rural towns don’t have Fox News host looking women living there. They have People of Walmart looking women living there"

Clearly never been to a small rural town.

Driving to a dinner engagement the other night my wife and I were listening to some music I have downloaded on my idevice. In succession we heard these songs:

"Down by the River" by Neil Young
"Every Picture Tells a Story" by Rod Stewart
"Hey Joe" by Jimi Hendrix

In the first, Neil tells us how he shot his baby, shot her dead, down by the river. Then a young Rod Stewart is cavorting around the world with a slit-eyed lady. Jimi is, of course, headed way down south to Mexico because he shot his old lady, dead.

We, my wife and I, agreed we shouldn't be listening to those songs. I need to purge them from my library.

@Whitney, yep you are correct. Apparently only negroes impregnate white women in contemporary America.

I'm not on FB and the only things I send my kids - they have reached the age where texting is the most common form of communicating - are articles about the lack of proper security in wifi connected home devices. I don't send jokes or "insights". I do have a friend, he's 64 and retired to Florida, that's sends right-wing memes and jokes. Most are like Alec Baldwin's Trump thingy on SNL last night, tiresome.

It's a little depressing that the grandmas among my friends I know from junior high.

Sorry, I just woke up.

Almost 30 years ago when I was struggling to get a 2400 baud modem to dialup a random computer at UNC/CH so I could download a full newsfeed via UUCIO I did not understand that I was getting a daily 5M of grandma crap. Back when that was a LOT of text.

Some things haven't changed, though they've become more visual.

Who needs comics like this, when reall life is so surreal...

Some examples:

The claim of a maga hat wearing attack in super deep blue Chicago being taken so seriously... there is a mashup video of all the pundits clucking how horrible the attack is around.

I would worry more the safety of anyone wearing a maga hat in Chicago.

The mashup of the sotu with rem’s everyone hurts trump tweeted:

Or Biden’s comment in Europe America is an embarrassment...

It seems like the people in that subreddit, have two predominant inferiority complexes; an intellectual one, and a moral one. It is just a circle-jerk, so they can tell themselves, "They just don't get it, but I do. I took sociology classes, I aced my gender studies coursework, I promote equity every day in my life. I don't need Grandma weighing in with her antiquated ideas." You can see it best displayed when a commenter tries to translate or explain something from grandma.

That being said this subreddit should demonstrate the futility of trying to convert or persuade someone to your political/moral sensibilities with memes or comments. Those are best used for rallying the base and preaching to the choir. If you don't want to be grandma, only share your political memes and cartoons with people you are relatively certain would appreciate them.

The last panel is missing from the posted comic; it is here, and [spoiler] the kid's teddy bear is strangling him and saying "You said you'd get them to vote for me, kid!" and the kid says "For pure electability reasons, maybe it's time to consider a sex-change operation!"

The goofy bitch at the end got a chance to use her sad voice that she has been practicing - "This is America in 2019". Aww. Poor America!

Cory Booker had the shark-jumpingest response, though, although he wasn't in the video[?]:

"The vicious attack on actor Jussie Smollett was an attempted modern-day lynching. I'm glad he's safe.

To those in Congress who don't feel the urgency to pass our Anti-Lynching bill designating lynching as a federal hate crime– I urge you to pay attention."

Echoing Mike Sylwester, it may be racist to depict a white woman with such perky breasts after childbirth, even more luscious than the Family Circle mom's.

Reddit is fun. I spend most my time there now. So many subs! I've only begun to explore them all.

But yeah it mostly leans left. Redditors are definitely younger, but there are some bright spots. For a pure MAGA fix there is always r/the_Donald.

Josh Rivera writing in the once interesting GQ magazine - the magazine for rich white dudes who want to hate themselves, apparently:

"Whiteness in 21st century America has an endgame, and it is this: to divest itself from the shame of its power, while working to revive the fear it needs in which to thrive. And there is work being done, work done by panels of respectable-seeming men and women on cable news networks dismissing the red MAGA hat as innocuous, work done by politicians who continue to openly lie about the danger immigrants pose to Americans while choosing to ignore that almost all violent extremist crime is committed by right-wing terrorists, by the refusal to acknowledge that bigotry is alive and well, perpetrated by racists and homophobes targeting people like Smollett, criminals who have no qualms in sharing what motivates them. Hate needs to sign its work. That's how hate persists."

For the rabidly racist people that vote for the Democratic Party, this is red bait -- they feel hatred seeing this cartoon.

That's the real world we are living in. That's how the human mind actually works. We are genetically tribal. We have this tendency built-in. Maybe you can counter it to some extent with education. But look whose running the schools: the rabid racists!

Two cultures, not intersecting. Indeed, communication between them is becoming extremely difficult. There is very little left in terms of a shared worldview, or common interests, even physical ones, that is, food, water, heat, shelter, energy. That one is probably down to one side, at least, being so isolated and cushioned from physical matters, such is their state of comfort.

The only remaining overlap is perhaps finance.

It could be worse, Handmaiden of the State. A blog full of State cultists, like Inga. They could spend all the blogspace denying Democide and other things State cultists do.
